The seepage characteristics of multiscale porous media is of considerable significance in many scientific and engineering fields. The Darcy permeability is one of the key macroscopic physical properties to characterize the seepage capacity of porous media. Therefore, based on the statistically fractal scaling law of porous media, fractal geometry is applied to model the multiscale pore structures. And a two-dimensional fractal orifice-throat model with multiscale and tortuous characteristics is proposed for the seepage flow through porous media. The analytical expression for Darcy permeability of porous media is derived, which is validated by comparing with available experimental data. The results show that the Darcy permeability is significantly influenced by porosity,orifice-throat fractal dimension, minimum to maximum diameter ratio,orifice-throat ratio and tortuosity fractal dimension. The present results are helpful for understanding the seepage mechanism of multiscale porous media, and may provide theoretical basis for unconventional oil and gas exploration and development, porous phase transition energy storage composites,CO2 geological sequestration, environmental protection and nuclear waste treatment, etc. 展开更多

In recent years, environmental pollution and energy crisis have become increasingly serious issues owing to the burning of fossil fuels.Among the many technologies, decomposition of water to produce hydrogen has attracted much attention because of its sustainability and non-polluting characteristic. However, highly efficient decomposition of water that is driven by visible light is still a challenge.Herein,we report the large-scale preparation of step-scheme porous graphite carbon nitride/Zn0.2Cd0.8S-diethylenetriamine(Pg-C3N4/Zn0.2Cd0.8S-DETA)composite by a facile solvothermal method. It was found by UV-vis spectroscopy that 15%Pg-C3N4/Zn0.2Cd0.8S-DETA exhibited suitable visible absorption edge and band gap for water decomposition. The hydrogen production rate of 15%Pg-C3N4/Zn0.2Cd0.8S-DETA composite was 6.69 mmol g^-1 h^-1,which was 16.73,1.61,and 1.44 times greater than those of Pg-C3N4,CdS-DETA,and Zn0.2Cd0.8S-DETA,respectively.In addition,15%Pg-C3N4/Zn0.2Cd0.8S-DETA composite displayed excellent photocatalytic stability, which was maintained for seven cycles of photocatalytic water splitting test.We believe that 15%Pg-C3N4/Zn0.2Cd0.8S-DETA composite can be a valuable guide for the development of solar hydrogen production applications in the near future. 展开更多

When ocean waves propagate over the sea floor, dynamic wave pressures and bottom shear stresses exert on the surface of seabed. The bottom shear stresses provide a horizontal loading in the wave-seabed interaction system, while dynamic wave pressures provide a vertical loading in the system. However, the bottom shear stresses have been ignored in most previous studies in the past.In this study, the effects of the bottom shear stresses on the dynamic response in a seabed of finite thickness under wave loading will be examined, based on Biot's dynamic poro-elastic theory. In the model,an "u-p" approximation will be adopted instead of quasi-static model that have been used in most previous studies.Numerical results indicate that the bottom shear stresses has certain influences on the wave-induced seabed dynamic response.Furthermore, wave and soil characteristics have considerable influences on the relative difference of seabed response between the previous model(without shear stresses) and the present model(with shear stresses). As shown in the parametric study, the relative differences between two models could up to 10% of p0,depending on the amplitude of bottom shear stresses. 展开更多

Scattering of surface waves by the edge of a small undulation on a porous bed in an ocean of finite depth, where the free surface has an ice-cover being modelled as an elastic plate of very small thickness, is investigated within the framework of linearized water wave theory. The effect of surface tension at the surface below the ice-cover is neglected. There exists only one wave number propagating at just below the ice-cover. A perturbation analysis is employed to solve the boundary value problem governed by Laplace's equation by a method based on Green's integral theorem with the introduction of appropriate Green's function and thereby evaluating the reflection and transmission coefficients approximately up to first order. A patch of sinusoidal ripples is considered as an example and the related coefficients are determined. 展开更多

In this paper, we have discussed the linear stabil- ity analysis of the electrified surface separating two coaxial Oldroyd-B fluid layers confined between two impermeable rigid cylinders in the presence of both interfacial insoluble surfactant and surface charge through porous media. The case of long waves interfacial stability has been studied. The dispersion relation is solved numerically and hence the ef- fects of various parameters are illustrated graphically. Our results reveal that the influence of the physicochemical pa- rameterβ is to shrink the instability region of the surface and reduce the growth rate of the unstable normal modes. Such important effects of the surfactant on the shape of in- terfacial structures are more sensitive to the variation of the βcorresponding to non-Newtonian fluids-model compared with the Newtonian fluids model. In the case of long wave limit, it is demonstrated that increasing r, has a dual role in- fluence (de-stabilizing effects) depending on the viscosity of the core fluid. It has a destabilizing effect at the large values of the core fluid viscosity coefficient, while this role is ex- changed to a regularly stabilizing influence at small values of such coefficient. 展开更多

