A novel and fast three-dimensional reconstruction method for a Compton camera and its performance in radionuclide imaging is proposed and analyzed in this study. The conical surface sampling back-projection method with scattering angle correction(CSS-BP-SC) can quickly perform the back-projection process of the Compton cone and can be used to precompute the list-mode maximum likelihood expectation maximization(LM-MLEM). A dedicated parallel architecture was designed for the graphics processing unit acceleration of the back-projection and iteration stage of the CSS-BP-SC-based LM-MLEM. The imaging results of the two-point source Monte Carlo(MC) simulation demonstrate that by analyzing the full width at half maximum along the three coordinate axes, the CSS-BP-SC-based LM-MLEM can obtain imaging results comparable to those of the traditional reconstruction algorithm, that is, the simple back-projection-based LM-MLEM. The imaging results of the mouse phantom MC simulation and experiment demonstrate that the reconstruction results obtained by the proposed method sufficiently coincide with the set radioactivity distribution, and the speed increased by more than 664 times compared to the traditional reconstruction algorithm in the mouse phantom experiment. The proposed method will further advance the imaging applications of Compton cameras. 展开更多

Nonlinear response is an important factor affecting the accuracy of three-dimensional image measurement based on the fringe structured light method.A phase compensation algorithm combined with a Hilbert transform is proposed to reduce the phase error caused by the nonlinear response of a digital projector in the three-dimensional measurement system of fringe structured light.According to the analysis of the influence of Gamma distortion on the phase calculation, the algorithm establishes the relationship model between phase error and harmonic coefficient, introduces phase shift to the signal, and keeps the signal amplitude constant while filtering out the DC component. The phase error is converted to the transform domain, and compared with the numeric value in the space domain. The algorithm is combined with a spiral phase function to optimize the Hilbert transform,so as to eliminate external noise, enhance the image quality, and get an accurate phase value.Experimental results show that the proposed method can effectively improve the accuracy and speed of phase measurement.By performing phase error compensation for free-form surface objects, the phase error is reduced by about 26%,and about 27%of the image reconstruction time is saved, which further demonstrates the feasibility and effectiveness of the method. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Few reports have described living foreign bodies in the human body. The current manuscript demonstrates that computed tomography(CT)is an effective tool for accurate preoperative evaluation of living foreign bodies in clinic. The threedimensional(3D)reconstruction technology could clearly display anatomical structures, lesions and adjacent organs, improving diagnostic accuracy and guiding the surgical decision-making process.CASE SUMMARY Herein we describe a 68-year-old man diagnosed with digestive tract perforation and acute peritonitis caused by a foreign body of Monopterus albus. The patient pre-sented to the emergency department with complaints of dull abdominal pain, profuse sweating and a pale complexion during work.A Monopterus albus had entered the patient’s body through the anus two hours ago.During hospitalization, the 3D reconstruction technology revealed a perforation of the middle rectum complicated with acute peritonitis and showed a clear and complete Monopterus albus bone morphology in the abdominal and pelvic cavities, with the Monopterus albus biting the mesentery.Laparoscopic examination detected a large(diameter of about 1.5 cm)perforation in the mid-rectum.It could be seen that a Monopterus albus had completely entered the abdominal cavity and had tightly bitten the mesentery of the small intestine.During the operation, the dead Monopterus albus was taken out.CONCLUSION The current manuscript demonstrates that CT is an effective tool for accurate preoperative evaluation of living foreign bodies in clinic. 展开更多

Assimilation systems absorb both satellite measurements and Argo observations. This assimilation is essential to diagnose and evaluate the contribution from each type of data to the reconstructed analysis, allowing for better configuration of assimilation parameters. To achieve this, two comparative reconstruction schemes were designed under the optimal interpolation framework.Using a static scheme,an in situ-only field of ocean temperature was derived by correcting climatology with only Argo profiles.Through a dynamic scheme,a synthetic field was first derived from only satellite sea surface height and sea surface temperature measurements through vertical projection, and then a combined field was reconstructed by correcting the synthetic field with in situ profiles. For both schemes,a diagnostic iterative method was performed to optimize the background and observation error covariance statics. The root mean square difference(RMSD)of the in situ-only field, synthetic field and combined field were analyzed toward assimilated observations and independent observations, respectively. The rationale behind the distribution of RMSD was discussed using the following diagnostics:(1)The synthetic field has a smaller RMSD within the global mixed layer and extratropical deep waters,as in the Northwest Pacific Ocean;this is controlled by the explained variance of the vertical surface-underwater regression that reflects the ocean upper mixing and interior baroclinicity.(2)The in situ-only field has a smaller RMSD in the tropical upper layer and at midlatitudes;this is determined by the actual noise-to-signal ratio of ocean temperature.(3)The satellite observations make a more significant contribution to the analysis toward independent observations in the extratropics;this is determined by both the geographical feature of the synthetic field RMSD(smaller at depth in the extratropics)and that of the covariance correlation scales(smaller in the extratropics). 展开更多

