Deeply subwavelength lasers(or nanolasers)are highly demanded for compact on-chip bioimaging and sensing at the nanoscale.One of the main obstacles for the development of single-particle nanolasers with all three dime...Deeply subwavelength lasers(or nanolasers)are highly demanded for compact on-chip bioimaging and sensing at the nanoscale.One of the main obstacles for the development of single-particle nanolasers with all three dimensions shorter than the emitting wavelength in the visible range is the high lasing thresholds and the resulting overheating.Here we ex-ploit exciton-polariton condensation and mirror-image Mie modes in a cuboid CsPbBr3 nanoparticle to achieve coherent emission at the visible wavelength of around 0.53μm from its ultra-small(≈0.007μm3 or≈λ3/20)semiconductor nanocav-ity.The polaritonic nature of the emission from the nanocavity localized in all three dimensions is proven by direct com-parison with corresponding one-dimensional and two-dimensional waveguiding systems with similar material parameters.Such a deeply subwavelength nanolaser is enabled not only by the high values for exciton binding energy(≈35 meV),re-fractive index(>2.5 at low temperature),and luminescence quantum yield of CsPbBr3,but also by the optimization of po-laritons condensation on the Mie resonances with quality factors improved by the metallic substrate.Moreover,the key parameters for optimal lasing conditions are intermode free spectral range and phonons spectrum in CsPbBr3,which govern polaritons condensation path.Such chemically synthesized colloidal CsPbBr3 nanolasers can be potentially de-posited on arbitrary surfaces,which makes them a versatile tool for integration with various on-chip systems.展开更多

METHODS:We performed semi-quantitative RT-PCR to examine the expression level of bak,bax,bcl-2 and bcl-x_L in 70% hepatectomized rat livers during the whole regeneration process and compared to that of the sham and normal groups. RESULTS:The expression of bak and bax was decreased whereas that of bcl-2and bd-X_L was increased in hepatectomized animals compared to normal liver at most time points.We also reported for the first time that sham group of animals had statistically significant higher expression of bak and bax than hepatectomized animals.In addition,the area under the curve (AUC) values of these genes was larger in sham groups than the hepatectomized groups. CONCLUSION:The expression changes of bak,bax,bcl-2 and bcl-X_L genes are altered not only due to regeneration, but also due to effects of surgical operations.展开更多
AIM: To determine the mutation status of human telomerase reverse transcriptase gene(TERT) promoter region in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) from different geographical regions.METHODS: We analyzed the genomic DNA sequ...AIM: To determine the mutation status of human telomerase reverse transcriptase gene(TERT) promoter region in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) from different geographical regions.METHODS: We analyzed the genomic DNA sequences of 59 HCC samples comprising 15 cell lines and 44 primary tumors,collected from patients living in Asia,Europe and Africa.We amplified a 474 bp DNA fragment of the promoter region of TERT gene including the 1295228 and 1295250 sequence of chromosome 5 by using PCR.Amplicons were then sequenced by Sanger technique and the sequence data were analyzed with by using DNADynamo software in comparison with wild type TERT gene sequence as a reference.RESULTS: The TERT mutations were found highly frequent in HCC.Eight of the fifteen tested cell lines displayed C228 T mutation,and one had C250 T mutation with a mutation frequency up to 60%.All of the mutations were heterozygous and mutually exclusive.Ten out of forty-four tumors displayed C228 T mutation,and additional five tumors had C250 T mutation providing evidence for mutation frequency of 34% in primary tumors.Considering the geographic origins of HCC tumors tested,TERT promoter mutation frequencies were higher in African(53%),when compared to non-African(24%) tumors(P = 0.056).There was also a weak inverse correlation between TERT promoter mutations and murine double minute 2 single nucleotide polymorphism 309 TG polymorphism(P = 0.058).Mutation frequency was nearly two times higher in established HCC celllines(60%) compared to the primary tumors(34%).CONCLUSION: TERT promoter is one of most frequent mutational targets in liver cancer,and hepatocellular carcinogenesis is highly associated with the loss of telomere-dependent cellular senescence control.展开更多
Lithium metal is the ultimate anode choice for high energy rechargeable lithium batteries owing to its ultra-high theoretical capacity,however,Li dendrites and low Coulombic efficiency(CE)caused by disordered Li plati...Lithium metal is the ultimate anode choice for high energy rechargeable lithium batteries owing to its ultra-high theoretical capacity,however,Li dendrites and low Coulombic efficiency(CE)caused by disordered Li plating restrict its practical application.Herein,we develop an ultrathin Sn-decorated Cu substrate(Sn@Cu)fabricated by an electroless plating method to induce ordered Li nucleation and growth behavior.The lithiophilic Sn interfacial layer is found to play a critical role to lower the Li nucleation over-potential and promote fast Li-migration kinetics,and the underlying mechanism is revealed using the first principle calculations.Accordingly,a dense dendrite-free and Li deposition with large granular morphology is obtained,which significantly improved the CE and cycling performance of Li‖Sn@Cu half cells symmetric cells.Symmetric cells using the Li-Sn@Cu electrode display a much-prolonged life span(>1200 h)with low overpotential(~18 mV)at a high current density of 1 mA cm^(-2).Moreover,full cells paired with commercial LiFePO_(4) cathode(1.8 mAh cm^(-2))deliver enhanced cycling stability(0.5 C,300 cycles)and excellent rate performance.This work provides a simple and effective way to bring about high efficiency and long lifespan substrates for practical applications.展开更多
We investigate the significance of extreme positive returns in the cross-sectional pricing of cryptocurrencies.Through portfolio-level analyses and weekly cross-sectional regressions on all cryptocurrencies in our sam...We investigate the significance of extreme positive returns in the cross-sectional pricing of cryptocurrencies.Through portfolio-level analyses and weekly cross-sectional regressions on all cryptocurrencies in our sample period,we provide evidence for a positive and statistically significant relationship between the maximum daily return within the previous month(MAX)and the expected returns on cryptocurrencies.In particular,the univariate portfolio analysis shows that weekly average raw and riskadjusted return differences between portfolios of cryptocurrencies with the highest and lowest MAX deciles are 3.03%and 1.99%,respectively.The results are robust with respect to the differences in size,price,momentum,short-term reversal,liquidity,volatility,skewness,and investor sentiment.展开更多

