Comprehensive analysis of pure-quartic soliton dynamics in a passively mode-locked fiber laser

Herein, we numerically study the in... The understanding of soliton dynamics promotes the development of ultrafast laser technology. High-energy purequartic solitons(PQSs) have gradually become a hotspot in recent years. Herein, we numerically study the influence of the gain bandwidth, saturation power, small-signal gain, and output coupler on PQS dynamics in passively mode-locked fiber lasers. The results show that the above four parameters can affect PQS dynamics. Pulsating PQSs occur as we alter the other three parameters when the gain bandwidth is 50 nm. Meanwhile, PQSs evolve from pulsating to erupting and then to splitting as the other three parameters are altered when the gain bandwidth is 10 nm, which can be attributed to the existence of the spectral filtering effect and intra-cavity fourth-order dispersion. These findings provide new insights into PQS dynamics in passively mode-locked fiber lasers. 展开更多

We report a high repetition frequency, high power stability and low laser noise laser-diode(LD) end-pumped Nd: YAG ceramic passively Q-switched laser at 1123 nm based on a Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)-polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) film as a saturable absorber(SA). A Brewster polarizer(BP) and a birefringent crystal(BC) are incorporated to enable frequency selection and filtering for the passively Q-switched 1123 nm pulsed laser to improve the power stability and reduce the noise. When the pump power is 5.1 W, an average output power of 457.9 m W is obtained, corresponding to a repetition frequency of 1.09 MHz,a pulse width of 56 ns, a spectral line width of 0.65 nm, a power instability of ±0.92%, and a laser noise of 0.89%.The successful implementation of the “Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)-PVA film passively Q-switching” combined with “frequency selection and filtering of BP + BC” technology path provides a valuable reference for developing pulsed laser with high repetition frequency, high stability and low noise. 展开更多

A black phosphorus(BP) saturable absorber(SA) solution with different concentrations(1.0 and 0.5 mg/ml) is fabricated with the liquid-phase exfoliation method. By using the BP-SA, a compact diode-pumped passively Q-switched Nd:YVO_4 laser is demonstrated. One reflecting Bragg gratings is used as the output coupler for mode selection. By inserting those BP-SA solutions in the laser cavity, the maximum single longitude mode,Q-switched output powers of 126 mW at 692.5 kHz and 149 mW at 630.3 kHz are achieved at the pump power of 8.0 W, corresponding to the pulse durations of 144 ns and 196 ns, respectively. Moreover, longitudinal-mode characteristics of Q-switched output laser in different optical cavity lengths based on two-kind BP-SA solution concentrations are investigated. Our results show that BP-SA could also be developed as an effective SA for the Q-switched, single longitudinal mode pulse laser. 展开更多

A single-photon interferometer is a fundamental element in quantum information science.In most previously reported works,single-photon interferometers use an active feedback locking system to stabilize the relative phase between two arms of the interferometer.Here,we use a pair of beam displacers to construct a passively stable single-photon interferometer.The relative phase stabilization between the two arms is achieved by stabilizing the temperature of the beam displacers.A purely polarized single-photon-level pulse is directed into the interferometer input port.By analyzing and measuring the polarization states of the single-photon pulse at the output port,the achieved polarization fidelity of the interferometer is about 99.1±0.1%.Our passively stabilized single-photon interferometer provides a key element for generating highfidelity entanglement between a photon and atomic memory. 展开更多

Passively Q-Switched Ho:SSO Laser by Use of a Cr2+:ZnSe Saturable Absorber

A cw operation and a passively Q-switched(PQS) Ho:SSO laser(Cr^(2+):ZnSe as a saturable absorber) end-pumped by a Tm:YAP laser operating at near room temperature are reported. It is the first time to report a PQS Ho:SSO laser. For the cw mode, a maximum cw output power of 3.0 W is obtained, corresponding to a slope effciency of31.4%. For the PQS mode, a Cr^(2+):ZnSe is used as the saturable absorber, with transmission of 88.4% at 2112 nm.A maximum pulse energy of 1.29 mJ is obtained, corresponding to the pulse repetition frequency of 2.42 kHz. In this study, we change the distance between:Cr^(2+):ZnSe and the output mirror to research the pulse characteristic of the PQS Ho:SSO laser. The minimum pulse width of 73.5 ns is obtained, corresponding to the pulse energy of0.9 mJ and the pulse repetition frequency of 2.65 kHz. 展开更多

A two-dimensional silver nanoplate is prepared with the seed-mediated growth method and is used for achieving pulse fiber laser operation. By controlling the dimension parameters of the silver nanoplate, the surface plasmon resonance absorption peak of the material is successfully adjusted to 1068 nm. Based on the silver nanoplate as a saturable absorber, a passively Q-switched Yb-doped fiber laser operating at 1062 nm is demonstrated. The maximum average output power of 3.49 mW is obtained with a minimum pulse width of 1.84 ps at a pulse repetition rate of 65.7 kHz, and the corresponding pulse energy and peak power are 53.1 nJ and 28.8 mW, respectively. 展开更多

