Multiple stepwise regressions indicated that academic self-efficacy, learning attitude, attitudes to major of nursing, and level of learning difficulties were major influential factors and explained 48.1% of the variance in SDLR of nursing interns.Conclusions: The score of SDLR of nursing undergraduates is not promising. It is imperative to correct students' learning attitude, improve self-efficacy, and adopt appropriate teaching model to improve SDLR.展开更多

Objective:To determine their reproductive health behaviour concerning fidelity and psychosocial intimacy in the face of current trends in sexually transmitted infections(STIs) and human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)/ ac...Objective:To determine their reproductive health behaviour concerning fidelity and psychosocial intimacy in the face of current trends in sexually transmitted infections(STIs) and human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)/ acquired immune deficiency syndromes(AIDS) pandemic.Methods:A cross-sectional comparative male/female cohort study using a semi-structured questionnaire to interview sexually activity of undergraduates in University of Calabar(UNICAL) was conducted over a three(3) month period in 2007.Markers used were number of sexual partners,frequency of sexual intercourse in the 6 months preceding,knowledge of last menstrual period(LMP),methods of self-protection against STIs,number of unwanted pregnancies terminated,and contraceptive use.Results:Of the 1 337 respondents,648 out of 684 males(94.7%) and 543 out of 653 females (83.2%) had multiple sex partners.The gender difference was statistically significant(P 【0.01).Only 36 (5.3%) of males and 110(16.9%) of females maintained single mates in the past six months.About half of females(320,49.0%) and 314(45.9%) of males exhibited spontaneous sexual contact habits.The difference in frequency of intercourse between both groups was not statistically significant(P 】0.05).While 275(42.0%) of the females could state the exact last menstrual period(LMP),only 14(2.1%) males could remember their mates LMP,and 496(72.5%) of males did not know anything about mates’menstrual habits.There was no statistical significance difference(P 】0.05 ) between both groups in their safe sex practices. One hundred and sixty three(23.8%) male and one hundred and forty one(22.8%) females used condoms,while 347(50.7%) of male and 337(51.6%) of females did nothing.Two hundred and seventy six(40.0%) of males’mates had terminated pregnancies and three hundred and forty eight(53.3%) of female respondents admitted doing so.Thirty(4.60%) females terminated pregnancy more than six times.Females had more knowledge of contraceptives but males used condoms more.Respondents expressed need for sexuality education.Conclusion:Sexual behaviour of UNICAL undergraduates does not conform to current trends of safe-sex.There is need for more information,education and communication.展开更多

Developing patient safety education for medical students is more and more widely recognized by World Health Organization and countries all over the world. However, in China, patient safety courses aiming at medical students are relatively few, and there are few reports about the effect of patient safety courses. This paper explored the influence of patient safety curriculum on medical students' attitude to and knowledge of patient safety. The patient safety curriculum was carried out for 2011-grade undergraduates of Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The students participated in the class according to free choice. After the curriculum, the information of gender, major, attended course, attitude toward patient safety, and knowledge of laws and regulations of the 2011-grade undergraduates were collected. After rejecting invalid questionnaires, the number of undergraduates that participated in the survey was 112(61 students did not take part in the curriculum; 51 took part in). Chi-square test was applied to analyze patient safety education's influence on medical students' attitude to patient safety and their knowledge mastery situation. The influence of patient safety education on the attitude of medical students to patient safety was not significant, but that on their knowledge of patient safety was remarkable. No matter male or female, as compared with medical students who had not accepted patient safety education, they both had a better acquisition of knowledge after having this education(for male students: 95% CI, 4.556–106.238, P<0.001; for female students: 95% CI, 3.183–33.238, P<0.001). Students majoring in Western Medicine had a relatively better mastery of knowledge of patient safety after receiving patient safety education(95% CI, 6.267–76.271, P<0.001). Short-term patient safety education cannot change medical students' stereotyped cognition on matters related to patient safety, but it can effectively enhance their knowledge of laws and regulations of patient safety.展开更多

