Traffic prediction already plays a significant role in applications like traffic planning and urban management, but it is still difficult to capture the highly non-linear and complicated spatiotemporal correlations of traffic data.As well as to fulfil both long-termand short-termprediction objectives,a better representation of the temporal dependency and global spatial correlation of traffic data is needed. In order to do this, the Spatiotemporal Graph Neural Network(S-GNN)is proposed in this research as amethod for traffic prediction. The S-GNN simultaneously accepts various traffic data as inputs and investigates the non-linear correlations between the variables. In terms of modelling, the road network is initially represented as a spatiotemporal directed graph, with the features of the samples at the time step being captured by a convolution module. In order to assign varying attention weights to various adjacent area nodes of the target node, the adjacent areas information of nodes in the road network is then aggregated using a graph network. The data is output using a fully connected layer at the end.The findings show that S-GNN can improve short-and long-term traffic prediction accuracy to a greater extent;in comparison to the control model, the RMSE of S-GNN is reduced by about 0.571 to 9.288 and the MAE(Mean Absolute Error)by about 0.314 to 7.678.The experimental results on two real datasets,Pe MSD7(M)and PEMS-BAY,also support this claim. 展开更多

Accurate traffic prediction is crucial for an intelligent traffic system (ITS). However, the excessive non-linearity and complexity of the spatial-temporal correlation in traffic flow severely limit the prediction accuracy of most existing models, which simply stack temporal and spatial modules and fail to capture spatial-temporal features effectively. To improve the prediction accuracy, a multi-head attention spatial-temporal graph neural network (MSTNet) is proposed in this paper. First, the traffic data is decomposed into unique time spans that conform to positive rules, and valuable traffic node attributes are mined through an adaptive graph structure. Second, time and spatial features are captured using a multi-head attention spatial-temporal module. Finally, a multi-step prediction module is used to achieve future traffic condition prediction. Numerical experiments were conducted on an open-source dataset, and the results demonstrate that MSTNet performs well in spatial-temporal feature extraction and achieves more positive forecasting results than the baseline methods. 展开更多

With the development of intelligent and interconnected traffic system,a convergence of traffic stream is anticipated in the foreseeable future, where both connected automated vehicle(CAV)and human driven vehicle(HDV)will coexist. In order to examine the effect of CAV on the overall stability and energy consumption of such a heterogeneous traffic system,we first take into account the interrelated perception of distance and speed by CAV to establish a macroscopic dynamic model through utilizing the full velocity difference(FVD)model.Subsequently, adopting the linear stability theory,we propose the linear stability condition for the model through using the small perturbation method, and the validity of the heterogeneous model is verified by comparing with the FVD model.Through nonlinear theoretical analysis,we further derive the KdV-Burgers equation, which captures the propagation characteristics of traffic density waves. Finally,by numerical simulation experiments through utilizing a macroscopic model of heterogeneous traffic flow, the effect of CAV permeability on the stability of density wave in heterogeneous traffic flow and the energy consumption of the traffic system is investigated.Subsequent analysis reveals emergent traffic phenomena. The experimental findings demonstrate that as CAV permeability increases, the ability to dampen the propagation of fluctuations in heterogeneous traffic flow gradually intensifies when giving system perturbation, leading to enhanced stability of the traffic system.Furthermore, higher initial traffic density renders the traffic system more susceptible to congestion, resulting in local clustering effect and stop-and-go traffic phenomenon.Remarkably, the total energy consumption of the heterogeneous traffic system exhibits a gradual decline with CAV permeability increasing.Further evidence has demonstrated the positive influence of CAV on heterogeneous traffic flow. This research contributes to providing theoretical guidance for future CAV applications, aiming to enhance urban road traffic efficiency and alleviate congestion. 展开更多

