Ground-based tests are important for studying hypervelocity impact(HVI)damage to spacecraft pressure vessels in the orbital debris environment. We analyzed the damage to composite overwrapped pressure vessels(COPVs)in the HVI tests and classified the damage into non-catastrophic damage and catastrophic damage. We proposed a numerical simulation method to further study non-catastrophic damage and revealed the characteristics and mechanisms of non-catastrophic damage affected by impact conditions and internal pressures. The fragments of the catastrophically damaged COPVs were collected after the tests. The crack distribution and propagation process of the catastrophic ruptures of the COPVs were analyzed. Our findings contribute to understanding the damage characteristics and mechanisms of COPVs by HVIs. 展开更多

AIM:To assess the repeatability, interocular correlation, and agreement of quantitative swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography(OCTA)optic nerve head(ONH)parameters in healthy subjects.METHODS:Thir ty-three healthy subjects were enrolled. The ONH of both eyes were imaged four times by a swept-source-OCTA using a 3 mm×3 mm scanning protocol.Images of the radial peripapillary capillary were analyzed by a customized Matlab program, and the vessel density, fractal dimension, and vessel diameter index were measured. The repeatability of the four scans was determined by the intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC).The most well-centered optic disc from the four repeated scans was then selected for the interocular correlation and agreement analysis using the Pearson correlation coefficient,ICC and Bland-Altman plots.RESULTS:All swept-source-OCTA ONH parameters exhibited certain repeatability, with ICC>0.760 and coefficient of variation(CoV)≤7.301%.The obvious interocular correlation was observed for papillary vessel density(ICC=0.857),vessel diameter index(ICC=0.857)and fractal dimension(ICC=0.906),while circumpapillary vessel density exhibited moderate interocular correlation(ICC=0.687).Bland-Altman plots revealed an agreement range of-5.26%to 6.21%for circumpapillary vessel density.CONCLUSION:OCTA ONH parameters demonstrate good repeatability in healthy subjects. The interocular correlations of papillary vessel density, fractal dimension and vessel diameter index are high, but the correlation for circumpapillary vessel density is moderate. 展开更多