Students suggested that the textbook should be closely related to nursing. The contents,difficulty, structure and charts of the textbook should be adjusted properly.Conclusions: The content of the nursing version of the biochemistry textbook should be driven by the needs of the nursing major and should focus on simplifying the textbook's content, and making it practical. This will make the textbook vivid and readable, enhancing the interest of students to accept and benefit from the textbook.展开更多

However, the traditional way to identify college students with financial difficulties mainly relies on manual review and collective voting, which easily causes subjectivity and randomness. To alleviate the problem above, this paper establishes an automatic identification model for needy undergraduates based on the 1842 questionnaires collected from undergraduates in WHUT. Firstly, this paper filters the questionnaire preliminary using the local outlier factor algorithm. Secondly, this paper combines mutual information, Spearman rank correlation coefficient and distance correlation coefficient by rank-sum ratio to select features for eliminating noise from irrelevant features. Thirdly, this paper trains filed-aware factor machine model and compares it with other models, such as Logistic Regression, SVM, etc. Eventually, this paper finds that filed-aware factor machine performers much better than other models in the identification of needy undergraduates, and prominent features affecting the identification of needy undergraduates are the year of the family income, cost of living provided parents, etc.展开更多

In 2018, cervical cancer was estimated to be 570,000 cases and 311,000 deaths;it ranked as the fourth most commonly diagnosed cancer and the fourth leading cause of cancer death in women. Cervical cancer can be prevented through health education and vaccination against HPV. This study aimed at evaluating the level of awareness of human papillomavirus and cervical cancer among female undergraduate students of Babcock University, Ogun state of Nigeria. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional, questionnaire-based study conducted among 310 female undergraduates of Babcock University in Nigeria from January to April 2019. The selection technique was a multistage random sampling method. The data collection was done using structured and self-administered questionnaires. Data collected were analyzed using IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) statistics for windows version 25 and were presented in summary charts and frequency tables. P-values less than or equal to 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: Of 310 female students, 296 (95.5%) were aware of HPV infections. The majority, 215 (69.4%) of the students knew that HPV is sexually transmitted. There was poor knowledge of the risk factors of HPV infection. Only, 65 (21.0%) were aware that HPV infection causes cervical cancer. A few proportions of students 79 (25.4%) were aware of the HPV vaccine. Consequently, only 44 (14.2%) have received HPV vaccination and some complained about the cost as a significant reason for not being vaccinated against HPV infection. Conclusion: The level of awareness of HPV infection, cervical cancer, and HPV vaccine uptake was very low in this study. There is a need to improve health education and awareness campaigns among students about HPV infection, cervical cancer, and HPV vaccine uptake.展开更多

Medical undergraduates which are the future frontier play an utmost role in educating and quell the social barrier in discussion on this taboo topic. We aimed to determine the knowledge, perception and factors affecting sexual health education among medical students in MMMC and to advocate sexual health education at primary level. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 309 respondents comprises of Year 3, 4 and 5. Results: There was significant association between age, gender, religion and ethnicity and sexual health knowledge and perception score. Pearson correlation coefficient shows there was positive correlation (r = 0.059) between total sexual health knowledge percentage score and total perception score but was not significant. Conclusion: Medical undergraduates should improve their knowledge and perception regarding sexual health education. It is recommended to implement sexual education in high school curriculum and institution of higher learning in Malaysia as it is not implemented yet here due to political and religion sensitivity. It is also important that students develop personalities that are ready to accept exchange and contribute sensitive issues such as sexual health.展开更多