Intelligent traffic control requires accurate estimation of the road states and incorporation of adaptive or dynamically adjusted intelligent algorithms for making the decision. In this article, these issues are handled by proposing a novel framework for traffic control using vehicular communications and Internet of Things data. The framework integrates Kalman filtering and Q-learning.Unlike smoothing Kalman filtering, our data fusion Kalman filter incorporates a process-aware model which makes it superior in terms of the prediction error.Unlike traditional Q-learning,our Q-learning algorithm enables adaptive state quantization by changing the threshold of separating low traffic from high traffic on the road according to the maximum number of vehicles in the junction roads. For evaluation, the model has been simulated on a single intersection consisting of four roads:east, west, north, and south.A comparison of the developed adaptive quantized Q-learning(AQQL)framework with state-of-the-art and greedy approaches shows the superiority of AQQL with an improvement percentage in terms of the released number of vehicles of AQQL is 5%over the greedy approach and 340%over the state-of-the-art approach.Hence,AQQL provides an effective traffic control that can be applied in today’s intelligent traffic system. 展开更多

The Internet of Things(IoT)has revolutionized how we interact with and gather data from our surrounding environment.IoT devices with various sensors and actuators generate vast amounts of data that can be harnessed to derive valuable insights. The rapid proliferation of Internet of Things(IoT)devices has ushered in an era of unprecedented data generation and connectivity. These IoT devices, equipped with many sensors and actuators, continuously produce vast volumes of data. However, the conventional approach of transmitting all this data to centralized cloud infrastructures for processing and analysis poses significant challenges. However, transmitting all this data to a centralized cloud infrastructure for processing and analysis can be inefficient and impractical due to bandwidth limitations, network latency, and scalability issues. This paper proposed a Self-Learning Internet Traffic Fuzzy Classifier(SLItFC)for traffic data analysis. The proposed techniques effectively utilize clustering and classification procedures to improve classification accuracy in analyzing network traffic data.SLItFC addresses the intricate task of efficiently managing and analyzing IoT data traffic at the edge.It employs a sophisticated combination of fuzzy clustering and self-learning techniques, allowing it to adapt and improve its classification accuracy over time. This adaptability is a crucial feature, given the dynamic nature of IoT environments where data patterns and traffic characteristics can evolve rapidly. With the implementation of the fuzzy classifier, the accuracy of the clustering process is improvised with the reduction of the computational time.SLItFC can reduce computational time while maintaining high classification accuracy. This efficiency is paramount in edge computing, where resource constraints demand streamlined data processing.Additionally,SLItFC’s performance advantages make it a compelling choice for organizations seeking to harness the potential of IoT data for real-time insights and decision-making.With the Self-Learning process, the SLItFC model monitors the network traffic data acquired from the IoT Devices. The Sugeno fuzzy model is implemented within the edge computing environment for improved classification accuracy.Simulation analysis stated that the proposed SLItFC achieves 94.5%classification accuracy with reduced classification time. 展开更多

Traffic flow prediction plays a key role in the construction of intelligent transportation system. However, due to its complex spatio-temporal dependence and its uncertainty, the research becomes very challenging. Most of the existing studies are based on graph neural networks that model traffic flow graphs and try to use fixed graph structure to deal with the relationship between nodes. However, due to the time-varying spatial correlation of the traffic network, there is no fixed node relationship, and these methods cannot effectively integrate the temporal and spatial features. This paper proposes a novel temporal-spatial dynamic graph convolutional network(TSADGCN).The dynamic time warping algorithm(DTW)is introduced to calculate the similarity of traffic flow sequence among network nodes in the time dimension, and the spatiotemporal graph of traffic flow is constructed to capture the spatiotemporal characteristics and dependencies of traffic flow.By combining graph attention network and time attention network,a spatiotemporal convolution block is constructed to capture spatiotemporal characteristics of traffic data.Experiments on open data sets PEMSD4 and PEMSD8 show that TSADGCN has higher prediction accuracy than well-known traffic flow prediction algorithms. 展开更多

