Vector control schemes have recently been used to drive linear induction motors(LIM)in high-performance applications. This trend promotes the development of precise and efficient control schemes for individual motors. This research aims to present a novel framework for speed and thrust force control of LIM using space vector pulse width modulation(SVPWM)inverters. The framework under consideration is developed in four stages. To begin,MATLAB Simulink was used to develop a detailed mathematical and electromechanical dynamicmodel. The research presents a modified SVPWM inverter control scheme.By tuning the proportional-integral(PI)controller with a transfer function, optimized values for the PI controller are derived. All the subsystems mentioned above are integrated to create a robust simulation of the LIM’s precise speed and thrust force control scheme. The reference speed values were chosen to evaluate the performance of the respective system, and the developed system’s response was verified using various data sets. For the low-speed range,a reference value of 10m/s is used, while a reference value of 100 m/s is used for the high-speed range. The speed output response indicates that themotor reached reference speed in amatter of seconds,as the delay time is between 8 and 10 s.The maximum amplitude of thrust achieved is less than 400N,demonstrating the controller’s capability to control a high-speed LIM with minimal thrust ripple.Due to the controlled speed range, the developed system is highly recommended for low-speed and high-speed and heavy-duty traction applications. 展开更多

In the linear induction motor control system, the optical grating speed transducer is susceptible to strong magnetic field interference. What's more,it may reduce motor integration and raise device costs. Therefore a speed identification method to replace grating speed transducer is studied in this article. This speed identification method for linear induction motor mainly adopts Model Reference Adaptive Method(Abbreviated as MRAS)and Popov Hyperstability Theory. The research content of this paper can be divided into four parts.First, the mathematical model of the motor based on the model reference adaptive system structure is deduced.Second, the adaptive law of the estimated speed is solved by Popov hyper-stability theory, which ensures the stability of the system.Third, the simulation model of the linear induction motor speed identification control system based on model reference adaptation is built in the MATLAB environment. Finally, the simulation test and analysis are carried out.The simulation results show that the speed identification control system can track the actual speed of the linear induction motor well in the no-load operation and the load operation, and the stability of the system is guaranteed in the full speed range. 展开更多

An adaptive current compensation control for a single-sided linear induction motor(SLIM) with nonlinear disturbance observer was developed. First, to maintain t-axis secondary component flux constant with consideration of the specially dynamic eddy-effect(DEE) of the SLIM, a instantaneously tracing compensation of m-axis current component was analyzed. Second, adaptive current compensation based on Taylor-discretization algorithm was proposed. Third, an effective kind of nonlinear disturbance observer(NDOB) was employed to estimate and compensate the undesired load vibrations, then the robustness of the control system could be guaranteed. Experimental verification of the feasibility of the proposed method for an SLIM control system was performed, and it showed that the proposed adaptive compensation scheme with NDOB could significantly promote speed dynamical response and minimize speed ripple under the conditions of external load coupled vibrations and unavoidable feedback control variables measured errors, i.e., current and speed. 展开更多

The paper deals with a new model of linear induction motor (LIM) to improve the reliability of the system. Based on the normal equation circuit of LIM considering the dynamic end effect, an equivalent circuit model with compensation of large end effect is constructed when the end effect force at synchronism is of braking character. The equivalent circuit model is used for secondary-flux oriented control of LIM. Single neuron network PI unit for LIM servo-drive is also discussed. The effectiveness of mathematical model for drive control is verified by simulations. 展开更多

To choose a reasonable mode of three-phase winding for the improvement of the operating efficiency of cascaded linear induction motor, the time and space characteristics of magnetomotive force were investigated. The ideal model of the cascaded linear induction motor was built, in which the B and C-phase windings are respectively separated from the A-phase winding by a distance of d and e slots pitch and not overlapped. By changing the values of d and e from 1 to 5, we can obtain 20 different modes of three-phase winding with the different combinations of d and e. Then, the air-gap magnetomotive forces of A-, B-, and C-phase windings were calculated by the magnetomotive force theory. According to the transient superposition of magnetomotive forces of A-, B-, and C-phase windings, the theoretical and simulated synthetic fundamental magnetomotive forces under 20 different arrangement modes were obtained. The results show that the synthetic magnetomotive force with d = 2 and e = 4 is close to forward sinusoidal traveling wave and the synthetic magnetomotive force with d = 4 and e = 2 is close to backward sinusoidal traveling wave, and their amplitudes and wave velocities are approximately constant and equal. In both cases, the motor could work normally with ahigh efficiency, but under other 18 arrangement modes (d= 1, e=2; d= 1, e=3; d= 1, e=4;...), the synthetic magnetomotive force presents obvious pulse vibration and moves with variable velocity, which means that the motor did not work normally and had high energy loss. 展开更多