We demonstrate a passively harmonic mode-locked(PHML) fiber laser operating at the L-band using carbon nanotubes polyvinyl alcohol(CNTs-PVA) film. Under suitable pump power and an appropriate setting of the polarization controller(PC), the 54^(th) harmonic pulses at the L-band are generated with the side mode suppression ratio(SMSR) better than 44 dB and a repetition frequency of 503.37 MHz. Further increasing the pump power leads to a higher frequency of 550 MHz with compromised stability of 38.5 dB SMSR. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration on the generation of L-band PHML pulses from an Er-doped fiber laser based on CNTs. 展开更多

We report on generation of a dual-wavelength, all-fiber, passively Q-switched ytterbium-doped fiber laser using aluminum oxide nanoparticle(Al_2 O_3-NP) thin flm. A thin film of Al_2 O_3 was prepared by embedding Al_2 O_3-NPs into a polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) as a host polymer, and then inserted between two fiber ferrules to act as a saturable absorber(SA).By incorporating the Al_2 O_3-PVA SA into the laser cavity,a stable dual-wavelength pulse output centered at 1050 and 1060.7 nm is observed at threshold pump power of 80 mW. As the pump power is gradually increased from 80 to 300 mW, the repetition rate of the generated pulse increases from 16.23 to 59 kHz, while the pulse width decreases from 19 to 6μs. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first demonstration for this type of SA operating in the 1 μm region. 展开更多

We explored Q-switching mechanism for the newly proposed Tm/Ho composite laser via developing a hybrid resonator for separating the intra-cavity Tm laser modulated by the saturable absorber(SA).With a Cr:ZnSe SA,successful passively Q-switching process with the maximum average output power of 474 mW and the shortest pulse width of 145 ns were obtained at the pulse repetition frequency of 7.14 kHz,where dual wavelength oscillation in both 2090 nm and 2097 nm was observed.This work provides an effective way for a direct laser diode(LD)pumped Q-switched Ho laser,which is compact and accessible.Furthermore,the current SA could be replaced by the 2D materials with broadband saturable absorption such as topological insulators or transition-metal dichalcogenides for seeking novel PQS lasers. 展开更多

Comparison of Small-Scale Actively and Passively Q-Switched Eye-Safe Intracavity Optical Parametric Oscillators at 1.57 μm 被引量:1

The first experimental comparison between the actively and passively Q-switched intracavity optical parametric oscillators (IOPOs) at 1.57μm driven by a small-scale diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser are thoroughly presented.It is found that the performances of the two types of IOPOs are complementary.The actively Q-switched IOPO features a shorter pulse duration,a higher peak power,and a superior power and pulse stability.However,in terms of compactness,operation threshold and conversion efficiency,passively Q-switched IOPOs are more attractive.It is further indicated that the passively Q-switched IOPO at 1.57 μm is a promising and cost-effective eye-safe laser source,especially at the low and moderate output levels.In addition,instructional improvement measures for the two types of IOPOs are also summarized. 展开更多

Diode end-pumped solid-state lasers have the potential to yield high quality laser beams with high efficiency for laser range finding and warning receiver applications as well as day and night military laser designation systems. In this paper we presents theoretical calculations using Advanced Dynamics Professional LASCAD software and experimental studies for a high power pigtailed fiber diode laser module of 8 W operating at 808 nm with a specially designed high efficiency cooling system, end pumped high-efficiency Nd:YVO4 laser of 3 × 3 × 10 mm rod and overall cavity length of 44 mm. To the best of our knowledge a self Q-switching effects was generated in Nd:YVO4 laser by changing the cavity dimensions and the position of the intracavity KTP crystal at certain regime of operation for the first time, in which the cavity length is reduced to be 30 mm and the distance between Nd:YVO4 rod and KTP crystal is only 1mm. Self Q-switched laser pulse at 532 nm with high peak power of 96 W, pulse width of 88 ns at FWHM and repetition rate of 400 kHz was achieved. Experimental studies of a passive Q-switched Nd:YVO4 laser using Cr:YAG crystal with three different transmissions of 30%, 40% and 70% were investigated. Passive Q-switched laser pulse at 1064 nm and narrow line width of less than 1.5 nm with highest peak power of nearly 18 kW, short pulse width of less than 4 ns at FWHM and higher repetition rate of 45 kHz using Cr:YAG with transmission of 30% was achieved for the first time. 展开更多

