Shield machines are currently the main tool for underground tunnel construction. Due to the complexity and variability of the underground construction environment, it is necessary to accurately identify the ground in real-time during the tunnel construction process to match and adjust the tunnel parameters according to the geological conditions to ensure construction safety. Compared with the traditional method of stratum identifcation based on staged drilling sampling, the real-time stratum identifcation method based on construction data has the advantages of low cost and high precision. Due to the huge amount of sensor data of the ultra-large diameter mud-water balance shield machine, in order to balance the identifcation time and recognition accuracy of the formation, it is necessary to screen the multivariate data features collected by hundreds of sensors. In response to this problem, this paper proposes a voting-based feature extraction method (VFS), which integrates multiple feature extraction algorithms FSM, and the frequency of each feature in all feature extraction algorithms is the basis for voting. At the same time, in order to verify the wide applicability of the method, several commonly used classifcation models are used to train and test the obtained efective feature data, and the model accuracy and recognition time are used as evaluation indicators, and the classifcation with the best combination with VFS is obtained. The experimental results of shield machine data of 6 diferent geological structures show that the average accuracy of 13 features obtained by VFS combined with diferent classifcation algorithms is 91%;among them, the random forest model takes less time and has the highest recognition accuracy, reaching 93%, showing best compatibility with VFS. Therefore, the VFS algorithm proposed in this paper has high reliability and wide applicability for stratum identifcation in the process of tunnel construction, and can be matched with a variety of classifer algorithms. By combining 13 features selected from shield machine data features with random forest, the identifcation of the construction stratum environment of shield tunnels can be well realized, and further theoretical guidance for underground engineering construction can be provided. 展开更多

Indus basin hosts many significant mineral deposits like gypsum and cement raw materials, gemstones, iron, coal, marble, dimension and construction stones, petroleum and water resources, world class pink salt and other many minerals in different regions which need further exploitation and development. The construction of new water dams in different regions are vital (for availability of cheap electricity), because of available barren and fertile lands and wastage of water as flood. Further the installation of more cement industries in different regions of Indus Basin especially in middle Indus (Sulaiman Range where gypsum, clays and limestones can be available via belt) can increase export to receive more foreign exchange and make local cement cheap for the sustainable development of Pakistan. 31 stratigraphic sequential sections at different sections of Indus basins are presented to know the variation and local stratigraphy. Further here three new titanosaur taxa are being described. Saraikimasoom is based on snout;Gspsaurus, (Maojandino), Nicksaurus and Khanazeem are based on cranial, vertebral and appendicular elements;Balochisaurus, Marisaurus, Pakisaurus, and 3 new genera and species Imrankhanhero zilefatmi, Qaikshaheen masoomniazi and Ikqaumishan smqureshi based on vertebral and appendicular elements;and Sulaimanisaurus and Khetranisaurus based on only caudal vertebrae. Although Pakistani Titanosaurians seem to be proliferated found from one horizon of Vitakri Formation just below the K-Pg boundary they have a wide range of diagnostic features and key elements among titanosaurs which can be used for comparison and phylogenetic analyses with broad updated character data set of titanosaurs. 展开更多

Shaw’s method used to correlate40 sections across the Permo-Triassic boundaryin South China is applied in the paper. Two steps are adopted to get an Integral Compo-site Section(ICS)by synthesizing these data:First,South China is divided into fiveareas and composite section developed for each area. Then the second step, theChangxing composite section is regarded as a composite standard(CSRS)while the ICSis produced by matching the CSRS with composite sections of the other areas.Threebiozones in the Changxingian and two biozones in the Griesbachian can be discerned onthe basis of computing Z values in the ICS.These biozones are marked by the Z values which quantitatively represent their time ranges;therefore, they may increase accuracy ofstratigraphic time correlation. The mass extinction at the end of the Permian is an ab-rupt event that is supported by the relative rate of extinction near the P/T boundary.About90%of invertebrate species died out by the end of the Permian. The duration ofthe mass 展开更多

Sequence boundary is studied in detail in reference to the Permian Guadalupian Lopingian boundary, based on high resolution correlation of conodoot zones. A conceptual synchronous stratigraphic boundary, corresponding to the age of the sequence boundary dated in the conformable portion of the sequence boundary, is defined as the sequence chronostratigraphic boundary (SCB). The sequence boundary is proved to be dual in nature in regards to the synchrony and diachroneity of stratigraphic boundaries. The merits of the sequence boundary in stratigraphic subdivision, correlation and classification are elucidated in comparison with the lithostratigraphic boundary, the biostratigraphic boundary and the traditional approach of the global stratotype section and point (GSSP). By integrating the virtues of the sequence boundary and the GSSP, it is proposed that the GSSP should be established in the conformable portion of the related sequence boundary. The boundary established in light of this approach is defined 展开更多

