In order to enhance the sintering resistance of lanthanum aluminate based high emissivity coatings,Ca^(2+)-Fe^(3+)doped LaAlO_(3)/ZrO_(2)specimens were prepared by solid state sintering using La_(2)O_(3),Al_(2)O_(3),CaCO_(3) and Fe_(2)O_(3) as raw materials,extra-adding fused Y_(2)O_(3)-stabilized ZrO_(2)(0,5%,10%,and 15%,by mass),ball milling,pre-calcining,pressing into shapes and sintering at 1600℃for 2 h.The effect of the ZrO_(2)addition on the properties of lanthanum aluminate based high emissivity coatings was explored.It is concluded that ZrO_(2)does not react with LaAlO_(3),which can inhibit the sintering of the specimens.With the increase of the ZrO_(2),addition,the linear shrinkage rate and the thermal conductivity decrease significantly,while the emissivity decreases,but the emissivity of all the specimens is all higher than 0.9.The optimal addition of ZrO_(2),is 10%. 展开更多

Lanthanum oxalate hydrate La2(C2O4)3·10H2O,the precursor of La2O3 ultrafine powders,was prepared by impinging stream reactor method with PEG 20000 as surfactant.Thermal decomposition of La2(C2O4)3·10H2O from room temperature to 900 °C was investigated and intermediates and final solid products were characterized by FTIR and DSC-TG.Results show that the thermal decomposition process consists of five consecutive stage reactions.Flynn-Wall-Ozawa(FWO) and Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose(KAS) methods were implemented for the calculation of energy of activation(E),and the results show that E depends on α,demonstrating that the decomposition reaction process of the lanthanum oxalate is of a complex kinetic mechanism.The most probable mechanistic function,G(α)=[1-(1+α)1/3]2,and the kinetic parameters were obtained by multivariate non-linear regression analysis method.The average E-value that is compatible with the kinetic model is close to value which was obtained by FWO and KAS methods.The fitting curve matches the original TG curve very well. 展开更多

Oleic acid (denoted as OA) surface-caped lanthanum borate nanorods, abbreviated as OA/LaBO3·H2O, were prepared via hydrothermal method. The microstructures of the as-prepared OA/LaBO3·H2O nanorods were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques. The friction and wear properties of OA/LaBO3·H2O nanorods in rapeseed oil were evaluated with a four-ball tribo-tester. The results show that the as-prepared OA/LaBO3·H2O nanorods are hydrophobic and display nanorods morphology with uniform diameter of about 50 nm and length of up to 500 nm. In the meantime, OA/LaBO3·H2O nanorods can obviously improve the anti-wear and friction-reducing capacities of rapeseed oil, and the optimal anti-wear and friction-reducing properties of rapeseed oil were obtained at an OA/LaBO3·H2O content of 1% (mass fraction). 展开更多

The processes reported for the preparation of lanthanum hexaboride (LaB6) from lanthanum oxide involve the use of carbon either elemental or in the form of boron carbide or elemental boron itself as reducing agents, fused salts at high temperatures or reactions which require the product boride to be leached out. Each of these techniques either increases the process costs and/or increases chances of contamination in fi-nal product. Pure LaB6 can best be prepared by a reaction which produces a gaseous byproduct. In the present study, such a reaction was successfully used to yield pure lanthanum hexaboride. The process involved mixing of anhydrous lanthanum chloride with aluminium and boron and heating the charges under dynamic argon flow. Lanthanum chloride is known to be highly hygroscopic; hence the process using improperly dehydrated LaCl3 led to the formation of lanthanum oxychloride which does not convert to LaB6 under conditions wherein LaCl3 converts. Not only the formation of AlCl3 but also its continuous removal from the reaction zone is necessary for the success of the process. 展开更多