The three-dimensional(3D)model is of great significance to analyze the performance of nonwovens. However, the existing modelling methods could not reconstruct the 3D structure of nonwovens at low cost.A new method based on deep learning was proposed to reconstruct 3D models of nonwovens from multi-focus images.A convolutional neural network was trained to extract clear fibers from sequence images.Image processing algorithms were used to obtain the radius, the central axis, and depth information of fibers from the extraction results.Based on this information,3D models were built in 3D space.Furthermore,self-developed algorithms optimized the central axis and depth of fibers, which made fibers more realistic and continuous. The method with lower cost could reconstruct 3D models of nonwovens conveniently. 展开更多

Object identification and three-dimensional reconstruction techniques are always attractive research interests in machine vision, virtual reality, augmented reality, and biomedical engineering.Optical computing metasurface,as a two-dimensional artificial design component, has displayed the supernormal character of controlling phase, amplitude, polarization, and frequency distributions of the light beam, capable of performing mathematical operations on the input light field. Here,we propose and demonstrate an all-optical object identification technique based on optical computing metasurface, and apply it to 3D reconstruction.Unlike traditional mechanisms, this scheme reduces memory consumption in the processing of the contour surface extraction. The identification and reconstruction of experimental results from high-contrast and low-contrast objects agree well with the real objects. The exploration of the all-optical object identification and 3D reconstruction techniques provides potential applications of high efficiencies, low consumption, and compact systems. 展开更多

Objective: We constructed 3D-model of ONFH in computer according to three-dimensional computerized tomography (3D-CT) data. We determined the location and volume of necrosis to investigate its clinical efficacy. Method: Totally 92 hips (59 cases) with ONFH (44 males, 15 females) were included, with mean age of 37.5 years (range from 26 to 58). Totally 20 cases (35 hips) were induced by corticosteroid (CTSs), 31 (49 hips) induced by alcohol, 4 (4 hips) induced by trauma and 4 (4 hips) idiopathic. All the hips were categorized into stage ARCO II. Finally diagnosed by MRI, all hips were scanned by CT to acquire data in DICOM format. The images were imported into software to extract 3D-shape of femoral heads, necrotic foci, their volumes and distribution in each quadrant. Deviation of volumes between digital image and biopsy specimen was analyzed by SAS9.1 package. Correlativity between collapse and volume of necrosis under specific pathogeneses was also analyzed. Among the cases necessitating total hip arthroplasty (THA) due to advancing to ARCO III, we randomly selected 8 of them to perform 3D-CT scanning thrice prior to surgical operation. Total femoral heads harvested were torn asunder. Cubic capacity of femoral heads and necrotic foci were hereby measured and compared with those acquired from digital models. Result: Through the digital model, necrotic foci were found mainly locating within the super lateral portion of femoral head, coinciding with those observed in biopsy specimen. Average volumetric ratio of digitally acquired necrosis focus/femoral head in 58 collapsed hips was 36.8%. The ratio of the 34 hips without collapse was 17.3%. In collapsed femoral heads, the distribution of necrosis focus was 23.4% in quadrant 1 (q1), 23.6% in q2, 12.1% in q3, 14.4% in q4, 9.0% in q5, 11.8% in q6, 1.6% in q7 and 3.9% in q8. In femoral heads without collapse, the distribution was 34.2% in q1, 29.6% in q2, 11.8% in q3, 11.3% in q4, 6.0% in q5, 6.0% in q6, 0.5% in q7 and 0.4% in q8. As for the average cubic capacities of femoral heads and necrotic foci, those acquired from the digital model and biopsy specimen had no significant difference in matched-pairs test (t = -1.49, P = 0.179 for femoral heads and t = -1.52, P = 0.172 for necrotic foci). There was significant difference (F = 2.720, P = 0.035 P was respectively 0.0001 and 0.0005). Decision tree model showed that 94.6% (53/56) hips would progress into collapse if the volumetric ratio of necrotic tissue was over 23.48%. Otherwise, if distribution in q2 was over 45.13%, 83.3% (5/6) hips would progress into collapse. No collapse (0/30) would occur if the distribution of necrotic tissue in q2 was under 45.13%. Conclusion: Digital 3D-model reconstructed from CT scanning can precisely incarnate spatial orientation of necrotic foci in femoral head. Multinomial logistic regression and decision-making tree shows that volumetric ratio of necrotic tissues plays an important role in anticipating collapse of femoral head. 展开更多

