The soil as a natural resource is polluted by cadmium as a heavy metals from the different sources such as phosphorus fertilizers. The aim of this study was to investigate the biochar effect on absorption factor (AF) and translocation factor (TF) as the phytoremediation factors at different cadmium concentrations by lavender plant. The experiment was conducted in 3 × 4 factorial design including biochar treatment at the volumetric percentage ratio of 0%, 20% and 40% v/v and cadmium treatment at 0, 50, 100 and 150 mg Cd⋅kg−1 soil under greenhouse condition. The data analysis indicated that the biochar and cadmium treatments significantly (p ≤0.05) affected the plant dry biomass. The biochar addition caused to decrease the cadmium content of the root tissue. Biochar decreased cadmium uptake by lavender plant and also cadmium was accumulated by the root tissue and was prevented to translocate cadmium into the shoot tissue. Increasing cadmium concentration in soil caused an increase in cadmium adsorption factor however there was a significant decrease for translocation factor. It can be concluded to consider the possibility of planting the lavender with biochar application to amend the cadmium contaminated soils.展开更多

Its conventional drug therapies often have low patient compliance due to drug-related side effects. In Persian medicine, lavender-dodder syrup is one formula often recommended for such disorders. Objective: This study compares the effects of lavender-dodder syrup to the standard drug, citalopram, for treating MDD with anxious distress.Design, setting, participants and intervention: This six-week, double-blind, randomized, clinical trial was carried out in a psychiatric outpatient clinic. During the six-week intervention period, patients in citalopram group received citalopram tablets 20 mg/d plus 5 mL placebo syrup every 12 h;patients in group B received placebo tablets once daily plus 5 mL of lavender-dodder herbal syrup every 12 h.Main outcome measures: Primary outcome measures, depression and anxiety, were evaluated using the Hamilton Depression/Anxiety Rating Scales, and were scored at the beginning of the study and at weeks three and six. Secondary outcome measures including response to treatment and remission rates were also compared between the two groups. Results: Fifty-six participants with MDD and anxious distress were randomly assigned to two groups.Mean depression scores significantly decreased in citalopram and herbal groups at weeks three and six(time effect: P < 0.001), although the observed changes were not significantly different between the groups(intervention effect: P = 0.61). Mean anxiety scores were not significantly different between the two groups at week three(P = 0.75). However, at the end of week six, the observed decrease was significantly higher in the herbal syrup group than the citalopram group(intervention effect: P = 0.007).Conclusion: The herbal syrup is an effective and tolerable supplement for treating MDD with anxious distress.Trial registration number: IRCT2016102430459 N1 on Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials.展开更多

The ICUs of two educational hospitals in Kerman in Southeastern Iran were the study setting. One hundred and fifty conscious intensive care patients were randomly divided into three groups using a stratified block randomization method. Two groups received aromatherapy with essential oils: one with lavender and the other with C. aurantium;these patients received a 30-minute therapy session using their assigned essential oil on the second day of their intensive care stay. The placebo group used 5 drops of normal saline instead of essential oil during their session.Main outcome measures: Patient’s pain was assessed using a visual analog scale before the aromatherapy intervention, as well as immediately after and one and three hours after intervention. Results: The mean pain score of the lavender group was 40.01 before the aromatherapy intervention and fell to 39.40, 30.60 and 23.68 immediately after the intervention, and at hour one and three postintervention, respectively. The mean pain score of the C. aurantium group was 45.48 before the intervention and was reduced to 32.34 at three hours after the intervention. The mean pain of the placebo group decreased from 42.80 before the intervention to 35.20 at three hours after the intervention. Pain scores of all groups decreased during the study(P < 0.001). The mean pain of the lavender group was significantly lower than that of the placebo group at three hours after the intervention. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that aromatherapy with lavender essential oil reduced pain in conscious ICU patients. Our data could not justify the use of C. aurantium for reducing pain in this population.展开更多

The current study investigated the effects of aroma on induced anxiety in non-clinical adults, comparing pure lavender, a commercially available blend and a no aroma control. An experimental, quantitative, mixed factorial design with an opportunity sample of 60 participants was employed. Participants were randomly allocated to three equal groups, one tested in a room infused with lavender aroma, the second with the doTerra Peace® blend, and the third free from any aroma. Participants’ state anxiety scores were measured before and after a novel video-based anxiety induction procedure. Data analysis revealed that the anxiety induction was successful and that both aromas delivered small to medium-sized buffering effects compared to no aroma. The findings add to a small body of research in an area where the practice is global yet has limited scientific evaluation. Future studies utilising brain imaging and blood serum analysis to investigate the anxiolytic mechanism of aromas would be beneficial to further our understanding.展开更多