AIM:To evaluate the predictive value of superficial retinal capillary plexus(SRCP)and radial peripapillary capillary(RPC)for visual field recovery after optic cross decompression and compare them with peripapillary nerve fiber layer(pRNFL)and ganglion cell complex(GCC).METHODS:This prospective longitudinal observational study included patients with chiasmal compression due to sellar region mass scheduled for decompressive surgery.Generalized estimating equations were used to compare retinal vessel density and retinal layer thickness preand post-operatively and with healthy controls.Logistic regression models were used to assess the relationship between preoperative GCC,pRNFL,SRCP,and RPC parameters and visual field recovery after surgery.RESULTS:The study included 43 eyes of 24 patients and 48 eyes of 24 healthy controls.Preoperative RPC and SRCP vessel density and pRNFL and GCC thickness were lower than healthy controls and higher than postoperative values. The best predictive GCC and pRNFL models were based on the superior GCC[area under the curve(AUC)=0.866]and the tempo-inferior pRNFL(AUC=0.824),and the best predictive SRCP and RPC models were based on the nasal SRCP(AUC=0.718)and tempo-inferior RPC(AUC=0.825).There was no statistical difference in the predictive value of the superior GCC,tempo-inferior pRNFL,and tempo-inferior RPC(all P>0.05).CONCLUSION:Compression of the optic chiasm by tumors in the saddle area can reduce retinal thickness and blood perfusion. This reduction persists despite the recovery of the visual field after decompression surgery.GCC,pRNFL,and RPC can be used as sensitive predictors of visual field recovery after decompression surgery. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Recently, vessels encapsulating tumor clusters(VETC)was considered as a distinct pattern of tumor vascularization which can primarily facilitate the entry of the whole tumor cluster into the bloodstream in an invasion independent manner, and was regarded as an independent risk factor for poor prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).AIM To develop and validate a preoperative nomogram using contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CECT)to predict the presence of VETC+in HCC.METHODS We retrospectively evaluated 190 patients with pathologically confirmed HCC who underwent CECT scanning and immunochemical staining for cluster of differentiation 34 at two medical centers.Radiomics analysis was conducted on intratumoral and peritumoral regions in the portal vein phase.Radiomics features, essential for identifying VETC+HCC,were extracted and utilized to develop a radiomics model using machine learning algorithms in the training set.The model’s performance was validated on two separate test sets.Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)analysis was employed to compare the identified performance of three models in predicting the VETC status of HCC on both training and test sets. The most predictive model was then used to constructed a radiomics nomogram that integrated the independent clinical-radiological features.ROC and decision curve analysis were used to assess the performance characteristics of the clinical-radiological features, the radiomics features and the radiomics nomogram.RESULTS The study included 190 individuals from two independent centers, with the majority being male(81%)and a median age of 57 years(interquartile range:51-66).The area under the curve(AUC)for the combined radiomics features selected from the intratumoral and peritumoral areas were 0.825,0.788,and 0.680 in the training set and the two test sets.A total of 13 features were selected to construct the Rad-score.The nomogram, combining clinicalradiological and combined radiomics features could accurately predict VETC+in all three sets, with AUC values of 0.859,0.848 and 0.757.Decision curve analysis revealed that the radiomics nomogram was more clinically useful than both the clinical-radiological feature and the combined radiomics models.CONCLUSION This study demonstrates the potential utility of a CECT-based radiomics nomogram, incorporating clinicalradiological features and combined radiomics features,in the identification of VETC+HCC. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Vessels encapsulating tumor clusters(VETC)represent a recently discovered vascular pattern associated with novel metastasis mechanisms in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).However,it seems that no one have focused on predicting VETC status in small HCC(sHCC).This study aimed to develop a new nomogram for predicting VETC positivity using preoperative clinical data and image features in sHCC(≤3 cm)patients.AIM To construct a nomogram that combines preoperative clinical parameters and image features to predict patterns of VETC and evaluate the prognosis of sHCC patients.METHODS A total of 309 patients with sHCC,who underwent segmental resection and had their VETC status confirmed, were included in the study. These patients were recruited from three different hospitals:Hospital 1 contributed 177 patients for the training set,Hospital 2 provided 78 patients for the test set,and Hospital 3 provided 54 patients for the validation set.Independent predictors of VETC were identified through univariate and multivariate logistic analyses. These independent predictors were then used to construct a VETC prediction model for sHCC.The model’s performance was evaluated using the area under the curve(AUC),calibration curve, and clinical decision curve.Additionally,Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was performed to confirm whether the predicted VETC status by the model is associated with early recurrence, just as it is with the actual VETC status and early recurrence.RESULTS Alpha-fetoprotein_lg10,carbohydrate antigen 199,irregular shape,non-smooth margin, and arterial peritumoral enhancement were identified as independent predictors of VETC.The model incorporating these predictors demonstrated strong predictive performance. The AUC was 0.811 for the training set,0.800 for the test set,and 0.791 for the validation set.The calibration curve indicated that the predicted probability was consistent with the actual VETC status in all three sets.Furthermore, the decision curve analysis demonstrated the clinical benefits of our model for patients with sHCC.Finally, early recurrence was more likely to occur in the VETC-positive group compared to the VETC-negative group, regardless of whether considering the actual or predicted VETC status.CONCLUSION Our novel prediction model demonstrates strong performance in predicting VETC positivity in sHCC(≤3 cm)patients, and it holds potential for predicting early recurrence. This model equips clinicians with valuable information to make informed clinical treatment decisions. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Intracranial atherosclerosis,a leading cause of stroke, involves arterial plaque formation. This study explores the link between plaque remodelling patterns and diabetes using high-resolution vessel wall imaging(HR-VWI).AIM To investigate the factors of intracranial atherosclerotic remodelling patterns and the relationship between intracranial atherosclerotic remodelling and diabetes mellitus using HR-VWI.METHODS Ninety-four patients diagnosed with middle cerebral artery or basilar artery INTRODUCTION Intracranial atherosclerotic disease is one of the main causes of ischaemic stroke in the world, accounting for approx-imately 10%of transient ischaemic attacks and 30%-50%of ischaemic strokes[1].It is the most common factor among Asian people[2].The adaptive changes in the structure and function of blood vessels that can adapt to changes in the internal and external environment are called vascular remodelling, which is a common and important pathological mechanism in atherosclerotic diseases, and the remodelling mode of atherosclerotic plaques is closely related to the occurrence of stroke.Positive remodelling(PR)is an outwards compensatory remodelling where the arterial wall grows outwards in an attempt to maintain a constant lumen diameter. For a long time,it was believed that the degree of stenosis can accurately reflect the risk of ischaemic stroke[3-5].Previous studies have revealed that lesions without significant luminal stenosis can also lead to acute events[6,7],as summarized in a recent meta-analysis study in which approximately 50%of acute/subacute ischaemic events were due to this type of lesion[6].Research[8,9]has pointed out that the PR of plaques is more dangerous and more likely to cause acute ischaemic stroke.Previous studies[10-13]have found that there are specific vascular remodelling phenomena in the coronary and carotid arteries of diabetic patients. However, due to the deep location and small lumen of intracranial arteries and limitations of imaging techniques, the relationship between intracranial arterial remodelling and diabetes is still unclear. In recent years, with the development of magnetic resonance technology and the emergence of high-resolution(HR)vascular wall imaging,a clear and multidimensional display of the intracranial vascular wall has been achieved. Therefore,in this study,HR wall imaging(HR-VWI)was used to display the remodelling characteristics of bilateral middle cerebral arteries and basilar arteries and to explore the factors of intracranial vascular remodelling and its relationship with diabetes. 展开更多

