Clays have considerable influence on the electrical properties of hydrate-bearing sediments. It is desirable to understand the electrical properties of hydrate-bearing clayey sediments and to build hydrate saturation(S_(h))models for reservoir evaluation and monitoring. The electrical properties of tetrahydrofuran-hydrate-bearing sediments with montmorillonite are characterized by complex conductivity at frequencies from 0.01 Hz to 1 kHz.The effects of clay and Sh on the complex conductivity were analyzed.A decrease and increase in electrical conductance result from the clay-swelling-induced blockage and ion migration in the electrical double layer(EDL),respectively. The quadrature conductivity increases with the clay content up to 10%because of the increased surface site density of counterions in EDL.Both the in-phase conductivity and quadrature conductivity decrease consistently with increasing Sh from 0.50 to 0.90.Three sets of models for Sh evaluation were developed. The model based on the Simandoux equation outperforms Archie’s formula, with a root-mean-square error(E_(RMS))of 1.8%and 3.9%,respectively,highlighting the clay effects on the in-phase conductivity. The fre-quency effect correlations based on in-phase and quadrature conductivities exhibit inferior performance(E_(RMS)=11.6%and 13.2%,re-spectively)due to the challenge of choosing an appropriate pair of frequencies and intrinsic uncertainties from two measurements. The second-order Cole-Cole formula can be used to fit the complex-conductivity spectra. One pair of inverted Cole-Cole parameters,i.e.,characteristic time and chargeability,is employed to predict S_(h) with an E_(RMS) of 5.05%and 9.05%,respectively. 展开更多

This paper investigates the exponential stability and performance analysis of nonlinear time-delay impulsive systems subject to actuator saturation. When continuous dynamics is unstable, under some conditions, it is shown that the system can be stabilized by a class of saturated delayed-impulses regardless of the length of input delays. Conversely, when the system is originally stable, it is shown that under some conditions, the system is robust with respect to sufficient small delayed-impulses. Moreover, the design problem of the controller with the goal of obtaining a maximized estimate of the domain of attraction is formulated via a convex optimization problem. Three examples are provided to demonstrate the validity of the main results. 展开更多

This paper investigates the tracking control problem for unmanned underwater vehicles(UUVs)systems with sensor faults, input saturation, and external disturbance caused by waves and ocean currents. An active sensor fault-tolerant control scheme is proposed.First, the developed method only requires the inertia matrix of the UUV,without other dynamic information, and can handle both additive and multiplicative sensor faults.Subsequently,an adaptive fault-tolerant controller is designed to achieve asymptotic tracking control of the UUV by employing robust integral of the sign of error feedback method. It is shown that the effect of sensor faults is online estimated and compensated by an adaptive estimator. With the proposed controller, the tracking error and estimation error can asymptotically converge to zero. Finally, simulation results are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

Objective This study aimed to noninvasively characterize the metabolic alterations in ischemic brain tissues using Z-spectrum-fitted multiparametric chemical exchange saturation transfer-weighted magnetic resonance imaging(CEST-MRI).Methods Three sets of Z-spectrum data with saturation power(B_(1))values of 1.5,2.5,and 3.5µT,respectively,were acquired from 17 patients with ischemic stroke.Multiple contrasts contributing to the Z-spectrum,including fitted amide proton transfer(APT_(fitted)),+2 ppm peak(CEST@2ppm),concomitantly fitted APT_(fitted) and CEST@2ppm(APT&CEST@2ppm),semisolid magnetization transfer contrast(MT),aliphatic nuclear Overhauser effect(NOE),and direct saturation of water(DSW),were fitted with 4 and 5 Lorentzian functions, respectively. The CEST metrics were compared between ischemic lesions and contralateral normal white matter(CNWM),and the correlation between the CEST metrics and the apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC)was assessed. The differences in the Z-spectrum metrics under varied B1 values were also investigated. Results Ischemic lesions showed increased APTfitted,CEST@2ppm,APT&CEST@2ppm,NOE,and DSW as well as decreased MT.APT&CEST@2ppm,MT,and DSW showed a significant correlation with ADC[APT&CEST@2ppm at the 3 B_(1) values:R=0.584/0.467/0.551;MT at the 3 B_(1) values:R=−0.717/−0.695/−0.762(4-parameter fitting),R=−0.734/−0.711/−0.785(5-parameter fitting);DSW of 4-/5-parameter fitting:R=0.794/0.811(2.5µT),R=0.800/0.790(3.5µT)].However,the asymmetric analysis of amide proton transfer(APT_(asym))could not differentiate the lesions from CNWM and showed no correlation with ADC.Furthermore, the Z-spectrum contrasts varied with B_(1).Conclusion The Z-spectrum-fitted multiparametric CEST-MRI can comprehensively detect metabolic alterations in ischemic brain tissues. 展开更多

