Improved Dissipation Rate Equation for Swirling and Rotating Pipe Flows

The nature of turbulent swirling and rotating flow in a straight pipe is investigated using a family of near-wall two-equation models. Specifically, the viability of three different near-wall two-equation models is assessed. These models are asymptotically consistent near the wall. The first two models, one with isotropic and another with anisotropic eddy viscosity invoked, solved a dissipation rate equation with no explicit correction made to account for swirl and flow rotation. The third model assumes an isotropic eddy viscosity but solves an improved dissipation rate equation that has explicit corrections made to account for swirl and flow rotation. Calculations of turbulent flows in the swirl number range 0.25 - 1.3 with and without a central recirculation region reveal that, with the exception of the third model, neither one of the other two models can replicate the mean field at the swirl numbers tested. Furthermore, taking stress anisotropy into account also fails to model swirl effect correctly. Significant improvements can be realized from the third model, which is based on an improved dissipation rate equation and the assumption of isotropic eddy viscosity. The predicted mean flow and turbulence statistics correlate well with measurements at low swirl. At high swirl, the two-equation model with an improved dissipation rate equation can still be used to model swirling and rotating pipe flows with a central recirculation region. However, its simulation of flows without a central recirculation region is not as satisfactory. 展开更多

Constant stress tensile creep tests wereused to medsure the values of steady state creeprate, ε<sub>s</sub>, and the consecutive stress reductionmethod was used to measure the back stress duringcreep deformation. The values of effective stressexponent, n<sub>e</sub>, were detemined from the slopesof the lgε<sub>s</sub> vs. lg(σ<sub>a</sub>-σ<sub>0</sub>)/G plots. The effectof grain size, d, on steady state creep rdtehas been also studied in this investigation,and the grain size sensitive exponents m weredetemined from the slopes of lgε<sub>s</sub> vs. lg(b/d)plots. "Capture efficiency" f(a) is introducedinto the rate equation to reflect the influence of energy hairier on the attachment rate. Three typical situations of particle-bubble interaction in flotation process have been discussed. For a completely hydrophobic particle-bubble system,f(a) = 1. This means that all collision leads to attachment. Whereas for hydrophilic particle-bubble systems, .f(a) =0. Thus no adhesion of particle on bubble occurs at all. In real notation circumstances, however, there always existsa certain energy barrier between the particle and the bubble. Therefore, f(a) = 0~1. An analysis solution of rate equation is derived for vertical cavity surface-emitting lasers. Based on the enhanced spontaneous emission caused by VCSELs and influence of nonradiative recombination, the relation between output properties and structural parameters of multi-quantum wells (MQWs) is obtained. It was found that the characteristic curve of a“thresholdless”laser is strongly nonradiative depopulation-dependent. When the nonradiative depopulation is no zero, the light-current characteristic is not linearly even for an ideal closed microcavity. The light output is increased by the enhanced well number and by the reduced width. In particular, a lower threshold current density for MQW structure in the short cavity is realized by us, meanwhile the sharpness of the variation depends on spontaneous emission factor. 展开更多

Due to its mechanical properties and ease of use, vinyl ester resin is enjoying increasing consideration. This resin normally is produced by reaction between epoxy resin and unsaturated carboxylic acid. In the present study, bis-phenol A based epoxy resin and methacrylic acid was used to produce vinyl ester resin. The reaction was conducted under both stoichiometric and non-stoichiometric conditions in the presence of triphenylphosphine as catalyst. The stoichiometric and non-stoichiometric experiments were conducted at 95, 100, 105 and 110℃and at 90 and 95℃, respectively. The first order rate equation and mechanism based rate equation were examined. Parameters are evaluated by least square method. A comparison of mechanism based rate equation and experimental data show an excellent agreement. Finally, Arrhenius equation and activation energy were presented. 展开更多

Anovel accuratemethod is proposed to solve a broad variety of linear and nonlinear(1+1)-dimensional and(2+1)-dimensional multi-term time-fractional partial differential equations with spatial operators of anisotropic diffusivity.For(1+1)-dimensional problems,analytical solutions that satisfy the boundary requirements are derived.Such solutions are numerically calculated using the trigonometric basis approximation for(2+1)-dimensional problems.With the aid of these analytical or numerical approximations,the original problems can be converted into the fractional ordinary differential equations,and solutions to the fractional ordinary differential equations are approximated by modified radial basis functions with time-dependent coefficients.An efficient backward substitution strategy that was previously provided for a single fractional ordinary differential equation is then used to solve the corresponding systems.The straightforward quasilinearization technique is applied to handle nonlinear issues.Numerical experiments demonstrate the suggested algorithm’s superior accuracy and efficiency. 展开更多