Because of the end effect, a linear induction motor (LIM) runs in an asymmetrical state even though the winding of each phase is symmetric. Based on the basic principle of the LIM, a new approach was proposed to calculate the thrust of the LIM using the instantaneous current value. A three-phase LIM model with 12 slots and a singlelayer winding was designed to validate this method. The experiments show that when the current is small, the calculated results basically agree with the experiments. The agreement becomes worse with the increase of the current because of the saturation of the primary iron core. The proposed formula is suitable when the iron core of the LIM primary is in an unsaturated state. 展开更多

A new method to compensate the end effect of a linear induction motor (LIM) in low-speed maglev vehicles is proposed. With this method, the motors are close to each other so that the front motor's exit-end magnetic field extends into the next motor's entry zone. As a result, the motor's magnetic field traveling wave become continuous and the end effect of short primary LIMs is greatly weakened. In the analysis of the air-gap magnetic field distribution, the LIM is assumedly divided into two identical motors vcith the distances of 20, 40, 60, and gO ram. The results show that the air-gap magnetic field is still continuous within these distances due to LIM's end effect. As the distance between two motors increases, the distortion of the air-gap magnetic field becomes more severe. Then, we investigate the relationship between the secondary speed and the thrust in three cases, i.e., a single LIM, two motors divided with 72 mm with pole pitch corrected, and two motors divided with 60 mm without the pole pitch being corrected. We find that the thrust has a small decrease when the speed increases, which means that the magnetic field is already continuous and its amplitude is approximately a constant. Furthermore, the thrust loss of case 3 is more than that of case 2, which indicates that the pole pitch correction is effective. 展开更多

In general, it is important to operate the; airgap length uniformly for improving the system efficiency independent of the flatness of the reaction plate in a railway propulsion system by a linear induction motor (LIM). And it is possible to operate the LIM propulsion system efficiently without a change of the LIM capacity through the airgap length control on the sloped rail. So, in this research, the authors introduce an airgap control system to control the airgap length which depends on the flatness of the secondary reaction plate when the LIM is operated, and design a rotary small-scaled LIM and its airgap control system before manufacturing the real system. Then, the authors analyze some characteristics of the LIM (thrust and normal force, input current, efficiency and power factor), and through the LIM control modeling, the authors finally analyze an effect of the airgap-length control of the LIM by the airgap control system. 展开更多

This paper develops a coupled dynamics model for a linear induction motor (LIM) vehicle and a subway track to investigate the influence of polygonal wheels of the vehicle on the dynamic behavior of the system. In the model, the vehicle is modeled as a multi-body system with 35 degrees of freedom. A Timoshenko beam is used to model the rails which are discretely supported by sleepers. The sleepers are modeled as rigid bodies with their vertical, lateral, and rolling motions being considered. In order to simulate the vehicle running along the track, a moving sleeper support model is introduced to simulate the excitation by the discrete sleeper supporters, in which the sleepers are assumed to move backward at a constant speed that is the same as the train speed. The Hertzian contact theory and the Shen– Hedrick–Elkins’ model are utilized to deal with the normal dynamic forces and the tangential forces between wheels and rails, respectively. In order to better characterize the linear metro system (LMS), Euler beam theory based on modal superposition method is used to model LIM and RP. The vertical electric magnetic force and the lateral restoring force between the LIM and RP are also taken into consideration. The former has gap-varying nonlinear characteristics, whilst the latter is considered as a constant restoring force of 1 kN. The numerical analysis considers the effect of the excitation due to polygonal wheels on the dynamic behavior of the system at different wear stages, in which the used data regarding the polygonal wear on the wheel tread are directly measured at the subway site. 展开更多