Network traffic identification is critical for maintaining network security and further meeting various demands of network applications. However, network traffic data typically possesses high dimensionality and complexity, leading to practical problems in traffic identification data analytics.Since the original Dung Beetle Optimizer(DBO)algorithm,Grey Wolf Optimization(GWO)algorithm,Whale Optimization Algorithm(WOA),and Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO)algorithm have the shortcomings of slow convergence and easily fall into the local optimal solution,an Improved Dung Beetle Optimizer(IDBO)algorithm is proposed for network traffic identification.Firstly, the Sobol sequence is utilized to initialize the dung beetle population, laying the foundation for finding the global optimal solution.Next,an integration of levy flight and golden sine strategy is suggested to give dung beetles a greater probability of exploring unvisited areas, escaping from the local optimal solution, and converging more effectively towards a global optimal solution. Finally,an adaptive weight factor is utilized to enhance the search capabilities of the original DBO algorithm and accelerate convergence. With the improvements above, the proposed IDBO algorithm is then applied to traffic identification data analytics and feature selection,as so to find the optimal subset for K-Nearest Neighbor(KNN)classification. The simulation experiments use the CICIDS2017 dataset to verify the effectiveness of the proposed IDBO algorithm and compare it with the original DBO,GWO,WOA,and PSO algorithms. The experimental results show that, compared with other algorithms, the accuracy and recall are improved by 1.53%and 0.88%in binary classification, and the Distributed Denial of Service(DDoS)class identification is the most effective in multi-classification,with an improvement of 5.80%and 0.33%for accuracy and recall, respectively. Therefore, the proposed IDBO algorithm is effective in increasing the efficiency of traffic identification and solving the problem of the original DBO algorithm that converges slowly and falls into the local optimal solution when dealing with high-dimensional data analytics and feature selection for network traffic identification. 展开更多

In air traffic control communications (ATCC), misunderstandings between pilots and controllers could result in fatal aviation accidents. Fortunately, advanced automatic speech recognition technology has emerged as a promising means of preventing miscommunications and enhancing aviation safety. However, most existing speech recognition methods merely incorporate external language models on the decoder side, leading to insufficient semantic alignment between speech and text modalities during the encoding phase. Furthermore, it is challenging to model acoustic context dependencies over long distances due to the longer speech sequences than text, especially for the extended ATCC data. To address these issues, we propose a speech-text multimodal dual-tower architecture for speech recognition. It employs cross-modal interactions to achieve close semantic alignment during the encoding stage and strengthen its capabilities in modeling auditory long-distance context dependencies. In addition, a two-stage training strategy is elaborately devised to derive semantics-aware acoustic representations effectively. The first stage focuses on pre-training the speech-text multimodal encoding module to enhance inter-modal semantic alignment and aural long-distance context dependencies. The second stage fine-tunes the entire network to bridge the input modality variation gap between the training and inference phases and boost generalization performance. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed speech-text multimodal speech recognition method on the ATCC and AISHELL-1 datasets. It reduces the character error rate to 6.54% and 8.73%, respectively, and exhibits substantial performance gains of 28.76% and 23.82% compared with the best baseline model. The case studies indicate that the obtained semantics-aware acoustic representations aid in accurately recognizing terms with similar pronunciations but distinctive semantics. The research provides a novel modeling paradigm for semantics-aware speech recognition in air traffic control communications, which could contribute to the advancement of intelligent and efficient aviation safety management. 展开更多

As the demands of massive connections and vast coverage rapidly grow in the next wireless communication networks, rate splitting multiple access(RSMA) is considered to be the new promising access scheme since it can provide higher efficiency with limited spectrum resources. In this paper, combining spectrum splitting with rate splitting, we propose to allocate resources with traffic offloading in hybrid satellite terrestrial networks. A novel deep reinforcement learning method is adopted to solve this challenging non-convex problem. However, the neverending learning process could prohibit its practical implementation. Therefore, we introduce the switch mechanism to avoid unnecessary learning. Additionally, the QoS constraint in the scheme can rule out unsuccessful transmission. The simulation results validates the energy efficiency performance and the convergence speed of the proposed algorithm. 展开更多

