Two kinds of doped organic/inorganic hybrid nonlinear optical (NLO) mat... hydroxy-4-nitro azobenzene (NHA) and 4-amino-4-nitro azobenzene (DO3) were prepared respectively from p-nitrophenylamine as a precursor compound. Two kinds of doped organic/inorganic hybrid nonlinear optical (NLO) materials containing NHA and DO3 were synthesized by Sol-Gel process. The preparation and properties of two NLO materials were studied and characterized by FTIR, 1H-NMR, UV-VIS, SEM, DSC and SHG measurements. The results show that the maximum doping amounts of NHA and DO3 in two doped hybrid NLO materials are 7.2(wt)% and 11.3(wt)% respectively, and the corresponding second-order NLO coefficients (d33 values) are 2.91×10 8esu and 6.14×10 8esu. Two doped NLO materials have relatively good RT stability, after 90 days at RT the d33 values can maintain about 85% of their initial values, but after 10h at 100℃ can only maintain about 50% of their initial values. In this report, the reasons for high-temperature instability of doped materials were discussed, and the possible improvements were also suggested. 展开更多

In this paper,the second-order nolinear-optical coefficients of a series of conjugated substituted polyenes have been colculated by the semi-empirical CNDO/S-CI method.we have studied in deiail the influence on the number of substituents,the location of the substituents and the conjugation length in motecules to the NLO coefficient Bvace The results showed that the introduetion of the electroinc donor and acceptor groups and the increase in the distance between the substituents and the conjugated length may lead to enhanced NLO responses.It is also shown that the caiculoted In Bvec is linear with the number of double bonds in planar and linear tians substituted polyenes.A saturation effect in substitution is also presented.Based on these discussion one can provide the theorilical guidelines for designing and synthesizing of molecules with larger NLO coefficients. 展开更多

Metal iodates containing I(Ⅴ)with lone electron pairs in an asymmetric coordination geometry exhibit excellent second-harmonic generation(SHG)responses,wide transmission range and large band gaps.During the past ten years,metal iodates have been widely studied,and introducing large electronegative fluorine atoms into metal iodates has also attracted much attention.These F-containing iodates are different from pure iodates in terms of composition,symmetry and transmittance.Especially because oxide-fluoride heterolepic anion groups can exhibit interesting structure-directing properties,e.g.trans-and cis-directing properties,these F-containing iodates also have better structure designability.Therefore,in this review,we will review the research progress of F-containing iodates and address the effect of structure-directing properties of oxide-fluoride anions on the crystal structures of F-containing iodates.Since the valence of the central cations will greatly affect the distortions and configurations of the oxide-fluoride anion groups,these F-containing iodates will be classified and introduced according to the different valences of the central cations. 展开更多

Using harmonic beam combining to generate pulse-burst in nonlinear optical laser

To generate a more equal amplitud... The ultrashort lasers working in pulse-burst mode reveal great machining performance in recent years. The number of pulses in bursts effects greatly on the removal rate and roughness. To generate a more equal amplitude of pulses in burst with linear polarization output and time gap adjustable, we propose a new method by the harmonic beam combining(HBC).The beam combining is commonly used in adding pulses into the output beam while maintaining the pulse waveform and beam quality. In the HBC, dichroic mirrors are used to combine laser pulses of fundamental wave(FW) into harmonic wave(HW), and nonlinear crystals are used to convert the FW into HW. Therefore, HBC can add arbitrarily more HW pulses to generate pulse-burst in linear polarization with simple structure. The amplitude of each pulse in bursts can be adjusted the same to increase the stability of the burst, the time gap of each pulse can be adjusted precisely by proper time delay. Because HBC adds pulses sequentially, the peak power density of the burst is the same as each pulse, pulses can be combined without concern of back-conversion which often occurs in high peak power density. In the demonstration, the extendibility of HBC was verified by combining two beams with a third beam. The combined efficiency rates were larger than 99%, and the beam quality of each beam was maintained at M^(2)≈1.4. 展开更多