The creation of three-dimensional models from an unorganized set of points is an active research area in computer graphics. One of the purposes of this study is to explore the 3D reconstruction of a cube-type artificial reef(CTAR)set by linear structured light and binocular stereo vision technology in an underwater environment. The experimental setup is composed of two ca-meras in a stereo vision configuration. The alpha shapes method can be used to construct a surface that most closely reflects the arti-ficial reef set described by the points.A parameter study is conducted to assess the scales of the set(i.e.,usable volume, surface area, projected area, height, and base diameter)on the basis of 3D reconstruction.Experimental results show that the quality of 3D recon-struction in an underwater environment is acceptable for estimating the scale size of the CTAR set.According to the measurement of the scale sizing of the CTAR set,the relationships between the parameters of the CTAR set and the number of CTAR modules were determined. Moreover, the usable volume of the CTAR set can be estimated depending on the basis of the number of CTAR modules. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Percutaneous sclerotherapy can be used to successfully treat venous malformations(VMs)of the head, neck, and limbs. However, the standard curative effect of sclerotherapy has rarely been analyzed, and there is currently no accurate statistical method to measure the volume of VMs after sclerotherapy. Here,we propose a novel threedimensional(3D)reconstruction method to evaluate this effect.OBJECTIVE To test the feasibility of 3D software(MIMICS 19.0)to evaluate the treatment effect of sclerotherapy.METHODS This retrospective study included patients with VMs on the head, neck, and limbs who were treated with ethanol sclerotherapy or foam sclerotherapy every 8 weeks.MIMICS 19.0 was used to calculate the performance of the lesion after treatment and measure the VM volumes before and after the treatment. The effect of the clinical treatment dose on the lesion was evaluated, and the treatment effect of each patient was recorded. The relationship between the number of treatments and the reduced volume of VMs was analyzed.RESULTS Based on the MIMICS-calculated regions of interest(ROI),we found that 1 mL of ethanol reduced the lesion by 473 mm3 and that one dosage of foam(1 mL of polidocanol and 4 mL air content)reduced the lesion by 2138 mm3,demonstrating that the foam sclerosing agent exhibited greater efficacy in this study.CONCLUSIONS The MIMICS 3D volume reconstruction method can effectively and safely evaluate the efficacy of sclerotherapy and provide a preoperative evaluation. This method is simple, accurate, and feasible. 展开更多