This paper introduced a novel microstructure-based constitutive model designed to comprehensively characterize the intricate mechanical behavior of anisotropic clay rocks under the influence of water saturation. The proposed model encompasses elastoplastic deformation,time-dependent behavior, and induced damage.A two-step homogenization process incorporates mineral compositions and porosity to determine the macroscopic elastic tensor and plastic yield criterion. The model also considers interfacial debonding between the matrix and inclusions to capture rock damage. The application of the proposed model is demonstrated through an analysis of Callovo-Oxfordian clayey rocks, specifically in the context of radioactive waste disposal in France.Model parameters are determined, followed by numerical simulations of various laboratory tests including lateral decompression tests with constant mean stress, triaxial compression tests under different water saturation conditions, and creep tests. The numerical results are compared with corresponding experimental data to assess the efficacy of the proposed model. 展开更多

Based on imbibition replacement of shut-in well in tight oil reservoirs, this paper expounds the principle of saturation rebalancing during the shut-in process after fracturing, establishes an optimization method for shut-in time after horizontal well volume fracturing with the goal of shortening oil breakthrough time and achieving rapid oil breakthrough, and analyzes the influences of permeability, porosity, fracture half-length and fracturing fluid volume on the shut-in time. The oil and water imbibition displacement in the matrix and fractures occurs during the shut-in process of wells after fracturing. If the shut-in time is too short, the oil-water displacement is not sufficient, and the oil breakthrough time is long after the well is put into production. If the shut-in time is too long, the oil and water displacement is sufficient, but the energy dissipation in the formation near the bottom of the well is severe, and the flowing period is short and the production is low after the well is put into production. A rational shut-in time can help shorten the oil breakthrough time, extend the flowing period and increase the production of the well. The rational shut-in time is influenced by factors such as permeability, porosity, fracture half-length and fracturing fluid volume. The shortest and longest shut-in times are negatively correlated with porosity, permeability, and fracture half-length, and positively correlated with fracturing fluid volume. The pilot test in tight oil horizontal wells in the Songliao Basin, NE China, has confirmed that the proposed optimization method can effectively improve the development effect of horizontal well volume fracturing. 展开更多

This paper investigates the problem of path tracking control for autonomous ground vehicles(AGVs),where the input saturation, system nonlinearities and uncertainties are considered.Firstly, the nonlinear path tracking system is formulated as a linear parameter varying(LPV)model where the variation of vehicle velocity is taken into account.Secondly, considering the noise effects on the measurement of lateral offset and heading angle,an observer-based control strategy is proposed, and by analyzing the frequency domain characteristics of the derivative of desired heading angle,a finite frequency H_∞index is proposed to attenuate the effects of the derivative of desired heading angle on path tracking error.Thirdly, sufficient conditions are derived to guarantee robust H_∞performance of the path tracking system, and the calculation of observer and controller gains is converted into solving a convex optimization problem. Finally, simulation examples verify the advantages of the control method proposed in this paper. 展开更多

This paper proposes a methodology for an alternative history matching process enhanced by the incorporation of a simplified binary interpretation of reservoir saturation logs(RST) as objective function. Incorporating fluids saturation logs during the history matching phase unlocks the possibility to adjust or select models that better represent the near wellbore waterfront movement, which is particularly important for uncertainty mitigation during future well interference assessments in water driven reservoirs. For the purposes of this study, a semi-synthetic open-source reservoir model was used as base case to evaluate the proposed methodology. The reservoir model represents a water driven, highly heterogenous sandstone reservoir from Namorado field in Brazil. To effectively compare the proposed methodology against the conventional methods, a commercial reservoir simulator was used in combination with a state-of-the-art benchmarking workflow based on the Big LoopTMapproach. A well-known group of binary metrics were evaluated to be used as the objective function, and the Matthew correlation coefficient(MCC) has been proved to offer the best results when using binary data from water saturation logs. History matching results obtained with the proposed methodology allowed the selection of a more reliable group of reservoir models, especially for cases with high heterogeneity. The methodology also offers additional information and understanding of sweep behaviour behind the well casing at specific production zones, thus revealing full model potential to define new wells and reservoir development opportunities. 展开更多

