Orthogonal Time Frequency and Space(OTFS) modulation is expected to provide high-speed and ultra-reliable communications for emerging mobile applications, including low-orbit satellite communications. Using the Doppler frequency for positioning is a promising research direction on communication and navigation integration. To tackle the high Doppler frequency and low signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) in satellite communication, this paper proposes a Red and Blue Frequency Shift Discriminator(RBFSD) based on the pseudo-noise(PN) sequence.The paper derives that the cross-correlation function on the Doppler domain exhibits the characteristic of a Sinc function. Therefore, it applies modulation onto the Delay-Doppler domain using PN sequence and adjusts Doppler frequency estimation by red-shifting or blue-shifting. Simulation results show that the performance of Doppler frequency estimation is close to the Cramér-Rao Lower Bound when the SNR is greater than -15dB. The proposed algorithm is about 1/D times less complex than the existing PN pilot sequence algorithm, where D is the resolution of the fractional Doppler. 展开更多

Orthogonal time-frequency space(OTFS),which exhibits beneficial advantages in high-mobility scenarios,has been considered as a promising technology in future wireless communication systems.In this paper,a universal model for OTFS systems with generalized waveform has been developed.Furthermore,the average bit error probability(ABEP)upper bounds of the optimal maximum likelihood(ML)detector are first derived for OTFS systems with generalized waveforms.Specifically,for OTFS systems with the ideal waveform,we elicit the ABEP bound by recombining the transmitted signal and the received signal.For OTFS systems with practical waveforms,a universal ABEP upper bound expression is derived using moment-generating function(MGF),which is further extended to MIMO-OTFS systems.Numerical results validate that our theoretical ABEP upper bounds are concur with the simulation performance achieved by ML detectors. 展开更多

In this paper,we design a spatial modulation based orthogonal time frequency space(SMOTFS)system to achieve improved transmission reliability and meet the high transmission rate and highspeed demands of future mobile communications,which fully utilizes the characteristics of spatial modulation(SM)and orthogonal time frequency space(OTFS)transmission.The detailed system design and signal processing of the SM-OTFS system have been presented.The closed-form expressions of the average symbol error rate(ASER)and average bit error rate(ABER)of the SM-OTFS system have been derived over the delay-Doppler channel with the help of the union bounding technique and moment-generating function(MGF).Meanwhile,the system complexity has been evaluated.Numerical results verify the correctness of the theoretical ASER and ABER analysis of the SM-OTFS system in the high signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)regions and also show that the SM-OTFS system outperforms the traditional SM based orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(SM-OFDM)system with limited complexity increase under mobile conditions,especially in high mobility scenarios. 展开更多

We elaborate a quadratic nonlinear theory of plural interactions of growing space charge wave (SCW) harmonics during the development of the two-stream instability in helical relativistic electron beams. It is found that in helical two-stream electron beams the growth rate of the two-stream instability increases with the beam entrance angle. An SCW with the broad frequency spectrum, in which higher harmonics have higher amplitudes, forms when the frequency of the first SCW harmonic is much less than the critical frequency of the two-stream instability. For helical electron beams the spectrum expands with the increase of the beam entrance angle. Moreover, we obtain that utilizing helical electron beams in multiharmonic two-stream superheterodyne free-electron lasers leads to the improvement of their amplification characteristics, the frequency spectrum broadening in multiharmonic signal generation mode, and the reduction of the overall system dimensions. 展开更多

We compute the tidal relativistic red shifts using a time-domain method and present the numerical results for the National Institute of Metrology (NIM) in Beijing, Laboratoire National de Metrologie et Essais-Systeme de References Temps-Espaee (LNE-SYRTE) in Paris and Physikalisch-Teehnische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig. The differences of the tidal relativistic red shift approach as large as 1.1 × 10^-16 when frequency standards at NIM are compared with those at SYRTE and PTB. The time-varying channel model is established and the norm of detection metric is deduced. The norm is the inherent interference of the time-varying channel, so it can be used as criterion to evaluate the performance of the mapping schemes. Orthogonal time frequency space(OTFS)technique, which modulates data symbols in the delayDoppler(DD) domain, presents a potential solution for supporting reliable information transmission in highmobility vehicular networks. In this paper, we study the issues of DD channel estimation for OTFS in the presence of fractional Doppler. We first propose a channel estimation algorithm with both low complexity and high accuracy based on the unitary approximate message passing(UAMP), which exploits the structured sparsity of the effective DD domain channel using hidden Markov model(HMM). The empirical state evolution(SE) analysis is then leveraged to predict the performance of our proposed algorithm. To refine the hyperparameters in the proposed algorithm,we derive the update criterion for the hyperparameters through the expectation-maximization(EM) algorithm. Finally, Our simulation results demonstrate that our proposed algorithm can achieve a significant gain over various baseline schemes. 展开更多

In deep space exploration,many engineering and scientific requirements require the accuracy of the measured Doppler frequency to be as high as possible.In our paper,we analyze the possible frequency measurement points of the third-order phase-locked loop(PLL)and find a new Doppler measurement strategy.Based on this finding,a Doppler frequency measurement algorithm with significantly higher measurement accuracy is obtained.In the actual data processing,compared with the existing engineering software,the accuracy of frequency of 1 second integration is about 5.5 times higher when using the new algorithm.The improved algorithm is simple and easy to implement.This improvement can be easily combined with other improvement methods of PLL,so that the performance of PLL can be further improved. 展开更多

