Here we report on anisotropic damping in various compositional amorphous CoFeB films grown on GaAs(001) substrates. Measured by a vector network analyzer-ferromagnetic resonance (VNA-FMR) equipment, a giant magnetic damping anisotropy of 385%, i.e., the damping constant increases by about four times, is observed in a 10-nm-thick Co40Fe40B20 film when its magnetization rotates from easy axis to hard axis, accompanied by a large and pure in-plane uniaxial magnetic anisotropy (UMA) with its anisotropic field of about 450 Oe. The distinct damping anisotropy is mainly resulted from anisotropic two-magnon-scattering induced by the interface between the ferromagnetic layer and the substrate, which also generates a significant UMA in the film plane.展开更多

Perpendicular spin valves in the nano thickness scale, consisting of a [Co/Ni]3free and a [Co/Ni]5/Tb Fe reference multilayer, show high giant magnetoresistance(GMR) signal of 6.5 % and a large switching field difference over3 k Oe. However, unexpected slanting of the free layer magnetization, accompanied by a reduced GMR ratio, was found to be caused by the presence of a thick Fe-rich or even a thin but Tb-rich Tb Fe layer. We attribute this phenomenon to the large magnetostriction effect of Tb Fe which probably induces strong stress acting on the free layer and hence reduces its interfacial PMA.展开更多

The perovskite/brownmillerite heterostructure is particularly interesting since symmetry mismatch may produce considerable interface reconstruction and unexpected physical effects. Here, we systemically study the magnetic anisotropy of tensely strained La2/3Sr1/3Co1-xMnxO2.5+δ/La2/3Sr1/3MnO3/La2/3Sr1/3Co1-xMnxO2.5+δ trilayers with interface structures changing from perovskite/brownmillerite type to perovskite/perovskite type. Without Mn doping, the initial La2/3Sr1/3CoO2.5+δ/La2/3Sr1/3MnO3/La2/3Sr1/3CoO2.5+δ trilayer with perovskite/brownmillerite interface type exhibits perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and the maximal anisotropy constant is 3.385×106 erg/cm3, which is more than one orders of magnitude larger than that of same strained LSMO film. By increasing the Mn doping concentration, the anisotropy constant displays monotonic reduction and even changes from perpendicular magnetic anisotropy to in-plane magnetic anisotropy, which is possible because of the reduced CoO4 tetrahedra concentration in the La2/3Sr1/3Co1-xMnxO2.5+δ layers near the interface. Based on the analysis of the x-ray linear dichroism, the orbital reconstruction of Mn ions occurs at the interface of the trilayers and thus results in the controllable magnetic anisotropy.展开更多

The distinct damping anisotropy is mainly resulted from anisotropic two-magnon-scattering induced by the interface between the ferromagnetic layer and the substrate, which also generates a significant UMA in the film plane.

文摘We demonstrate that radio frequency(RF)magnetron sputtering technique can modify the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy(PMA)of Pt/Co/normal metal(NM)thin films.Influence of ion irradiation during RF magnetron sputtering should not be neglected and it can weaken PMA of the deposited magnetic films. The magnitude of this influence can be controlled by tuning RF magnetron sputtering deposition conditions and the upper NM layer thickness.According to the stopping and range of ions in matter(SRIM)simulation results, defects such as displacement atoms and vacancies in the deposited film will increase after the RF magnetron sputtering, which can account for the weakness of PMA.The amplitude changes of the Hall resistance and the threshold current intensity of spin orbit torque(SOT)induced magnetization switching also can be modified. Our study could be useful for controlling magnetic properties of PMA films and designing new type of SOT-based spintronic devices.

文摘Compensated ferrimagnetic insulators are particularly interesting for enabling functional spintronic, optical, and microwave devices.Among many different garnets,Gd_(3)Fe_(5)O_(12)(GdIG)is a representative compensated ferrimagnetic insulator. In this paper,we will study the evolution of the surface morphology, the magnetic properties, and the magnetization compensation through changing the following parameters:the annealing temperature, the growth temperature, the annealing duration, and the choice of different single crystalline garnet substrates. Our objective is to find the optimized growth condition of the GdIG films, for the purpose of achieving a strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy(PMA)and a flat surface, together with a small effective damping parameter.Through our experiments,we have found that the surface roughness approaching 0.15 nm can be obtained by choosing the growth temperature around 700℃,together with an enhanced PMA.We have also found the modulation of magnetic anisotropy by choosing different single crystalline garnet substrates which change the tensile strain to the compressive strain.A measure of the effective magnetic damping parameter(α_(eff)=0.04±0.01)through a spin pumping experiment in a GdIG/Pt bilayer is also made.Through optimizing the growth dynamics of GdIG films, our results could be useful for synthesizing garnet films with a PMA,which could be beneficial for the future development of ferrimagnetic spintronics.

