We theoretically investigate a cooling scheme assisted by a quantum well(QW)and coherent feedback within a hybrid optomechanical system.Although the exciton mode in the QW and the mechanical resonator(MR)are initially uncoupled,their interaction via the microcavity field leads to an indirect exciton-mode–mechanical-mode coupling.The coherent feedback loop is applied by feeding back a fraction of the output field of the cavity through a controllable beam splitter to the cavity’s input mirror.It is shown that the cooling capability is enhanced by effectively suppressing the Stokes process through coupling with the QW.Furthermore,the effect of the anti-Stokes process is enhanced through the application of the coherent feedback loop.This particular system configuration enables cooling of the mechanical resonator even in the unresolved sideband regime(USR).This study has some important guiding significance in the field of quantum information processing. 展开更多

The aim of the present study is to explore how native Chinese trainee teachers reflect on their usages of oral corrective feedback in class and what their actual teaching practices are in Chinese as a second language(CSL)classroom.To this end,a mixed-methods approach was adopted in this study,including the questionnaire to explore teachers’perceptions as well as classroom observation to understand teachers’pedagogical practices during class.Fifteen trainee teachers from the same teacher training program in a university in China were identified and recruited to help complete the current research.The present study indicates that in the CSL context,teachers play an essential role in the language classroom and serve as the main resource of classroom feedback.When comparing trainee teachers’stated beliefs to their teaching practices,some similarities could be identified between them,however,clear divergence was also noticeable in the present study.Compared to the previous studies on oral corrective feedback in ESL and EFL contexts,most of the findings in the current study could correspond to those outcomes.The implication emphasizes the importance of offering more support to trainee teachers to help them deal with the complex classroom context such as through teacher training programs.Further investigations on students’perceptions of oral corrective feedback in class would also contribute to the understanding of oral corrective feedback in the CSL context. 展开更多

Pure State Feedback Switching Control Based on the Online Estimated State for Stochastic Open Quantum Systems

For the n-qubit stochastic open quantum systems,based on the Lyapunov stability theorem and LaSalle’s invariant set principle,a pure state switching control based on on-line estimated state feedback(short for OQST-SFC)is proposed to realize the state transition the pure state of the target state including eigenstate and superposition state.The proposed switching control consists of a constant control and a control law designed based on the Lyapunov method,in which the Lyapunov function is the state distance of the system.The constant control is used to drive the system state from an initial state to the convergence domain only containing the target state,and a Lyapunov-based control is used to make the state enter the convergence domain and then continue to converge to the target state.At the same time,the continuous weak measurement of quantum system and the quantum state tomography method based on the on-line alternating direction multiplier(QST-OADM)are used to obtain the system information and estimate the quantum state which is used as the input of the quantum system controller.Then,the pure state feedback switching control method based on the on-line estimated state feedback is realized in an n-qubit stochastic open quantum system.The complete derivation process of n-qubit QST-OADM algorithm is given;Through strict theoretical proof and analysis,the convergence conditions to ensure any initial state of the quantum system to converge the target pure state are given.The proposed control method is applied to a 2-qubit stochastic open quantum system for numerical simulation experiments.Four possible different position cases between the initial estimated state and that of the controlled system are studied and discussed,and the performances of the state transition under the corresponding cases are analyzed. 展开更多

Precisely estimating the state of health(SOH)of lithium-ion batteries is essential for battery management systems(BMS),as it plays a key role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of battery systems.However,current SOH estimation methods often overlook the valuable temperature information that can effectively characterize battery aging during capacity degradation.Additionally,the Elman neural network,which is commonly employed for SOH estimation,exhibits several drawbacks,including slow training speed,a tendency to become trapped in local minima,and the initialization of weights and thresholds using pseudo-random numbers,leading to unstable model performance.To address these issues,this study addresses the challenge of precise and effective SOH detection by proposing a method for estimating the SOH of lithium-ion batteries based on differential thermal voltammetry(DTV)and an SSA-Elman neural network.Firstly,two health features(HFs)considering temperature factors and battery voltage are extracted fromthe differential thermal voltammetry curves and incremental capacity curves.Next,the Sparrow Search Algorithm(SSA)is employed to optimize the initial weights and thresholds of the Elman neural network,forming the SSA-Elman neural network model.To validate the performance,various neural networks,including the proposed SSA-Elman network,are tested using the Oxford battery aging dataset.The experimental results demonstrate that the method developed in this study achieves superior accuracy and robustness,with a mean absolute error(MAE)of less than 0.9%and a rootmean square error(RMSE)below 1.4%. 展开更多