The effect of lanthanum on the growth and extracellular enzyme activity of Erwinia chrysanthemi(Ech) was studied. Lanthanum inhibited the growth of Ech in solid culture at the concentration of 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 and 350 mgL-1, and the inhibition increased with the increase of the RE concentration. The formation of colony delayed and the diameter of colony decreased. Lanthanum stimulated the growth of Ech within 24h when the lanthanum concentration was less than 200 mgL-1 in liquid medium, but significantly inhibited the growth of Ech with the increase of lanthanum concentration and culture time. When the concentration was higher than 350 mgL-1, the growth of Ech was inhibited completely both in solid and liquid culture. The extracellular enzyme acitivity of Ech was affected by lanthanum at 200 mgL-1. The activity of cellulose was promoted more than that of protease but the activity of pectinase was decreased. Dinitrogen fixation is one of the key reactions in chemistry, which is closely associated with food, environment, and energy. It has been recently recognized that the hydride materials containing negatively charged hydrogen(H~-) show promises for Nfixation and hydrogenation to ammonia. Herein, we report that rare earth metal hydrides such as lanthanum hydride can also fix Neither by heating to 200 °C or ball milling under ambient Npressure and temperature. The Nfixation by lanthanum hydride may proceed via an intermediate lanthanum hydride-nitride(La-H-N) structure to form the final lanthanum nitride product. The hydride ion functions as an electron donor, which provides electrons for Nactivation possibly mediated by the lanthanum atoms. It is observed that N–H bond is not formed during the Nfixation process, which is distinctly different from the alkali or alkaline earth metal hydrides. The hydrolysis of La-H-N to ammonia is feasible using water as the hydrogen source. These results provide new insights into the nitrogen fixation by hydride materials and more efforts are needed for the development of rare earth metal-based catalysts and/or nitrogen carriers for ammonia synthesis processes. 展开更多

Roughly 80% of this industrial argent is imported every year. In order to improve the situation, we took advantage of rare earth (RE) mineral resource and successfully developed the non-argent Lanthanum-tellurium-copper alloy as a substitute for industry argent-copper. In our research, we were able to successfully apply rare earth lanthanum to copper alloy. The defects as porosity, inclusion, etc. originating from nonvacuum melting processing were controlled. Fine grain was obtained. Meanwhile, the comprehensive properties of the copper alloy, such as strength, conductivity and thermal conductivity were improved. The research results in increasing conductivity and thermal conductivity by 5% and 15%, respectively, while the tensile strength is increased by 6% higher than Ag-Cu alloy. The anti-electric corrosion property is good, and there is no argent-cadmium steam population originating from the electric arc effect. The addition of lanthanum further reduces the content of oxygen and hydrogen. The optimum quantity of the addition of RE lanthanum in the copper alloy is 0.010% - 0.020% . 展开更多

A series of lanthanum doped meosoporous MCM-41 (LaxM41, x is Si/La molar ratio) was prepared by sol-gel method. The surface structure of the materials was investigated with X-ray diffraction and N2 adsorption/desorption technique. The content of La in the materials was determined by ICE It was found that the La content of La25M41, La50M41 and La100M41 was 7.53%, 3.89% and 2.32%, respectively. The phosphate adsorption capacities increased with increasing amount of La incorporation. With 0.40 g La25M41 99.7% phosphate could be removed. The effects of Si/La molar ratio, LaxM41 dose, pH, initial concentration of phosphate solution, co-ions on phosphate adsorption were also evaluated. The phosphate adsorption kinetics of LaxM41 could be well-described by the pseudo second-order model, and Langmuir isotherm fit equilibrium data much better than the Freundlich isotherm. 展开更多

The toxic effects of rare earth elements such as lanthanum, cerium and heavy metal elements such as chromium, zinc on Potamogeton malaianus Miq. were studied. The results show that the contents of chlorophyll and soluble protein increase to a certain degree and then decrease under La3+ Ce3+ Zn2+ stress, while there is a constantly dropping tendency under Cr6+ stress. The four ions have different effects on protective enzyme systems of Potamogeton malaianus. They can induce rises of the activities of catalase (CAT) and peroxides (POD) at lower concentration, however, with the increase of ions concentration, the activities decline. The change of SOD activity is exactly opposite to that of CAT and POD activity. It falls at first and rises later. An increasing tendency of MDA content appears with the increasing concentration. The toxicities of La3+, Zn2+, Ce3+ and Cr6+ become more serious in the order. The lethal concentration of Cr6+ to Potamogeton malaianus ranges from 0.5 to I mg(-1) that of Ce3+ and Zn2+ ranges from 3 to 5 mg(-1) and that of La3+ ranges from 7 to 10 mg(.)L(-1). The toxic mechanism of La3 + and Ce3+ is similar to that of Cr6+ and Zn2+. 展开更多