The hydroelastic responses of a submerged horizontal solid/porous plate attached at the front of a very large rectangular floating structure(VLFS)under wave action has been investigated in the context of linear water wave theory.Darcy’s law is adopted to represent energy dissipation in pores. It is assumed that the porous plates are made of material with very fine pores so that the normal velocity across the perforated porous is linearly associated with the pressure drop.In the analytic method, the eigenfunction expansion-matching method(EEMM)for multiple domains is applied to solve the hydrodynamic problem and the elastic equation of motion is solved by the modal expansion method. The performance of the proposed submerged horizontal solid/porous plate can be significantly enhanced by selecting optimal design parameters, such as plate length, horizontal position, submerged depth and porosity. It is concluded that good damping effect can be achieved through installation of solid and porous plate.Porous plate has better damping effect at low frequencies, while solid plate has better damping effect at high frequencies. The optimal ratio of plate length to water depth is 0.25-0.375,and the optimal ratio of submerged depth to water depth is 0.09-0.181. 展开更多

The interaction of oblique incident water waves with a small bottom deformation on a porous ocean-bed is examined analytically here within the framework of linear water wave theory. The upper surface of the ocean is assumed to be covered by an infinitely extended thin uniform elastic plate, while the lower surface is bounded by a porous bottom surface having a small deformation. By employing a simplified perturbation analysis, involving a small parameter c^(〈〈l ), which measures the smallness of the deformation, the governing Boundary Value Problem (BVP) is reduced to a simpler BVP for the first-order correction of the potential function. This BVP is solved using a method based on Green's integral theorem with the introduction of suitable Green's function to obtain the first-order potential, and this potential function is then utilized to calculate the first-order reflection and transmission coefficients in terms of integrals involving the shape function c(x) representing the bottom deformation. Consideration of a patch of sinusoidal ripples shows that when the quotient of twice the component of the incident field wave number propagating just below the elastic plate and the ripple wave number approaches one, the theory predicts a resonant interaction between the bed and the surface below the elastic plate. Again, for small angles of incidence, the reflected wave energy is more as compared to the other angles of incidence. It is also observed that the reflected wave energy is somewhat sensitive to the changes in the flexural rigidity of the elastic plate, the porosity of the bed and the ripple wave numbers. The main advantage of the present study is that the results for the values of reflection and transmission coefficients obtained are found to satisfy the energy-balance relation almost accurately. 展开更多

The scattering of oblique incident surface waves by the edge of a small cylindrical deformation on a porous bed in an ocean of finite depth, is investigated here within the framework of linearized water wave theory. Using perturbation analysis, the corresponding problem governed by modified Helmholtz equation is reduced to a boundary value problem for the first-order correction of the potential function. The first-order potential and, hence, the reflection and transmission coefficients are obtained by a method based on Green's integral theorem with the introduction of appropriate Green's function. Consideration of a patch of sinusoidal ripples shows that when the quotient of twice the component of the incident field wave number along x-direction and the ripple wave number approaches one, the theory predicts a resonant interaction between the bed and the free-surface, and the reflection coefficient becomes a multiple of the number of ripples. Again, for small angles of incidence, the reflected energy is more as compared to the other angles of incidence. It is also observed that the reflected energy is somewhat sensitive to the changes in the porosity of the ocean bed. From the derived results, the solutions for problems with impermeable ocean bed can be obtained as particular cases. 展开更多

Developing host materials with high specific surface area, good electron conductivity, and fast ion transportation channel is critical for high performance lithium-selenium(Li-Se) batteries. Herein, a series of three dimensional ordered hierarchically porous carbon(3D OHPC) materials with micro/meso/macropores are designed and synthesized for Li-Se battery. The porous structure is tuned by following the concept of the generalized Murray’s law to facilitate the mass diffusion and reduce ion transport resistance. The optimized 3D Se/OHPC cathode exhibits a very high 2 nd discharge capacity of 651 m Ah/g and retains 361 m Ah/g after 200 cycles at 0.2 C. Even at a high current rate of 5 C, the battery still shows a discharge capacity as high as 155 m Ah/g. The improved electrochemical performance is attributed to the synergy effect of the interconnected and well-designed micro, meso and macroporosity while shortened ions diffusion pathways of such Murray materials accelerate its ionic and electronic conductivities leading to the enhanced electrochemical reaction. The diffusivity coefficient in Se/OHPC can reach a very high value of 1.3 × 10^(-11)cm^(2)/s, much higher than those in single pore size carbon hosts. Their effective volume expansion accommodation capability and reduced dissolution of polyselenides ensure the high stability of the battery. This work, for the first time, established the clear relationship between textural properties of cathode materials and their performance and demonstrates that the concept of the generalized Murray’s law can be used as efficient guidance for the rational design and synthesis of advanced hierarchically porous materials and the great potential of 3D OHPC materials as a practical high performance cathode material for Li-Se batteries. 展开更多

