Perfume commercial,as a form of cultural text and practice,is relatively special in contemporary commercial advertising:The commodity qualities of perfume dictate that perfume advertisements must cater to the sexual fantasies of the audience, and therefore inevitably characterize the mainstream, dominant gender norms. At the same time, perfume commercial,as a unique marketing communication method, also unconsciously influences people’s values through sensory stimulation and emotional rendering. This article explores the connection between perfume and its commercials, sex, and gender, and discusses the generation of meaning in perfume commercials as texts and deconstructs the gender myth implied from the perspectives of representation and myth analysis, ultimately revealing that behind the gender myth of perfume commercials is but a false manifestation of the ideal self-image of the western white bourgeois heterosexuality. 展开更多

Survey results of the total population showed that the majority believed that diabetes treatment should start early (92.6%);87.4% believed that the treatment should start within three months of diagnosis with modern medicines;67.3% of the participants felt that allopathic medicines for diabetes were safe, 69.6% believed that if started these medications continue lifelong, and 40.5% thought they damaged all major organs. Insulin was thought to be safe by 65% of the surveyed population;60.8% believed that if they started insulin, they would need it life-long;51.5% thought that insulin was started at the last stage of diabetes;and 58.6% believed that insulin caused kidney damage. The present paper aims at the exploration of the development of the political “myth of Kosovo” and its viability with respect to EU membership ambitions of Serbia. The battle of Kosovo Polje in 1389, presented as Serbian defeat, transformed itself into the founding political myth of modern Serbian nation in the 19th century and has continued to exist as such until nowadays. The “myth of Kosovo” could shift to the ideological-cultural basis of Serbian identity and religious-cultural practices in the case of successful EU integration efforts of Serbia. However, if Serbian-Kosovar dialogue fails or Serbia loses the perspective of EU membership or some crisis hits the European Union as such,“myth of Kosovo” could be instrumentalized by various Serbian actors in order to achieve their partial political aims. 展开更多

There is a void that this paper would like to contribute to filling. It outlines a theoretical and empirical sociological approach to social myths as a major component of collective imaginaries and a universal sociological mechanism through time and space. The article recalls the major functions performed by myths in every society (modem as well as "primitive"), introduces new concepts, and sets forth an analytical framework designed to account for the emergence, the reproduction, and the decline of myths, as sacralised collective representations. 展开更多

Some thinkers believe that historical accuracy deviates into myths and legends, when the subjects of discussion are powerful figures, be they human beings or gods. Such thinkers question the accuracy of works like the Odyssey, the llliad and the Bible, wondering where history meets mythology and religion. Another set of thinkers doubts if history is about truth at all. Then, a third group of thinkers wonders what light has modern technology and increased speed of travel have shed light on the subject. These are some of the issues we shall seek to examine, while narrating the story of the relocation of a recent immigrant family from the Northeast to the Midwest of the United States of America. When the date for their move finally came, friends had anxieties and mild cautions about the family's decision, wondering if they really understood the geography of the land along with perceived popular notions about the different sections of the big continent turned a country. Then, there was the compensatory dream, casting a different hue on the whole story. As the narrator looked for provisions in a corn field, a large brown snake lounged at her, narrowly missed her, but poured her venomous fluid into a little animal nearby, which died instantaneously. The poor creature had taken the fall for her. A preliminary attempt at dream interpretation suggested trouble ahead, but triumph at the end of the tunnel. 展开更多

Starting with a personal definition of "myth", this paper seeks to substantiate the claim that every myth is essentially etiological, in the sense that myths somehow express a cosmogony or an eschatology, whether particular or universal. In order to do that, this study reassesses Classical and Judeo-Christian mythologies to revisit and contrast the narratives of origin--of the cosmos, of the gods and of men--found in ancient polytheism and in Judeo-Christian monotheism. Taking into consideration how these general and particular cosmogonies convey a specific understanding of the passage of time, this article does not merely recount the cosmogonies, theogonies, and anthropogonies found in the Bible and in the works of authors from Classical Antiquity, but it also incorporates a critical commentary on pieces of art and literature that have reinterpreted such mythical tales in more recent times The result of the research is the disclosure of a sort of universal etiology that may be found in mythology which, as argued, explains the origins of the world, of the gods, and of men so as to satisfy humankind's ambition to unveil the mysteries of the cosmos. Myth thus functions in these cases as a vehicle that makes it possible for man to return the fullness of a primordial age, abandoning the fleeting time that entraps him and entering a time still absolute 展开更多

Tender Is the Night is Fitzgerald’s last long novel which tells a tragic story of a promising psychiatrist’s decadence and failure. In accordance with Northrop Frye’s Myth and Archetypal criticism, several archetypes are applied, mainly concentrated on image, characters and plot.In image,Apollo’s sky is archetypal image of Dick’s Gausses Beach, where Dick could present his self.On contrary,Villa Diana which belonged to Nicole reflected Moon-Goddess Artemis’s forest in Greek myth.In character,Dick’s redemption and self-exile are archetypal dealing with Jesus Christ’s redemption in Bible and Oedipus’exile in Greek myth respectively. In plot,Bible’s serpent’s seduction to tempt Eva to eat forbidden fruits is the myth and archetype of Dick’s marriage and extramarital love and Nicole’s extramarital affair.Through archetypal analyses, the tragic destiny of Americans in their pursuit of dreams can be seen. 展开更多

Peripheral neuropathy constitutes a highly incidental condition and a major public health concern worldwide(Hanewinckel et al.,2016).This pathology is triggered by peripheral nervous system damage as a consequence of systemic disease or ischemic-traumatic lesion. In the latter case, nerve crush, partial or total transection and stretch injury interrupt nerve conduction and impair sensitivity and motility of the innervated area, which brings about partial or total functional loss in the affected limb and disabling neuropathic pain. For these reasons, digging into the molecular mechanisms underlying peripheral neuropathy becomes essential for the development of successful therapeutic strategies. 展开更多