Background: Undergoing ultrasound scanning (USS) during the first trimester of pregnancy is highly imperative for expecting mothers, as it supports the early detection of any malformations, identifying the fetal number, fetal growth, fetal sex, and calculation of delivery. Previous studies have shown that undergoing such prenatal screening procedures could reduce the antenatal anxiety levels of expectant mothers. The present study aimed to explore the impact of first-trimester ultrasound scanning towards the antenatal anxiety and identify the predictors of antenatal anxiety among expectant mothers in the first trimester. Methods: A repeated measure design study was conducted in Maternity Clinics of University Hospital KDU, Ninewells Care Hospital and Navy General Hospital over 4 months with one hundred and fifteen (n = 115) expectant mothers. Participants completed a general information sheet first and State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) (Spielberger et al., 1970) was administered before and after undergoing the USS. Results: Mean age of the participants was 28.84 ± 3.68. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank test showed that there is a significant reduction of participants’ antenatal anxiety levels following the USS z = −5.658, p Conclusions: Findings suggest that undergoing the first trimester USS significantly reduces the antenatal state anxiety and partner’s support is an important factor in reducing the antenatal anxiety experienced by expectant mothers in the first trimester. Future studies can focus on how USS can contribute to alleviating antenatal anxiety in second and third trimesters. 展开更多

We study the topological states(TSs)of all-dielectric honeycomb valley photonic crystals(VPCs).Breaking the space inversion symmetry of the honeycomb lattice by varying the filling ratio of materials for circular ring dielectric columns in the unit cell,which triggers topological phase transitions and thus achieves topological edge states(TESs)and topological corner states(TCSs).The results demonstrate that this structure has efficient photon transmission characteristics and anti-scattering robustness.In particular,we have found that changing the type of edge splicing between VPCs with different topological properties produces a change in the frequency of TCSs,and then based on this phenomenon,we have used a new method of adjusting only the type of edge splicing of the structure to design a novel TCSs combiner that can integrate four TCSs with different frequencies.This work not only expands the variety and number of unexplored TCSs that may exist in a fixed photonic band gap and can be rationalized to be selectively excited in the fixed configuration.Our study provides a feasible pathway for the design of integrated optical devices in which multiple TSs coexist in a single photonic system. 展开更多

Background Haptic feedback plays a crucial role in virtual reality(VR)interaction,helping to improve the precision of user operation and enhancing the immersion of the user experience.Instrumental haptic feedback in virtual environments is primarily realized using grounded force or vibration feedback devices.However,improvements are required in terms of the active space and feedback realism.Methods We propose a lightweight and flexible haptic feedback glove that can haptically render objects in VR environments via kinesthetic and vibration feedback,thereby enabling users to enjoy a rich virtual piano-playing experience.The kinesthetic feedback of the glove relies on a cable-pulling mechanism that rotates the mechanism and pulls the two cables connected to it,thereby changing the amount of force generated to simulate the hardness or softness of the object.Vibration feedback is provided by small vibration motors embedded in the bottom of the fingertips of the glove.We designed a piano-playing scenario in the virtual environment and conducted user tests.The evaluation metrics were clarity,realism,enjoyment,and satisfaction.Results A total of 14 subjects participated in the test,and the results showed that our proposed glove scored significantly higher on the four evaluation metrics than the nofeedback and vibration feedback methods.Conclusions Our proposed glove significantly enhances the user experience when interacting with virtual objects. 展开更多

Using a corpus-based approach, the analysis covers the semantic and syntactic features of “V + Dào” constructions and their event integration patterns. The findings highlight the distribution of agency, animacy, and support relations in state change events, emphasizing the complex interaction of internal and external event integrations and their correlation with the conceptual primitives of change and transition. This study examined gender differences in modal choice among residents of coastal communities of Yenagoa metropolis in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The Four-Step model of transportation planning and modal choice provided the theoretical basis for this study. A survey research design involving a stratified sampling technique was adopted. The descriptives on transport modes, amount and time spent revealed that 10 (76.9%) males and 3 (23.1%) females preferred bicycle as means of transportation, 7 (58.3%) males and 5 (41.7%) females preferred motorcycle, while a significant proportion 90 (53.9%) males and 77 (46.1%) females preferred tricycle, 80 (63.0%) males and 47 (37.0%) females preferred cars/taxis, and 12 (46.2%) males and 14 (53.8%) females preferred mass transit bus. However, 14 (46.7%) males and 16 (53.3%) females in marshy terrain and coastal locations preferred canoes and boats. The result of the logistic regression model revealed that gender modal preference is more likely to be influenced by mode of transportation with a beta weight of 1.140, safety considerations 1.139, ownership of transport 1.135 and distance to place of work 1.073. Hence, this study recommends that a combination of these factors should be incorporated into transport planning to achieve effective transport planning and sustainable development in the Yenagoa metropolis. 展开更多

