This development requires new mathematical methods of dynamic logic (DL), which have overcome limitations of classical artificial intelligence and connectionist approaches. The paper discusses these past limitations, relates them to combinatorial complexity (exponential explosion) of algorithms in the past, and relates it further to the static nature of classical logic. DL is a process-logic;its salient property is evolution of vague representations into crisp. We first consider one aspect of PSS: situation learning from object perceptions. Next DL is related to PSS mechanisms of concepts, simulators, grounding, embodiment, productiveity, binding, recursion, and to the mechanisms relating embodied-grounded and amodal symbols. We discuss DL capability for modeling cognition on multiple levels of abstraction. PSS is extended toward interaction between cognition and language. Experimental predictions of the theory are discussed. They might influence experimental psychology and impact future theoretical developments in cognitive science, including knowledge representation, and mechanisms of interaction between perception, cognition, and language. All mathematical equations are also discussed conceptually, so mathematical understanding is not required. Experimental evidence for DL and PSS in brain imaging is discussed as well as future research directions.展开更多

In response to the journal’s feedback, we have enhanced the abstract to provide a more comprehensive overview of our study. Background: We trace the historical evolution of ideas, from the inception of cognitive science rooted in analytic philosophy to the groundbreaking contributions of Rodney Brooks and others in the field of artificial intelligence. We also explore the work of scholars such as Agre, Chapman, and Dreyfus, shedding light on the role of cognitive metaphor and the concept of the cognitive unconscious in shaping our understanding of embodied cognition. Purpose: Our study aims to shed light on the central theme that unites these various strands of thought—the rejection of the traditional, transcendental view of the subject in favor of the concept of an embodied subject. This embodied subject actively engages with its environment, shaping consciousness and cognition. This shift in perspective challenges classical epistemological theories and opens new avenues for inquiry. Method: We have conducted a comprehensive literature review to explore the historical development and key concepts in the field of embodied cognition, with a particular focus on the philosophical underpinnings and their integration into cognitive science. Results: Our examination of embodied cognition reveals that the mind is intimately connected to the body, with cognition emerging through interactions with the environment and perceptual experiences. This perspective challenges reductionist notions and demonstrates that mental states cannot be reduced to brain states alone. We also explore the relationship between functionalism and computational states of the brain, illustrating that mental states can be understood in the context of mathematical functions. Conclusion: In conclusion, this paper highlights the profound implications of embodied cognition and suggests that the mind is not isolated from the body but intimately tied to it. This perspective provides a fresh approach to the mind-body problem, emphasizing the role of the environment and perceptual experiences in shaping cognition. We invite further research into the practical applications of embodied cognition in fields like artificial intelligence, robotics, and psychology, and encourage investigations into the intersections between cognitive science and various branches of philosophy, offering valuable insights into the nature of consciousness and cognition. In essence, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the evolution and implications of embodied cognition, laying the groundwork for further research and fostering a deeper appreciation of the profound shifts in perspective that this theory brings to our understanding of the human mind.展开更多

The scheme is analyzed and used to provide an existence-uniqueness result. Numerical simulations are performed in order to demonstrate the first-order rate of convergence. A sensitivity analysis was done in order to compare the effects of two drug types, those that increase the death rate of HPV-infected cells, and those that increase the death rate of the precancerous cell population. The model predicts that treatments that affect the precancerous cell population by directly increasing the corresponding death rate are far more effective than those that increase the death rate of HPV-infected cells.展开更多

In Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) as a pre-dementia stage, sleepdisturbances have raised much interest as a factor in a bidirectional relationship with cognitive decline. Thus, this studydeveloped the Sleep and Cognition Enhancement Multimodal Intervention (SCEMI) based on Lazarus’ multimodal approachand conducted a randomized controlled experiment to investigate the effects of the novel program on sleep and cognition inMCI elderly. The participants were 55 MCI elderly with sleep disturbances at two dementia care centers located in S-city,Gyeonggi-do, South Korea (n = 25 in the experimental group and n = 30 in the control group). The study period was fromNovember 01 to December 27, 2022. The experimental group received 8 sessions of SCEMI, 60 min per session once a week. The control group received general education and guidance using a simplified booklet on the sleep and cognitive improvement. For data collection, a self-reported questionnaire was used to investigate sleep quality, presleep arousal, cognitive function, stress, and depression. The results showed that, compared to the control group, the experimental group had significantlyimproved across all variables: sleep quality (U = 109.50, p < 0.001), presleep arousal (U = 11.50, p < 0.001), cognitive function(U = 72.00, p < 0.001), stress (U = 139.00, p < 0.001), and depression (U = 231.50, p = 0.015). Thus, the SCEMI appears topositively affect symptomatic improvement and delays the progression to dementia as an integrated intervention to enhancesleep and cognition in community-dwelling MCI elderly with sleep disturbances.展开更多