The accurate and automatic segmentation of retinal vessels fromfundus images is critical for the early diagnosis and prevention ofmany eye diseases, such as diabetic retinopathy(DR).Existing retinal vessel segmentation approaches based on convolutional neural networks(CNNs)have achieved remarkable effectiveness. Here,we extend a retinal vessel segmentation model with low complexity and high performance based on U-Net,which is one of the most popular architectures. In view of the excellent work of depth-wise separable convolution,we introduce it to replace the standard convolutional layer. The complexity of the proposed model is reduced by decreasing the number of parameters and calculations required for themodel. To ensure performance while lowering redundant parameters,we integrate the pre-trained MobileNet V2 into the encoder. Then,a feature fusion residual module(FFRM)is designed to facilitate complementary strengths by enhancing the effective fusion between adjacent levels, which alleviates extraneous clutter introduced by direct fusion. Finally,we provide detailed comparisons between the proposed SepFE and U-Net in three retinal image mainstream datasets(DRIVE,STARE,and CHASEDB1).The results show that the number of SepFE parameters is only 3%of U-Net,the Flops are only 8%of U-Net,and better segmentation performance is obtained. The superiority of SepFE is further demonstrated through comparisons with other advanced methods. 展开更多

High-resolution underwater digital elevation models(DEMs)are important for water and soil conservation, hydrological analysis, and river channel dredging. In this work, the underwater topography of the Panjing River in Shanghai,China, was measured by an unmanned surface vessel.Five different interpolation methods were used to generate the underwater DEM and their precision and applicability for different underwater landforms were analyzed through cross-validation.The results showed that there was a positive correlation between the interpolation error and the terrain surface roughness. The five interpolation methods were all appropriate for the survey area, but their accuracy varied with different surface roughness.Based on the analysis results,an integrated approach was proposed to automatically select the appropriate interpolation method according to the different surface roughness in the surveying area. This approach improved the overall interpolation precision. The suggested technique provides a reference for the selection of interpolationmethods for underwater DEMdata. 展开更多

Retinal vessel segmentation in fundus images plays an essential role in the screening, diagnosis, and treatment of many diseases. The acquired fundus images generally have the following problems:uneven illumination, high noise, and complex structure. It makes vessel segmentation very challenging.Previous methods of retinal vascular segmentation mainly use convolutional neural networks on U Network(U-Net)models,and they have many limitations and shortcomings, such as the loss of microvascular details at the end of the vessels. We address the limitations of convolution by introducing the transformer into retinal vessel segmentation. Therefore,we propose a hybrid method for retinal vessel segmentation based on modulated deformable convolution and the transformer, named DT-Net.Firstly,multi-scale image features are extracted by deformable convolution and multi-head selfattention(MHSA).Secondly, image information is recovered, and vessel morphology is refined by the proposed transformer decoder block. Finally, the local prediction results are obtained by the side output layer. The accuracy of the vessel segmentation is improved by the hybrid loss function.Experimental results show that our method obtains good segmentation performance on Specificity(SP),Sensitivity(SE),Accuracy(ACC),Curve(AUC),and F1-score on three publicly available fundus datasets such as DRIVE,STARE,and CHASE_DB1. 展开更多

