We analyze the 3D deformations of a multilayered, linear elastic, anisotropic rectangular plate subjected to arbitrary boundary conditions on one edge and simply supported on other edge. The rectangular laminate consists of anisotropic and homogeneous laminae of arbitrary thicknesses. This study presents the elastic analysis of laminated composite plates subjected to sinusoidal mechanical loading under arbitrary boundary conditions. Least square finite element solutions for displacements and stresses are investigated using a mathematical model, called a state-space model, which allows us to simultaneously solve for these field variables in the composite structure’s domain and ensure that continuity conditions are satisfied at layer interfaces. The governing equations are derived from this model using a numerical technique called the least-squares finite element method (LSFEM). These LSFEMs seek to minimize the squares of the governing equations and the associated side conditions residuals over the computational domain. The model is comprised of layerwise variables such as displacements, out-of-plane stresses, and in- plane strains, treated as independent variables. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the response of the laminated composite plates under various arbitrary boundary conditions using LSFEM and compared with the 3D elasticity solution available in the literature.展开更多

Based on the rock and fluid properties of the Huangcaoxia gas field, a multilayered model was built. The upper layer Jia-2 contains a high concentration of H_(2)S (27.2 g/m^(3)), and the lower layer Jia-1 contains a low concentration of H_(2)S (14.0 mg/m^(3)). There is also a low-permeability interlayer between Jia-1 and Jia-2. The multi-component fluid characterizations for Jia-1 and Jia-2 were implemented separately using the Peng-Robinson equation of state in order to perform the compositional simulation. The H_(2)S concentration gradually increased in a single cycle and peaked at the end of the production season. The peak H_(2)S concentration in each cycle showed a decreasing trend when the recovery factor (RF) of the gas field was lower than 70%. When the RF was above 70%, the peak H_(2)S concentration increased first and then decreased. A higher reservoir RF, a higher maximum working pressure, and a higher working gas ratio will lead to a higher H_(2)S removal efficiency. Similar to developing multi-layered petroleum fields, the operation of multilayered gas storage can also be divided into multi-layer commingled operation and independent operation for different layers. When the two layers are combined to build the storage, the sweet gas produced from Jia-1 can spontaneously mix with the sour gas produced from Jia-2 within the wellbore, which can significantly reduce the overall H_(2)S concentration in the wellstream. When the working gas volume is set constant, the allocation ratio between the two layers has little effect on the H_(2)S removal. After nine cycles, the produced gas’s H_(2)S concentration can be lowered to 20 mg/m^(3). Our study recommends combining the Jia-2 and Jia-1 layers to build the Huangcaoxia underground gas storage. This plan can quickly reduce the H_(2)S concentration of the produced gas to 20 mg/m^(3), thus meeting the gas export standards as well as the HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) requirements in the field. This study helps the engineers understand the H_(2)S removal for sulfur-containing UGS as well as provides technical guidelines for converting other multilayered sour gas fields into underground storage sites.展开更多

Attenuation is introduced to a three-layered composite plate by an adhesive bond layer with viscous behavior. No changes are required to the transfer matrix formulation for the propagation of elastic waves. By introduction of a complex wavenumber, the model can be used to the propagation of attenuative Lamb waves. Numerical examples for a three-layered aluminium-epoxy-aluminium plate show that attenuation values of each mode in plates are related not only to attenuation, but also to the thickness of the bonded layer, which is in agreement with practical situations.展开更多

The original Stefan equation was derived for only a homogeneous medium, and some algorithms have been developed for its use in a multilayered system. However, although the Stefan equation was derived more than 100 years ago, there is not a unified understanding for its use in a multilayered system. This paper examines the use of the Stefan equation in multilayered soil, based on comparing three algorithms(JL-algorithm, NM-algorithm, and XG-algorithm). We conclude that the JL and NM algorithms are incorrect, as they arose from flawed mathematical derivations. Both of these algorithms failed to recognize that the thawing depth in a multilayered soil is a piecewise function and not a continuous function of time. This work asserts that the XG-algorithm is a correct and rigorous method to determine the freezing–thawing fronts in multilayered soil.展开更多

The reflected and transmitted beam fields of an LG beam are derived. In the case where the principal coordinates of the uniaxial anisotropic media coincide with the global coordinates, the reflected and transmitted beam intensities from a uniaxial anisotropic slab and three-layered media are numerically simulated. It is shown that the reflected intensity components of the incident beam, especially the TM polarized incident beam, are smaller than the transmitted intensity components. The distortion of the reflected intensity component is more evident than that of the transmitted intensity component. The distortion of intensity distribution is greatly affected by the dielectric tensor and the thickness of anisotropic media. We finally extend the application of the method to general anisotropic multilayered media.展开更多

The hybrid matrix method preserves the numerical stability and accuracy across large and small thicknesses. For discussion and comparison, the scattering matrix method is also presented in physics-based form and coherent form. The latter form resembles closely that of hybrid matrix method and helps to highlight their relationship and distinction. For both scattering and hybrid matrix methods, their formulations in terms of eigenwaves solution are provided concisely. Making use of the hybrid matrix, the recursive asymptotic method without eigenwaves solution is described and discussed. The method bypasses the intricacies of eigenvalue-eigenvector approach and requires only elementary matrix operations along with thin- layer asymptotic approximation. It can be used to determine Green’s function matrix readily and facilitates the trade-off between computation efficiency and accuracy.展开更多