文摘Exchange coupling across the interface between a ferromagnetic(FM)layer and an antiferromagnetic(AFM)or another FM layer may induce a unidirectional magnetic anisotropy and/or a uniaxial magnetic anisotropy, which has been extensively studied due to the important application in magnetic materials and devices. In this work,we observed a fourfold magnetic anisotropy in amorphous Co Fe B layer when exchange coupling to an adjacent Fe Rh layer which is epitaxially grown on an SrTiO_(3)(001)substrate.As the temperature rises from 300 K to 400 K,Fe Rh film undergoes a phase transition from AFM to FM phase, the induced fourfold magnetic anisotropy in the Co Fe B layer switches the orientation from the Fe Rh<110>to Fe Rh<100>directions and the strength is obviously reduced. In addition, the effective magnetic damping as well as the two-magnon scattering of the Co Fe B/Fe Rh bilayer also remarkably increase with the occurrence of magnetic phase transition of Fe Rh.No exchange bias is observed in the bilayer even when Fe Rh is in the nominal AFM state, which is probably because the residual FM Fe Rh moments located at the interface can well separate the exchange coupling between the below pinned Fe Rh moments and the Co Fe B moments.

文摘Yttrium iron garnet(YIG) films possessing both perpendicular magnetic anisotropy(PMA) and low damping would serve as ideal candidates for high-speed energy-efficient spintronic and magnonic devices. However,it is still challenging to achieve PMA in YIG films thicker than 20 nm,which is a major bottleneck for their development. In this work,we demonstrate that this problem can be solved by using substrates with moderate lattice mismatch with YIG so as to suppress the excessive strain-induced stress release as increasing the YIG thickness. After carefully optimizing the growth and annealing conditions,we have achieved out-of-plane spontaneous magnetization in YIG films grown on sGGG substrates, even when they are as thick as 50 nm.Furthermore, ferromagnetic resonance and spin pumping induced inverse spin Hall effect measurements further verify the good spin transparency at the surface of our YIG films.

文摘The exchange-coupled [Co/Ni]N/Tb Fe nano-magnetic films can display strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy(PMA) which depends on the Tb:Fe component ratio, Tb Fe layer thickness and the repetition number N of [Co/Ni]Nmultilayer. We attribute this phenomenon to the large magnetostriction effect of Tb Fe which probably induces strong stress acting on the free layer and hence reduces its interfacial PMA.

文摘Single molecule magnets(SMMs) with large magnetic anisotropy energy(MAE) have great potential applications in magnetic recording.Using the first-principles calculations,we investigate the MAE of 5 d transition metal-porphyrin-based SMMs by using the PBE and PBE+U with different U values, respectively. The results indicate that W-P,Re-P,Os-P,and Ir-P possess the considerably large MAE among 5 d TM-P SMMs.Furthermore, the MAE of 5 d TM-P can be facilely manipulated by tensile strain. The reduction of the absolute value of MAE for Ir-P molecule caused by tensile strain makes it easier to implement the writing operation. The decreasing of the occupation number of minority-spin channels of Ir-d_(x^(2)-y^(2)) orbital leads the MAE to decrease when the tensile strain increases.

文摘Grouping different oxide materials with coupled charge, spin, and orbital degrees of freedom together to form heterostructures provides a rich playground to explore the emergent interfacial phenomena. Based on the analysis of the x-ray linear dichroism, the orbital reconstruction of Mn ions occurs at the interface of the trilayers and thus results in the controllable magnetic anisotropy.