Phenological control of vegetation biophysical feedbacks to the regional climate

Phenology shifts influence regional climate by altering energy,and water fluxes through biophysical processes.However,a quantitative understanding of the phenological control on vegetation’s biophysical feedbacks to re gional climate remains elusive.Using long-term remote sensing observations and Weather Research and Fore casting(WRF)model simulations,we investigated vegetation phenology changes from 2003 to 2020 and quan tified their biophysical controls on the regional climate in Northeast China.Our findings elucidated that earlier green-up contributed to a prolonged growing season in forests,while advanced green-up and delayed dormancy extended the growing season in croplands.This prolonged presence and increased maximum green cover in tensified climate-vegetation interactions,resulting in more significant surface cooling in croplands compared to forests.Surface cooling from forest phenology changes was prominent during May’s green-up(-0.53±0.07°C),while crop phenology changes induced cooling throughout the growing season,particularly in June(-0.47±0.15°C),July(-0.48±0.11°C),and September(-0.28±0.09°C).Furthermore,we unraveled the contributions of different biophysical pathways to temperature feedback using a two-resistance attribution model,with aero dynamic resistance emerging as the dominant factor.Crucially,our findings underscored that the land surface temperature(LST)sensitivity,exhibited substantially higher values in croplands rather than temperate forests.These strong sensitivities,coupled with the projected continuation of phenology shifts,portend further growing season cooling in croplands.These findings contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the intricate feedback mechanisms between vegetation phenology and surface temperature,emphasizing the significance of vegetation phenology dynamics in shaping regional climate pattern and seasonality. 展开更多

Implementing quantum wireless multi-hop network communication is essential to improve the global quantum network system. In this paper, we employ eight-level GHZ states as quantum channels to realize multi-hop quantum communication, and utilize the logical relationship between the measurements of each node to derive the unitary operation performed by the end node. The hierarchical simultaneous entanglement switching(HSES) method is adopted, resulting in a significant reduction in the consumption of classical information compared to multi-hop quantum teleportation(QT)based on general simultaneous entanglement switching(SES). In addition, the proposed protocol is simulated on the IBM Quantum Experiment platform(IBM QE). Then, the data obtained from the experiment are analyzed using quantum state tomography, which verifies the protocol's good fidelity and accuracy. Finally, by calculating fidelity, we analyze the impact of four different types of noise(phase-damping, amplitude-damping, phase-flip and bit-flip) in this protocol. 展开更多

In the realm of virtual reality(VR),haptic feedback is integral to enhance the immersive experience;yet,existing wearable devices predominantly rely on skin contact feedback,lacking options for compact and non-contact breeze-sense feedback.Herein,we propose a compact and non-contact working model piezoelectret actuator for providing a gentle and safe breeze sensation.This easy-fabricated and flexible breeze-sense generator with thickness around 1 mm generates air flow pressure up to~163 Pa,which is significantly sensed by human skin.In a typical demonstration,the breeze-sense generators array showcases its versatility by employing multiple coded modes for non-contact information transmitting.The thin thinness and good flexibility facilitate seamless integration with wearable VR setups,and the wearable arrays empower volunteers to precisely perceive the continuous and sudden breeze senses in the virtual environments.This work is expected to inspire developing new haptic feedback devices that play pivotal roles in human-machine interfaces for VR applications. 展开更多

Quantum phase estimation based on Gaussian states plays a crucial role in many application fields.In this paper,we study the precision bound for the scheme using two-mode squeezed Gaussian states.The quantum Fisher information is calculated and its maximization is used to determine the optimal parameters.We find that two single-mode squeezed vacuum states are the optimal Gaussian inputs for a fixed two-mode squeezing process.The corresponding precision bound is sub-Heisenberg-limited and scales as N^(-1)/2.For practical purposes,we consider the effects originating from photon loss.The precision bound can still outperform the shot-noise limit when the lossy rate is below 0.4.Our work may demonstrate a significant and promising step towards practical quantum metrology. 展开更多