A quantitative two-dimensional model of sequence stratigraphy is formulated to simulate the development of sequence architecture in sedimentary basins. The model takes into account sea level change, tectonic subsidence, compaction of sediments, flexural isostatic compensation, erosion and sedimentation. It may be used to test sequence stratigraphic model, to analyze the development of sequence architecture and sequence boundaries, and to predict facies distribution in basins. The computer model, combined with backstripping technique, is cali- brated to model the sedimentary filling of the Early Cretaceous Erlian basin and the Tertiary Yinggehai basin. The study shows that the development of high order sequences in the basins was closely related to the multiple stretching and inversion. The development of the progradational sequence set of the Yinghuang Formation in Yinggehai basin formed in synrift period was mainly controlled by a large amount of sediment input high fluctuation of sea level and gradual subsidence of the basin. 展开更多

Four hierarchical cyclothems, superbundlesets, bundlesets, bundles and laminae, have been identified from the Devonian Frasnian-Famennian carbonate strata in Guangxi, South China. Their hierarchical structures, ratio relation ships and sequence in conodont zones are continuous and stable and can be traced across different facies zones and sedi mentary basins. Our data show that hierarchically organized superbundlesets, bundlesets, bundles and laminae correspond to the long eccentricity, eccentricity, obliquity or precession and sub-Milankovitch cycles respectively. Their periods were 400,000, 100,000, 33,333, 16,667 and 8,000-17,000 a, respectively. The ratios of long eccentricity to eccentricity, ec centricity to obliquity, and eccentricity to precession in the Devonian are 1:4, 1:3 and 1:6 respectively. Using these hier archical Milankovitch cyclothems, chronostratigraphical division and correlation can be realized at a resolution of 100 ka or 10 ka at the Frasnian-Famennian transition. The time intervals of the Upper rhenana Zone, linguiformis Zone, and the Lower, Middle and Upper triangularis Zone are 0.6, 0.8, 0.3, 0.3 and 0.3 Ma, respectively. Sea-level changes of the Frasnian-Famennian transition were not coherent and synchronous at the resolution of 100 ka or 10 ka in the basin-slope carbonate sequences of Guangxi, South China. 展开更多

Commercial petroleum traps have been discovered in the Jizhong sub-basin. However, the 3^(rd) and 4^(th) members of the Shahejie Formation in this sub-basin have been poorly explored. These two members, belonging to the Lower Paleogene age, are buried deeply in the depression. Favorable petroleum reservoir conditions exist in such deep intervals of the half-graben due to the presence of different types and extent of deltas and turbidity fans in various areas. In fact, three types of turbidite fans are developed in the sag below the transitional belt on the eastern gentle slope. This work summarized three stratigraphic trap belts, i.e., the steep slope, gentle slope, and sag. On the steep slope, structuralstratigraphic traps with small-scale delta fronts and turbidite sandbodies are well developed. On the gentle slope, hydrocarbons generally accumulate in the large-scale delta front, onlapping beds and those sandbodies adjacent to unconformities. In the sag, petroleum trap models are typically characterized by pinched-out turbidite sandbodies. Stratigraphic traps were easily formed in turbidite fans below the eastern transitional belt. The petroleum traps that have already been discovered or predicted in the study area indicate that stratigraphic traps have favorable petroleum exploration potential in deeply buried areas(depth >5000 m) in a half-graben basin or depression. 展开更多

Deposits of 10 volcanic events of 6 stages have been discovered by the authors after detailed field and lab studies of the Benxi and Taiyuan Formations in Shandong Province and its adjacent regions. They show certain temporal-spatial distribution characteristics. Volcanic fragments were probably derived from two different volcanic sources north and south of the North China Platform, while the magma of the two volcanic sources was probably derived from the lower crust. A new stratigraphic correlation scheme is put forward for the Benxi and Taiyuan Formations in this region on the basis of previous biostratigraphic work with the regionally widespread volcanic event layers as the marker bed for the isochronous stratigraphic correlation on a super-regional scale and in conjunction with the maximum transgressive event layers. 展开更多