This study investigates the efficacy of the Mathematics Independent Learning Activity Practice and Play Unite Scheme(MILAPlus)as an instructional strategy to improve the proficiency levels of Grade 9 students in quadratic equations and functions through a study carried out at Quezon National High School.The research involved 116 Grade 9 students and utilized a quantitative approach,incorporating both pre-assessment and post-assessment measures.The research utilizes a quasi-experimental design,examining the academic performance of students before and after the introduction of MILAPlus.The pre-assessment establishes a baseline,and the subsequent post-assessment measures the impact of the instructional strategy.Statistical analyses,including t-tests,assess the significance of differences in mean scores and mean percentage scores,providing quantitative insights into the effectiveness of MILAPlus.Findings from the study revealed a statistically significant improvement in both mean scores and mean percentage scores after the utilization of MILAPlus,indicating enhanced proficiency in quadratic equations and functions.The Mean Proficiency Scores(MPS)also showed a substantial increase,demonstrating a marked improvement in overall proficiency levels among Grade 9 students.In light of the results,recommendations were given including the continued utilization of MILAPlus as an instructional strategy and aligning its development with prescribed learning competencies.Emphasizing the consistent adherence to policies and guidelines for MILAPlus implementation is suggested for sustaining positive effects on students’long-term performance in mathematics.This research contributes valuable insights into the practical application and effectiveness of MILAPlus within the context of Grade 9 mathematics education at Quezon National High School. 展开更多

Quantitative evaluation of gas hydrate reservoir by AVO attributes analysis based on the Brekhovskikh equation

AVO (Amplitude variation with offset) technology is widely used in gas hydrate research. BSR (Bottom simulating reflector), caused by the huge difference in wave impedance between the hydrate reservoir and the underlying free gas reservoir, is the bottom boundary mark of the hydrate reservoir. Analyzing the AVO attributes of BSR can evaluate hydrate reservoirs. However, the Zoeppritz equation which is the theoretical basis of conventional AVO technology has inherent problems: the Zoeppritz equation does not consider the influence of thin layer thickness on reflection coefficients;the approximation of the Zoeppritz equation assumes that the difference of wave impedance between the two sides of the interface is small. These assumptions are not consistent with the occurrence characteristics of natural gas hydrate. The Brekhovskikh equation, which is more suitable for thin-layer reflection coefficient calculation, is used as the theoretical basis for AVO analysis. The reflection coefficients calculated by the Brekhovskikh equation are complex numbers with phase angles. Therefore, attributes of the reflection coefficient and its phase angle changing with offset are used to analyze the hydrate reservoir's porosity, saturation, and thickness. Finally, the random forest algorithm is used to predict the reservoir porosity, hydrate saturation, and thickness of the hydrate reservoir. In the synthetic data, the inversion results based on the four attributes of the Brekhovskikh equation are better than the conventional inversion results based on the two attributes of Zoeppritz, and the thickness can be accurately predicted. The proposed method also achieves good results in the application of Blake Ridge data. According to the method proposed in this paper, the hydrate reservoir in the area has a high porosity (more than 50%), and a medium saturation (between 10% and 20%). The thickness is mainly between 200m and 300m. It is consistent with the previous results obtained by velocity analysis. 展开更多

We derive the multi-hump nondegenerate solitons for the(2+1)-dimensional coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations with propagation distance dependent diffraction,nonlinearity and gain(loss)using the developing Hirota bilinear method,and analyze the dynamical behaviors of these nondegenerate solitons.The results show that the shapes of the nondegenerate solitons are controllable by selecting different wave numbers,varying diffraction and nonlinearity parameters.In addition,when all the variable coefficients are chosen to be constant,the solutions obtained in this study reduce to the shape-preserving nondegenerate solitons.Finally,it is found that the nondegenerate two-soliton solutions can be bounded to form a double-hump two-soliton molecule after making the velocity of one double-hump soliton resonate with that of the other one. 展开更多

Pulse rate is one of the important characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine pulse diagnosis,and it is of great significance for determining the nature of cold and heat in diseases.The prediction of pulse rate based on facial video is an exciting research field for getting palpation information by observation diagnosis.However,most studies focus on optimizing the algorithm based on a small sample of participants without systematically investigating multiple influencing factors.A total of 209 participants and 2,435 facial videos,based on our self-constructed Multi-Scene Sign Dataset and the public datasets,were used to perform a multi-level and multi-factor comprehensive comparison.The effects of different datasets,blood volume pulse signal extraction algorithms,region of interests,time windows,color spaces,pulse rate calculation methods,and video recording scenes were analyzed.Furthermore,we proposed a blood volume pulse signal quality optimization strategy based on the inverse Fourier transform and an improvement strategy for pulse rate estimation based on signal-to-noise ratio threshold sliding.We found that the effects of video estimation of pulse rate in the Multi-Scene Sign Dataset and Pulse Rate Detection Dataset were better than in other datasets.Compared with Fast independent component analysis and Single Channel algorithms,chrominance-based method and plane-orthogonal-to-skin algorithms have a more vital anti-interference ability and higher robustness.The performances of the five-organs fusion area and the full-face area were better than that of single sub-regions,and the fewer motion artifacts and better lighting can improve the precision of pulse rate estimation. 展开更多