To study the effects of the initiation position on the damage and fracture characteristics of linear-charge blasting, blasting model experiments were conducted in this study using computed tomography scanning and three-dimensional reconstruction methods. The fractal damage theory was used to quantify the crack distribution and damage degree of sandstone specimens after blasting. The results showed that regardless of an inverse or top initiation, due to compression deformation and sliding frictional resistance, the plugging medium of the borehole is effective. The energy of the explosive gas near the top of the borehole is consumed. This affects the effective crushing of rocks near the top of the borehole, where the extent of damage to Sections Ⅰ and Ⅱ is less than that of Sections Ⅲ and Ⅳ. In addition, the analysis revealed that under conditions of top initiation, the reflected tensile damage of the rock at the free face of the top of the borehole and the compression deformation of the plug and friction consume more blasting energy, resulting in lower blasting energy efficiency for top initiation. As a result, the overall damage degree of the specimens in the top-initiation group was significantly smaller than that in the inverse-initiation group. Under conditions of inverse initiation, the blasting energy efficiency is greater, causing the specimen to experience greater damage. Therefore, in the engineering practice of rock tunnel cut blasting, to utilize blasting energy effectively and enhance the effects of rock fragmentation, using the inverse-initiation method is recommended. In addition, in three-dimensional(3D) rock blasting, the bottom of the borehole has obvious end effects under the conditions of inverse initiation, and the crack distribution at the bottom of the borehole is trumpet-shaped. The occurrence of an end effect in the 3D linear-charge blasting model experiment is related to the initiation position and the blocking condition. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Laparoscopic rectal cancer radical surgery is a complex procedure affected by various factors. However, the existing literature lacks standardized parameters for the pelvic region and soft tissues, which hampers the establishment of consistent conclusions.AIM To comprehensively assess 16 pelvic and 7 soft tissue parameters through computerized tomography(CT)-based three-dimensional(3D)reconstruction,providing a strong theoretical basis to address challenges in laparoscopic rectal cancer radical surgery.METHODS We analyzed data from 218 patients who underwent radical laparoscopic surgery for rectal cancer, and utilized CT data for 3D pelvic reconstruction.Specific anatomical points were carefully marked and measured using advanced 3D modeling software. To analyze the pelvic and soft tissue parameters,we emp-loyed statistical methods including paired sample t-tests,Wilcoxon rank-sum tests, and correlation analysis.RESULTS The investigation highlighted significant sex disparities in 14 pelvic bone parameters and 3 soft tissue parameters.Males demonstrated larger measurements in pelvic depth and overall curvature, smaller measurements in pelvic width,a larger mesorectal fat area, and a larger anterior-posterior abdominal diameter.By contrast, females exhibited wider pelvises, shallower depth, smaller overall curvature, and an increased amount of subcutaneous fat tissue. However, there were no significant sex differences observed in certain parameters such as sacral curvature height, superior pubococcygeal diameter, rectal area, visceral fat area, waist circumference, and transverse abdominal diameter.CONCLUSION The reconstruction of 3D CT data enabled accurate pelvic measurements, revealing significant sex differences in both pelvic and soft tissue parameters. This study design offer potential in predicting surgical difficulties and creating personalized surgical plans for male rectal cancer patients with a potentially“difficult pelvis”,ultimately improving surgical outcomes.Further research and utilization of these parameters could lead to enhanced surgical methods and patient care in laparoscopic rectal cancer radical surgery. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Celecoxib has been used to treat hip discomfort and functional difficulties associated with osteonecrosis of the femoral head(ONFH),although significant adverse reactions often follow long-term use.Extracorporeal shock wave therapy(ESWT)can delay the progression of ONFH,alleviate the pain and functional limitations it causes, and avoid the adverse effects of celecoxib.AIM To investigate the effects of individual ESWT,a treatment alternative to the use of celecoxib,in alleviating pain and dysfunction caused by ONFH.METHODS This was a randomized,controlled,double-blinded,non-inferiority trial. We examined 80 patients for eligibility in this study;8 patients were excluded based on inclusion and exclusion criteria.A total of 72 subjects with ONFH were randomly assigned to group A(n=36;celecoxib+alendronate+sham-placebo shock wave)or group B(n=36;individual focused shock wave[ESWT based on magnetic resonance imaging three-dimensional(MRI-3D)reconstruction]+alendronate).The outcomes were assessed at baseline,at the end of treatment, and at an 8-wk follow-up.The primary outcome measure was treatment efficiency after 2 wk of intervention using the Harris hip score(HHS)(improvement of 10 points or more from the baseline was deemed sufficient).Secondary outcome measures were post-treatment HHS,visual analog scale(VAS),and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC)scores.RESULTS After treatment, the pain treatment efficiency of group B was greater than that of group A(69%vs 51%;95%CI:4.56%to 40.56%),with non-inferiority thresholds of-4.56%and-10%,respectively.Furthermore,the HHS,WOMAC,and VAS scores in group B dramatically improved during the follow-up period as compared to those in group A(P<0.001).After therapy, the VAS and WOMAC in group A were significantly improved from the 2nd to 8th wk(P<0.001),although HHS was only significantly altered at the 2 wk point(P<0.001).On the 1st d and 2nd wk after treatment,HHS and VAS scores were different between groups, with the difference in HHS lasting until week 4.Neither group had severe complications such as skin ulcer infection or lower limb motorsensory disturbance.CONCLUSION Individual shock wave therapy(ESWT)based on MRI-3D reconstruction was not inferior to celecoxib in managing hip pain and restrictions associated with ONFH. 展开更多