Parity–time(PT) and quasi-anti-parity–time(quasi-APT) symmetric optical gyroscopes have been proposed recently which enhance Sagnac frequency splitting. However, the operation of gyroscopes at the exceptional point(EP) is challenging due to strict fabrication requirements and experimental uncertainties. We propose a new quasi-APT-symmetric micro-optical gyroscope which can be operated at the EP by easily shifting the Kerr nonlinearity. A single resonator is used as the core sensitive component of the quasi-APT-symmetric optical gyroscope to reduce the size, overcome the strict structural requirements and detect small rotation rates. Moreover, the proposed scheme also has an easy readout method for the frequency splitting. As a result, the device achieves a frequency splitting 10~5 times higher than that of a classical resonant optical gyroscope with the Earth's rotation. This proposal paves the way for a new and valuable method for the engineering of micro-optical gyroscopes. 展开更多

Cyclo[18]carbon has received considerable attention thanks to its novel geometric configuration and special electronic structure.Superalkalis have low ionization energy.Doping a superalkali in cyclo[18]carbon is an effective method to improve the optical properties of the system because considerable electron transfer occurs.In this paper,the geometry,bonding properties,electronic structure,absorption spectrum,and nonlinear optical(NLO)properties of superalkaline M_(3)O(M=Li,Na)-doped cyclo[18]carbon were studied by using density functional theory.M_(3)O and the C_(18) rings are not coplanar.The C_(18) ring still exhibits alternating long and short bonds.The charge transfer between M_(3)O and C_(18) forms stable[M_(3)O]+[C_(18)]-ionic complexes.C_(18)M_(3)O(M=Li,Na)shows striking optical nonlinearity,i.e.,their first-and second-order hyperpolarizability(βvec andγ||)increase considerably atλ=1907 nm and 1460 nm. 展开更多

As the core device of all-solid-state laser,infrared(IR)nonlinear optical(NLO)material plays a critical role in exploring new coherent lights by frequency conversion technologies,which are widely used in noninvasive medical diagnostics,spectroscopy,environmental monitoring and long-distance laser communication.To satisfy the growing demand of current laser technology in IR regions,high performance NLO materials with large second-harmonic generation(SHG)response,high laser-induced damage threshold(LIDT)and wide transparency range are highly expected.Recently,numerous efforts and advances have been achieved in sulfide system.This review highlights the progress of high-performance sulfide IR NLO materials with a good balance between strong SHG response(≥1.0×AgGaS_(2))and wide band gap(≥3.0 eV)since 2018.The chemical synthesis,crystal structure,optical properties and structure-property relationship of 13 high performance metal sulfide IR NLO materials are summarized and reviewed in detail.Finally,the potential opportunities and challenges in IR NLO materials are discussed. 展开更多

As the key components of all-solid-state deep-ultraviolet(DUV,λ<200 nm)laser sources,exploring DUV nonlinear optical(NLO)materials has been a research hotspot for a long time.However,as the only material that has been practically used to generate DUV coherent light through the direct second harmonic generation(SHG)process,KBe_(2)BO_(3)F_(2)(KBBF)still meets bottlenecks,namely,severe layered crystal growth tendency,for extensive application.In the search for the next generation of DUV NLO materials,fluorooxoborates are highly expected due to their excellent NLO performances,flexible structures,and rich structural chemistry.So far,a large number of materials with prominent properties have emerged in the fluorooxoborate system.By investigating the differences in structures and properties among fluorooxoborates and borates and borate fluorides,the excellent NLO per-formances of fluorooxoborates are attributed to functionalized B-O/F chromophores.In this review,by analyzing the published fluorooxoborates,the fluorooxoborate system is a precious treasure for exploring DUV NLO ma-terials.The synthesis,structures,and properties of some representative fluorooxoborates in the research history are introduced and summarized.Finally,we put forward the opportunities and challenges of future research in fluorooxoborate DUV NLO crystals. 展开更多