Fishing logbook records the fishing behaviors and other information of fishing vessels. However, the accuracy of the recorded information is often difficult to guarantee due to the misreport and concealment. The fishing vessel monitoring system(VMS)can monitor and record the navigation information of fishing vessels in real time, and it may be used to improve the accuracy of identifying the state of fishing vessels. If the VMS data and fishing logbook are combined to establish their relationships, then the navigation characteristics and fishing behavior of fishing vessels can be more accurately identified. Therefore, first,a method for determining the state of VMS data points using fishing log data was proposed.Secondly, the relationship between VMS data and the different states of fishing vessels was further explored.Thirdly, the state of the fishing vessel was predicted using VMS data by building machine learning models. The speed, heading, longitude, latitude, and time as features from the VMS data were extracted by matching the VMS and logbook data of three single otter trawl vessels from September 2012 to January 2013,and four machine learning models were established,i.e.,Random Forest(RF),Adaptive Boosting(AdaBoost),K-Nearest Neighbor(KNN),and Gradient Boosting Decision Tree(GBDT)to predict the behavior of fishing vessels. The prediction performances of the models were evaluated by using normalized confusion matrix and receiver operator characteristic curve. Results show that the importance rankings of spatial(longitude and latitude)and time features were higher than those of speed and heading. The prediction performances of the RF and AdaBoost models were higher than those of the KNN and GBDT models.RF model showed the highest prediction performance for fishing state.Meanwhile,AdaBoost model exhibited the highest prediction performance for non-fishing state. This study offered a technical basis for judging the navigation characteristics of fishing vessels, which improved the algorithm for judging the behavior of fishing vessels based on VMS data, enhanced the prediction accuracy, and upgraded the fishery management being more scientific and efficient. 展开更多

Biomedical image processing is finding useful in healthcare sector for the investigation, enhancement, and display of images gathered by distinct imaging technologies.Diabetic retinopathy(DR)is an illness caused by diabetes complications and leads to irreversible injury to the retina blood vessels.Retinal vessel segmentation techniques are a basic element of automated retinal disease screening system. In this view, this study presents a novel blood vessel segmentation with deep learning based classification(BVS-DLC)model forDRdiagnosis using retinal fundus images. The proposed BVS-DLC model involves different stages of operations such as preprocessing, segmentation, feature extraction, and classification.Primarily, the proposed model uses the median filtering(MF)technique to remove the noise that exists in the image. In addition,a multilevel thresholding based blood vessel segmentation process using seagull optimization(SGO)with Kapur’s entropy is performed. Moreover, the shark optimization algorithm(SOA)with Capsule Networks(CapsNet)model with softmax layer is employed for DR detection and classification.Awide range of simulations was performed on the MESSIDOR dataset and the results are investigated interms of different measures. The simulation results ensured the better performance of the proposed model compared to other existing techniques interms of sensitivity, specificity, receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve, accuracy, and F-score. 展开更多

Background: Creating a tunnel between the pancreas and splenic vessels followed by pancreatic parenchyma transection(“tunnel-first” strategy) has long been used in spleen-preserving distal pancreatectomy(SPDP) with splenic vessel preservation(Kimura’s procedure). However, the operation space is limited in the tunnel, leading to the risks of bleeding and difficulties in suturing. We adopted the pancreatic “parenchyma transection-first” strategy to optimize Kimura’s procedure. Methods: The clinical data of consecutive patients who underwent robotic SPDP with Kimura’s procedure between January 2017 and September 2022 at our center were retrieved. The cohort was classified into a “parenchyma transection-first” strategy(P-F) group and a “tunnel-first” strategy(T-F) group and analyzed. Results: A total of 91 patients were enrolled in this cohort, with 49 in the T-F group and 42 in the P-F group. Compared with the T-F group, the P-F group had significantly shorter operative time(146.1 ± 39.2 min vs. 174.9 ± 46.6 min, P < 0.01) and lower estimated blood loss [40.0(20.0–55.0) m L vs. 50.0(20.0–100.0) m L, P = 0.03]. Failure of splenic vessel preservation occurred in 10.2% patients in the TF group and 2.4% in the P-F group( P = 0.14). The grade 3/4 complications were similar between the two groups( P = 0.57). No differences in postoperative pancreatic fistula, abdominal infection or hemorrhage were observed between the two groups. Conclusions: The pancreatic “parenchyma transection-first” strategy is safe and feasible compared with traditional “tunnel-first strategy” in SPDP with Kimura’s procedure. 展开更多

The present study establishes a simple numerical model for the coupled response of a steel catenary riser(SCR) subjected to coplanar vessel motion and vortex-induced vibration(VIV). Owing to the large deflection of the SCR, the geometric nonlinearity is considered in this model. The hydrodynamic force comprises the excitation force and hydrodynamic damping, where the excitation force that only exists when the non-dimensional frequency is located in the lock-in range, is associated with the VIV. The hydrodynamic force model is validated based on the published VIV test data.As for the seabed resistance at the touchdown zone(TDZ), integrated with an initial seabed trench, the hysteretic feature is modeled. Based on the model, the study emphasizes on the coupled response characteristics near the touchdown point(TDP) induced by coplanar vessel heave and VIV, and analyzes the sensitivity of the coupled response to the heaving amplitude and frequency. It is found that with the increase of the heave amplitude and frequency, the VIV can be obviously mitigated, but the heave-related response in the coupled analysis seems to be close to that in the heave-only simulation. Finally, the fatigue damage near TDP is parametrically investigated based on the separate analysis and the coupled analysis. The results demonstrate that the coupled effect plays a significant role in the fatigue assessment near TDP. Besides, the proportion of the coupled effect accounting for the total fatigue damage decreases with the increasing seabed stiffness, while increases with the increasing seabed trench depth. 展开更多

