Neurobehavioral determinants of SCI self-care behavior, such as impulsivity, are not widely studied, yet understanding them could inform efforts to improve SCI self-care. We explored associations between impulsivity and self-care in an observational study of 35 US adults age 18 - 50 who had traumatic SCI with paraplegia at least six months before assessment. The primary outcome measure was self-reported self-care. In LASSO regression models that included all neurobehavioral measures and demographics as predictors of self-care, dispositional measures of greater impulsivity (negative urgency, lack of premeditation, lack of perseverance), and reduced mindfulness were associated with reduced self-care. Outcome (magnitude) sensitivity, a latent decision-making parameter derived from computationally modeling successive choices in a gambling task, was also associated with self-care behavior. These results are preliminary;more research is needed to demonstrate the utility of these findings in clinical settings. Information about associations between impulsivity and poor self-care in people with SCI could guide the development of interventions to improve SCI self-care and help patients with elevated risks related to self-care and secondary health conditions.展开更多

Using the convenience sampling method, self-care ability in 60 stroke patients was investigated for 6 months to 2 years post-stroke (sequelae stage), as well as the capability of primary caregivers selected from two communities in Shanghai, China. Influential factors were analyzed. Results demonstrated that only 37% of stroke patients exhibited strong self-care ability, and 43% of primary caregivers provided high levels of care. Results also demonstrated that self-care ability in stroke patients, as well as the capability of primary caregivers, should be improved. A total of 47% of stroke patients participated in community rehabilitation training, and self-care ability was significantly better in this group than in patients who did not receive rehabilitation training. Thus it is necessary to develop systematic, individualized, and family-based rehabilitative strategies to improve community rehabilitation training modes and strengthen rehabilitation guidance for patients and caregivers.展开更多

However, there is no measure for evaluating whether older diabetic patients have a stable life at the time of diagnosis. This study aimed to develop a scale to evaluate self-care stability for diabetic patients and to verify its reliability and validity. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at four hospitals in Japan. A draft scale comprising 39 items was developed to identify patients’ stability of diabetes self-care in life. A total of 69 patients diagnosed with diabetes for the first time at age 60 or older responded effectively to questionnaires. Results: As a result of item analysis and factor analysis, seven factors comprising 20 items were extracted. The cumulative contribution ratio before rotation was 70.577%. Cronbach’s α was 0.700 overall. The total score on this scale and the sum of the revised Philadelphia Geriatric Center Morale Scale scores were significantly positively correlated (r = 0.379). On comparing the total scale score based on glycated hemoglobin level, the scale score of the stable group was found to be higher. Therefore, this scale was found to be reliable and valid. Conclusions: This scale may have utility in the measurement of self-care stability in patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes later in life.展开更多

Although HIVST kits are available in South Africa, their distribution and use remain unregulated and its acceptability, undocumented. The aim of the study was to explore the acceptability of HIV self-testing among student nurses, examine their willingness to use self-testing, and evaluate their views on the implementation of a regulated HIV self-testing programme. This was a qualitative explorative study, and six focus group discussions were conducted with 67 student nurses recruited from a private nursing college, in Pretoria, South Africa. Thematic analysis and NVivo10 qualitative software were used for data analysis. The nurses perceived HIVST as an acceptable option for HIV testing and most were willing to self-test. Self-testing will provide confidential and accessible HIV testing services, reduce the stigma associated with the condition, and increase partner testing and disclosure. HIVST is more likely to be practised if self-testing kits are easily accessible and affordable, and there are strategies to educate people before the adoption of HIVST. The lack of pre- and post-test counselling, the risk of inaccurate test results, and lack of strategies for the confirmation of self-testing results were the main arguments against HIVST. The high acceptance of HIVST among nurses suggests that HIVST is a feasible option to increase the uptake of HIV-testing among HCWs. However, pre- and post-test counselling should be considered important components in the implementation of self-testing services. Educational and awareness campaigns should precede the roll-out of the self-testing programs.展开更多

文摘The thesis underscores the significant role of human capital in elevating rural self-development ability. The investment of human capital is making great contribution to western rural economic growth, and it plays an irreplaceable role in promoting the socio-economic development prominently. The characteristics of human resources development in western rural areas for the moment are analyzed as follows:the employment structure is simple;the structure of human resources is irrational;the shortage of human resources aggregate is accompanied by the critical phenomenon of idling;the human resources drain badly;there is low input and low output of talents. The thesis also propounds the fundamental approaches in order to elevating self-development ability of western rural areas:we should practise and implement National Medium and Long-term Planning of Talents Development and lay down as soon as possible the detailed matching policies and measures based on the reality of western rural areas;we should develop the education in western rural areas vigorously, and formulate the developmental strategies of bridging "knowledge gap";we should establish sound rural human resources development system, and reinforce the degree of training returning-home migrant workers;we should adjust the structure of human investment timely as needed, and strengthen the degree of human capital investment conspicuously.
文摘Objective: To explore the effects of self-directed learning readiness and learning attitude on problem-solving ability among Chinese undergraduate nursing students. Methods: A convenience sampling of 460 undergraduate nursing students was surveyed in Tianjin, China. Students who participated in the study completed a questionnaire that included social demographic questionnaire, Self-directed Learning Readiness Scale, Attitude to Learning Scale, and Social Problem-Solving Inventory. Pearson’s correlation analysis was performed to test the correlations among problem-solving ability, self-directed learning readiness, and learning attitude. Hierarchical linear regression analyses were performed to explore the mediating role of learning attitude. Results: The results showed that learning attitude (r=0.338, P<0.01) and self-directed learning readiness (r=0.493, P<0.01) were positively correlated with problem-solving ability. Learning attitude played a partial intermediary role between self-directed learning readiness and problem-solving ability (F=74.227, P<0.01). Conclusions: It is concluded that nursing educators should pay attention on students’ individual differences and take proper actions to inspire students’ self-directed learning readiness and learning attitude.
文摘Globally, there is increasing evidence that HIV self-testing (HIVST) is commonly practiced among health care workers (HCWs). Educational and awareness campaigns should precede the roll-out of the self-testing programs.
