BACKGROUND The literature has discussed the relationship between environmental factors and depressive disorders;however, the results are inconsistent in different studies and regions,as are the interaction effects between environmental factors. We hypo-thesized that meteorological factors and ambient air pollution individually affect and interact to affect depressive disorder morbidity.AIM To investigate the effects of meteorological factors and air pollution on depressive disorders, including their lagged effects and interactions.METHODS The samples were obtained from a class 3 hospital in Harbin,China.Daily hos-pital admission data for depressive disorders from January 1,2015 to December 31,2022 were obtained.Meteorological and air pollution data were also collected during the same period.Generalized additive models with quasi-Poisson regre-ssion were used for time-series modeling to measure the non-linear and delayed effects of environmental factors. We further incorporated each pair of environ-mental factors into a bivariate response surface model to examine the interaction effects on hospital admissions for depressive disorders.RESULTS Data for 2922 d were included in the study, with no missing values. The total number of depressive admissions was 83905.Medium to high correlations existed between environmental factors.Air temperature(AT)and wind speed(WS)significantly affected the number of admissions for depression. An extremely low temperature(-29.0℃)at lag 0 caused a 53%[relative risk(RR)=1.53,95%confidence interval(CI):1.23-1.89]increase in daily hospital admissions relative to the median temperature.Extremely low WSs(0.4 m/s)at lag 7 increased the number of admissions by 58%(RR=1.58,95%CI:1.07-2.31).In contrast, atmospheric pressure and relative humidity had smaller effects.Among the six air pollutants considered in the time-series model, nitrogen dioxide(NO_(2))was the only pollutant that showed significant effects over non-cumulative,cumulative,immediate,and lagged conditions. The cumulative effect of NO_(2) at lag 7 was 0.47%(RR=1.0047,95%CI:1.0024-1.0071).Interaction effects were found between AT and the five air pollutants, atmospheric temperature and the four air pollutants,WS and sulfur dioxide.CONCLUSION Meteorological factors and the air pollutant NO_(2) affect daily hospital admissions for depressive disorders, and interactions exist between meteorological factors and ambient air pollution. 展开更多

Objective:This general non-systematic review aimed to gather information on reported statistical models examing the effects of meteorological factors on coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)and compare these models. Methods:PubMed,Web of Science, and Google Scholar were searched for studies on"meteorological factors and COVID-19"published between January 1,2020,and October 1,2022.Results:The most commonly used approaches for analyzing the association between meteorological factors and COVID-19 were the linear regression model(LRM),generalized linear model(GLM),generalized additive model(GAM),and distributed lag non-linear model(DLNM).In addition to these classical models commonly applied in environmental epidemiology, machine learning techniques are increasingly being used to select risk factors for the outcome of interest and establishing robust prediction models. Conclusion:Selecting an appropriate model is essential before conducting research. To ensure the reliability of analysis results,it is important to consider including non-meteorological factors(e.g.,government policies on physical distancing, vaccination, and hygiene practices)along with meteorological factors in the model. 展开更多

In order to reveal the rapid increase mechanism of particulate concentration in short time,a notion of short-term cumulative effect of air particulate is defined as the significant increase of pollutant concentration in a short time under the condition of breeze, stable weather and constant emission caused by human being's activities. Subsequently,an index of short-term cumulative effect is established with air diffusive equation, and then the macro-scale meteorological situation and micro-scale factors of forming the short-term cumulative effect are discussed with the observation data. The macro-scale meteorological variables contain upper-level weather situations and surface weather situations. The micro-scale factors mainly include the boundary-layer height and boundary-layer stability. The analyses show that boundary-layer factors and weather variables have a significant influence on the short-term cumulative effect. The notion of short-term cumulative effect will play an important role in interpreting the severe pollution weather. 展开更多

