Lathosterolosis is a very rare autosomal recessive cholesterol metabolism disorder. The disease manifests itself with developmental and mental delays, learning disabilities, microcephaly, facial dysmorphism, bilateral cataracts, and skeletal defects. It is caused by the deficiency of the enzyme sterol-C5-desaturase, which is involved in cholesterol biosynthesis. This deficiency prevents the synthesis of cholesterol, which acts as a precursor for lipid, bile acids, and steroid hormones. Until 2020, only 7 cases had been reported. In this case report, it was aimed to plan and implement the nursing care of a 2-year-old boy diagnosed with lathosterolosis with the diagnoses of the North American Nursing Diagnostic Association (NANDA). 展开更多

Nurses spend more time with patients than any other healthcare team member. This study aimed to assess nurses’ behavior and care experiences in patients with advanced cancer and explore patients’ perceptions of nursing care. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with eight nurses and thirty patients with advanced cancer hospitalized in the oncology unit at Sylvanus Olympio Teaching Hospital of Lomé from July to August 2020. Results: The mean age of nurses was 34.3 years ranging from 23 to 48 years. There were five men (62.5%) and three women (37.5%). The mean duration of working in oncology nursing of all was less than two years. Only one nurse has training in palliative care. Stress (100%), sadness (100%), and fear (50%) were the most frequently expressed feeling of nurses. The frequently expressed difficulties were the lack of training in palliative care (87.5%), insufficiency of nursing staff (75%), and helplessness in front of the patient’s distress (75%). Among the thirty patients, were 22 women (72.7%) and 8 men (27.3%). The needs expressed by the patients were psychological support (n = 11;36.7%), pain relief (n = 10;33.3%), and moral support (n = 9;30%). Most of the patients (73.3%) affirmed that nurses did not inform them well about their disease. Three (10%) were very satisfied with the care provided, 23 patients (76.7%) were satisfied and 4 (13.3%) were unsatisfied. Conclusion: This study revealed that nursing care in Togolese patients with cancer faces many difficulties and there is a need for providing specialized oncology nursing. 展开更多

This study investigated the vibration frequency in micro-vibration therapy (MVT) performed as a part of nursing care in Japan. We surveyed 31 nurses (25 women and 6 men) who performed MVT with accelerometers attached to the backs of their hands, and the data obtained were analyzed. The mean vibration frequency was 8.3 Hz (standard deviation [SD]: 1.9 Hz) bilaterally, with a left-right difference of 0.8 Hz (SD: 1.1 Hz, right > left). Furthermore, vibration frequency was correlated with duration of MVT use (rs = 0.5, P < 0.01). The vibration frequency was higher in men (9.2 Hz, SD: 2.4 Hz) than in women (8.1 Hz, SD: 1.8 Hz), but this difference was not significant (P = 0.34). The vibrations of MVT are of a lower frequency than those of other vibration therapies. 展开更多

Background: Nursing practice has to contribute to evidence pointing out why there is a need for more nurse-designed randomized control trials (RCTs) focusing on evidence-based practice (EBP). How far this EBP has progressed in different health aspects is usually established by systematic reviews of RCTs. Nurse-led RCTs exist but no study has addressed the essentials of nursing care. Aim: The aim was therefore to determine the essentials of nurses’ interventions by means of nurse-led RCTs in somatic care focusing on the stated context, goals, content, strategies as well as the nurse’s role related to effectiveness. Methods: A systematic review was realized according to Cochrane review assumptions to identify, appraise and synthesize all empirical evidence meeting pre-specified eligibility criteria. The PRISMA statement guided the data extraction process (n = 55) from PubMed and CINAHL. Results: Of the RCTs in somatic care, 71% showed a positive effectiveness of nurse-led interventions, of which the nurse had a significant role with regard to being the main responsible in 67% of the studies. Also, 47% of the RCTs presented a theoretical standpoint related to the nurse-led interventions and most prominent were international evidence-based guidelines. Goals were found to have either a patient-centered or a professional-centered ambition. Strategies were based on patient-directed initiatives, nurse-patient-directed initiatives or nurse-directed initiatives, while contents were built upon either a patient-nurse interaction or a nursing management plan. Conclusions: This review underlines the necessity of a holistic view of a person, as nurse-led RCTs comprising a patient-centered ambition, patient-directed initiative and patient-nurse interaction plan showed beneficial nursing care effectiveness, particularly if theory-based. In a nurse-led RCT, a basic theoretical perspective is advantageous as well as to elucidate the role of the nurse in relation to the estimated effects. 展开更多