Cubic gauche polynitrogen(cg-N)is an attractive high-energy density material.However,high-pressure synthesized cg-N will decompose at low pressure and cannot exist under ambient conditions. Here, the stabilities of cg-N surfaces with and without saturations at different pressures and temperatures are systematically investigated based on first-principles calculations and molecular dynamics simulations.Pristine surfaces at 0 GPa are very brittle and will decompose at 300 K,especially(110)surface will collapse completely just after structural relaxation, whereas the decompositions of surfaces can be suppressed by applying pressure, indicating that surface instability causes the cg-N decomposition at low pressure.Due to the saturation of dangling bonds and transferring electrons to the surfaces, saturation with H can stabilize surfaces under ambient conditions, while it is impossible for OH saturation to occur solely from obtaining electrons from surfaces. This suggests that polynitrogen is more stable in an acidic environment or when the surface is saturated with less electronegative adsorbates. 展开更多

This paper tackles the maximum correntropy Kalman filtering problem for discrete time-varying non-Gaussian systems subject to state saturations and stochastic nonlinearities. The stochastic nonlinearities, which take the form of statemultiplicative noises, are introduced in systems to describe the phenomenon of nonlinear disturbances. To resist non-Gaussian noises, we consider a new performance index called maximum correntropy criterion(MCC) which describes the similarity between two stochastic variables. To enhance the “robustness” of the kernel parameter selection on the resultant filtering performance, the Cauchy kernel function is adopted to calculate the corresponding correntropy. The goal of this paper is to design a Kalman-type filter for the underlying systems via maximizing the correntropy between the system state and its estimate. By taking advantage of an upper bound on the one-step prediction error covariance, a modified MCC-based performance index is constructed. Subsequently, with the assistance of a fixed-point theorem, the filter gain is obtained by maximizing the proposed cost function. In addition, a sufficient condition is deduced to ensure the uniqueness of the fixed point. Finally, the validity of the filtering method is tested by simulating a numerical example. 展开更多

Bentonite, consisting of clay minerals of the montmorillonite group, has been widely used as an adsorbent and backfill material in nuclear waste disposal and groundwater remediation. It is challenging to use bentonite as a filling material in cold regions since bentonite is highly sensitive to thermal environmental changes, during which its bulk volume and microstructure change significantly. In this study,a series of one-dimensional and three-dimensional freeze-thaw tests were carried out within a closed system to investigate the influencing factors of the deformation of bentonite under freeze-thaw cycles. Results show that the initial soil water content greatly impacts bentonite's deformation during freeze-thaw cycles. For an initial higher degree of saturation(Sr),the expansion caused by the formation of ice lenses has a greater impact than the shrinkage induced by dehydration,ice-cementation,and so on.Conversely, bentonite tends to shrink at a lower degree of saturation during freezing. And the critical degree of saturation that determines bentonite's behavior of frost heave or frost shrinkage seems to be roughly 0.8.As the number of freeze-thaw cycles rises, initially uncompacted bentonite clay becomes more compacted, and initially compacted bentonite clay remains unchanged. 展开更多

High-k materials as an alternative dielectric layer for SiC power devices have the potential to reduce interfacial state defects and improve MOS channel conduction capability.Besides, under identical conditions of gate oxide thickness and gate voltage, the high-k dielectric enables a greater charge accumulation in the channel region, resulting in a larger number of free electrons available for conduction. However, the lower energy band gap of high-k materials leads to significant leakage currents at the interface with Si C,which greatly affects device reliability.By inserting a layer of SiO_(2)between the high-k material and Si C,the interfacial barrier can be effectively widened and hence the leakage current will be reduced. In this study, the optimal thickness of the intercalated SiO_(2)was determined by investigating and analyzing the gate dielectric breakdown voltage and interfacial defects of a dielectric stack composed of atomic-layer-deposited Al_(2)O_(3)layer and thermally nitride SiO_(2).Current-voltage and high-frequency capacitance-voltage measurements were performed on metal-oxide-semiconductor test structures with 35 nm thick Al_(2)O_(3)stacked on 1 nm,2 nm,3 nm,6 nm,or 9 nm thick nitride SiO_(2).Measurement results indicated that the current conducted through the oxides was affected by the thickness of the nitride oxide and the applied electric field. Finally,a saturation thickness of stacked SiO_(2)that contributed to dielectric breakdown and interfacial band offsets was identified. The findings in this paper provide a guideline for the SiC gate dielectric stack design with the breakdown strength and the interfacial state defects considered. 展开更多