To explore the status of undergraduates’WeChat usage and upward social comparison,and analyze the relationship between the above two variables.Totally 754 WeChat undergraduates were selected through poster recruitmen...To explore the status of undergraduates’WeChat usage and upward social comparison,and analyze the relationship between the above two variables.Totally 754 WeChat undergraduates were selected through poster recruitment from 5 colleges in Guangdong Province.They were investigated with Access Frequency to Social Networking Site Scale(AFSNSS),Upward Social Comparison Subscale of Iowa-Nwtherlands Comparison Orientation Measure(INCOM-USCS).The score of overall emotional engagement(OEE)of AFSNSS and the total standard score of INCOM–USCS(TSSI-U)were(22.41±4.70)and(0±4.5),respectively.The correlation between WeChat frequency and TSSI-U was not significant.TSSI-U was significantly positively correlated with the score of OEE and other items of AFSNSS(r=0.161~0.413,P<0.01).Multiple linear regression analysis showed that The scores of item 1,7and 8 of AFSNSS,as well as family economic status,grade ranking of academic performance(GRAP)and the purpose of WeChat use were postively correlated with TSSI-U(β=.104~.234,P<.05).Class cadre or not and origin were negatively correlated with TSSI-U(β=-.089,-.130,P<.05).Conclusion:It suggests that WeChat usage may be a related factor for undergraduates’upward social comparison.展开更多
Objective:To explore the influence of blending learning on the critical thinking disposition among undergraduates.Methods:Two undergraduate classes majoring in Applied Psychology with similar level of critical thinkin...Objective:To explore the influence of blending learning on the critical thinking disposition among undergraduates.Methods:Two undergraduate classes majoring in Applied Psychology with similar level of critical thinking disposition were selected as the research subjects.Class A(106 students)was the experimental class,and class B(131 students)was the control class.During the research period of one semester(four months),the following measures were implemented for the two classes.The control class studied Developmental Psychology under the conventional teaching methods and procedures,while the experimental class studied Developmental Psychology according to the requirements and procedures of blending learning.The two classes were investigated with Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory-Chinese Version(CTDI-CV)at the beginning and end of the course.Results:At the beginning of the course,the total scores of CTDI-CV of the two classes were(217.33±14.90)and(218.31±16.29),respectively,with no significant difference(P>0.05).At the end of the course,the total scores of CTDI-CV of the experimental class and the control class were(237.84±17.53)and(224.22±17.52),respectively,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.001).Conclusion:Blending learning may have a positive effect in improving the critical thinking disposition in undergraduates.展开更多

One hundred and sixty three(23.8%) male and one hundred and forty one(22.8%) females used condoms,while 347(50.7%) of male and 337(51.6%) of females did nothing.Two hundred and seventy six(40.0%) of males’mates had terminated pregnancies and three hundred and forty eight(53.3%) of female respondents admitted doing so.Thirty(4.60%) females terminated pregnancy more than six times.Females had more knowledge of contraceptives but males used condoms more.Respondents expressed need for sexuality education.Conclusion:Sexual behaviour of UNICAL undergraduates does not conform to current trends of safe-sex.There is need for more information,education and communication.

文摘Patient safety education is conducive to medical students' cognition on patient safety and to improvement of medical quality and safety. Developing patient safety education for medical students is more and more widely recognized by World Health Organization and countries all over the world. However, in China, patient safety courses aiming at medical students are relatively few, and there are few reports about the effect of patient safety courses. This paper explored the influence of patient safety curriculum on medical students' attitude to and knowledge of patient safety. The patient safety curriculum was carried out for 2011-grade undergraduates of Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The students participated in the class according to free choice. After the curriculum, the information of gender, major, attended course, attitude toward patient safety, and knowledge of laws and regulations of the 2011-grade undergraduates were collected. After rejecting invalid questionnaires, the number of undergraduates that participated in the survey was 112(61 students did not take part in the curriculum; 51 took part in). Chi-square test was applied to analyze patient safety education's influence on medical students' attitude to patient safety and their knowledge mastery situation. The influence of patient safety education on the attitude of medical students to patient safety was not significant, but that on their knowledge of patient safety was remarkable. No matter male or female, as compared with medical students who had not accepted patient safety education, they both had a better acquisition of knowledge after having this education(for male students: 95% CI, 4.556–106.238, P<0.001; for female students: 95% CI, 3.183–33.238, P<0.001). Students majoring in Western Medicine had a relatively better mastery of knowledge of patient safety after receiving patient safety education(95% CI, 6.267–76.271, P<0.001). Short-term patient safety education cannot change medical students' stereotyped cognition on matters related to patient safety, but it can effectively enhance their knowledge of laws and regulations of patient safety.
文摘Objective: To compile nursing undergraduates' opinions and suggestions for biochemistry textbook to improve the readability and applicability of a textbook of biochemistry.Methods: This investigation involved 279 nursing undergraduates through delivery of a self-made questionnaire, which was to be used to analyze and study the students' suggestions and opinions on the content of the biochemistry textbook.Results: The investigation revealed that the textbook's difficulty was associated negatively with students' interest(P < 0.05), and the textbook's importance was associated positively with students' interest(P < 0.05). Students suggested that the textbook should be closely related to nursing. The contents,difficulty, structure and charts of the textbook should be adjusted properly.Conclusions: The content of the nursing version of the biochemistry textbook should be driven by the needs of the nursing major and should focus on simplifying the textbook's content, and making it practical. This will make the textbook vivid and readable, enhancing the interest of students to accept and benefit from the textbook.
文摘In recent years, as the enrollment rate of Chinese colleges has increased year by year, the identification of needy undergraduates has become increasingly important. However, the traditional way to identify college students with financial difficulties mainly relies on manual review and collective voting, which easily causes subjectivity and randomness. To alleviate the problem above, this paper establishes an automatic identification model for needy undergraduates based on the 1842 questionnaires collected from undergraduates in WHUT. Firstly, this paper filters the questionnaire preliminary using the local outlier factor algorithm. Secondly, this paper combines mutual information, Spearman rank correlation coefficient and distance correlation coefficient by rank-sum ratio to select features for eliminating noise from irrelevant features. Thirdly, this paper trains filed-aware factor machine model and compares it with other models, such as Logistic Regression, SVM, etc. Eventually, this paper finds that filed-aware factor machine performers much better than other models in the identification of needy undergraduates, and prominent features affecting the identification of needy undergraduates are the year of the family income, cost of living provided parents, etc.