The problem is solved for an arbitrary number of layers. The layers are coaxial, and the conditions of an ideal mechanical contact are fulfilled between them. A circular crack is situated parallel to the cylinder's faces in the internal layer with branches free from stress. The upper face of the cylinder is also free from stress. Concretization of the problem is done on examples of two-and three-layered cylinders. An analysis of cylinders' stress state is conducted and the stress intensity factor is evaluated depending on the crack's geometry, its location and ratio of the shear modulus. Advantages of the proposed method include reduction of the solution constants' number regardless of the number of layers, and presentation of the mechanical characteristics in a form of uniformly convergent series.展开更多

The point singularity can include a point charge or a point electric dipole. The original boundary value problem for the N-phase medium is reduced to the determination of a single unknown three-dimensional harmonic function through satisfaction of the continuity conditions across all of the N-1 perfect planar interfaces. The single harmonic function can be completely determined after analytically solving the resulting linear recurrence relations, which are independent of the type and the specific location of the singularity. When the singularity is a point charge, we obtain the self-energy of the point charge expressed in terms of a single function and the Coulomb force on the point charge expressed in terms of the negative derivative of this function.展开更多

The results showed that with decreasing the Si layer thickness, the hyperfine field of samples increased and the thickness of interface dead layers arisen from the atomic interdiffusion effect decreased. These are due to the coupling effect between the magnetic layers. When the Si layers are thinner than 0.88 nm, the direction of the magnetization is out of the film plane.展开更多

Numerical examples for several sandwich plates made up of PQC, PE, and QC materials are provided to show the effect of stacking sequence on phonon, phason, and electric fields under mechanical and electrical loads, which is useful in designing new composites for engineering structures.
文摘The analytical layer-elements for a single poroelastic soil layer and the underlying half-space are established using an algebraic manipulation and Hankel transform. According to the boundary conditions and adjacent continuity conditions of general stresses and displacements, a global matrix equation in the transform domain for multilayered saturated soil media is assembled and solved. Solutions in the frequency domain can be further obtained with an inverse Hankel transform. Numerical examples are used to examine accuracy of the present method and demonstrate effects of soil parameters and load conditions on dynamic responses of the multilayered poroelastic saturated soils.
文摘The effect of introducing attenuation on Lamb wave dispersion curves is studied in this paper. Numerical examples for a three-layered aluminium-epoxy-aluminium plate show that attenuation values of each mode in plates are related not only to attenuation, but also to the thickness of the bonded layer, which is in agreement with practical situations.

文摘A three-dimensional(3 D)steady-state solution of fluid saturated anisotropic finite media is presented. The eigenequation method and the pseudo-Stroh formalism are used to obtain the exact solution for homogeneous saturated finite media. The propagator matrix method is introduced to deal with the corresponding multilayered poroelastic media. The poroelastic solutions due to surface or internal point fluid source are obtained. The comparison of the results of the saturated isotropic media in a half space and those obtained by the finite element method is given to illustrate the accuracy of the solution in a finite domain.Numerical solutions of a sandwich poroelastic medium are presented to analyze its hydromechanical behaviors. Two ratios of the horizontal permeability to vertical permeability and different source positions are investigated. The results show that the fluid parameters and source positions have great influence on the hydromechanical behaviors of the layered media.

文摘The Stefan equation provides a useful and widely used method for predicting the depth of thawing and freezing in a soil where little site-specific information is available. This work asserts that the XG-algorithm is a correct and rigorous method to determine the freezing–thawing fronts in multilayered soil.

文摘Based on angular spectrum expansion and 4 × 4 matrix theory, the reflection and transmission characteristics of a Laguerre Gaussian(LG) beam from uniaxial anisotropic multilayered media are studied. We finally extend the application of the method to general anisotropic multilayered media.
文摘This paper presents the recursive asymptotic hybrid matrix method for acoustic waves in multilayered piezoelectric media. It can be used to determine Green’s function matrix readily and facilitates the trade-off between computation efficiency and accuracy.

文摘An axisymmetric tangent stress is applied to a lateral surface of a multilayered elastic finite cylinder with a fixed bottom face. Advantages of the proposed method include reduction of the solution constants' number regardless of the number of layers, and presentation of the mechanical characteristics in a form of uniformly convergent series.

文摘A simple and effective method is proposed to derive the three-dimensional electric potential induced by a point singularity of any type in an N-phase dielectric medium composed of N-2 intermediate dielectric layers of equal thickness encased in two semi-infinite dielectric media. When the singularity is a point charge, we obtain the self-energy of the point charge expressed in terms of a single function and the Coulomb force on the point charge expressed in terms of the negative derivative of this function.

文摘Multilayered FeSi/Si amorphous films with fixed FeSi layer thickness and different Si layer thicknesses have been studied by conversion electron Mossbauer spectroscopy at room temperature. The results showed that with decreasing the Si layer thickness, the hyperfine field of samples increased and the thickness of interface dead layers arisen from the atomic interdiffusion effect decreased. These are due to the coupling effect between the magnetic layers. When the Si layers are thinner than 0.88 nm, the direction of the magnetization is out of the film plane.
文摘Starting with the governing equations in terms of displacements of 3D elastic media, the solutions to displacement components and their first derivatives are obtained by the application of a double Fourier transform and an order reduction method based on the Cayley-Hamilton theorem. Combining the solutions and the constitutive equations which connect the displacements and stresses, the transfer matrix of a single soil layer is acquired. Then, the state space solution to multilayered elastic soils is further obtained by introducing the boundary conditions and continuity conditions between adjacent soil layers. The numerical analysis based on the present theory is carried out, and the vertical displacements of multilayered foundation with a weak and a hard underlying stratums are compared and discussed.
