Disease prognosis could be improved for high-risk individuals by implementing earlier screenings. Because many patients are asymptomatic during the early stages of gastric cancer, the diagnosis is often delayed and patients present with unresectable locally advanced or metastatic disease. Cytotoxic treatment has been shown to prolong survival in general, but not all patients are responders. The application of targeted therapies and multimodal treatment has improved prognosis for those with advanced disease. However, these new therapeutic strategies do not uniformly benefit all patients.Predicting whether patients will respond to specific therapies would be of particular value and would allow for stratifying patients for personalized treatment strategies.Metabolic imaging by positron emission tomography was the first technique with the potential to predict the response of esophagogastric cancer to neoadjuvant therapy.Exploring and validating tissue-based biomarkers are ongoing processes. In this review,we discuss the status of several targeted therapies for gastric cancer,as well as proteomic and metabolic methods for investigating biomarkers for therapy response prediction in gastric cancer.展开更多

In this review, we summarize a series of researches done in our group, including (i) the development of an all-in-one solution of characterizing coated bubble parameters based on the light scattering technique and flow cytometry; (ii) a novel bubble dynamic model that takes into consideration both nonlinear shell elasticity and viscosity to eliminate the dependences of bubble shell parameters on bubble size; (iii) the evaluation of UCA inertial cavitation threshold and its relationship with shell parameters; and (iv) the investigations of transfection efficiency and the reduction of cytotoxicity in gene delivery facilitated by UCAs excited by ultrasound exposures.展开更多

With the purpose to detectthe possible ABA related signal transduction pathways, we tried to isolate ABA-regulated genes throughcDNA macroarray technology using ABA-treated rice seedling as materials (under treatment for 2, 4, 8 and12 h). Of 6144 cDNA clones tested, 37 differential clones showing induction or suppression for at least onetime, were isolated. Of them 30 and 7 were up- or down-regulated respectively. Sequence analyses revealedthat the putative encoded proteins were involved in different possible processes, including transcription, metabolism and resistance, photosynthesis, signal transduction, and seed maturation. 6 cDNA clones werefound to encode proteins with unknown functions. Regulation by ABA of 7 selected clones relating to signaltransduction or metabolism was confirmed by reverse transcription PCR. In addition, some clones werefurther shown to be regulated by other plant growth regulators including auxin and brassinosteroid, which, however, indicated the complicated interactions of plant hormones. Possible signal transduction pathwaysinvolved in ABA were discussed.展开更多

The importance of the microcirculation is often ignored in spinal cord injury and repair research. Therefore, in this study, we established a rat model of intervertebral disc extrusion by inserting a silica gel pad into the left ventral sur-face of T13. Electroacupuncture was used to stimulate the bilateralZusanlipoint (ST36) and Neiting point (ST44) for 14 days. Compared with control animals, blood lfow in the ifrst lumbar vertebra (L1) was noticeably increased in rats given electroacupuncture. Microvessel density in the T13 segment of the spinal cord was increased significantly as well. The number of normal neurons was higher in the ventral horn of the spinal cord. In addition, vacuolation in the white matter was lessened. No obvious glial cell proliferation was visible. Furthermore, hindlimb motor function was improved signiifcantly. Collectively, our results suggest that electroacupuncture can improve neuronal morphology and microcirculation, and promote the recovery of neurological functions in a rat model of intervertebral disc extrusion.