Background: Mongolia is situated in northern Central Asia. Landlocked between China and Russia, it is a vast expanse of high attitude grassland steppe, desert, and mountain covering an area of 1,565,000 square kilometers. Air pollution is an increasingly series problem in Mongolia. Materials and Methods: This is a time-series cross over study. All health and air pollution data of 2008-2017 was used for this survey. Results: The mean level of SO2 during the cold season was 35.22 μg/m3 and during the warm season it was 4.65 μg/m3. 24 hours PM10 concentration, during the cold season daily average concentration was 226.77 μg/m3. The 8 hours average daily carbon monoxide concentration (1352.85 μg/m3 [95% CI: 1313.07 - 1396.15]) was high during the cold season, ozone concentration (39.10 μg/m3 [95% CI: 37.95 - 40.35]) was high during the warm season. Air quality depends on metrological parameters. All correlation was statistically significant during the whole year and cold season. In total, 288,832 people get admitted to the hospital due to cardiovascular system disease in Ulaanbaatar during the year of 2008-2017. In general, hospitalization is increasing year by year. Significant associations were found for SO2 with hypertensive diseases (I10 - I15), ischemic heart diseases (I20 - I25), cerebrovascular diseases (I60 - I69), diseases of pulmonary circulation and other forms of heart (I00 - I09, I26 - I52) in all lags. For NO2 was less associated with Ischemic heart diseases (I20 - I25) and diseases of pulmonary circulation and other forms of heart (I00 - I09, I26 - I52). For both PM10 and PM2.5, every disease had observed significant RR in lag 0 - 3. Significant associations were found for air pollutants such as PM10, PM2.5, CO, SO2, and O3 in all lags had a statistically significant association with cold season’s cardiovascular system disease admission. As expected during the warm season significant association was found only lag 1 with PM2.5 and lags (0, 1) CO and O3. Conclusion: As expected this study demonstrated significant correlations between cardiovascular morbidity with PM2.5, PM10, NO2, SO2, CO, O3, and some meteorological parameters. 展开更多

Based on the daily data of visits for respiratory diseases in two grade A hospitals as well as meteorological factors and air pollution in Fuxin City from December 1, 2020 to November 31, 2021, PCA and RBF neural network were used to study the effects of meteorological factors and air pollution on respiratory diseases and predict them. The results showed that the number of daily visits was the largest in winter(accounting for 62.5%), followed by spring(15.2%), and it was the smallest in autumn(only 6.9%). The correlation between the number of daily visits and meteorological factors was higher than that of air pollution factors, and the correlation with temperature and ozone was the highest. The response coefficient of daily visits to each factor increased first and then decreased within 9 d, and the peak was 4-5 d behind. RBF and PCA-RBF neural network models were established to predict the number of daily visits, and the accuracy was 86.3% and 95.2%, respectively. 展开更多

Objective To explore the associations between the monthly number of dengue fever(DF) cases and possible risk factors in Guangzhou, a subtropical city of China. Methods The monthly number of DF cases, Breteau Index(BI), and meteorological measures during 2006-2014 recorded in Guangzhou, China, were assessed. A negative binomial regression model was used to evaluate the relationships between BI, meteorological factors, and the monthly number of DF cases. Results A total of 39,697 DF cases were detected in Guangzhou during the study period. DF incidence presented an obvious seasonal pattern, with most cases occurring from June to November. The current month's BI, average temperature(Tave), previous month's minimum temperature(Tmin), and Tave were positively associated with DF incidence. A threshold of 18.25 °C was found in the relationship between the current month's Tmin and DF incidence. Conclusion Mosquito density, Tave, and Tmin play a critical role in DF transmission in Guangzhou. These findings could be useful in the development of a DF early warning system and assist in effective control and prevention strategies in the DF epidemic. 展开更多

Objective:To analyze the impact of meteorological factors on the incidence of influenza based on the Yunqi theory in Beijing area, and to establish an effective forecast modelMethods:Monthly data on the incidence of influenza from 1970 to 2004 and daily data on the meteorological factors (including daily averages of temperature, wind speed, relative humidity, vapor pressure, and daily total precipitation) from 1966 to 2004 were collected and processed under the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory of six qi.A back-propagation artificial neural network was then performed to analyze the data. Results:The highest incidence of influenza occurs in the sixth qi (the period of December and January),which is characterized by dryness and coldness.Altogether six models were successfully established.Climatic data used were of the same year, one year prior, two years prior, and three years prior to the influenza data respectively. The last two models involve climatic data of the previous three years plus the current year and of the past four years plus the current year. Finally,we determined the fifth model has the highest forecast accuracy (49%).Conclusions:Meteorological factors can exert an influence on the incidence of influenza, which corresponds to TCM theory that 'the pestilence occurred three years after the abnormal climatic changes'.This study may generate interest among the public health community and other TCM theories can be applied so that public health measures can be taken to prevent and control influenza, particularly during the winter months. 展开更多