To establish the algorithm of SAT-TMD system with the wavelet transform(WT),the modal mass participation ratio is proposed to distinguish if the high-rising structure has the characteristic of closely distributed frequencies.A time varying analytical model of high-rising structure such as TV-tower with the SAT-TMD is developed.The proposed new idea is to use WT to identify the dominant frequency of structural response in a segment time,and track its variation as a function of time to retune the SAT-TMD.The effectiveness of SAT-TMD is investigated and it is more robust to change in building stiffness and damping than that of the TMD with a fixed frequency corresponding to a fixed mode frequency of the building.It is proved that SAT-TMD is particularly effective in reducing the response even when the building stiffness is changed by ±15%;whereas the TMD loses its effectiveness under such building stiffness variations. 展开更多

The internet of things(IoT)has been widely considered to be integrated with high-speed railways to improve safety and service.It is important to achieve reliable communication in IoT for railways(IoT-R)under high mobility scenarios and strict energy constraints.Orthogonal time frequency space(OTFS)modulation is a two-dimensional modulation technique that has the potential to overcome the challenges in high Doppler environments.In addition,OTFS can have lower peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR)compared to orthogonal frequency division multiplexing,which is especially important for the application of IoT-R.Therefore,OTFS modulation for IoT-R is investigated in this paper.In order to decrease PAPR of OTFS and promote the application of OTFS modulation in IoT-R,the peak windowing technique is used in this paper.This technique can reduce the PAPR of OTFS by reducing the peak power and does not require multiple iterations.The impacts of different window functions,window sizes and clipping levels on PAPR and bit error rate of OTFS are simulated and discussed.The simulation results show that the peak windowing technique can efficiently reduce the PAPR of OTFS for IoT-R. 展开更多

Unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)have attracted growing research interests in recent years,which can be used as cost-effective aerial platforms to transmit collected data packets to ground access points(APs).Thus,it is crucial to investigate robust airto-ground(A2G)wireless links for high-speed UAVs.However,the A2G wireless link is unstable as it suffers from large path-loss and severe Doppler effect due to the high mobility of UAVs.In order to meet these challenges,we propose an orthogonal time frequency space(OTFS)-based UAV communication system to relief the Doppler effect.Besides,considering that the energy of UAV is limited,we optimize the trajectory planning of UAV to minimize the energy consumption under the constraints of bit error rate(BER)and transmission rate,where the Doppler compensation is taken into account.Simulation results show that the performance of OTFS-based UAV system is superior to orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM)-based UAV systems,which can accomplish transmission tasks over shorter distances with lower energy consumption. 展开更多

To achieve robust communication in high mobility scenarios,an iterative equalization algorithm based on alternating minimization(AM)is proposed for the orthogonal time frequency space(OTFS)system.The algorithm approximates the equalization problem to a convex function optimization problem in the real-valued domain and solves the problem iteratively using the AM algorithm.In the iterative process,the complexity of the proposed algorithm is reduced further based on the study of the cyclic structure and sparse property of the OTFS channel matrix in the delay-Doppler(DD)domain.The new method for OTFS is simulated and verified in a high-speed mobile scenario and the results show that the proposed equalization algorithm has excellent bit error rate performance with low complexity. 展开更多

Diversity reception of multipath Global Navigation Satellte System(GNSS)signals offers a new insight into carrier phase-based high-precision positioning.The focus of this paper is to demonstrate the fading independence between space and frequency diversity GNSS signals.In harsh urban environments,multipath components arrive to the mobile receiver antenna with different phases and Doppler shifts,therefore giving rise to the discontinuity of code and Doppler observations and large tracking errors.In this paper,an empirical model of fading GNSS signals is constructed,including power fluctuations and spread metrics.Based on this model,real BeiDou Navigation Satellite System(BDS)signals from two GNSS dual-frequency antennas are characterized,at both information and signal level.The block processing algorithm is utilized for signal investigation.Results show that:(1)a high proportion of asynchronous loss-of-lock(around 16%)is experienced by observations of diversity signals;and(2)power fluctuations of fading signals are uncorrelated in frequency separated branches unconditionally,yet for space diversity signals the independency exists in dynamic fading channels only.The results above corroborate the significant potential gain of diversity reception,and could be further implemented in researches of diversity combined GNSS parameter estimation in dense fading conditions. 展开更多

Orthogonal time frequency space(OTFS)modulation has been widely considered for high-mobility scenarios.Satellite-to-ground communications have recently received much attention as a typical high-mobility scenario and face great challenges due to the high Doppler shift.To enable reliable communications and high spectral efficiency in satellite mobile communications,we evaluate OTFS modulation performance for geostationary Earth orbit and low Earth orbit satellite-to-ground channels at sub-6-GHz and millimeter-wave bands in both lineof-sight and non-line-of-sight cases.The minimum mean squared error with successive detection(MMSE-SD)is used to improve the bit error rate performance.The adaptability of OTFS and the signal detection technologies in satellite-to-ground channels are analyzed.Simulation results confirm the feasibility of applying OTFS modulation to satellite-to-ground communications with high mobility.Because full diversity in the delay-Doppler domain can be explored,different terminal movement velocities do not have a significant impact on the performance of OTFS modulation,and OTFS modulation can achieve better performance compared with classical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing in satellite-to-ground channels.It is found that MMSE-SD can improve the performance of OTFS modulation compared with an MMSE equalizer. 展开更多
