The sequential strategy was employed to obtain the numerical solution of the modei using finite difference method. A non-uniform grid of discretization points was emploved to increase the accuracy of the numerical solution by means of coordinate transformation. One-dimensional column tests were conducted to verify the modei. The column was packed with simulated soils that were spiked with 2-chlorophenol. Ozone gas passed through the column at a flow rate of 100ml·min-1. The residual 2-chlorophenol content at different depths of the column was determined at fixed time intervals. [Method] The soil incubation experiment was conducted to study the effect of red mud on the pH values and electrical conductivity (EC), and the remediation efficiency of red mud on lead (Pb), zinc (Zn) and cadmium (Cd) in heavy metal contaminated soil. [Result] Red mud addition reduced the content of exchangeable Pb, Zn and Cd in the soil significantly. Compared with the control, when incubated for 30, 60 and 90 d with the red mud dosage of 4% (W/W), the exchangeable Pb content was decreased by 39.25%, 41.38% and 50.19%; exchangeable Zn content was decreased by 49.26%, 57.32% and 47.16%; and exchangeable Cd content was decreased by 19.53%, 24.06% and 25.70%, respectively. The application of red mud had significant impact on the share of Pb, Zn and Cd contents in five forms, and different amounts of red mud application all reduced the proportion of exchangeable Pb, Zn and Cd to the total Pb, Zn and Cd. In addition, the proportion of exchangeable Pb, Zn and Cd to total Pb, Zn and Cd decreased with the increasing amount of red mud addition. [Conclusion] The study provided references for reasonable application of red mud and reduction of heavy metal pollution in paddy soil.展开更多

The major factors limiting phytoremediation are the mass transfer, rate of plant uptake, and microbial biodegradation of HOCs. This article discusses the potential of surfactants to enhance desorption, plant uptake, and biodegradation of HOCs in the contaminated sites. Positive effects of surfactants on phytoremediation have been recently observed in greenhouse studies. The presence of some nonionic surfactants including polyoxyethylene sorbltan monooleate (Tween 80) and polyoxyethylene(23)dodecanol (Brij35) at relatively low concentrations resulted in significant positive effects on phytoremediation for pyrene-contaminated soil. However, the anionic surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS) and the cationic surfactant (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, CTMAB) were not useful because of their phytotoxicity or low efficiency for surfactant-enhanced phytoremediation (SEPR). The mechanisms of SEPR for HOC-contaminated sites were evaluated by considering experimental observations. In view of concerns about the cost effectiveness and toxicity of surfactants to plants, more research is needed to enhance the use of SEPR technology.展开更多

A characteristic of these ecosystems is their capacity to recyclenutrients through soil organic matter (SOM). Following disturbance through changed land management,SOM is rapidly mineralized and there is a corresponding decline in fertility and the variable chargecomponent of the cation exchange capacity. As these ecosystems are strongly dependent on SOM fortheir functionality, changed land use can have irreversible impacts on the productivity of thesesystems. The paper focuses on quantifying chemical degradation through 'benchmarking' using datafrom paired sites in tropical China and Thailand using surface charge fingerprinting. Using valuestaken from the fingerprint of an undisturbed soil, an index of chemical degradation from 'ideality'was calculated. Various management strategies that attempt to reverse degradative trends or improvepoor quality soils in their natural condition are discussed, such as the addition of natural claysand silicated materials. Results are present to show the effect of each of the aforementionedstrategies on surface charge characteristics and associated increases in plant productivity.展开更多

The effects and mechanism of steel slag, the silicon-rich alkaline byproduct which can remediate acidic soil contaminated by heavy metal, are mainly introduced in this paper to provide theory reference for future research. Firstly, the paper analyzes current research situation of in situ immobilization with amendments. Then, it introduces the main physicochemical properties of steel slag, and the effect on soil pH value as well as heavy metal activity. Besides, the paper elaborates the promoting effect on silicon-requiring plant and the strengthening mechanism for its resistant capability of heavy metal. According to the analysis, the application of steel slag could be a potential valuable strategy to remediate acidic soil contaminated by heavy metal by modifying the transformation of heavy metals in both soil and plant, so that the translocation of heavy metal in food chain is reduced.展开更多