In this article, the quantitative impact and significance of factors on dust storm occurrence have been analyzed in detail, based on spring daily data sets of 17 meteorological factors and dust storm records during the period of 1954-2005 for 60 gauge stations distributed over Gansu Province of China. Results show that daily mean and maximum wind speeds and evaporation have a positive effect on dust storm occurrence,i.e.,their increase can result in an increase of dust storm occurrence.Inversely, daily mean andminimum relative humidity, lowest surface air pressure, vapor pressure and number of sunny hours have a negative effect on dust storm occurrence. However, daily mean and highest surface air pressure;mean, highest and lowest surface air temperature;and precipitation of 20:00-08:00,08:00-20:00 and 20:00-20:00 have a positive effect on dust storm occurrence in some places but negative in other places. On average, daily maximum and mean wind speeds, direction of the maximum wind, number of sunny hours and evaporation have a significant effect on dust storm occurrence in Gansu Province, but precipitation of 20:00-08:00,08:00-20:00 and 20:00-20:00,and mean surface air pressure and temperature all have aminor influence upon dust storm occurrence. 展开更多

This work presents a novel approach to the dynamic response analysis of a Euler-Bernoulli beam resting on a Winkler soil model and subjected to an impact loading. The approach considers that damping has much less importance in controlling the maximum response to impulsive loadings because the maximum response is reached in a very short time, before the damping forces can dissipate a significant portion of the energy input into the system. The development of two sine series solutions, relating to different types of impulsive loadings, one involving a single concentrated force and the other a distributed line load, are presented. This study revealed that when a simply supported Euler-Bernoulli beam, resting on a Winkler soil model,is subject to an impact load, the resulting vertical displacements, bending moments and shear forces produced along the span of the beam are considerably affected. In particular, the quantification of this effect is best observed, relative to the corresponding static solution, via an amplification factor. The computed impact amplification factors, for the sub-grade moduli used in this study, were in magnitude greater than 2,thus confirming the multiple-degree-of-freedom nature of the problem. 展开更多

A novel approach for analyzing coupled vibrations between vehicles and bridges is presented, taking into account spatiotemporal effects and mechanical phenomena resulting fromvehicle braking.Efficient modeling and solution of bridge vibrations induced by vehicle deceleration are realized using this method. The method’s validity and reliability are substantiated through numerical examples.A simply supported beam bridge with a corrugated steel web is taken as an example and the effects of parameters such as the initial vehicle speed, braking acceleration, braking location, and road surface roughness on the mid-span displacement and impact factor of the bridge are analyzed. The results show that vehicle braking significantly amplifies mid-span displacement and impact factor responses in comparison to uniform vehicular motion across the bridge.Notably, the influence of wheelto-bridge friction forces is of particular significance and cannot be overlooked. When the vehicle initiates braking near the middle of the span, both the mid-span displacement and impact factor of the bridge exhibit substantial increases, further escalating with higher braking acceleration.Under favorable road surface conditions, the midspan displacement and the impact factor during vehicle braking may exceed the design values stipulated by codes. It is important to note that road surface roughness exerts a more pronounced effect on the impact factor of the bridge in comparison to the effects of vehicle braking. 展开更多

The methodological basis and procedures for determination of Chinese normalization references and weighting factors according to the EDIP\|method is described. According to Chinese industrial development intensity and population density, China was divided into three regions and the normalization references for each region were calculated on the basis of an inventory of all of the region’s environmental emissions in 1990. The normalization reference was determined as the total environmental impact potential for the area in question in 1990 (EP(j) 90 ) divided by the population. The weighting factor was determined as the normalization reference (ER(j) 90 ) divided by society’s target contribution in the year 2000 based on Chinese political reduction plans, ER(j) T2000 . This paper presents and discuss results obtained for eight different environmental impact categories relevant for China: global warming, stratospheric ozone depletion, acidification, nutrient enrichment, photochemical ozone formation and generation of bulk waste, hazardous waste and slag and ashes. 展开更多