Long-term urban traffic flow prediction is an important task in the field of intelligent transportation,as it can help optimize traffic management and improve travel efficiency. To improve prediction accuracy,a crucial issue is how to model spatiotemporal dependency in urban traffic data.In recent years, many studies have adopted spatiotemporal neural networks to extract key information from traffic data. However, most models ignore the semantic spatial similarity between long-distance areas when mining spatial dependency. They also ignore the impact of predicted time steps on the next unpredicted time step for making long-term predictions. Moreover, these models lack a comprehensive data embedding process to represent complex spatiotemporal dependency. This paper proposes a multi-scale persistent spatiotemporal transformer(MSPSTT)model to perform accurate long-term traffic flow prediction in cities.MSPSTT adopts an encoder-decoder structure and incorporates temporal, periodic, and spatial features to fully embed urban traffic data to address these issues. The model consists of a spatiotemporal encoder and a spatiotemporal decoder, which rely on temporal, geospatial, and semantic space multi-head attention modules to dynamically extract temporal, geospatial, and semantic characteristics. The spatiotemporal decoder combines the context information provided by the encoder, integrates the predicted time step information, and is iteratively updated to learn the correlation between different time steps in the broader time range to improve the model’s accuracy for long-term prediction.Experiments on four public transportation datasets demonstrate that MSPSTT outperforms the existing models by up to 9.5%on three common metrics. 展开更多

With the increasing dimensionality of network traffic, extracting effective traffic features and improving the identification accuracy of different intrusion traffic have become critical in intrusion detection systems(IDS).However, both unsupervised and semisupervised anomalous traffic detection methods suffer from the drawback of ignoring potential correlations between features, resulting in an analysis that is not an optimal set. Therefore,in order to extract more representative traffic features as well as to improve the accuracy of traffic identification, this paper proposes a feature dimensionality reduction method combining principal component analysis and Hotelling’s T^(2) and a multilayer convolutional bidirectional long short-term memory(MSC_BiLSTM)classifier model for network traffic intrusion detection. This method reduces the parameters and redundancy of the model by feature extraction and extracts the dependent features between the data by a bidirectional long short-term memory(BiLSTM)network, which fully considers the influence between the before and after features. The network traffic is first characteristically downscaled by principal component analysis(PCA),and then the downscaled principal components are used as input to Hotelling’s T^(2) to compare the differences between groups. For datasets with outliers,Hotelling’s T^(2) can help identify the groups where the outliers are located and quantitatively measure the extent of the outliers. Finally,a multilayer convolutional neural network and a BiLSTM network are used to extract the spatial and temporal features of network traffic data. The empirical consequences exhibit that the suggested approach in this manuscript attains superior outcomes in precision, recall and F1-score juxtaposed with the prevailing techniques. The results show that the intrusion detection accuracy, precision, and F1-score of the proposed MSC_BiLSTM model for the CIC-IDS 2017 dataset are 98.71%,95.97%,and 90.22%. 展开更多

While encryption technology safeguards the security of network communications, malicious traffic also uses encryption protocols to obscure its malicious behavior. To address the issues of traditional machine learning methods relying on expert experience and the insufficient representation capabilities of existing deep learning methods for encrypted malicious traffic,we propose an encrypted malicious traffic classification method that integrates global semantic features with local spatiotemporal features, called BERT-based Spatio-Temporal Features Network(BSTFNet). At the packet-level granularity, the model captures the global semantic features of packets through the attention mechanism of the Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers(BERT)model. At the byte-level granularity,we initially employ the Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit(BiGRU)model to extract temporal features from bytes, followed by the utilization of the Text Convolutional Neural Network(TextCNN)model with multi-sized convolution kernels to extract local multi-receptive field spatial features. The fusion of features from both granularities serves as the ultimate multidimensional representation of malicious traffic. Our approach achieves accuracy and F1-score of 99.39%and 99.40%,respectively,on the publicly available USTC-TFC2016 dataset, and effectively reduces sample confusion within the Neris and Virut categories. The experimental results demonstrate that our method has outstanding representation and classification capabilities for encrypted malicious traffic. 展开更多