文摘Background: Human papillomavirus infection is most prevalent in the younger population and causes cervical cancer, which is the leading cause of cancer death worldwide. In 2018, cervical cancer was estimated to be 570,000 cases and 311,000 deaths;it ranked as the fourth most commonly diagnosed cancer and the fourth leading cause of cancer death in women. Cervical cancer can be prevented through health education and vaccination against HPV. This study aimed at evaluating the level of awareness of human papillomavirus and cervical cancer among female undergraduate students of Babcock University, Ogun state of Nigeria. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional, questionnaire-based study conducted among 310 female undergraduates of Babcock University in Nigeria from January to April 2019. The selection technique was a multistage random sampling method. The data collection was done using structured and self-administered questionnaires. Data collected were analyzed using IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) statistics for windows version 25 and were presented in summary charts and frequency tables. P-values less than or equal to 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results: Of 310 female students, 296 (95.5%) were aware of HPV infections. The majority, 215 (69.4%) of the students knew that HPV is sexually transmitted. There was poor knowledge of the risk factors of HPV infection. Only, 65 (21.0%) were aware that HPV infection causes cervical cancer. A few proportions of students 79 (25.4%) were aware of the HPV vaccine. Consequently, only 44 (14.2%) have received HPV vaccination and some complained about the cost as a significant reason for not being vaccinated against HPV infection. Conclusion: The level of awareness of HPV infection, cervical cancer, and HPV vaccine uptake was very low in this study. There is a need to improve health education and awareness campaigns among students about HPV infection, cervical cancer, and HPV vaccine uptake.
文摘The important target audiences of the college ideological and political education are the undergraduates. Anyone who works on the college ideological and political education has to learn the basic features of the development of the undergraduates’ moral qualities as well as the counseling principle, the optimism principle, the democratic principle and the encouraging principle. The college applied the means of traditional moral education to enhance undergraduates’ understanding of morality, gave topics on morality for undergraduates to increase their judgments on moral issues, praised the moral model undergraduates who served as a role model for the undergraduates, and offered the literary and artistic works for reading to trigger the emotional response of undergraduates. The undergraduates will have a better ideological understanding and seek new heights of self-cultivation during their moral practice.