Herbaceous plants are widely distributed on islands and where they exhibit spatial heterogeneity.Accurately identifying the impact factors that drive spatial heterogeneity can reveal typical island biodiversity patterns.Five southern islands in the Miaodao Archipelago,North China were studied herein. The spatial distribution of herbaceous plant diversity on these islands was analyzed, and the impact factors and their degree of impact on spatial heterogeneity were identified using CCA ordination and ANOVA.The results reveal 114 herbaceous plant species, belonging to 94 genera from 34 families in the50 plots sampled. The total species numbers on different islands were significantly positively correlated with island area, and the average a diversity was correlated with human activities, while the(3 diversity among islands was more affected by island area than mutual distances.Spatial heterogeneity within islands indicated that the diversities were generally high in areas with higher altitude, slope, total nitrogen, total carbon, and canopy density, and lower moisture content,pH,total phosphorus, total potassium, and aspect.Among the environmental factors,pH,canopy density, total K,total P,moisture content, altitude, and slope had significant gross effects, but only canopy density exhibited a significant net effect.Terrain affected diversity by restricting plantation, plantation in turn influenced soil properties and the two together affected diversity. Therefore, plantation was ultimately the fundamental driving factor for spatial heterogeneity in herbaceous plant diversity on the five islands. 展开更多

In recent years, the haze occurs frequently and air pollution is getting worse in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, China. The particulate matter pollution characteristic researches are playing a sig-nificant role especially in the districts where have higher concentration PM and air pollution. In this study, we collected daily particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5) mass concentration data from 7 air pollution monitoring stations in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei, China over a 3-month period from June to August to investigate particulate matter pollution characteristic and the relationship with me-teorological conditions. Statistical results show that PM10 is the major pollutant in Shijiazhuang City;the average daily concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 are 94.45 μg/m3 and 219.15 μg/m3, respectively. The daily average of PM10 and PM2.5 level over the period exceeded the first grade of the daily average limit of the ambient air quality standards (GB3095-2012). And there is a significantly positive correlation between atmospheric pressure and particulate matter pollution, but there is a significantly negative correlation between atmospheric temperature and PM concentrations. Precipitation has a clear role mainly in the coarse particles;however, there has little effect on fine particulate matter. Relative humidity and wind speed have a poor correlation with atmospheric pollutant concentrations (not remarkably high). 展开更多

This article developed a decomposition model of energy productivity on the basis of the economic growth model. Four factors were considered which may influence China’s energy productivity according to this model: technology improvement, resource allocation structure, industrial structure and institute arrangement. Then, an econometric model was employed to test the four factors empirically on the basis of China’s statistical data from 1978 to 2004. Results indicated that capital deepening con- tributes the most (207%) to energy efficiency improvement, and impact from labor forces (13%) is the weakest one in resource factor; industrial structure (7%) and institute innovation (9.5%) positively improve the energy productivity. 展开更多

The sown area of winter wheat in the Huang-Huai-Hai(HHH) Plain accounts for over 65% of the total sown area of winter wheat in China. Thus, it is important to monitor the winter wheat growth condition and reveal the main factors that influence its dynamics. This study assessed the winter wheat growth condition based on remote sensing data, and investigated the correlations between different grades of winter wheat growth and major meteorological factors corresponding. First, winter wheat growth condition from sowing until maturity stage during 2011–2012 were assessed based on moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer(MODIS) normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI) time-series dataset. Next, correlation analysis and geographical information system(GIS) spatial analysis methods were used to analyze the lag correlations between different grades of winter wheat growth in each phenophase and the meteorological factors that corresponded to the phenophases. The results showed that the winter wheat growth conditions varied over time and space in the study area. Irrespective of the grades of winter wheat growth, the correlation coefficients between the winter wheat growth condition and the cumulative precipitation were higher than zero lag(synchronous precipitation) and one lag(pre-phenophase precipitation) based on the average values of seven phenophases. This showed that the cumulative precipitation during the entire growing season had a greater effect on winter wheat growth than the synchronous precipitation and the pre-phenophase precipitation. The effects of temperature on winter wheat growth varied according to different grades of winter wheat growth based on the average values of seven phenophases. Winter wheat with a better-than-average growth condition had a stronger correlation with synchronous temperature, winter wheat with a normal growth condition had a stronger correlation with the cumulative temperature, and winter wheat with a worse-than-average growth condition had a stronger correlation with the pre-phenophase temperature. This study may facilitate a better understanding of the quantitative correlations between different grades of crop growth and meteorological factors, and the adjustment of field management measures to ensure a high crop yield. 展开更多