In coal mining, rock strata are fractured under cyclic loading and unloading to form fracture channels.Fracture channels are the main flow narrows for gas. Therefore, expounding the flow conductivity of fracture channels in rocks on fluids is significant for gas flow in rock strata. In this regard, graded incremental cyclic loading and unloading experiments were conducted on sandstones with different initial stress levels. Then, the three-dimensional models for fracture channels in sandstones were established. Finally, the fracture channel percentages were used to reflect the flow conductivity of fracture channels. The study revealed how the particle size distribution of fractured sandstone affects the formation and expansion of fracture channels. It was found that a smaller proportion of large blocks and a higher proportion of small blocks after sandstone fails contribute more to the formation of fracture channels. The proportion of fracture channels in fractured rock can indicate the flow conductivity of those channels. When the proportion of fracture channels varies gently, fluids flow evenly through those channels. However,if the proportion of fracture channels varies significantly,it can greatly affect the flow rate of fluids. The research results contribute to revealing the morphological evolution and flow conductivity of fracture channels in sandstone and then provide a theoretical basis for clarifying the gas flow pattern in the rock strata of coal mines. 展开更多

BACKGROUND The femoral neck dynamic intersection system(FNS)is mechanically more stable than other internal fixation techniques.Current studies have confirmed that the structural design of FNS has good biomechanical properties in European and American populations. However, whether the suitability of the FNS's 130°main nail angle design for Asian populations has been thoroughly investigated remains unclear.AIM To compare the biomechanical stability differences among different main nail angles of the FNS in the treatment of femoral neck fractures in Asian populations.METHODS Computed tomography data of the femur of healthy adult male volunteers were imported into Mimics software to create a three-dimensional model of the femur. The model was adapted to the curve using Geomagic software and imported into Solidworks software to construct the Pauwels I femoral neck fracture model and design the FNS internal fixation model using different main nail angles.Afterward, the models were assembled with the FNS fracture model and meshed using the preprocessing Hypermesh software.Subsequently, they were imported into Abaqus software to analyze and evaluate the biomechanical effects of different angles of the FNS main nail on the treatment of femoral neck fractures.RESULTS The peak displacement of the proximal femur under different angles of FNS fixation under stress was 7.446 millimeters in the 120°group and 7.416 millimeters in the 125°group;in the 130°,135°,and 140°FNS fixation groups, the peak displacement was 7.324 millimeters,8.138 millimeters, and 8.246 millimeters, respectively. In the 120°and 125°FNS fixation groups, the maximum stresses were concentrated at the main nail and the anti-rotation screw, which intersected the fracture line of the femur neck, resulting in peak stresses of 200.7 MPa and 138.8 MPa,respectively.Peak stresses of 208.8 MPa,219.8 MPa,and 239.3 MPa were observed on the angular locking plate distal to the locking screw in the 130°,135°,and 140°fixation groups.CONCLUSION FNS has significant stress distribution properties,a minimal proximal femoral displacement, and an optimal stability for treating femoral neck fractures in Asian populations when performed with a 130°main nail angle. 展开更多

This paper proposes a local point cloud map-based Web augmented reality(AR)indoor navigation system solution.By delivering the local point cloud map to the web front end for positioning, the real-time positioning can be implemented only with the help of the computing power of the web front end.In addition, with the characteristics of short time consumption and accurate positioning,an optimization solution to the local point cloud map is proposed, which includes specific measures such as descriptor de-duplicating and outlier removal, thus improving the quality of the point cloud. In this document, interpolation and smoothing effects are introduced for local map positioning, enhancing the anchoring effect and improving the smoothness and appearance of user experience. In small-scale indoor scenarios, the positioning frequency on an iPhone 13 can reach 30 fps,and the positioning precision is within 50 cm.Compared with an existing mainstream visual-based positioning manner for AR navigation, this specification does not rely on any additional sensor or cloud computing device, thereby greatly saving computing resources. It takes a very short time to meet the real-time requirements and provide users with a smooth positioning effect. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Primary adenoid cystic carcinoma in the trachea(TACC)is a rare tumour.Tracheal bronchoscopy is always chosen as a routine approach to obtain a pathological diagnosis, but it can be associated with an increased risk of asphyxia.CASE SUMMARY We describe a case of TACC in a patient evaluated by chest computed tomography(CT)with three-dimensional reconstruction imaging and diagnosed by transoesophageal endoscopic ultrasonography. The pathological diagnosis confirmed tracheal adenoid cystic carcinoma.CONCLUSION We highlight the importance of CT and provide a successful exploration of transoesophageal biopsy as a safe alternative approach. 展开更多