文摘The magnetic anisotropy manipulation in the Sm_(3)Fe_(5)O_(12)(SmIG)films and its effect on the interfacial spin coupling in the CoFe/SmIG heterostructures were studied carefully.By switching the orientation of the Gd_(3)Ga_(5)O_(12)substrates from(111)to(001),the magnetic anisotropy of obtained SmIG films shifts from in-plane to out-of-plane.Similar results can also be obtained in the films on Gd_(3)Ga_(5)O_(12)substrates,which identifies the universality of such orientation-induced magnetic anisotropy switching.Additionally, the interfacial spin coupling and magnetic anisotropy switching effect on the spin wave in CoFe/SmIG magnetic heterojunctions have also been explored by utilizing the time-resolved magneto-optical Kerr effect technique. It is intriguing to find that both the frequency and effective damping factor of spin precession in CoFe/SmIG heterojunctions can be manipulated by the magnetic anisotropy switching of SmIG films. These findings not only provide a route for the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy acquisition but also give a further path for spin manipulation in magnetic films and heterojunctions.
文摘Pd/Co_(2)MnSi(CMS)/NiFe_(2)O_(4)(NFO)/Pd multilayers were fabricated on F-mica substrate by magnetron sputtering. The best PMA performance of the multilayer structure Pd(3 nm)/CMS(5 nm)/NFO(0.8 nm)/Pd(3 nm)was obtained by adjusting the thickness of the CMS and NFO layers.F-mica substrate has a flatter surface than glass and Si/SiO_(2) substrate. The magnetic anisotropy energy density(K_(eff))of the sample deposited on F-mica substrates is 0.6711 Merg/cm^(3)(1 erg=10^(-7) J),which is about 30%higher than that of the multilayer films deposited on glass(0.475 Merg/cm^(3))and Si/SiO_(2)(0.511 Merg/cm^(3))substrates,and the R_(Hall) and H_(C) are also significantly increased. In this study, the NFO layer prepared by sputtering in the high purity Ar environment was exposed to the high purity O_(2) atmosphere for 5 min, which can effectively eliminate the oxygen loss and oxygen vacancy in NFO,ensuring enough Co-O orbital hybridization at the interface of CMS/NFO,and thus effectively improve the sample PMA.

文摘The magneto-optical effects of rare earth ferrite can be greatly improved by doping Ce^(3+)ions.CeFeO_(3)with high Ce^(3+)concentration has excellent magneto-optical properties in theory. And due to its perovskite structure it is more suitable to be deposited on the substrates of optical devices compared with the commercial garnet ferrite. In this paper, the pure phase Ce_(x)Fe_(2-x)O_(3)films were successfully obtained on the quartz glass and <100>-oriented SrTiO3crystal substrates by radio frequency magnetron sputtering. The effects of substrate and Ce:Fe ratio on the epitaxial orientation, magnetism and magnetooptical performance of films were systematically studied. For the Ce1.0Fe1.0O3/STO film, its MCD ellipticity(ψF) intensity can reach up to 4750(°)/cm in the visible band and 14090(°)/cm in near ultraviolet band. And it also shows a strong vertical magnetic anisotropy, which makes it maintain a good thermal stability when the device size is reduced. These mean that the Ce_(1.0)Fe_(1.0)O_(3)/STO film has a promising application in integrated optical communication devices.

文摘The two-dimensional(2D)magnets provide novel opportunities for understanding magnetism and investigating spin related phenomena in several atomic thickness.Multiple features of 2D magnets, such as critical temperatures,magnetoelectric/magneto-optic responses, and spin configurations, depend on the basic magnetic terms that describe various spins interactions and cooperatively determine the spin Hamiltonian of studied systems. In this review,we present a comprehensive survey of three types of basic terms, including magnetic anisotropy that is intimately related with longrange magnetic order, exchange coupling that normally dominates the spin interactions, and Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya interaction(DMI)that favors the noncollinear spin configurations, from the theoretical aspect. We introduce not only the physical features and origin of these crucial terms in 2D magnets but also many correlated phenomena, which may lead to the advance of 2D spintronics.

文摘The c-axis oriented hcp-Co_(81)Ir_(19)magnetic films were prepared on different seed layers(Ni,Cu,Ir,Pt,Au,and No seed). We systematically investigated the impact that surface-free energy and strain energy have on the orientation and defects and/or internal stress of the grains by increasing the lattice mismatch ratio. Moreover, the initial permeability and the natural resonance frequency were discussed in great detail using a comparison between calculated values and experimental values. We found that the almost unchanged 4πM_(s) andμ_(i) are not affected, while the changed H_(c),intrinsic K_(grain),and f_(r) are strongly dependent on the seed layer and seed layer material. Moreover, the extracted damping constant is sensitive to the defects and/or internal stress and orientation of the grains. Therefore, the soft magnetic properties and microwave properties are adjusted and optimized by seed layers with different materials.