Based on monitoring data of air quality and corresponding meteorological observation data in Zhumadian City during 2013-2015,temporalspatial distribution characteristics and influence factors of air pollution were analyzed. The results showed that >Grade II of pollution occupied a certain proportion in Zhumadian City throughout the year, and annual pollution probabilities at three stations were 11%,11% and 6%; serious pollution occurred for six times at three stations, and they all occurred in autumn and winter; pollution probabilities at three stations in autumn and winter were 18%,17% and 12%,and pollution situation in autumn and winter was more serious than that in spring and summer, and seasonal sequence of pollution frequency from low to high was spring, summer, autumn and winter. Seen from three monitoring stations, there was little difference between new and old industrial zones. Since Branch II of China Meheco Topfond Pharma Co.,Ltd. which represented largescale pollution source took pollution prevention measures, pollution was relatively light, but serious pollution was easy to appear. Seen from temporal change of pollutant concentration, monthly distribution characteristics of three kinds of air pollutants( SO_2,NO_2 and PM_(10)) showed typical one-peak-one valley pattern, and peak occurred during December-January,while valley was during July-August. Due to straw burning, monthly change curve of PM_(10) concentration had two peaks in June and October. Dekad change characteristics of three kinds of air pollutants also showed one-peak-one-valley pattern, and peak occurred from middle dekad of December to middle dekad of January, while valley was from early dekad of July to last dekad of August. The concentration correlation among three kinds of pollutants was the most significant at station 3.Additionally,concentration correlation was significant in autumn and winter, but was relatively weaker in spring and summer. The correlation between pollutant concentration and meteorological factors in the same period was the most significant in autumn, followed by winter. Negative correlation between horizontal visibility and pollutant concentration was extremely significant in winter. There was positive correlation between air pressure and pollutant concentration in summer and autumn, while the correlation was unobvious in winter and spring. There was negative correlation between air temperature and pollutant concentration, which was the most significant in autumn. Negative correlation between relative humidity and pollutant concentration was significant in summer and autumn. Total cloud cover showed significantly positive correlation with pollutant concentration in winter, but the correlation was unobvious in other seasons. Average wind velocity and NO_2 concentration maintained significantly negative correlation in whole year, and there was significantly negative correlation between average wind velocity and concentrations of other two kinds pollutants in winter, but the correlation was worse in other seasons. 展开更多

In order to investigate the effect of meteorological factors on the yield and quality of special rice during the filling stage, an experiment was conducted with 10 special rice varieties which were planted in three different regions during spring 2017. The results showed that the quality traits and yields from different regions of the same variety were different, which reached up to a significant level in most varieties. Among the quality traits, the grain chalkiness rate and chalkiness degree were the most sensitive to different climatic factors, and changes were found among them in different regions, while minor variation was found between brown rice rate and white rice rate. The parameters that were severely affected by temperature were gel consistency, gelatinization temperature, brown rice rate and yield during the filling stage. The critically affected factors by heat were brown rice rate, protein content, essential amino acid and amylose content while brown rice rate, chalkiness rate and gelatinization temperature were substantially affected by water factors. Grain yield and quality were closely related to meteorological factors on different stages after heading. Our results revealed that yield and quality of special rice were significantly influenced by meteorological factors during the grain filling stage. 展开更多

In order to assess the capacity of Aquabacterium parvum sp. strain B6 for nitrate-dependent Fe(Ⅱ) oxidation, batch cultivation was conducted, and its ability to oxidize Fe(Ⅱ) coupled to nitrate reduction in the presence of diverse organic substrates was studied. Meanwhile, the nitrate-removal rate of B6 with various impact factors was further optimized by the response surface methodology(RSM). The results show that strain B6 is capable of utilizing different organic compounds as substrates for nitrate reduction. Compared with yeast extract, B6 showed a greater potential of chemical oxygen demand(COD)degradation and cell proliferation with acetate and glucose mediums, respectively, while citrate was not beneficial for this process due to its low consumption rate. RSM analysis demonstrated that the maximum nitrate-reduction rate of 30.64% could be achieved with an initial pH of 7.4,incubation temperature of 25.0 °C, and carbon source concentration of 266.10 mg/L. 展开更多
