Aim To research the computer optimization design in material formulation. Methods The professional software including experimental design, mathematical modeling and optimization of single and multiple purposes was developed and applied to the formulation design for the flame retardant ethylenepropylene-diene mischpolymer (EPDM) insulation composites. With the aid of equipartition design, the mathematical models were established based on the optimization of the four properties (limiting oxygen index, volume resistance, tensile strength and elongation). Results The models from limited experiments had good significance, and the modeling analysis conclusions were in good agreement with later experiments. The optimization formulation was practically excellent. Conclusion The software enables practically a comprehensive multi-purpose use of material formulation research. 展开更多

The creations of more ecovillages, along with the growth of current ecovillages, play an important role in positively solvening environmental and social problems. Medicinal plants,as medicinal materials and important drug components,have been used in traditional and folk medicine for ages.However,being sessile organisms,they are seriously affected by extreme environmental conditions and abiotic stresses such as salt,heavy metal,temperature,and water stresses.Medicinal plants usually produce specific secondary metabolites to survive such stresses,and these metabolites can often be used for treating human diseases.Recently,medicinal plants have been found to partner with endophytic fungi to form a long-term,stable,and win-win symbiotic relationship.Endophytic fungi can promote secondary metabolite accumulation in medicinal plants.The close relationship can improve host plant resistance to the abiotic stresses of soil salinity,drought,and extreme temperatures.Their symbiosis also sheds light on plant growth and active compound production.Here,we show that endophytic fungi can improve the host medicinal plant resistance to abiotic stress by regulating active compounds,reducing oxidative stress,and regulating the cell ion balance.We also identify the deficiencies and burning issues of available studies and present promising research topics for the future.This review provides guidance for endophytic fungi research to improve the ability of medicinal plants to resist abiotic stress.It also suggests ideas and methods for active compound accumulation in medicinal plants and medicinal material development during the response to abiotic stress. 展开更多

Solid oxide electrolysis cell(SOEC)is a promising water electrolysis technology that produces hydrogen or syngas through water electrolysis or water and carbon dioxide co-electrolysis.Green hydrogen or syngas can be produced by SOEC with renewable energy.Thus,SOEC has attracted continuous attention in recent years for the urgency of developing environmentally friendly energy sources and achieving carbon neutrality.Focusing on 1276 related articles retrieved from the Web of Science(WoS)database,the historical development of SOECs are depicted from 1983 to 2023 in this paper.The co-occurrence networks of the countries,source journals,and author keywords are generated.Moreover,three main clusters showing different content of the SOEC research are identified and analyzed.Furthermore,the scientometric analysis and the content of the high-cited articles of the research of different topics of SOECs:fuel electrode,air electrode,electrolyte,co-electrolysis,proton-conducting SOECs,and the modeling of SOECs are also presented.The results show that co-electrolysis and proton-conducting SOECs are two popular directions in the study of SOECs.This paper provides a straightforward reference for researchers interested in the field of SOEC research,helping them navigate the landscape of this area of study,locate potential partners,secure funding,discover influential scholars,identify leading countries,and access key research publications. 展开更多

Nano-enhanced solid-state hydrogen storage:Balancing discovery and pragmatism for future energy solutions

Nanomaterials have revolutionized the battery industry by enhancing energy storage capacities and charging speeds,and their application in hydrogen(H_(2))storage likewise holds strong potential,though with distinct challenges and mechanisms.H_(2) is a crucial future zero-carbon energy vector given its high gravimetric energy density,which far exceeds that of liquid hydrocarbons.However,its low volumetric energy density in gaseous form currently requires storage under high pressure or at low temperature.This review critically examines the current and prospective landscapes of solid-state H_(2) storage technologies,with a focus on pragmatic integration of advanced materials such as metal-organic frameworks(MOFs),magnesium-based hybrids,and novel sorbents into future energy networks.These materials,enhanced by nanotechnology,could significantly improve the efficiency and capacity of H_(2) storage systems by optimizing H_(2) adsorption at the nanoscale and improving the kinetics of H_(2) uptake and release.We discuss various H_(2) storage mechanisms—physisorption,chemisorption,and the Kubas interaction—analyzing their impact on the energy efficiency and scalability of storage solutions.The review also addresses the potential of“smart MOFs”,single-atom catalyst-doped metal hydrides,MXenes and entropy-driven alloys to enhance the performance and broaden the application range of H_(2) storage systems,stressing the need for innovative materials and system integration to satisfy future energy demands.High-throughput screening,combined with machine learning algorithms,is noted as a promising approach to identify patterns and predict the behavior of novel materials under various conditions,significantly reducing the time and cost associated with experimental trials.In closing,we discuss the increasing involvement of various companies in solid-state H_(2) storage,particularly in prototype vehicles,from a techno-economic perspective.This forward-looking perspective underscores the necessity for ongoing material innovation and system optimization to meet the stringent energy demands and ambitious sustainability targets increasingly in demand. 展开更多

Recent years are showing a rapid adoption of digital manufacturing techniques to the construction industry,with a focus on additive manufacturing.Although 3D printing for construction(3DPC)has notably advanced in recent years,publications on the subject are recent and date a growth in 2019,indicating that it is a promising technology as it enables greater efficiency with fair consumption of material,minimization of waste generation,encouraging the construction industrialization and enhancing and accelerating the constructive process.This new building system not only gives an optimization of the building process but provides a new approach to the building design materiality.The direct connection between design and manufacturing allows the reduction in the number of the various construction phases needed.It is opening a new and wide range of options both formal and chromatic in customization,avoiding complex formworks,reducing costs and manufacturing time.The creative process has a strict and direct link with the constructive process,straightening design with its materiality.Cement-based materials lead the way,but new alternatives are being explored to further reduce its carbon footprint.In order to leverage its sustainability and enhance the system capacity,initiatives are being pursued to allow the reduction of the use of PC.Geopolimers are taking the first steps in 3DPC.Construction and Demolition Waste(CDW)materials are used to substitute natural aggregates.Even soil is being explored has a structural and aesthetic material.These research trends are opening a wider range of possibilities for architecture and design,broadening the spectrum of color,texture,and formal variations.The concern about textures and colours is not yet evident in many the structures already printed,opening the opportunity for future research.More can be done in the mixture and formal design of this building system,“discovering”other raw materials in others waste.This article aims to make a critical review of technologies,materials and methodologies to support the development of new sustainable materials to be used as a plastic element in the printed structure.A roadmap of 3D printing for construction is presented,and an approach on mix design,properties in the fresh and hardened state,highlighting the possibilities for obtaining alternative materials are pointed.With this review possible directions are presented to find solutions to enhance the sustainability of this system discovering“new”materiality for architecture and design. 展开更多