Urban traffic volume detection is an essential part of trafficplanning in terms of urban planning in China. To improve the statisticsefficiency of road traffic volume, this thesis proposes a method for predictingmotor vehicle traffic volume on urban roads in small and medium-sizedcities during the traffic peak hour by using mobile signal technology. Themethod is verified through simulation experiments, and the limitations andthe improvement methods are discussed. This research can be divided intothree parts: Firstly, the traffic patterns of small and medium-sized cities areobtained through a questionnaire survey. A total of 19745 residents weresurveyed in Luohe, a medium-sized city in China and five travel modes oflocal people were obtained. Secondly, after the characteristics of residents’rest and working time are investigated, a method is proposed in this studyfor the distribution of urban residential and working places based on mobilephone signaling technology. Finally, methods for predicting traffic volume ofthese travel modes are proposed after the characteristics of these travel modesand methods for the distribution of urban residential and working placesare analyzed. Based on the actual traffic volume data observed at offlineintersections, the project team takes Luohe city as the research object and itverifies the accuracy of the prediction method by comparing the predictiondata. The prediction simulation results of traffic volume show that the averageerror rate of traffic volume is unstable. The error rate ranges from 10% to 30%.In this thesis, simulation experiments and field investigations are adopted toanalyze why these errors occur. 展开更多

Traffic congestion is associated with increased environmental pollutions, as well as reduced socio-economic productivity due to significant delays in travel times. The consequences are worse in least developed countries where motorized road transport networks are often inefficiently managed in addition to being largely underdeveloped. Recent research on traffic congestion has mostly focused on infrastructural aspects of road networks, with little or no emphasis at all on motorists’ on-the-road behavior (MB). The current study thus aimed to bridge this knowledge gap by characterizing traffic jam incidents (TJI) observed over a period of 80 days in Uganda’s Capital City, Kampala. MB as well as road network infrastructural factors such as road blockage (RB), were captured for each of the observed TJI. A total of 483 peak-time TJI were recorded, and exploratory data analysis (EDA) subsequently performed on the TJI dataset. EDA involved Hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA) and K-means clustering of the TJI dataset, as well as a detailed descriptive statistical analysis of both the entire dataset and the emerging TJI clusters. A highlight finding of this study is that 48.2% of the observed TJIs were as a result of on-the-road motorist behavior. Furthermore, the intervention of traffic police officers in a bid to regulate traffic flow was equally responsible for 25.9% of the TJIs observed in this study. Overall, these results indicate that whereas road infrastructural improvement is warranted in order to improve traffic flow, introducing interventions to address inappropriate on-the-road motorists’ behavior could alone improve traffic flow in Kampala, by over 48%. Additionally, in-order to effectively regulate traffic flow in Kampala and other least developed cities with similar traffic congestion management practices, motorists’ on-the-road behavior ought to be factored into any data-driven mechanisms deployed to regulate traffic flow and thus potentially significantly curbing traffic congestion. 展开更多

Encrypted traffic classification has become a hot issue in network security research. The class imbalance problem of traffic samples often causes the deterioration of Machine Learning based classifier performance.Although the Generative Adversarial Network(GAN)method can generate new samples by learning the feature distribution of the original samples,it is confronted with the problems of unstable training andmode collapse. To this end,a novel data augmenting approach called Graph CWGAN-GP is proposed in this paper. The traffic data is first converted into grayscale images as the input for the proposed model. Then, the minority class data is augmented with our proposed model, which is built by introducing conditional constraints and a new distance metric in typical GAN.Finally, the classical deep learning model is adopted as a classifier to classify datasets augmented by the Condition GAN(CGAN),Wasserstein GAN-Gradient Penalty(WGAN-GP)and Graph CWGAN-GP,respectively.Compared with the state-of-the-art GAN methods, the Graph CWGAN-GP cannot only control the modes of the data to be generated, but also overcome the problem of unstable training and generate more realistic and diverse samples. The experimental results show that the classification precision, recall and F1-Score of theminority class in the balanced dataset augmented in this paper have improved by more than 2.37%,3.39% and 4.57%,respectively. 展开更多