Firstly, the mathematical model indicators of the spread of the new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic are determined by combining the theory of infectious diseases, the basic assumptions of the spread model of the new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic are given based on the theory of data analysis model, the spread rate of the new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic is calculated by combining the results of the assumptions, and the spread rate of the epidemic is inverted to push back into the assumptions to complete the construction of the mathematical modeling of the diffusion. Relevant data at different times were collected and imported into the model to obtain the spread data of the new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic, and the results were analyzed and reflected. The model considers the disease spread rate as the dependent variable of temperature, and analyzes and verifies the spread of outbreaks over time under real temperature changes. Comparison with real results shows that the model developed in this paper is more in line with the real disease spreading situation under specific circumstances. It is hoped that the accurate prediction of the epidemic spread can provide relevant help for the effective containment of the epidemic spread.展开更多

Healthcare personnel, especially physicians, are chronically exposed to long working hours, which are often accompanied by decreased sleep time. Clinical evidence indicates that these conditions affect their cognitive function and professional practice, but researchers in the field have not sufficiently explored the possible effects of reductions in sleep time on social cognition. Objective: The aim of this is to further explore the effects of sleep restriction among medical residents, the specific impairments in social cognition that it produces, and the effects of a sleep hygiene orientation on those impairments. Method: There were 124 medical residents (50 males, 74 females) who completed a daily sleep/work log, a battery of sleep tests/questionnaires, and neuropsychological evaluations. The participants then received a short course (8 hours) on basic concepts of sleep hygiene and sleep psychoeducation. Once the course was completed, participants filled out the questionnaires again. Results: The results indicate that sleep disturbances in medical residents were associated with severe neurocognitive and social cognition impairments. After the sleep hygiene intervention, neuropsychological function and sleep parameters improved, awareness increased, and social cognition performance significantly improved. Conclusion: Using sleep psychoeducation and sleep hygiene intervention in medical residents is a simple strategy to mitigate the effects of sleep restriction.展开更多

文摘Memory deficit, which is often associated with aging and many psychiatric, neurological, and neurodegenerative diseases, has been a challenging issue for treatment.Up till now,all potential drug candidates have failed to produce satisfa ctory effects. Therefore,in the search for a solution,we found that a treatment with the gene corresponding to the RGS14414protein in visual area V2,a brain area connected with brain circuits of the ventral stream and the medial temporal lobe, which is crucial for object recognition memory(ORM),can induce enhancement of ORM.In this study,we demonstrated that the same treatment with RGS14414in visual area V2,which is relatively unaffected in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer s disease, produced longlasting enhancement of ORM in young animals and prevent ORM deficits in rodent models of aging and Alzheimer’s disease.Furthermore,we found that the prevention of memory deficits was mediated through the upregulation of neuronal arbo rization and spine density,as well as an increase in brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF).A knockdown of BDNF gene in RGS14414-treated aging rats and Alzheimer s disease model mice caused complete loss in the upregulation of neuronal structural plasticity and in the prevention of ORM deficits. These findings suggest that BDNF-mediated neuronal structural plasticity in area V2 is crucial in the prevention of memory deficits in RGS14414-treated rodent models of aging and Alzheimer’s disease. Therefore, our findings of RGS14414gene-mediated activation of neuronal circuits in visual area V2 have therapeutic relevance in the treatment of memory deficits.
文摘A mathematical model of perceptual symbol system is developed. Experimental evidence for DL and PSS in brain imaging is discussed as well as future research directions.

文摘This article delves into the intricate relationship between cognitive science and embodied cognition, offering transformative philosophical insights with profound implications for our understanding of the mind-body connection. In essence, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the evolution and implications of embodied cognition, laying the groundwork for further research and fostering a deeper appreciation of the profound shifts in perspective that this theory brings to our understanding of the human mind.
文摘We present a first-order finite difference scheme for approximating solutions of a mathematical model of cervical cancer induced by the human papillomavirus (HPV), which consists of four nonlinear partial differential equations and a nonlinear first-order ordinary differential equation. The model predicts that treatments that affect the precancerous cell population by directly increasing the corresponding death rate are far more effective than those that increase the death rate of HPV-infected cells.

文摘Intellectualization has been an inevitable trend in the information network, allowing the network to achieve the capabilities of self-learning,self-optimization,and self-evolution in the dynamic environment.Due to the strong adaptability to the environment, the cognitive theory methods from psychology gradually become an excellent approach to construct the intelligent information network(IIN),making the traditional definition of the intelligent information network no longer appropriate. Moreover, the thinking capability of existing IINs is always limited. This paper redefines the intelligent information network and illustrates the required properties of the architecture, core theory, and critical technologies by analyzing the existing intelligent information network.Besides,we innovatively propose a novel network cognition model with the network knowledge to implement the intelligent information network. The proposed model can perceive the overall environment data of the network and extract the knowledge from the data.As the model’s core, the knowledge guides the model to generate the optimal decisions adapting to the environmental changes. At last,we present the critical technologies needed to accomplish the proposed network cognition model.