The behaviors of La and Ce on gram boundaries in carbon manganese clean steel were investigated by high-reso- lution transmission elecetron microscope (HRTEM), scanning elecetron microscopy(SEM ), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) and X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis. The existing forms of rare earths (RE) in clean steel were as follows: dissolved in sohd solution, forming inclusion or second phase containing RE (RE-Fe-P, La-P, Fe-La eutectic and Fe-Ce phase). The dissolved La or Ce segregated at grain boundaries. The segregation of both S and P at gram boundaries was reduced with suitable RE content. The impact toughness of the steel was improved obviously. La and Ce had effecets on purifying molten steel and modifying inclusions in clean steel, whereas with excessive La or Ce, La-Fe-P, La-P and Fe-La eutecetic phase or Ce-Fe-P and Fe-Ce intermetallic compound would form along grain boundaries, causing the impact energy to decrease significantly. 展开更多

Oxide powders of various compositions La2Zr2O7 were synthesized by coprecipitation-calcination method. High-temperature dilatometer, DSC, and laser thermal diffusivity methods were used to analyze thermal expansion coefficient (TEC), specific heat, and thermal diffusivity. The results showed that CeO2 doped pyrochlores La2(Zr1.8Ce0.2)2O7 and La1.7(DyNd)0.15(Zr0.8Ce0.2)2O7 had higher TEC than La2Zr2O7 and La1.7Dy0.3Zr2O7. La2(Zr1.8Ce0.2)2O7, La1.7Dy0.3Zr2O7, and La1.7(DyNd)0.15(Zr0.8Ce0.2)2O7 had lower thermal conductivity than undoped La2Zr2O7. The Dy2O3, Nd2O3, and CeO2 codoped composition showed the lowest thermal conductivity and the highest TEC. Thermo-physical results also indicated that TEC of rare earth oxide doped La2Zr2O7 ceramic was slightly higher than that of conventional ZrO2-8Wt.% Y2O3 (8YSZ), and its thermal conductivity was lower than that of 8YSZ. 展开更多

In order to investigate the effects of lanthanum(Ⅲ) on cell ultrastructure of soybean leaves under elevated ultraviolet-B irradiation (UV-B, 280-320 nm), the chloroplast ultrastructure of soybean seedlings was studied by hydroponics under laboratory conditions. The resuits showed that the thylakoid in chloroplast was orderly and clearly as soybean leaves were pretreated by La(Ⅲ). The thylakoid was indis- tinctly disordered, expanded and even indiscoverable in the chloroplast under UV-B stress. The impact on the thylakoid by the high intensity UV-B irradiation (T2) was bigger than that by the low intensity UV-B irradiation (T1). However, the destruction of the chloroplast structure caused by UV-B stress was alleviated by La(Ⅲ), and the arrangement of the thylakoid in the chloroplast became orderly and clearly. The effect of the alleviation by La(Ⅲ) under the low intensity UV-B irradiation (T1) was better than that under the high intensity UV-B irradiation (T2). 展开更多

The hydroponic culture experiments of soybean bean seedlings were conducted to investigate the effect of lanthanum (La) on nitrogen metabolism under two different levels of elevated UV-B radiation (UV-B, 280-320 nm). The whole process of nitrogen metabolism involves uptake and transport of nitrate, nitrate assimilation, ammonium assimilation, amino acid biosynthesis, and protein synthesis. Compared with the control, UV-B radiation with the intensity of low level 0.15 W/m^2 and high level 0.45 W/m^2 significantly affected the whole nitrogen metabolism in soybean seedlings (p 〈 0.05). It restricted uptake and transport of NO3^-, inhibited activity of some key nitrogen-metabolism-related enzymes, such as: nitrate reductase (NR) to the nitrate reduction, glutamine systhetase (GS) and glutamine synthase (GOGAT) to the ammonia assimilation, while it increased the content of free amino acids and decreased that of soluble protein as well. The damage effect of high level of UV-B radiation on nitrogen metabolism was greater than that of low level. And UV-B radiation promoted the activity of the anti-adversity enzyme glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), which reduced the toxicity of excess ammonia in plant. After pretreatment with the optimum concentration of La (20 mg/L), La could increase the activity of NR, GS, GOGAT, and GDH, and ammonia assimilation, but decrease nitrate and ammonia accumulation. In conclusion, La could relieve the damage effect of UV-B radiation on plant by regulating nitrogen metabolism process, and its alleviating effect under low level was better than that under the high one. 展开更多