Due to excessive car usage, pollution and traffic have increased. In urban cities in Saudi Arabia, such as Riyadh and Jeddah, drivers and air quality suffer from traffic congestion.Although the government has implemented numerous solutions to resolve this issue or reduce its effect on the environment and residents,it still exists and is getting worse. This paper proposes an intelligent, adaptive, practical, and feasible deep learning method for intelligent traffic control. It uses an Internet of Things(IoT)sensor,a camera, and a Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)tool to control traffic in real time.An image segmentation algorithm analyzes inputs from the cameras installed in designated areas. This study considered whether CNNs and IoT technologies could ensure smooth traffic flow in high-speed,high-congestion situations. The presented algorithm calculates traffic density and cars’speeds to determine which lane gets high priority first.A real case study has been conducted on MATLAB to verify and validate the results of this approach. This algorithm estimates the reduced average waiting time during the red light and the suggested time for the green and red lights. An assessment between some literature works and the presented algorithm is also provided. In contrast to traditional traffic management methods, this intelligent and adaptive algorithm reduces traffic congestion, automobile waiting times, and accidents. 展开更多

The anonymity of the darknet makes it attractive to secure communication lines from censorship. The analysis, monitoring, and categorization of Internet network traffic are essential for detecting darknet traffic that can generate a comprehensive characterization of dangerous users and assist in tracing malicious activities and reducing cybercrime.Furthermore, classifying darknet traffic is essential for real-time applications such as the timely monitoring of malware before attacks occur. This paper presents a two-stage deep network chain for detecting and classifying darknet traffic. In the first stage, anonymized darknet traffic, including VPN and Tor traffic related to hidden services provided by darknets,is detected. In the second stage, traffic related to VPNs and Tor services is classified based on their respective applications. The methodology of this paper was verified on a benchmark dataset containing VPN and Tor traffic. It achieved an accuracy of 96.8%and 94.4%in the detection and classification stages, respectively.Optimization and parameter tuning were performed in both stages to achieve more accurate results, enabling practitioners to combat alleged malicious activities and further detect such activities after outbreaks. In the classification stage,it was observed that the misclassifications were due to the audio and video streaming commonly used in shared real-time protocols. However,in cases where it is desired to distinguish between such activities accurately, the presented deep chain classifier can accommodate additional classifiers.Furthermore, additional classifiers could be added to the chain to categorize specific activities of interest further. 展开更多

With the rapid development of urban road traffic and the increasing number of vehicles, how to alleviate traffic congestion is one of the hot issues that need to be urgently addressed in building smart cities. Therefore,in this paper,a nonlinear multi-objective optimization model of urban intersection signal timing based on a Genetic Algorithm was constructed.Specifically,a typical urban intersection was selected as the research object, and drivers’acceleration habits were taken into account. What’s more, the shortest average delay time, the least average number of stops, and the maximum capacity of the intersection were regarded as the optimization objectives. The optimization results show that compared with the Webster method when the vehicle speed is 60 km/h and the acceleration is 2.5 m/s^(2),the signal intersection timing scheme based on the proposed Genetic Algorithm multi-objective optimization reduces the intersection signal cycle time by 14.6%,the average vehicle delay time by 12.9%,the capacity by 16.2%,and the average number of vehicles stop by 0.4%.To verify the simulation results, the authors imported the optimized timing scheme into the constructed Simulation of the Urban Mobility model. The experimental results show that the authors optimized timing scheme is superior to Webster’s in terms of vehicle average loss time reduction, carbon monoxide emission, particulate matter emission, and vehicle fuel consumption. The research in this paper provides a basis for Genetic algorithms in traffic signal control. 展开更多