The numerical determination of static characteristics of bearings allows a cost-efficient and fast pre-design.In this study, two flow models for aerostatic thrust bearings with pressurized porous material are presented and analyzed. The models are based on the coupling of the Reynolds equation for lubricants(REL)and the determination of pressure drop through porous material by Darcy’s law.The simplified model is based on the assumption of a one-dimensional axial flow through porous media. The extended model considers the three-dimensional flow in the porous body. The analysis includes pressurized air from 4 to 9 bar(a)with nominal clearance of 5 to 60μm,Commercial CFD(computational fluid dynamics)software was used to verify the results. The extended model allows a more accurate prediction about the performance in the critical gap range. In total, the results show good agreement with CFD within a short computation time. 展开更多

A new microzone-combustion synthesis is proposed for preparing S, N-doped hierarchically porous carbons(CAC-CN) with a novel mixed microstructure of sp~2 short-range order area and sp~3 defective area, achieving a coexistence of high conductivity and high capacitance as well as good access for electrolyte.By engineering ‘‘water in salts" into a polymer matrix, a high-voltage(2.5 V) aqueous gel electrolyte(HGWIS) is prepared and used to construct an aqueous solid-state SCs by in situ polymerization between the electrodes. The good match of CAC-CN electrode and HG-WIS electrolyte endows the assembled devices with superior high energy density and excellent capacitance retention, also a good temperature robustness, as well a high flexibility in 0-180° bending cycles. It becomes increasingly clear that non-uniform distribution of immiscible fluids in porous rock is particularly relevant to seismic wave dispersion. White proposed a patchy saturation model in 1975, in which spherical gas pockets were located at the center of a liquid saturated cube. For an extremely light and compressible inner gas, the physical properties can be approximated by a vacuum with White's model. The model successfully analyzes the dispersion phenomena of a P-wave velocity in gas-water- saturated rocks. In the case of liquid pocket saturation, e.g., an oil-pocket surrounded by a water saturated host matrix, the light fluid-pocket assumption is doubtful, and few works have been reported in White's framework. In this work, Poisson's ratio, the bulk modulus, and the effective density of a dual-liquid saturated medium are formulated for the heterogeneous porous rocks containing liquid-pockets. The analysis of the difference between the newly derived bulk modulus and that of White's model shows that the effects of liquid-pocket saturation do not disappear unless the porosity approaches zero. The inner pocket fluid can no longer be ignored. The improvements of the P-wave velocity predictions are illustrated with two examples taken from experiments, i.e., the P-wave velocity in the sandstone saturated by oil and brine and the P-wave velocity for heavy oils and stones at different temperatures. 展开更多

The problem of the creeping flow through a spherical droplet with a non-homogenous porous layer in a spherical container has been studied analytically.Darcy’s model for the flow inside the porous annular region and the Stokes equation for the flow inside the spherical cavity and container are used to analyze the flow. The drag force is exerted on the porous spherical particles enclosing a cavity, and the hydrodynamic permeability of the spherical droplet with a non-homogeneous porous layer is calculated.Emphasis is placed on the spatially varying permeability of a porous medium, which is not covered in all the previous works related to spherical containers. The variation of hydrodynamic permeability and the wall effect with respect to various flow parameters are presented and discussed graphically. The streamlines are presented to discuss the kinematics of the flow. Some previous results for hydrodynamic permeability and drag forces have been verified as special limiting cases. 展开更多

The present paper aims at giving some general ideas concerning the micromechanical approach of the strength of a porous material. It is shown that its determination theoretically amounts to solving a nonlinear boundary value problem defined on a representative elementary volume(REV). The principle of nonlinear homogenization is illustrated based on the case of a solid phase having a Green’s strength criterion. An original refinement of the so-called secant method(based on two reference strains) is also provided. The paper also describes the main feature of the Gurson’s model which implements the principle of limit analysis on a conceptual model of hollow sphere. The main difference relates with how to describe the interaction between solid phase and liquid phase in constitutive model. The derived onset condition of strain localization under Terzaghi' s effective stress description can be used to interpret different failure types, piping effect, landslides and mudflows, by means of the type and the magnitude ratio of relative movement between solid phase and liquid phase. In vortex motion fluid moves in curve path and the stream lines are curved. When the fluid flows between curved stream line, the centrifugal forces are setup which is counter balanced by pressure forces acting in the radial direction. The vortex motion has two types of curved motion. The first type called free vortex type, the fluid moves due to its own natural effect but energy is not added to fluid when moving in curved path. The second type called forced vortex, in which energy is added to fluid. A two dimensional steady laminar free convective flow of viscous incompressible flow in porous media voids is considered. In this paper the motion of fluid is studied while moving in the porous media. It is studied that the motion of the fluid in the porous media is vortex motion at the low Reynolds’s number, where the motion is laminar motion and the fluid obeys the laws of vortex motion. 展开更多
