Migraine patients were divided into the ≤2 migraine attacks per month group and the ≥5 migraine attacks per month group. All subjects underwent complete ophthalmological and neurological examinations before measurements. Retinal vessel diameters and choroidal thickness were examined with the Spectralis OCT.RESULTS:The mean diameters of the arteries in the eyes on the headache side of control group,≥5 migraine attacks per month and ≤2 migraine attacks per month group at 480 μm from the optic disk(Raster 3)were 119.54±46.69,136.68±25.93 and 119.34±31.75 μm respectively with a steady decline to 105.57±32.15,118.18±31.87 and 108.05±38.77 μm at 1440 μm(Raster 7),the last measurement point,respectively. The retinal artery diameter measurements were significantly increased in ≥5 migraine attacks per month patients at four out of five measured points compared to control group(P〈0.05). There were no statistical differences at any of the points of vein measurements. The choroidal thickness measurements were significantly decreased in ≥5 migraine attacks per month patients at all measured points compared to control group(P〈0.05).CONCLUSION:The retinal artery diameter is found to increase significantly and the choroidal thickness is found to decrease in the eyes on the headache side in ≥5 migraine attacks per month patients compared to control group.展开更多
BACKGROUND Recently,hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy(HAIC)plus lenvatinib has been frequently used to treat unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma(uHCC)in China.In the clinic,the hepatic arteries of some patients...BACKGROUND Recently,hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy(HAIC)plus lenvatinib has been frequently used to treat unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma(uHCC)in China.In the clinic,the hepatic arteries of some patients shrink significantly during this treatment,leading to improved short-term efficacy.AIM To investigate the relationship between the shrinkage of hepatic arteries and the short-term effect of HAIC plus lenvatinib treatment.METHODS Sixty-seven participants with uHCC were enrolled in this retrospective study.The patients received HAIC every 3 wk,followed by oral lenvatinib after the first HAIC course.Hepatic artery diameters were measured on CT before treatment and after 1 and 2 mo of treatment.Meanwhile,the changes in tumor capillaries were also examined on pathological specimens before and after 1 mo of treatment.The antitumor response after 1,3,and 6 mo of treatment was assessed using the modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors(mRECIST).The relationship between the changes in vessel diameters and the short-term effect of the combination treatment was evaluated by receiver-operating characteristic and logistic regression analyses.RESULTS The hepatic artery diameters were all significantly decreased after 1 and 2 mo of treatment(P<0.001),but there was no difference in the vessel diameters between 1 and 2 mo(P>0.05).The microvessel density in the tumor lesions decreased significantly after 1 mo of combination treatment(P<0.001).According to mRECIST,46,41,and 24 patients had complete or partial responses after 1,3,and 6 mo of treatment,respectively,whereas 21,21,and 32 patients had a stable or progressive disease at these times,respectively.Shrinkage of the tumor-feeding artery was significantly associated with the tumor response after 1,3,and 6 mo of treatment(P<0.001,P=0.004,and P=0.023,respectively);however,changes in other hepatic arteries were not significantly associated with the tumor response.Furthermore,shrinkage of the tumor-feeding artery was an independent factor for treatment efficacy(P=0.001,P=0.001,and P=0.002 and 1,3,and 6 mo,respectively).CONCLUSION The hepatic arteries shrank rapidly after treatment with HAIC plus lenvatinib,and shrinkage of the tumor-feeding artery diameter was closely related to improved short-term efficacy.展开更多
To date,several off-the-shelf products such as artificial blood vessel grafts have been reported and clinically tested for small diameter vessel(SDV)replacement.However,conventional artificial blood vessel grafts lack...To date,several off-the-shelf products such as artificial blood vessel grafts have been reported and clinically tested for small diameter vessel(SDV)replacement.However,conventional artificial blood vessel grafts lack endothelium and,thus,are not ideal for SDV transplantation as they can cause thrombosis.In addition,a suc-cessful artificial blood vessel graft for SDV must have sufficient mechanical properties to withstand various external stresses.Here,we developed a spontaneous cellular assembly SDV(S-SDV)that develops without additional intervention.By improving the dragging 3D printing technique,SDV constructs with free-form,multilayers and controllable pore size can be fabricated at once.Then,The S-SDV filled in the natural poly-mer bioink containing human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs)and human aorta smooth muscle cells(HAoSMCs).The endothelium can be induced by migration and self-assembly of endothelial cells through pores of the SDV construct.The antiplatelet adhesion of the formed endothelium on the luminal surface was also confirmed.In addition,this S-SDV had sufficient mechanical properties(burst pressure,suture retention,leakage test)for transplantation.We believe that the S-SDV could address the challenges of conventional SDVs:notably,endothelial formation and mechanical properties.In particular,the S-SDV can be designed simply as a free-form structure with a desired pore size.Since endothelial formation through the pore is easy even in free-form con-structs,it is expected to be useful for endothelial formation in vascular structures with branch or curve shapes,and in other tubular tissues such as the esophagus.展开更多
Purpose:This study examined the effect of handgrip exercise on hemodynamic indices to determine the most effective regimen for promoting blood circulation.Methods:Healthy individuals were divided into three treatment ...Purpose:This study examined the effect of handgrip exercise on hemodynamic indices to determine the most effective regimen for promoting blood circulation.Methods:Healthy individuals were divided into three treatment groups with each performing exercises using an electronic handgrip.Groups performed exercises to determine the most appropriate tap position,frequency,and duration.The hemodynamic indices were measured by Doppler ultrasound.Results:The best handgrip position was the weak tap position.Venous blood flow velocity and blood flow increased significantly with each exercise relative to the resting state(p<0.01).Venous blood flow velocity and blood flow peaked with handgrip exercise frequency of 25 times/min for 2 min(p<0.01).No significant differences were observed between sexes.Conclusion:Handgrip exercise is an effective method for improving blood circulation in the upper extremities.展开更多
AIM:To evaluate retinal nerve fiber layer thickness and retinal vascular caliber alterations in coal mine workers.METHODS:The community-based observational crosssectional study included 4004 participants of a subpopul...AIM:To evaluate retinal nerve fiber layer thickness and retinal vascular caliber alterations in coal mine workers.METHODS:The community-based observational crosssectional study included 4004 participants of a subpopulation of the Kailuan Study.All the study participants underwent structured interviews with a standardized questionnaire,fundus photography and spectral-domain optical coherence tomography(OCT)examinations performed by trained doctors.RESULTS:The retinal nerve fiber layer thickness was significantly higher(P=0.006)and the central macular thickness was lower in coal miners(n=659,51.0±7.8 y)as compared to the control(working above the ground;n=477,51.8±7.5 y;P=0.032).Additionally,the downhole workers showed a significantly thicker retinal artery(P=0.012)and vein diameters(P<0.001).In multivariable regression,a thicker retinal nerve fiber layer was associated with a higher cumulative silica dust exposure(P=0.005)after adjusting for younger age and larger spherical equivalent.In a reverse pattern,a higher cumulative silica dust exposure(P=0.004)was significantly associated with a thicker retinal nerve fiber layer after adjusting for age,high-density lipoproteins and uric acid.Wider retinal vein diameters were associated with higher cumulative silica dust exposure(P=0.036)after adjusting for younger age and larger spherical equivalent.CONCLUSION:The retinal vessels diameters and retinal nerve fiber layer thickness are significantly thicker in long term of coal mining.The results of our study indicate that underground working environment may lead to retinal vessel dilation and inflammation.Thus,ocular examination might be needed within coal miners in order to monitor the occupational eye health as well as the incidence and progression of eye diseases.展开更多