From the perspective of students, this paper studies the important factors affecting teaching quality and the differences in teaching quality attribution of self-efficacy and major satisfaction, and draws a conclusion with reference value.
文摘Introduction: Sexual health education is paramount in curbing the rising numbers of sexual transmitted diseases in Malaysia. Medical undergraduates which are the future frontier play an utmost role in educating and quell the social barrier in discussion on this taboo topic. We aimed to determine the knowledge, perception and factors affecting sexual health education among medical students in MMMC and to advocate sexual health education at primary level. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 309 respondents comprises of Year 3, 4 and 5. Results: There was significant association between age, gender, religion and ethnicity and sexual health knowledge and perception score. Pearson correlation coefficient shows there was positive correlation (r = 0.059) between total sexual health knowledge percentage score and total perception score but was not significant. Conclusion: Medical undergraduates should improve their knowledge and perception regarding sexual health education. It is recommended to implement sexual education in high school curriculum and institution of higher learning in Malaysia as it is not implemented yet here due to political and religion sensitivity. It is also important that students develop personalities that are ready to accept exchange and contribute sensitive issues such as sexual health.

文摘This paper attempts to investigate the feasibility and learning effects of English fragmented learning via mobile devices.Questionnaires and interviews were employed to do the survey on 157 undergraduates from 24 universities in China.The research findings reveal that English fragmented learning via mobile devices has some positive effects on the improvement of learners’knowledge and learning ability.In addition,there have been a certain number of useful learning resources and platforms with diversified features.The study has the implications that fragmented mobile learning is feasible and can be popularized in English learning.
文摘To explore the status of undergraduates’WeChat usage and upward social comparison,and analyze the relationship between the above two variables.Totally 754 WeChat undergraduates were selected through poster recruitment from 5 colleges in Guangdong Province.They were investigated with Access Frequency to Social Networking Site Scale(AFSNSS),Upward Social Comparison Subscale of Iowa-Nwtherlands Comparison Orientation Measure(INCOM-USCS).The score of overall emotional engagement(OEE)of AFSNSS and the total standard score of INCOM–USCS(TSSI-U)were(22.41±4.70)and(0±4.5),respectively.The correlation between WeChat frequency and TSSI-U was not significant.TSSI-U was significantly positively correlated with the score of OEE and other items of AFSNSS(r=0.161~0.413,P<0.01).Multiple linear regression analysis showed that The scores of item 1,7and 8 of AFSNSS,as well as family economic status,grade ranking of academic performance(GRAP)and the purpose of WeChat use were postively correlated with TSSI-U(β=.104~.234,P<.05).Class cadre or not and origin were negatively correlated with TSSI-U(β=-.089,-.130,P<.05).Conclusion:It suggests that WeChat usage may be a related factor for undergraduates’upward social comparison.
文摘Objective:To explore the influence of blending learning on the critical thinking disposition among undergraduates.Methods:Two undergraduate classes majoring in Applied Psychology with similar level of critical thinking disposition were selected as the research subjects.Class A(106 students)was the experimental class,and class B(131 students)was the control class.During the research period of one semester(four months),the following measures were implemented for the two classes.The control class studied Developmental Psychology under the conventional teaching methods and procedures,while the experimental class studied Developmental Psychology according to the requirements and procedures of blending learning.The two classes were investigated with Critical Thinking Disposition Inventory-Chinese Version(CTDI-CV)at the beginning and end of the course.Results:At the beginning of the course,the total scores of CTDI-CV of the two classes were(217.33±14.90)and(218.31±16.29),respectively,with no significant difference(P>0.05).At the end of the course,the total scores of CTDI-CV of the experimental class and the control class were(237.84±17.53)and(224.22±17.52),respectively,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.001).Conclusion:Blending learning may have a positive effect in improving the critical thinking disposition in undergraduates.
文摘Metacognition has drawn wider research attention in the past decades in the field of teaching English as a foreign language. In this study, questionnaires surveying English learners' use of metacognitive writing strategies and their writing efficacy were respectively administered. Metacognitive writing strategy intervention was conducted The findings are further discussed with regard to the participants' specific learning context, and pedagogical implications derived from the research highlight the importance of integrating metacognitive writing strategy instruction into regular classroom teaching.
文摘The present study is based on an investigation conducted with 122 nursing undergraduates in Guilin Medical University on their use of metacognitive strategies in March,2010.Data,collected in the form of questionnaire and interviews,were analyzed.Results show that the strategies use is positively correlated with the degree of satisfaction for bilingual teaching and the expected proportion of English.