Distribution of amount of Cr (VI) in the aqueous or solid system containing humic acid and sandy soil, was studied using batch experiments, es-pecially for effects of reaction time, pH, concentrations, temperature and irradiation on the reduction of Cr (VI), and the optimum reaction conditions. The results indicated a significant increase of the adsorption of Cr (VI) because of the complexion reaction between HA and Cr (VI) that occurred under acidic condition. The reaction mechanisms of HA with chromium on sand surfaces were certified. Thus it came to a conclusion that HA could be used effectively on remediation of Cr (VI)–contaminated soil and groundwater in a wide range of pH, with or without sunlight. These results suggest that the organic-inorganic complex—such as sandy soils coated with humic substances—is important as a metal reservoir in the environment.展开更多

This paper compares the pollutant extraction efficiency of traditional pumping and treating, which is a typical washing technology for the remediation of contaminated soils, with methods that utilize freeze-thaw cycles. In the soil freezing process, water shifts from unfrozen soils to the freezing front, and the permeability of soil will be enhanced under certain temperature gradients and water conditions. Therefore, this paper discusses the purification of contaminated soil through freeze-thaw action. We conducted a cleansing experiment on clay and silica sand infused with NaCl(simulation of heavy metals) and found that the efficiency of purification was enhanced remarkably in the latter by the freeze-thaw action. To assess the effective extraction of DNAPLs in soil, we conducted an experiment on suction by freezing, predicated on the different freezing points of moisture and pollutants. We found that the permeability coefficient was significantly increased by the freezing-thawing action, enabling the DNAPL contaminants to be extracted selectively and effectively.展开更多

We took the initial crude oil concentration, the amount of inoculation, the ratio of nitrogen and phosphorus, and the use of surfactant (Tween-80) as independent variables (factors), and the degrading ratio of crude oil as the dependent variable (response) after a 90-day experiment. The experiment explored the impacts of each independent variable and their interactions on the bioremediation of crude oil-polluted soil using the Box-Behnken design. Working with a simulated forecasting model the study obtained optimization va reed+specific degrading bacteria, a nitrogen to phosphorus ues for the treatment parameters of 200 g/kg of the ratio of about 6.0. and 0.2% surfactant. Under experimental conditions, for crude oil concentrations of 10, 30 and 50 g/kg, the optimal effects of the treatments achieved 71.87%, 66.61% and 54.52% degradation of the crude oil, respectively. The results can provide a basis for the technical development of plant-microorganism combined bioremediation of crude oil-polluted soil.展开更多

文摘Flax is an ideal crop for remedying soil contaminated by heavy metals. It has high tolerance to heavy metals and strong adsorption to heavy metals. Through properly using or adjusting external conditions such as regulator, moisture, fertilizer, microorganisms, and pH value, it is able to improve ability of flax to absorb, trans- fer, and accumulate heavy metals. To improve the ability of flax in remediating heavy metal contaminated soil, it is recommended to strengthen cultivation of flax varieties and screening of germplasm resources, actively carry out studies on tech- nologies of fax remedying heavy metal contaminated soil, implement large-scale and mechanized planting of flax, and promote control of heavy metal contaminated soil.

文摘Phytoremediation is becoming a cost-effective technology for the in-situ clean up of sites polluted with hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs). In view of concerns about the cost effectiveness and toxicity of surfactants to plants, more research is needed to enhance the use of SEPR technology.

文摘Soil and land degradation in the tropics can be identified and described interms of physical, chemical, and biological changes from its pristine state brought about by naturaland anthropogenic influences. Results are present to show the effect of each of the aforementionedstrategies on surface charge characteristics and associated increases in plant productivity.
文摘The technology of in situ immobilization with amendments is an important measure that remediates the soil contaminated by heavy metals, and selecting economical and effective amendments is the key. According to the analysis, the application of steel slag could be a potential valuable strategy to remediate acidic soil contaminated by heavy metal by modifying the transformation of heavy metals in both soil and plant, so that the translocation of heavy metal in food chain is reduced.

