The theory is based on the averaged model (which assumes that the frequency of wingbeat is sufficiently higher than that of the body motion, so that the flapping wings' degrees of freedom relative to the body can be dropped and the wings can be replaced by wingbeat-cycle-average forces and moments); the simulation solves the complete equations of motion coupled with the Navier-Stokes equations. Comparison between the theory and the simulation provides a test to the validity of the assumptions in the theory. One of the insects is a model dronefly which has relatively high wingbeat frequency (164 Hz) and the other is a model hawkmoth which has relatively low wingbeat frequency (26 Hz). The results show that the averaged model is valid for the hawkmoth as well as for the dronefly. Since the wingbeat frequency of the hawkmoth is relatively low (the characteristic times of the natural modes of motion of the body divided by wingbeat period are relatively large) compared with many other insects, that the theory based on the averaged model is valid for the hawkmoth means that it could be valid for many insects.展开更多

In order to perform thorough and systematic research regarding coal-bed wellbore stability problems, a new discrete element model which fully considers the features of cleat coal-beds is established based on the Kirsch equation. With this model, the safe pipe tripping speed, drilling fluid density window and coal- bed collapse/fracture pressure are determined; in addition, the relationships between pipe tripping speed and pipe size, cleat size, etc. and wellbore stability are analyzed in the coal-bed drilling and pipe tripping processes. The case studies show the following results: the wellbore collapses (collapse pressure: 4.33 MPa) or fractures (fracture pressure: 12.7 MPa) in certain directions as a result of swab or surge pressure when the pipe tripping speed is higher than a certain value; the cleat face size has a great influence on wellbore stability, and if the drilling fluid pressure is too low, the wellbore is prone to collapse when the ratio of the face cleat size to butt cleat size is reduced; however, if the drilling fluid pressure is high enough, the butt cleat size has no influence on the wellbore fracture; the factors influencing coal-bed stability include the movement length, pipe size, borehole size.展开更多

Its combined string stability condition can be obtained through the method of the ring-road based string stability analysis. However, the partial string stability about traffic fluctuation propagated backward or forward was neglected, which will be analyzed in detail in this work by the method of transfer function and its H∞ norm from the viewpoint of control theory. Then, through comparing the conditions of combined and partial string stabilities, their relationships can make traffic flow be divided into three distinguishable regions, displaying various combined and partial string stability performance. Finally, the numerical experiments verify the theoretical results and find that the final displaying string stability or instability performance results from the accumulated and offset effects of traffic fluctuations propagated from different directions.展开更多

Then, the improved averaged model, which covers both the switching frequency and the leakage inductance, is established, and the effects of these two parameters on the slow-scale stability in the system are analyzed. The stability condition of the model is obtained by using the linear stability theory. The modified Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation is constructed and solved, and three types of traffic flow in the headway-sensitivity space, namely stable, metastable and unstable ones, are classified. Both the analytical and simu- lation results show that anxiety about lane changing does indeed have an influence on driving behavior and that a consideration of lane changing probability in the car-following model could stabilize traffic flows. The accurate prediction of this defor- mation has a vital importance for the successful implementation of mining techniques. These methods have proven very important as a way to excavate coal resources from under buildings, railways, or water bodies. Elastic and visco-elastic theory are employed with a Maxwell model to formulate an analytic solution for displacement of coal pillars in room and pillar mine. These results show that the visco-elastic solution adequately predicts the coal pillar deformation over time. We conclude that the visco-elastic solution can predict the coal pillar and roadway displacement from the measured geological parameters of the conditions in situ. Furthermore, this method would be useful for mine design, coal pillar support optimization, ground subsidence prediction, and coal pillar stability analysis.展开更多

In this work, a stability condition is used to close turbulence. Specifically, we regard single-phase flow as a mixture of turbulent and non-turbulent fluids, separating the structure of turbulence. Subsequently, according to the picture of the turbulent eddy cascade, the energy contained in turbulent flow is decomposed into different parts and then quantified. A turbulence stability condition, similar to the principle of the energy-minimization multi-scale (EMMS) model for gas-solid systems, is formulated to close the dynamic constraint equa- tions of turbulence, allowing the inhomogeneous structural parameters of turbulence to be optimized. We name this model as the "EMMS-based turbulence model", and use it to construct the corresponding turbulent viscosity coefficient. To validate the EMMS-based turbulence model, it is used to simulate two classical benchmark problems, lid-driven cavity flow and turbulent flow with forced convection in an empty room, The numerical results show that the EMMS-hased turbulence model improves the accuracy of turbulence modeling due to it considers the principle of compromise in competition between viscosity and inertia.展开更多