Because, ionosondes which are special types of radars probing the ionosphere with certain HF frequencies(between 2 and 30 MHz), work mostly in NVIS mode(where elevation angle is between 89 and 90°). In this work, we are going to propose a new method for NVIS wave propagation in the ionosphere by discretizing the NVIS wave propagation path into mediums in which the refractive index changes linearly, where we solve the ray propagation in each medium analytically using calculus of variations and use Snell's Law at medium changes. The main advantage of the proposed solution is the reduced computational complexity and time. This algorithm can be used to simulate and compare the behavior of vertical ionosondes together with other ray tracing algorithms.展开更多

It is shown that, with decreasing temperature the anisotropy parameter γHc2 (T) is increased, while the London penetration depth anisotropy γλ(T) reveals an opposite behavior. This is not to state a criticism of neocolonial values upon which the city is built in opposition to the ghetto but rather of demonstrating the extent to which the white city and the ghetto are already deeply implicated within each other. In a ghetto novel, the white city is the subtext that we must recover, because history of ghetto formation itself is the subject of its discourse. Revaluation of the ghetto prepares us for later attempts to revive an urban and "ghettocentric" American identity. In contrast to some ghetto fiction where the ghetto is denounced as a place adverse to emancipatory "progress", Nicholasa Mohr's literary ghetto in Nilda (I 986) is not a narrative reinforcing the stereotypical representations of how racioethnic urban life and violent crime define each other. Studies have demonstrated equivocal results in biological and behavioral outcomes of aging. Thus, in the present study we examined the novel object recognition task at a delay period that has been shown to be impaired in aged rats of two different strains. Moreover, we used a strain of rats, Fisher 344XBrown Norway, which have published age-related biological changes in the brain. Young (10 month old) and aged (28 month old) rats were tested on a standard novel object recognition task with a 50-minute delay period. The data showed that young and aged rats in the strain we used performed equally well on the novel object recognition task and that both young and old rats demonstrated a righthanded side preference for the novel object. Our data suggested that novel object recognition is not impaired in aged rats although both young and old rats have a demonstrated side preference. Thus, it may be that genetic differences across strains contribute to the equivocal results in behavior, and genetic variance likely influences the course of cognitive aging.展开更多