Coronary artery disease is a highly lethal cardiovascular condition,making early diagnosis crucial for patients.Echocardiograph is employed to identify coronary heart disease(CHD).However,due to issues such as fuzzy object boundaries,complex tissue structures,and motion artifacts in ultrasound images,it is challenging to detect CHD accurately.This paper proposes an improved Transformer model based on the Feedback Self-Attention Mechanism(FSAM)for classification of ultrasound images.The model enhances attention weights,making it easier to capture complex features.Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves high levels of accuracy,recall,precision,F1 score,and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(72.3%,79.5%,82.0%,81.0%,and 0.73%,respectively).The proposed model was compared with widely used models,including convolutional neural network and visual Transformer model,and the results show that our model outperforms others in the above evaluation metrics.In conclusion,the proposed model provides a promising approach for diagnosing CHD using echocardiogram. 展开更多

Inspired by molecular catalysts,researchers developed atomically precise nitrogen-coordinated single or dual metal sites imbedded in graphitized carbon(M-N-C)to fully utilize metallic sites for 02activation.These catalysts performed remarkably well in the electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)due to their distinct coordination and electrical structures,Nonetheless,their maximum efficacy in practical applications has yet to be achieved.This agenda identifies tailoring the coordination environment,spin states,intersite distance,and metal-metal interaction as innovative approaches to regulate the ORR performance of these catalysts.However,it is necessary to undertake a precise assessment of these methodologies and the knowledge obtained to be implemented in the design of future M-N-C catalysts for ORR.Therefore,this review aims to analyze recent progress in M-N-C ORR catalysts,emphasizing their innovative engineering with aspects such as alteration in intersite distance,metal-metal interaction,coordination environment,and spin states.Additionally,we critically discuss how to logically monitor the atomic structure,local coordination,spin,and electronic states of M-N-C catalysts to modulate their ORR activity.We have also highlighted the challenges associated with M-N-C catalysts and proposed suggestions for their future design and fabrication. 展开更多

A thermodynamically complete multi-phase equation of state(EOS)applicable to both dense and porous metals at wide ranges of temperature and pressure is constructed.A standard three-term decomposition of the Helmholtz free energy as a function of specific volume and temperature is presented,where the cold component models both compression and expansion states,the thermal ion component introduces the Debye approximation and melting entropy,and the thermal electron component employs the Thomas-Fermi-Kirzhnits(TFK)model.The porosity of materials is considered by introducing the dynamic porosity coefficientαand the constitutive P-αrelation,connecting the thermodynamic properties between dense and porous systems,allowing for an accurate description of the volume decrease caused by void collapse while maintaining the quasi-static thermodynamic properties of porous systems identical to the dense ones.These models enable the EOS applicable and robust at wide ranges of temperature,pressure and porosity.A systematic evaluation of the new EOS is conducted with aluminum(Al)as an example.300 K isotherm,shock Hugoniot,as well as melting curves of both dense and porous Al are calculated,which shows great agreements with experimental data and validates the effectiveness of the models and the accuracy of parameterizations.Notably,it is for the first time Hugoniot P-σcurves up to 10~6 GPa and shock melting behaviors of porous Al are derived from analytical EOS models,which predict much lower compression limit and shock melting temperatures than those of dense Al. 展开更多

Graphene platelets(GPLs)-reinforced metal foam structures enhance the mechanical properties while maintaining the lightweight characteristics of metal foams.Further bonding piezoelectric actuator and sensor layers on the surfaces of GPLs-reinforced metal foam beams enables active vibration control,greatly expanding their applications in the aerospace industry.For the first time,this paper investigates the vibration characteristics and active vibration control of GPLs-reinforced metal foam beams with surfacebonded piezoelectric layers.The constant velocity feedback scheme is used to design the closed-loop controller including piezoelectric actuators and sensors.The effects of the GPLs on the linear and nonlinear free vibrations of the beams are numerically studied.The Newmark-βmethod combined with Newton's iteration technique is used to calculate the nonlinear responses of the beams under different load forms including harmonic loads,impact loads,and moving loads.Additionally,special attention is given to the vibration reduction performance of the velocity feedback control on the responses of the beam. 展开更多