Free gas saturation is a key parameter for calculating shale gas reserves. The complex conductivity mechanism of shale reservoirs restricts the application of Archie's formula and its extended form for the evaluation of free gas saturation.Instead,a number of non-resistivity-based saturation evaluation methods suitable for shale gas reservoirs have been established, including core calibration(TOC method, clay content method),gas porosity cutoff, excavation effect and four-pore modeling. These methods, together with adsorbed phase porosity correction, are used to calculate the free gas saturation. These methods are applied to shale reservoirs of the Upper Ordovician Wufeng Formation and the Lower Silurian Longmaxi Formation in the Sichuan Basin, southwestern China to test their applicability and accuracy. The results, when compared with measured data from core samples, show that the TOC-based core calibration is more accurate in evaluating free gas saturation in the entire shale gas interval, which is of great significance to the calculation of shale gas reserves. 展开更多

Context: Automobile pollution is becoming a potential threat to the cardiorespiratory health of the urban population of sub-Saharan Africa. The present study aims to evaluate the level of concentrations of fine particles (PM2.5 and PM10) near road traffic and the effects of exposure to automobile pollutants on pulmonary function and arteriolar blood oxygen saturation among sellers around road traffic. Materials and Methods: The study recruited 48 healthy people carrying out a sales activity near road traffic. PM2.5 and PM10 measurements were taken from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. using a Temtop Airing-1000 portable particle detector. Spirometric measurements were taken in the morning and in the evening from a portable Spirobank G spirometer. Oxygen saturation measurements were also taken in the morning and evening using a Pulse oxymeter CMS50D pulse oxymeter. Results: Mean values of forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), peak expiratory flow (PEF), and forced expiratory flow between 25% and 75% of forced vital capacity (FEF25 - 75) recorded in the evening were significantly lower than those obtained in the morning in the subjects of the total group and in the men. Only the mean values of PEF and FEF25 - 75 obtained in the evening were significantly lower than those recorded in the morning in women. Minimum PM2.5 values recorded near road traffic were negatively correlated with evening PEF in men, while maximum PM10 values were negatively correlated with evening PEF in women. The blood oxygen saturation recorded in the evening was significantly lower than that obtained in the morning. Conclusion: Short-term exposure to automobile pollutants has adverse effects on lung function and oxygen saturation in people carrying out a sales activity near road traffic. 展开更多

This paper investigates the application of active mass dampers to mitigate the vibrations of building structures subjected to unknown external excitations under controller saturation conditions. By utilizing an H∞ control strategy, the optimal state feedback controller is derived by solving the linear matrix inequality problem for controller saturation. Case studies show that the proposed controller is capable of stabilizing the closed-loop system with good control performance and effectively suppressing vibrations in building structures under unknown external excitation. When compared to controllers that do not consider saturation, the proposed controller requires lower gain and results in reduced energy consumption. Nonlinear materials have gained wide interest as saturable absorbers and pulse compression for pulsed laser applications due to their unique optical properties. This work investigates the third-order nonlinear phenomenon of tungsten trioxide(WO_(3))thin films. The giant nonlinear absorption and nonlinear refractive index of WO_(3)thin films were characterized by Z-scan method at 800 nm.We experimentally observed the giant saturable absorption(SA)and nonlinear refractive index of WO_(3)thin films prepared by the seedless layer hydrothermal method, with SA coefficient being as high as-2.59×105cm·GW^(-1).The SA coefficient is at least one order of magnitude larger than those of the conventional semiconductors. The nonlinear refractive index n_(2)of WO_(3)film has been observed for the first time in recent studies and the corresponding coefficient can be up to 1.793 cm^(2)·GW^(-1).The large third-order nonlinear optical(NLO)response enables WO_(3)thin films to be promising candidates for optoelectronic and photonic applications in the near-infrared domain. 展开更多