The Cenozoic Yanyuan basin is located in the huge Longmenshan—Jinpingshan nappetectonic belt along the eastern margin of the Qinghai—Tibet plateau. The basin is the largest and the best\|preserved intraorogenic basin above 2300m ASL.The basin has deposited different kinds of sediments with 1600m in depth. The early Tertiary strata were first named as Lijiang formation in 1961, and later named as Hongyanzi formation. The later Tertiary strata, the lignite\|bearing strata, were once named as Xigeda formation. Li Yougheng(1978) found some mammal fossils in the strata, so they named it Yanyuan formation. The Hongyanzi Formation which thickness is 1022m can be divided into five members according to the lithologic characters. The first one is mainly made of purplish\|red coarse conglomerates. The composition of gravel mainly consists of limestone and purplish\|red sandstone and marl. The second one consists of sandstone interbedded with conglomerate. The member has three cyclic sequences from conglomerate to sandstone. The composition of gravel of this member is mainly limestone. From bottom to top the degree of sorting and roundness tends to be well. In sandstones or sand lenticules the oblique bedding and trough cross\|bedding can be seen. The third one is the member of sandstone and mudstone. The sandstone is light purple while the mudstone is purplish red. Ripple marks can be seen in the sandstone. The forth one consists of conglomerate interbedded with mudstone, The conglomerate and the sandstone assume three cyclic sequences. The composition of the gravel is chiefly limestone. The fifth one is a member of light purple massive conglomerate. The composition of the gravel is limestone. The imbricate structure can be seen in the conglomerate. The strata belong to later Eocene epoch in accordance with the fossils of mammals, plants and ostracoda in it. 展开更多

Many evidences for gas hydrate bearing sediments had been found in the continental slope of the East China Sea,such as bottom simulating reflections(BSRs),undersea gas springs, pyrite associated with methane leakage, mud diapirs/mud volcanos,bottom-water methane anomalies and so on.In this study, six key stratigraphic interfaces including T_0(seafloor),T_1(LGM,23 kyr B.P.),T_2(2.58 Myr),T_3(5.33 Myr),T_4(11.02 Myr)and T_5(16.12 Myr)were identified, and then five third-order sequences of SQIII1 to SQIII5 were divided.However,T5 in southern continental slope is not found, which shows that the middle-northern Okinawa Trough had begun to rift in the early Miocene, earlier than the southern segment.Four system tracts including lowstand systems tract(LST),transgressive systems tract(TST),highstand systems tract(HST)and falling stage systems tract(FSST)are further divided. The marine erosion interface of 11.02 Myr and regressive unconformity interface of 23 kyr B.P.indicate two large-scale sea level drop events in the research area.Seven typical seismic facies identified in the continental slope are continental shelf-edge deltas, littoral fluvial-delta plains, incised channels or submarine canyons, slope fans, submarine fans or coastal sandbars,littoral-neritic finegrained sediments, mud volcanos and some other geological bodies respectively. The minimum water depth for hydrate occurrence in the Okinawa Trough is 630 m,and the thickness of gas hydrate stability zone in continental slope is between 0 and 590 m.The calculated bottom boundary of hydrate stability zone is slightly deeper than BSRs on the seismic sections. The re-depositional turbidite sand bodies, such as canyon channels, slope fans and submarine fans developed in Quaternary strata, are the predominant hydrate reservoirs.According to developing process, the dynamic accumulation of hydrate systems can be divided into three evolutionary stages including canyon erosion and hydrate stability zone migration stage, sediments destabilizing and methane leakage stage, and channel filling and hydrate re-occurrence stage. 展开更多

It is marked by multiple extreme climate changes that caused alternating global glacial and interglacial intervals. These dramatically changed the sedimentary system, and metal ores and source rocks distributed widely during this period. Therefore, studying the Cryogenian stratigraphic framework and sedimentary basins is important to improve the stratigraphic resolution for metal mineral and hydrocarbon prospecting and exploration in China. This review paper firstly divides three tectonic-stratigraphic regions in China in the Cryogenian, including the tectonic-stratigraphic regions of Great South China, Xingmeng-Tarim, and North China. Secondly, geochronologic data and geological records are combined to clearly depict the Cryogenian sedimentary sequence of continental blocks and micro-continental blocks in different tectonic-stratigraphic regions. The results were used to propose a new comparison scheme of stratigraphy for the Cryogenian in China. Finally, according to differences of sedimentary evolution and tectonic evolvement, sedimentary basins and their lithofacies paleogeography are identified and summarized, respectively. 展开更多