Objective:To standardize the classification, reporting and analysis of medication errors in nursing in order to improve patient safety management by achieving real-time monitoring and systemic analysis. Methods:A system of classifying nurse-related adverse drug effects into four category grades was developed based on the framework provided by the International Classification of Patient Safety.Three investigators used the system to classify 1343 nursing-related drug adverse events reported between January 2006 and December 2010 at 15 tertiary medical institutions in Shanghai. Results:The classification standard incorporated all relevant information provided in the reporting system and revealed that the greatest frequency of drug adverse events resulted from staff-related factors. In particular, the largest number of events resulted from routine violations, followed by technology type errors of negligence and fault. Conclusion:Application of this classification system will help nursing administrators to accurately detect system-and process-related defects leading to medication errors, and enable the factors to be targeted to improve the level of patient safety management. 展开更多

Minimally invasive surgeries, including laparoscopic, endoscopic, and robotic surgeries, have gained great popularity and have gradually replaced conventional open surgeries.Commonly, patients may have perioperative psychological issues such as anxiety, depression, sleep disturbance, and delirium.A comprehensive literature review was conducted to identify how these psychological issues occur in minimally invasive surgeries and how nurses can take better care of patients to alleviate these issues.Only papers focusing on psychological issues during the perioperative period were included in the re-view,and preexisting issues before the setting of surgical treatment plan were not discussed.Compared to conventional surgeries, the incidence of postoperative anxiety, preoperative depression, and sleep disturbance is lower in minimally invasive surgeries, the incidence of postoperative depression may be higher with limited evidence, and the incidence of preoperative anxiety and delirium is inconclusive.Systematic perioperative nursing programs not only alleviate psychological issues, but also reduce postsurgical complications and accelerate recovery. However, special nursing programs to handle delirium are lacking. 展开更多

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a broad term that includes a whole range of diseases that affect the heart and blood vessels. Cardiovascular diseases (and not only) or as they are known by the abbreviation (SKV), are as numerous as they are complex, attacking the heart and blood vessels, causing many deaths globally, not to mention, are among the main causes. Arteriosclerosis is diagnosed, mainly on the basis of family and medical history, in which case a physical examination and specific tests are performed, which include: blood tests, Doppler ultrasound, electrocardiogram, chest X-ray, echocardiography, angiography and stress test, etc. The study was conducted at the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (UCCK). The paper is based on data obtained from the research protocol of patients of this clinic, in the period 2016-2018. This study included 100 patients with heart disease and their treatment, with special emphasis on coronary artery bypass grafting. Our goal was to emphasize the care, as well as the quality of life of patients, after coronary artery bypass surgery. This process has always been supervised by the head nurse of the clinic, in order to fully preserve the privacy of the patients included in this research. From the results of this research, we found that males dominate in the number of patients included in the study, age over 50 dominates, and we also found that most patients have relatives who suffer from heart disease. We also see that 18% of patients continue to smoke after surgery, while 70% of them stated that their health after surgery is much better than last year, and 84% of them stated that they use therapy after surgery. Data from another study were performed by the hospital CHF, Self-Care (Self-Care of Heart Failure Index). The results are based on 280 patients, 123 of whom were male and 157 female, their marital status showing that 203 of them were married and that the average age of the patients ranged from 67.2 to 13.4 years. In this study, 147 stated that they had relatives or parents with heart disease, and 133 of them did not. Here we have a difference between the two studies because 79 (29.8%) patients are smokers out of 280 patients interviewed, so here we have a smaller number of smokers than in our country. While researching elsewhere, most of them emphasized that they value health much more after surgery. With regard to drugs, it was concluded that this example shows that patients who did not have a partner who reminded them to take drugs were less compatible with drugs, compared to those who had a partner or friend. Therefore, in conclusion, we find that the use of drugs after surgery helps to improve the health of patients. 展开更多