The corresponding thermodynamic model of a waxy crude oil pipeline transportation system was built, and then, the excess entropy production expression was proposed. Furthermore, the stability criterion model of the pipeline transportation system was established on the basis of Lyapounov stability theory. Taking the oil pipeline in Daqing oilfield as an example, based on the four parameters of out-station temperature, out-station pressure, flow rate and water content, the stable and unstable regions of the system were divided, and the formation mechanisms of the two different regions were analyzed. The experimental loop device of wax deposition rate was designed, and then, the wax deposition rate under the four parameters was measured. The results showed that the stable region of the wax deposition rate fluctuation was basically in accordance with the stability region analyzed by the criterion model established in this paper, which proved that the stability criterion model was feasible for analyzing the stability of the waxy crude oil pipeline transportation process.展开更多

It can be shown that under some assumptions the solution of unsteady flow field consists of pressure wave which propagates upstream or downstream, vortex wave and entropy wave convected with the mean flow speed. By further using the mode-matching technique and applying the conservation law and conditions reflecting the loss characteristics of a compressor in the inlet and outlet of the rotor or stator blade rows, a group of homogeneous equations can be obtained from which the stability equation can be derived. Based on the analysis of the unsteady phenomenon caused by casing treatments, the function of casing treatments has been modeled by a wall impedance condition which has been included in the stability model through the eigenvalues and the corresponding eigenfunctions of the system. Besides, the effect of shock waves in cascade channel on the stability prediction is also considered in the stall inception model. Finally, some numerical analysis and experimental investigation are also conducted with emphasis on the mutual comparison.展开更多

These methods have proven very important as a way to excavate coal resources from under buildings, railways, or water bodies. Elastic and visco-elastic theory are employed with a Maxwell model to formulate an analytic solution for displacement of coal pillars in room and pillar mine. We conclude that the visco-elastic solution can predict the coal pillar and roadway displacement from the measured geological parameters of the conditions in situ. 文摘The closure problem of turbulence is still a challenging issue in turbulence modeling. To validate the EMMS-based turbulence model, it is used to simulate two classical benchmark problems, lid-driven cavity flow and turbulent flow with forced convection in an empty room, The numerical results show that the EMMS-hased turbulence model improves the accuracy of turbulence modeling due to it considers the principle of compromise in competition between viscosity and inertia.
文摘The present paper discusses the effects of small plants on the dump mass reinforcement and slope stability. The roots of smaller plants(such as grasses and shrubs)do not go deep. However, they stabilize the slope by binding the upper layer of dump slope.Shear strength of the dump mass with and without root reinforcement is determined by laboratory shear box instrument. The increased cohesion(apparent cohesion)of upper layer of the dump mass due to plants is determined by fabricated shear box.The kinetic behavior of the dump has been investigated using the FLAC software. The factor of safety has been calculated in order to determine the possible effect of small plants on the stability of the dump slope. It is observed that the small plants do not significantly improve the factor of safety(FOS)of slope. However,it could be useful for early stabilization. The grasses quickly bind the upper surface, whereas shrubs too immensely strengthen the stability of the dump in the initial stage.

文摘Based on the theory of non-equilibrium thermodynamics, considering the dynamic effect of molecular diffusion and the change in thermodynamic parameters caused by wax precipitation, the phenomenological relations of different thermodynamic "force" and "flow" interactions were derived. The results showed that the stable region of the wax deposition rate fluctuation was basically in accordance with the stability region analyzed by the criterion model established in this paper, which proved that the stability criterion model was feasible for analyzing the stability of the waxy crude oil pipeline transportation process.

文摘A stall inception model for transonic fan/compressors is presented in this paper. Finally, some numerical analysis and experimental investigation are also conducted with emphasis on the mutual comparison.

文摘Debris flow is one of the most destructive water related mass movements that affects the development of mountain terrains.A reliable assessment of debris flow susceptibility requires adequate data, but in most developing countries like India, there is a dearth of such extensive scientific records. This study presents a novel approach for assessing debris flow using the analytical network process(ANP)in data insufficient regions.A stretch of hill road between Kumburvayal and Vadakaunchi along the Kodaikkanal-Palani Traffic Corridor(M171)was considered for this study.Five significant factors including the nature of slope forming materials, hydraulic conductivity, slope, vegetation, and drainage density were identified from intense field surveys and inspections in order to assess the susceptibility of the terrain to debris flow. This model endorsed the interdependencies between the selected factors. The resulting debris flow susceptibility map delineated regions highly prone to debris flow occurrences, which constituted nearly 23%of the selected road stretch.