文摘This article focuses on the relationship between mathematical morphology operations and rough sets, mainly based on the context of image retrieval and the basic image correspondence problem.Mathematical morphological procedures and set approximations in rough set theory have some clear parallels.Numerous initiatives have been made to connect rough sets with mathematical morphology.Numerous significant publications have been written in this field.Others attempt to show a direct connection between mathematical morphology and rough sets through relations,a pair of dual operations, and neighborhood systems.Rough sets are used to suggest a strategy to approximatemathematicalmorphology within the general paradigm of soft computing.A single framework is defined using a different technique that incorporates the key ideas of both rough sets and mathematical morphology. This paper examines rough set theory from the viewpoint of mathematical morphology to derive rough forms of themorphological structures of dilation, erosion, opening, and closing. These newly defined structures are applied to develop algorithm for the differential analysis of chest X-ray images from a COVID-19 patient with acute pneumonia and a health subject. The algorithm and rough morphological operations show promise for the delineation of lung occlusion in COVID-19 patients from chest X-rays.The foundations of mathematical morphology are covered in this article. After that, rough set theory ideas are taken into account, and their connections are examined. Finally,a suggested image retrieval application of the concepts from these two fields is provided.
文摘Dementia prevalence has soared due to population aging. Thus, the SCEMI appears topositively affect symptomatic improvement and delays the progression to dementia as an integrated intervention to enhancesleep and cognition in community-dwelling MCI elderly with sleep disturbances.
文摘To better predict the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak, mathematical modeling and analysis of the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak is proposed based on data analysis and infectious disease theory. It is hoped that the accurate prediction of the epidemic spread can provide relevant help for the effective containment of the epidemic spread.
文摘Introduction: Sleep is critical to human physiological function, cognitive performance, and emotional regulation. Conclusion: Using sleep psychoeducation and sleep hygiene intervention in medical residents is a simple strategy to mitigate the effects of sleep restriction.
文摘In this research work,we constructed the optical soliton solutions of nonlinear complex Kundu-Eckhaus(KE)equation with the help of modified mathematical method. We obtained the solutions in the form of dark solitons, bright solitons and combined dark-bright solitons, travelling wave and periodic wave solutions with general coefficients. In our knowledge earlier reported results of the KE equation with specific coefficients. These obtained solutions are more useful in the development of optical fibers, dynamics of solitons, dynamics of adiabatic parameters, dynamics of fluid, problems of biomedical, industrial phenomena and many other branches. All calculations show that this technique is more powerful, effective, straightforward, and fruitfulness to study analytically other higher-order nonlinear complex PDEs involves in mathematical physics, quantum physics,Geo physics, fluid mechanics, hydrodynamics, mathematical biology, field of engineering and many other physical sciences.

文摘The hippocampal formation of the brain contains a series of nerve cells related to environmental cognition and navigation. These cells can integrate their moment information and external perceptual information and acquire episodic cognitive memory.Through episodic cognition and memory, organisms can achieve autonomous navigation in complex environments. This paper mainly studies the strategy of robot episode navigation in complex environments. After exploring the environment, the robot obtains subjective environmental cognition and forms a cognition map.The grid cells information contained in the cognitive map can obtain the direction and distance of the target through vector calculation, which can get a shortcut through the inexperienced area. The synaptic connection of place cells in the cognitive map can be used as the topological relationship between episode nodes. When the target-oriented vector navigation encounters obstacles, the obstacles can be realized by setting closer sub-targets.Based on the known obstacle information obtained from boundary cells in the cognitive map, topological paths can be divided into multi-segment vector navigation to avoid encountering obstacles. This paper combines vector and topological navigation to achieve goal-oriented and robust navigation capability in a complex environment.

文摘Overtopping is one of the main reasons for the breaching of concrete-face sand-gravel dams(CFSGDs).In this study,a refined mathematical model was established based on the characteristics of the overtopping breaching of CFSGDs.The model characteristics were as follows:(1)Based on the Renormailzation Group(RNG)k-εturbulence theory and volume of fluid(VOF)method, the turbulent characteristics of the dam-break flow were simulated, and the erosion surface of the water and soil was tracked;(2)In consideration of the influence of the change in the sediment content on the dam-break flow, the dam material transport equation, which could reflect the characteristics of particle settlement and entrainment motion, was used to simulate the erosion process of the sand gravels;(3)Based on the bending moment balance method,a failure equation of the concrete face slab under dead weight and water load was established. The proposed model was verified through a case study on the failure of the Gouhou CFSGD.The results showed that the proposed model could well simulate the erosion mode of the special vortex flow of the CFSGD scouring the support body of the concrete face slab inward and reflect the mutual coupling relationship between the dam-break flow, sand gravels, and concrete face slabs.Compared with the measured values, the relative errors of the peak discharge, final breach average width, dam breaching duration, and maximum failure length of the face slab calculated using the proposed model were all less than 12%,thus verifying the rationality of the model. The proposed model was demonstrated to perform better and provide more detailed results than three selected parametric models and three simplified mathematical models. The study results can aid in establishing the risk level and devising early warning strategies for CFSGDs.