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Micro Vibrational therapy (MVT) on muscle stiffness and blood flow in the skin before and after Micro Vibrational therapy in healthy subjects in order to scientifically verify the effects of MVT. Methods: Micro Vibrational therapy is nurse care use in Japan. It was performed on the backs of 30 subjects (8 males and 22 females) in their 20 s to 50 s according to the eligibility criteria. The resting state before implementation was set as the baseline for the control group, and after 30 seconds of MVT was set as the intervention group. The effects of the MVT were statistically analyzed by these factors and subjective sensation by Visual Analog Scale. Results: The muscle hardness of the area where the MVT was applied for 30 seconds decreased to 29.54 (SD 5.04) after the application, compared to 30.45 (SD 5.05) before. A corresponding t-test showed a significant difference (p = 0.019). Skin blood flow increased from a median of 0.76 (variance 0.062) before to a median of 0.86 (variance 0.16) after the procedure. The Wilcoxon rank test showed a significant difference (p = 0.000). Circulatory response was confirmed by SBP, DBP, and HR. SBP of 108.6 mmHg (SD 14.8) before the study decreased to 105.7 mmHg (SD 15.0) after the study, and DBP of 65.6 mmHg (SD 11.1) before the study decreased to 62.7 mmHg (SD 11.8) after the study. HR decreased from 71.6 beats per minute (SD 10.3) before to 69.2 beats per minute (SD 11.7) after. There was a significant difference in all cardiovascular indices (p < 0.05). VAS (pain, stiffness, and fatigue) was significantly decreased after MVT (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Micro Vibrational therapy tended to decrease muscle hardness and increase skin blood flow even in the short time of 30 seconds. The results suggest that local vibration stimulation is not likely to cause a sudden increase in blood pressure or pulse rate fluctuation. These results suggest that hand vibration nursing care may be applicable to acute patients with unstable circulatory conditions. 展开更多

This study aimed to clarify the changes in nurses’ cognition about the rate and likelihood of implementation of daily ethical nursing items used in pediatric care before and after attending online workshops using the Pediatric Nursing Care Model (PNCM). A 1.5-hour online workshop was held twice over two weeks. A total of nine nurses participated in the program. These online workshops using PNCM helped achieve the original goals and the results revealed a positive outcome of the workshops. We should devise an educational program to arouse participants’ interest and comprehension to make the most of online competency. 展开更多

Objective:To explore the clinical application value of humanistic nursing care in the treatment of hematologic neoplasm inpatients.Methods:Fifty-two patients with hematologic neoplasms admitted to a hospital from May 2019 to February 2022 were selected as the research subjects.According to a random number table, they were divided into two groups:the control group(n=25,routine clinical nursing)and the observation group(n=27,humanistic nursing care). The negative emotion score, nursing satisfaction, and sleep quality were compared between the two groups under different nursing modes. Results:The SAS and SDS scores before and after nursing were compared between the two groups. There was no significant difference between the two groups before nursing(p>0.05).However,the SDS and SAS scores in the two groups after nursing were lower than those before nursing,in which the observation group was slightly lower than the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(p<0.001).In terms of nursing satisfaction,it was as high as 96.29%in the observation group, whereas in the control group, the satisfaction rate was only 72.00%;the PSQI scores were compared between the two groups before and after nursing, and there was no significant difference between the two groups before nursing(p>0.05).However,the PSQI scores and total score of the observation group after nursing were lower than those of the control group(p<0.001).Conclusion:In the clinical treatment of patients with hematologic neoplasms, the implementation of humanistic nursing care can significantly improve patients’anxiety, depression, other negative emotions, sleep quality, and nursing satisfaction, all of which have significance in promoting the prognosis of patients and improving their quality of life. 展开更多