Nonlinear optical(NLO)crystals are key components of solid-state lasers and widely used in civilian and military applications.A wide transmission range,a large second harmonic generation(SHG)effect and a suitable bire-fringence are important factors in determining a nonlinear material with excellent performance.Research on ultraviolet(UV)nonlinear optical materials has concentrated on borates,carbonates,and nitrates containing derivative groups,as well as phosphates and sulfates containing tetrahedral groups,as a result of the anionic group theory's influence.In addition,cations have a significant impact on NLO materials according to recent researches.The introduction of lone electron pair cations Sb(Ⅲ)has been proven to be an effective strategy by our group,which could modulate the crystal structures of NLO materials to regulate their linear and nonlinear optical properties.This paper presents a short review of the reported Sb(Ⅲ)-based UV-NLO materials.Also,it gives an overview of the role played by different synthetic methods in the synthesis process of Sb(Ⅲ)-based UV-NLO materials and how to solve the difficult problems including oxidation and hydrolysis.This work will offer some synthetic concepts for investigating the subsequent class of high-performance UV nonlinear materials. 展开更多

We report a simple solution-processed method for the fabrication of low-cost,flexible optical limiting materials based on graphene oxide(GO) impregnated polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) sheets.Such GO–PVA composite sheets display highly efficient broadband optical limiting activities for femtosecond laser pulses at 400,800,and 1400 nm with very low limiting thresholds.Femtosecond pump–probe measurement results revealed that nonlinear absorption played an important role for the observed optical limiting activities.High flexibility and efficient optical limiting activities of these materials allow these composite sheets to be attached to nonplanar optical sensors in order to protect them from light-induced damage. 展开更多

Two-dimensional(2D)nonlinear optical mediums with high and tunable light modulation capability can significantly stimulate the development of ultrathin,compact,and integrated optoelectronics devices and photonic elements.2D carbides and nitrides of transition metals(MXenes)are a new class of 2D materials with excellent intrinsic and strong light-matter interaction characteristics.However,the current understanding of their photo-physical properties and strategies for improving optical performance is insufficient.To address this issue,we rationally designed and in situ synthesized a 2D Nb_(2)C/MoS_(2) heterostructure that outperforms pristine Nb2C in both linear and nonlinear optical performance.Excellent agreement between experimental and theoretical results demonstrated that the Nb_(2)C/MoS_(2) inherited the preponderance of Nb_(2)C and MoS_(2) in absorption at different wavelengths,resulting in the broadband enhanced optical absorption characteristics.In addition to linear optical modulation,we also achieved stronger near infrared nonlinear optical modulation,with a nonlinear absorption coefficient of Nb_(2)C/MoS_(2) being more than two times that of the pristine Nb_(2)C.These results were supported by the band alinement model which was determined by the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)experiment and first-principal theory calculation.The presented facile synthesis approach and robust light modulation strategy pave the way for broadband optoelectronic devices and optical modulators. 展开更多

In nonlinear optical systems,optical solitons have the transmission properties of reducing error rate,improving system security and stability,and have important research significance in future research on all optical communication.This paper uses the bilinear method to obtain the two-soliton solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation.By analyzing the relevant physical parameters in the obtained solutions,the interaction between optical solitons is optimized.The influence of the initial conditions on the interactions of the optical solitons is analyzed in detail,the reason why the interaction of the optical solitons is sensitive to the initial condition is discussed,and the interactions of the optical solitons are effectively weakened.The relevant results are beneficial for reducing the error rate and promoting the communication quality of the system. 展开更多

We investigate the nonlinear optical rectification(NOR) of spherical quantum dots(QDs) under Hulthén plus Hellmann confining potential with the external tuning elements. Energy and wavefunction are determined by using the Nikiforov–Uvarov method. Expression for the NOR coefficient is derived by the density matrix theory. The results show that the applied external elements and internal parameters of this system have a strong influence on intraband nonlinear optical properties. It is hopeful that this tuning of the nonlinear optical properties of GaAs/Ga_(1-x)Al_(x)As QDs can make a greater contribution to preparation of new functional optical devices. 展开更多