MXene V_(2)CT_(x) has great practicability because it is not easy to degrade under ambient conditions.In this paper,a V_(2)CT_(x) saturable absorber(SA)was firstly applied to a passively Q-switched(PQS)laser,to the best of our knowledge.The V_(2)CT_(x)-SA was prepared by the spin-coating method.The linear absorption of the V_(2)CT_(x)-SA in the 1000-2200 nm region and the nonlinear absorption near 2μm were studied.With the V_(2)CT_(x)-SA,a typical PQS operation at 1.94μm was realized in a Tm:YAlO3laser.The minimum pulse width produced by the PQS laser was 528 ns,and the peak power,repetition rate,and average output power were 10.06 W,65.9 kHz,and 350 mW,respectively.Meanwhile,the maximum pulse energy was 6.33μJ.This work demonstrates that the V_(2)CT_(x) can be used as an effective SA to obtain nanosecond pulses with high peak power and high repetition rate simultaneously. 展开更多

In this paper,both nonlinear saturable absorption and two-photon absorption(TPA) of few-layer molybdenum diselenide(MoSe2) were observed at 1.56 μm wavelength and further applied to mode-locked ultrafast fiber laser for the first time to our knowledge.Few-layer MoSe2 nanosheets were prepared by liquid-phase exfoliation method and characterized by x ray diffractometer,Raman spectroscopy,and atomic force microscopy.The obtained fewlayer MoSe2 dispersion is further composited with a polymer material for convenient fabrication of MoSe2 thin films.Then,we investigated the nonlinear optical(NLO) absorption property of the few-layer MoSe2 film using a balanced twin-detector measurement technique.Both the saturable absorption and TPA effects of the few-layer MoSe2 film were found by increasing the input optical intensity.The saturable absorption shows a modulation depth of 0.63% and a low nonsaturable loss of 3.5%,corresponding to the relative modulation depth of 18%.The TPA effect occurred when the input optical intensity exceeds 260 MW∕cm2.Furthermore,we experimentally exploit the saturable absorption of few-layer MoSe2 film to mode lock an all-fiber erbium-doped fiber laser.Stable soliton mode locking at 1558 nm center wavelength is achieved with pulse duration of 1.45 ps.It was also observed that the TPA process suppresses the mode-locking operation in the case of higher optical intensity.Our results indicate that layered MoSe2,as another two-dimensional nanomaterial,can provide excellent NLO properties(e.g.,saturable absorption and TPA) for potential applications in ultrashort pulse generation and optical limiting. 展开更多

By using the ultrasound-assisted liquid phase exfoliation method, Bi_2Te_3 nanosheets are synthesized and deposited onto a quartz plate to form a kind of saturable absorber(SA), in which nonlinear absorption properties around 2 μm are analyzed with a home-made mode-locked laser. With the as-prepared Bi_2Te_3 SA employed,a stable passively Q-switched all-solid-state 2 μm laser is successfully realized. Q-switched pulses with a maximum average output power of 2.03 W are generated under an output coupling of 5%, corresponding to the maximum single-pulse energy of 18.4 μJ and peak power of 23 W. The delivered shortest pulse duration and maximum repetition rate are 620 ns and 118 k Hz under an output coupling of 2%, respectively. It is the first presentation of such Bi_2Te_3 SA employed in a solid-state Q-switched crystalline laser at 2 μm, to the best of our knowledge. In comparison with other 2 D materials suitable for pulsed 2 μm lasers, the saturable absorption performance of Bi_2Te_3 SA is proved to be promising in generating high power and high-repetition-rate 2 μm laser pulses. 展开更多

Further, their use as saturable absorbers in a passively Q-switched visible solid-state laser for the generation of soliton pulses is demonstrated. A compact saturable absorber mirror(SAM) based on few-layer molybdenum disulfide(MoS2) nanoplatelets was fabricated and successfully used as an efficient saturable absorber(SA) for the passively Q-switched solid-state laser at 1 μm wavelength. Pulses as short as 182 ns were obtained from a ytterbium-doped(Yb:LGGG) bulk laser Q-switched by the MoS2 SAM, which we believe to be the shortest one ever achieved from the MoS2 SAs-based Q-switched bulk lasers. A maximum average output power of 0.6 W was obtained with a slope efficiency of 24%,corresponding to single pulse energy up to 1.8 μJ. In addition, the simultaneous dual-wavelength Q-switching at 1025.2 and 1028.1 nm has been successfully achieved. The results indicate the promising potential of few-layer MoS2 nanoplatelets as nonlinear optical switches for achieving efficient pulsed bulk lasers. 展开更多

The shortest pulse duration in the Q-switched laser is 115 ns, and the output power ranges from1.23 W at 1.71 MHz to 2.11 W at 2.50 MHz when the pump power rises from 7.40 to 10.90 W with the utilization of GO Langmuir–Blodgett(LB) films based on the convenient and low-cost LB technique.