Stratigraphic division and correlation are crucial for the identification of sweet spots and drilling design of shale gas.In this study,a stratigraphic division and correlation was carried out for the Wufeng-Longmaxi Formations in southern China from the prospective of lithostratigraphy, sea level changes, and biostratigraphy using data from seismic investigation, wells, and outcrops. The Wufeng and Longmaxi Formations were respectively divided into four members,Wu 1 and Wu2 for the former and Long 1 and Long 2 for the latter.Of the members,Long 1 was subdivided and its first subdivision(Long 11)was further divided into 4 layers(Long 1^(1)_(1),Long 1^(2)_(1),Long 1^(3)_(1),and Long 1^(4)_(1)).Three eustatic cycles were recognized in the Wufeng-Longmaxi Formations.Cycle I corresponds to the Wufeng Formation with the maximum flooding surface at the top ofWu 1.Cycle II corresponds to Long 1,with the maximum flooding surface at the top of Long 1^(3)_(1).CycleⅢⅢcorresponds to Long 2.Furthermore,4 graptolite biozones(WF1 to WF4)were identified in the Wufeng Formation and 9 graptolite biozones(LM1 to LM9)in the Longmaxi Formation.WF1-2 and WF3-4 correspond to Wu 1 and Wu 2,respectively;and LM1,LM2-4,LM5,LM6,and LM7-9 correspond to Long 1^(1)_(1),Long 1^(2)_(1),Long 1^(3)_(1),Long 1^(4)_(1),and Long 12 and Long 2,respectively.Highquality shales mainly occur in the Wufeng Formation and Long 11.The major intervals that should be investigated with regards to shale gas production include LM1eLM5(10m thick)in the Weiyuan Block and WF1eLM5(20e35m thick)in the Changning Block.Long 1^(1)_(1)is believed to be an optimal target for drilling due to its high TOC content, siliceous content, porosity, microfracture density, and horizontal/vertical permeability ratio. 展开更多

The Benin and Western Nigeria Offshore Basins, which are parts of an extensive basin called the Dahomey (Benin) Embayment, were formed during the Early Cretaceous under similar tectonic conditions and continental sedimentary environments. Based mainly on available lithological, biostratigraphic and paleoenvironmental data, this paper summarizes the stratigraphic succession of theses basins and attempts a comparison of these stratigraphic nomenclatures. The bulk of data shows that sedimentation begins with terrestrial at the base, passes through shallow marine, deep marine (with restrictive bottom circulation) and ends with open deep marine conditions. The stratigraphy of the Offshore Benin Basin was established later and considering lithological and paleontological similarities with formations of various southern Nigeria basins, the stratigraphic chart adopted for this basin was a mixed variant of various Southern Nigerian basins nomenclatures. For the first time, a correlation of stratigraphic charts of each basins and a schematic cross section showing their lithostratigraphic units, especially the Cretaceous-Paleocene interval which is petroliferous, are proposed. The study shows that the nomenclature adopted in Benin Republic must be revised by using type section/locality names for some particular Formations and widely accepted Formations names of Nigeria for the others. This will permit to avoid confusions as it is presently the case for the name “Afowo Formation” representing a Cretaceous sequence in Nigeria and which is use in Benin Republic to distinguish some sediments of Miocene age. Moreover, a High Resolution Biostratigraphy summary (including micropaleontology, nannopaleontology and palynology distributions) relating to each offshore basin is needed for sequences correlations and entire harmonization of the stratigraphic nomenclature of these offshore basins. 展开更多

Affected by the Indosinian movement, the sediments in the main part of South China, Yangtze platform, started to transform from marine to continental during the Middle Triassic. In the meantime, a noticeable paleogeographic and sedimentary facies differentiation occurred in the marginal regions of the platforms and produced completely different lithologic and paleontologic sequences in various paleogeographic gradients and sedimentary facies areas, which brought about the difficulties for the stratigraphic correlation based on the traditional stratigraphies. This paper proposes to use some characteristic environmental events as the markers of the stratigraphic correlation across various paleogeographic sedimentary facies, considering that some distinctive regional environmental events should have affected at the same time on the entire basin or the connected sedimentary regions and produced some closely related sedimentary records in the stratigraphic sequences though the affected intensity and recorded pattern might be different among the regions. The change of violent relative sea level (generally water depth) and the alteration of tectonic activity summarized from the dynamic mechanism of sedimentation are the best markers of environmental events for stratigraphic correlation. Based on the analysis and recognition of some significant environmental events at the typical stratigraphic sequences from various paleogeographic sedimentary facies and combined with the consideration of the variations in expressed form and strength of the events among different paleogeographic gradients and sedimentary facies, the stratigraphic sequences from different sedimentary facies can be easily correlated directly. Furthermore, the evolutionary history of the whole sedimentary basin can be clearly established. 展开更多