文摘An effective in vitro propagation protocol was designed for Lavandula angustifolia Miller,a medicinal aromatic plant that is a prominent source of volatile organic compounds(VOCs).Murashige and Skoog media were supplemented with various concentrations of Plant Growth Regulators(PGRs),and the growth parameters of the nodal segments were examined.Nodal explants formed callus when they were supplemented with 2 mg/L of 6-Benzylaminopurine(BAP).The superior hormonal concentration of Murashige and Skoog(MS)media for the proliferation of shoots from callus cultures(39.33%)was 5 mg/L of 2-Isopentenyl adenine(2iP),and the favorable media for the growth of L.angustifolia callus cultures was 1 and 2 mg/L of BAP,with a 98%for-mation rate in each case. The callus cultures and in vitro propagated L.angustifolia seedlings obtained from var-ious PGR concentrations of MS media were exposed to qualitative and quantitative analysis in terms of phenolic profiles,flavonoids,High-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC)analysis of phenolic acids, and headspace-SPME analysis for volatiles.Such analysis revealed that micropropagated seedlings grown in media containing 1 mg/L of 6-Furfurylaminopurine(KIN)accumulated the highest yield(11.95±0.01 mg GAE/g)of phenolic acids. In contrast, the lowest concentration(2.17±0.04 mg GAE/g)was detected in 0.5 mg/L of BAP+0.5 mg/L of Naphthaleneacetic acid(NAA)media. The plantlets grown in 0.5 mg/L of BAP+0.5 mg/L of NAA media showed the highestflavonoid yield(31.67±0.06μg/g QE/g).In contrast, callus samples exhibited the lowest yield(11.59±0.02μg/g QE/g)offlavonoids in MS media supplemented with a concentration of 0.5 mg/L of BAP.HPLC analysis revealed the variability of phenolic acid contents within the callus cultures as well as plantlets, with gallic acid,4-OH benzoic acid, chlorogenic acid, vanillic acid, caffeic acid, cinnamic acid, and rosmarinic acid being the prominent constituents. The presence of twenty-two chemicals was revealed by headspace-SPME analysis.Eucalyptol,nonanal,borneol,carvone,andβ-caryophyllene were the most abundant. This study demonstrated that micropropagation of L.angustifolia may be an effective method to produce large numbers of genetically identical plantlets for the production of high-value bio compounds.

文摘Background: Major depressive disorder(MDD) accompanied by anxious distress is a chronic and disabling disorder. However, at the end of week six, the observed decrease was significantly higher in the herbal syrup group than the citalopram group(intervention effect: P = 0.007).Conclusion: The herbal syrup is an effective and tolerable supplement for treating MDD with anxious distress.Trial registration number: IRCT2016102430459 N1 on Iranian Registry of Clinical Trials.
文摘This research aims to perform an energy input-output analysis of lavender plant production in Isparta Province of Turkey. In order to determine the energy use efficiency of lavender plant, experiments and trials have been conducted on 10 lavender farms around Keçiborlu region of Isparta Province.Keçiborlu region of Isparta Province is an important location for lavender production. On these 10 lavender farms, energy input-output has also been calculated through trial and measurement methods during the production season of 2013.In lavender production, energy input has been calculated as 6336.50 MJ/hm^(2)and energy output has been calculated as 17528.81 MJ/hm^(2).Energy inputs consist of chemical fertilizers energy by 52.88%,diesel energy by 33.32%,machinery energy by 9.72%,human labour energy by 2.85%and chemicals by 1.23%.Energy use efficiency, energy productivity, specific energy and net energy in lavender production have been calculated as 2.77;0.75 kg/MJ,1.34 MJ/kg and 11192.31 MJ/hm^(2),respectively.Benefit-cost ratio has been calculated as 3.41 by dividing the gross value of production by the total cost of production per hectare.
文摘Background Neonatal pain may affect long-term neurodevelopment and must be treated.Frenotomy is a painful procedure wherein a common strategy to relieve pain(sucking)cannot be used because the technique is performed on the tongue.Lavender essential oil(LEO)has sedative and antispasmodic properties and has been successfully used to treat pain during heel puncture and vaccination. Our aim was to demonstrate if the use of inhaled LEO is effective in reducing pain during frenotomy in healthy,full-term neonates. Methods We conducted a randomized clinical trial in neonates who underwent a frenotomy between August 2020 and April 2021.We assessed pain using pre and post-procedure heart rate and oxygen saturation, crying time and Neonatal Infant Pain Scale(NIPS)score.Patients with type 3 tongue tie were randomized into the“experimental group”and“control group”.In both groups,we performed swaddling, administered oral sucrose, and let the newborn suck for two minutes. In the experimental group,we also placed a gauze pad with one drop of LEO under the neonate’s nose for two minutes prior to and during the frenotomy. Results We enrolled 142 patients(71 per group). The experimental group showed significantly lower NIPS scores(1.88 vs 2.92)and cried almost half the amount of time(14.8 vs.24.6 seconds,P=0.006).Comparing with the control group,we observed no side effects in either of the groups. Conclusions We observed a significant decrease in crying time and lower NIPS scores in the neonates who received inhaled LEO and underwent a frenotomy for type 3 tongue-ties.Thus,we recommend using inhaled LEO during neonatal frenotomies.
文摘Background: Conscious patients admitted to intensive care units(ICUs) suffer from pain for various reasons, which can affect their recovery process. Objective: The present study compared the effects of aromatherapy with Citrus aurantium and lavender essential oils against placebo for reducing pain in conscious intensive care patients.Design, setting, participants and interventions: This study was a parallel randomized placebo-controlled trial. Our data could not justify the use of C. aurantium for reducing pain in this population.
文摘Essential oils of pure lavender and lavender blends have been employed as potential anxiolytic aromas in aromatherapy, but a direct comparison of their effectiveness is lacking. Future studies utilising brain imaging and blood serum analysis to investigate the anxiolytic mechanism of aromas would be beneficial to further our understanding.
