The blank shapes of three typical stampings are simulated and compared with numerical results given by the AUTOFORM software and experimental results, respectively. The comparison shows that the FASTAMP can predict blank shape and strain distribution of the stamping more precisely and quickly than those given by the traditional methods and the AUTOFORM.展开更多

A non-transferred arc plasma torch is used as a controllable heat source to produce internal stress in sheet metals, causing plastic deformation without the necessity of hard tooling. This method has potential for rapid prototyping of sheet metal parts by reducing development costs and lead times. A robotic system has been used to perform simple linear bends in several different alloys. In order to develop a controllable process and to improve the forming accuracy, the effects of various process parameters on the obtained shape changes and on the resulting structure and properties have been studied. The overall goal is to understand the roles of the forming parameters and their inter-relationship in optimizing the forming procedure-a high forming speed without damage to the material structure or properties.展开更多

The theory, optimization algorithm and technology for sand mold nearnet forming were studied. Experimental results show that the sand mold forming efficiency can be increased by 34%, and the molding sand can be reduced by 44%. The method for near-net forming of a sand mold with digital flexible extrusion technology can effectively promote the application of digital patternless casting technology in the mass production of castings and thus greatly improves the efficiency and automation of sand mold manufacturing.展开更多

Based on theoretical analysis of heat shock phenomenon, two characteristic parameters of die damage caused by heat shock were proposed, which are heat shock plastic deformation index (HSPI) and heat shock crack index (HSCI). The effect of heat shock on die plastic deformation and fracture behaviors was described quantitatively by these two parameters. HSPI represents approaching of heat shock stress to die yield stress. Plastic deformation will happen on a die if this index reaches 1. HSCI represents approaching of heat shock stress to die tensile strength. Die fracture will happen if this index reaches 1. According to theoretical analysis of heat transfer, theoretical models of HSPI and HSCI were established. It is found that, the smaller the interfacial thermal resistance (ITR) is, the higher the pouring temperature and die temperature are before heat shock, and the greater the HSPI and HSCI are, which can be fitted as exponential curves, linear and cubic curves.展开更多

This article sets forth the first stage of a novel study that observes the informal city using the methodology of analysis of architecture called shape grammars. The idea is to recognize peculiarities in the occupation of the land and the volumetric features of the buildings. Rocinha favela, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is taken as a case study with the primary aim of extrapolating a set of rules for its morphological features so that these rules can be used to generate new shapes, whilst bearing in mind the issues of adaptation and transformation which are so characteristic of informal settlements. There is some expectation that this study may help improve the housing and public space in the favela and enable new housing programs to observe the way the buildings and different architectural elements combined, forming a new channel of interchange with the spatial organization of the favela.展开更多

The effects of several important processing parameters on the shape evolution of the tube are investigated. The model is validated against experiments of spray formed large diameter tubes. The experimental and the modeling results show that there are three distinct regions in the preform, i.e., the left transition region, the middle uniform diameter region and the right transition region. The results show that the atomization parameters as and bs, traversing speed v of the substrate, the outer diameter D0 of the substrate, and the initial deposition distance d0 play important roles in the contour and the wall thickness of the spray formed tube. But the angular velocity ω of the substrate has little effect on the buildup of the deposit. After a certain time from the beginning of the process, the deposit will come into a steady growth state. In addition, an equation is provided to estimate the wall thickness of the deposit under the steady growth state based on the mass conservation.展开更多

Based on the outline dimension of the forging stock, the shape of the ingot was designed as the near net shape and its casting process was studied by the numerical simulation and experimental investigation. The results show that the shrinkage of the ingot was highly correlated to its shape parameters and could be successfully forecast by the stimulation model. The casting parameters of the near net shape ingot were optimized and the near net shape 6xxx aluminum alloy ingots free of defects were cast in the laboratory. In order to obtain high performance forged suspension parts, the hot compression tests of the ingot were carried out. The results show that the subgrain fraction of the forged ingot was strongly affected by Zener-Hollomon parameters (Z parameters). The intermediate Z parameters, 1.09×10^16 s^-1, will contribute to the larger number fraction of subgrains inside the forged ingot, which contributes to the high performance of the forged products.展开更多