Accurate localization of cranial nerves and responsible blood vessels is important for diagnosing trigeminal neuralgia(TN)and hemifacial spasm(HFS).Manual delineation of the nerves and vessels on medical images is time-consuming and labor-intensive.Due to the development of convolutional neural networks(CNNs),the performance of medical image segmentation has been improved. In this work,we investigate the plans for automated segmentation of cranial nerves and responsible vessels for TN and HFS,which has not been comprehensively studied before.Different inputs are given to the CNN to find the best training configuration of segmenting trigeminal nerves, facial nerves, responsible vessels and brainstem, including the image modality and the number of segmentation targets.According to multiple experiments with seven training plans,we suggest training with the combination of three-dimensional fast imaging employing steady-state acquisition(3D-FIESTA)and three-dimensional time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography(3DTOF-MRA),and separate segmentation of cranial nerves and vessels. 展开更多

This paper provides an improved model-free adaptive control(IMFAC)strategy for solving the surface vessel trajectory tracking issue with time delay and restricted disturbance.Firstly, the original nonlinear time-delay system is transformed into a structure consisting of an unknown residual term and a parameter term with control inputs using a local compact form dynamic linearization(local-CFDL).To take advantage of the resulting structure, use a discrete-time extended state observer(DESO)to estimate the unknown residual factor. Then, according to the study, the inclusion of a time delay has no effect on the linearization structure, and an improved control approach is provided,in which DESO is used to adjust for uncertainties.Furthermore,a DESO-based event-triggered model-free adaptive control(ET-DESO-MFAC)is established by designing event-triggered conditions to assure Lyapunov stability.Only when the system’s indicator fulfills the provided event-triggered condition will the control input signal be updated;otherwise, the control input will stay the same as it is at the last trigger moment.A coordinate compensation approach is developed to reduce the steady-state inaccuracy of trajectory tracking. Finally, simulation experiments are used to assess the effectiveness of the proposed technique for trajectory tracking. 展开更多

AIM:To compare the macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer(GCIPL)thickness, retinal nerve fiber layer(RNFL)thickness, optic nerve head(ONH)parameters, and retinal vessel density(VD)measured by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT)and analyze the correlations between them in the early, moderate, severe primary angle-closure glaucoma(PACG)and normal eyes.METHODS:Totally 70 PACG eyes and 20 normal eyes were recruited for this retrospective analysis.PACG eyes were further separated into early, moderate,or severe PACG eyes using the Enhanced Glaucoma Staging System(GSS2).The GCIPL thickness,RNFL thickness,ONH parameters, and retinal VD were measured by SD-OCT,differences among the groups and correlations within the same group were calculated.RESULTS:The inferior and superotemporal sectors of the GCIPL thickness, rim area of ONH,average and inferior sector of the retinal VD were significantly reduced(all P<0.05)in the early PACG eyes compared to the normal and the optic disc area, cup to disc ratio(C/D),and cup volume were significantly higher(all P<0.05);but the RNFL was not significant changes in early and moderate PACG.In severe group, the GCIPL and RNFL thickness were obvious thinning with retinal VD were decreasing as well as C/D and cup volume increasing than other three groups(all P<0.01).In the early PACG subgroup, there were significant positive correlations between retinal VD and GCIPL thickness(except superonasal and inferonasal sectors,r=0.573 to 0.641,all P<0.05),superior sectors of RNFL thickness(r=0.055,P=0.049).More obvious significant positive correlations were existed in moderate PACG eyes between retinal VD and superior sectors of RNFL thickness(r=0.650,P=0.022),and temporal sectors of RNFL thickness(r=0.740,P=0.006).In the severe PACG eyes, neither GCIPL nor RNFL thickness was associated with retinal VD.CONCLUSION:The ONH damage and retinal VD loss appears earlier than RNFL thickness loss in PACG eyes.As the PACG disease progressed from the early to the moderate stage, the correlations between the retinal VD and RNFL thickness increases. 展开更多