文摘Soil pollution endangers human health and ecological balance, which is why finding a highly efficient way to deal with pollutants is necessary.Biological method is an environmentally friendly treatment method.Bioelectrochemical systems(BESs),which combine electrochemistry with biological methods, have been widely used to remediate polluted environments, including wastewater, sludge, sediment, and soil.In BESs,redox reactions occur on electrodes with electroactive bacteria, which convert pollutants into low-polluting or nonpolluting substances. With BESs being a promising technology in the remediation field, the decontamination mechanisms and applications in soil conducted by BESs have attracted much attention. Therefore,to better understand the research progress of BESs,this paper mainly summarizes the mechanism of different classified BESs.The applications of microbial fuel cells(MFCs)in four pollutants(petroleum, heavy metals, pesticides, antibiotics)and the possible applications of microbial electrolysis cells(MECs)in soil are discussed. The main problems in BESs and possible future development directions are also evaluated.

文摘This paper presents the development of a new remediation technology for contaminated sandy soil using humic acid (HA). These results suggest that the organic-inorganic complex—such as sandy soils coated with humic substances—is important as a metal reservoir in the environment.

文摘It is generally known that soil pollution poses a terrible hazard to the environment, but the present techniques of contaminated soil remediation cannot control this growing threat. We found that the permeability coefficient was significantly increased by the freezing-thawing action, enabling the DNAPL contaminants to be extracted selectively and effectively.

文摘This paper discussed the optimization of conditions for remediation of crude oil-polluted soil based on pot experiment by applying reed-specific degrading bacteria, and using response surfaces methodology. The results can provide a basis for the technical development of plant-microorganism combined bioremediation of crude oil-polluted soil.

文摘Soil contaminated with typical heavy metals (Pb,Cd,Cu,and Zn) was remedied by using the polymeric aluminum salt coagulants including polyaluminum chloride (PAC) and polyaluminum sulfate (PAS).The remediation efficiencies are influenced by reaction time, water amount, and dosage of remediation agent. The optimal remediation conditions are as follows:6 h of reaction time,1 kg/kg of water addition amount, and 0.25 kg/kg of remediation agent dosage. After PAC addition, the remediation efficiencies of diethylenetriamine-pentaacetic acid (DTPA)-extractable Pb,Cd,Cu,and Zn reach 88.3%,85.1%,85.4%,and 73.7%,respectively;and those for PAS are 89.7%,88.7%,83.5%,and 72.6%,respectively.The main remediation mechanism of the polymeric aluminum salt may contribute to the ionization and hydrolysis of PAC and PAS.H + released from ionization of polymeric aluminum salt can cause the leaching of heavy metals, while the multinuclear complex produced from hydrolysis may result in the immobilization of heavy metals. For PAC,the immobilization of heavy metals is the main remediation process. For PAS,both leaching and immobilization are involved in the remediation process of heavy metals.

文摘Phosphate is widely used to immobilize cadmium(Cd)and lead(Pb)in soils through the insoluble metal phosphate precipitation. However,an increase in the phosphorus content of the environment can cause new pollution. In this study, five slow-release phosphate amendments(SRPAs)were synthesized and their characteristics including BET,SEM,FTIR,swelling ratio, and thephosphorus release were determined. The results show that SRPA was a sphere with a network structure with a specific surface area of 5 to 7.18 m^(2)/g andcontained phosphate, hydroxyl, carboxyl and other functional groups.Among five SRPAs,S3 sample showed good performance for phosphate release.Phosphate release from SRPA was well fitted with Ritger-Peppas model with constant n between 0.45 and 0.85,indicating that the phosphate release was in accordance with non-Fickian diffusion. As compared with monocalcium phosphate(MCP),SRPA application led to a lower concentration of water-soluble phosphorus in the soil sample and higher remediation efficiencies of Cd and Pb.The remediation efficiencies of water-soluble Cd and Pb in soil with SRPA were 97.1%and 97.9%,respectively.The remediation efficiencies of bioavailable Cd and Pb were 71.85%and 76.47%,respectively.The results of Tessier extraction showed that the exchangeable and carbonatebound fractions of Cd and Pb in the soil sample after SRPA application significantly reduced, while the residual fraction increased, indicating the stability of heavy metals increased.