The effect of lanthanum content on the photocatalytic properties was studied, and the result revealed that 0.15 mol% La/TiO2/Fe3O4 exhibited the highest photoactiv-ity. The photocatalytic properties of the prepared photocatalyst under UV and visible light were investigated in aqueous solution using methyl orange (MO) as a target pollutant. The results showed that the prepared photocatalyst was activated by visible light and used as an ef-fective catalyst in photooxidation reactions. In addition, the possibility of cyclic usage of the prepared photocatalyst was also confirmed. Moreover, La/TiO2 was tightly bound to Fe3O4 and could be easily recovered from the medium by a simple magnetic process. 展开更多

The effect of La on flavonoids, chlorophyll contents, and phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) activity in soybean seedlings under supplementary ultraviolet-B radiation (UV-B, 280 - 320 nm) was studied. The results show that PAL activity, contents of flavonoids and chlorophyll in the plants pretreated with La (20 mg·L^- 1 ) are higher than those in CK. UV-B radiation could result in an increase in flavonoid content and PAL activity, associated with a decrease in chlorophyll content. However, the increase in the range of PAL activity and flavonoid content in UV-B treatment are lesser than those in the La treatment. The changes of flavonoid contents and PAL activity in La + UV-B treatment are similar to those in UV-B treatment, and the increase in their range is higher than those in UV-B treatment. This shows that La can enhance the resistance of soybean seedling to UV-B radiation and alleviate the damage of UV-B radiation by increasing flavonoid content, chlorophyll content, and PAL activity. 展开更多

The effects of lanthanum on some redox system(PMRS) properties of the plasma membrane(PM) vesicles from Casuarina equisetifolia seedlings under artificial acid rain(pH 4.5)stress were studied. The results show that there are NADH oxidase and EDTA Fe 3+ reductase, and nitrate reductase in the seedling PM, and they have different responses to soaking seeds for 8 h in a series of LaCl 3 solution. The NADH oxidase activities and the Nitrate reductase activities can be stimulated when La 3+ concentrations is in the range of 50~200 mg·L -1 , but their activities are inhibited or fluctuate by the higher La 3+ concentrations. The EDTA Fe 3+ reductase activities can be stimulated by La 3+ concentrations in the range of 50~400 mg·L -1 . The research also revealed that La 3+ reduces the relative permeability of membranes and have the function in protecting membranes under acid rain stress by the way of inhibiting the leakage of electrolyte. 展开更多

The sorption properties of macroporous weak acid resin (D113) for La^3+ ion were studied by chemical analysis and IR spectra. Experimental results indicate that the D113 resin has a good adsorption ability for La^3+ at pH = 6.0 in the HAc-NaAc medium. The statically saturated adsorption capacity is 273.3 mg/g. Separation coefficients of βLa^3+/Ce^3+, βLa^3+/Gd^3+, βLa^3+/Er^3+, and βLa^3+/Y^3+ are 2.29, 3.64, 4.27, and 0.627, respectively. The apparent activation energy of adsorption, Ea is 18.4 kJ/mol, the thermodynamics parameters AH, AS, and AG of sorption are 4.53 kJ/mol, 61.8 J/(mol·K), -13.9 kJ/mol, respectively. The adsorption behavior of D113 for La^3+ obeys the Freundlich isotherm. La^3+adsorbed on resin can be eluted by 2.0 mol/L HCl quantitatively. 展开更多

The inhibition of lanthanum (La) to mycelial growth and three disease-related enzymes of Rhizoctonia solani were studied. The results showed that lanthanum inhibits the growth of Rhizoctonia solani strongly. EC_(50) and EC_(95) of La were 171.9 and 667.7 mg·L^(-1) measured in solid culture media respectively, while 111.4 and 500.7 mg·L^(-1) measured in liquid culture media respectively. Lanthanum also has activating effects on disease-related enzymes of the fungus such as pectinase, protease and cellulase. However, the quantity or the activity of the total enzymes decreases significantly because of the strong blockage of mycelial growth when the La_2O_3 concentration is over 50 mg·L^(-1), and the virulence of pathogen decreases as well. 展开更多