However, research on current design practice showed that there is a lack of systematic evaluation and revitalization methods. Hence, the main objective of the proposed UHEM model is to evaluate existing residential environments and requalify them with respect to an inclusive approach. The study concludes by highlighting the importance of UHEM from two points of view: (i) the importance of a systematic evaluation approach to effectively deal with the challenge of requalifying the residential environments and (ii) the designers' key role during the revitalization process.展开更多

The structure of the electron density is a function of spatio-temporal variables. The electrodynamic medium is also influenced with earth’s magnetic field, atmospheric chemistry and plasma flow and diffusion under earth’s gravitation. Thus, the unified dynamo equation for the ionosphere is a second order partial differential equation for quasi-static electric potential with variable spatial coefficients. In this study, the inhomogeneous and anisotropic nature of ionosphere that can be formulated as a divergence equation is solved numerically using Finite Volume Method for the first time. The ionosphere and the operators are discretized for the midlatitude region and the solution domain is investigated for Dirichlet type boundary conditions that are built in into the diffusion equation. The analysis indicates that FVM can be a powerful tool in obtaining parametric electrostatic potential distribution in ionosphere.展开更多

Large-area lasers are practical for generating high output powers.However,this often comes at the expense of lower beam quality due to the introduction of higher-order modes.Here,we experimentally demonstrate a new ty...Large-area lasers are practical for generating high output powers.However,this often comes at the expense of lower beam quality due to the introduction of higher-order modes.Here,we experimentally demonstrate a new type of electrically pumped,large-area edge-emitting lasers that exhibit a high power emission(~0.4 W)and a high-quality beam(M^(2)~1.25).These favorable operational characteristics are enabled by establishing a quasi PT-symmetry between the second-order mode of a large area two-mode laser cavity and that of a single-mode auxiliary partner cavity,i.e.,by implementing a partial isospectrality between the two coupled cavities.This in turn enlarges the effective volume of the higher-order modes.As a result,a selective pump applied via current injection into the main laser cavity can provide a stronger modal gain to the fundamental mode,and thus lead to lasing in the single mode regime after filtering out higher order transverse modes.The reported experimental results confirm this intuitive picture and are in good agreement with both theoretical and numerical analysis.Above all,the employed material platform and fabrication process are compatible with the industrial standards of semiconductor lasers.This work provides the frst clear demonstration,beyond previous proof-of-concept studies,of the utility of PT-symmetry in building laser geometries with enhanced performance and,at the same time,useful output power levels and emission Cndidclerisuics.展开更多

文摘Lithium metal is the ultimate anode choice for high energy rechargeable lithium batteries owing to its ultra-high theoretical capacity,however,Li dendrites and low Coulombic efficiency(CE)caused by disordered Li plating restrict its practical application.Herein,we develop an ultrathin Sn-decorated Cu substrate(Sn@Cu)fabricated by an electroless plating method to induce ordered Li nucleation and growth behavior.The lithiophilic Sn interfacial layer is found to play a critical role to lower the Li nucleation over-potential and promote fast Li-migration kinetics,and the underlying mechanism is revealed using the first principle calculations.Accordingly,a dense dendrite-free and Li deposition with large granular morphology is obtained,which significantly improved the CE and cycling performance of Li‖Sn@Cu half cells symmetric cells.Symmetric cells using the Li-Sn@Cu electrode display a much-prolonged life span(>1200 h)with low overpotential(~18 mV)at a high current density of 1 mA cm^(-2).Moreover,full cells paired with commercial LiFePO_(4) cathode(1.8 mAh cm^(-2))deliver enhanced cycling stability(0.5 C,300 cycles)and excellent rate performance.This work provides a simple and effective way to bring about high efficiency and long lifespan substrates for practical applications.
文摘We investigate the significance of extreme positive returns in the cross-sectional pricing of cryptocurrencies.Through portfolio-level analyses and weekly cross-sectional regressions on all cryptocurrencies in our sample period,we provide evidence for a positive and statistically significant relationship between the maximum daily return within the previous month(MAX)and the expected returns on cryptocurrencies.In particular,the univariate portfolio analysis shows that weekly average raw and riskadjusted return differences between portfolios of cryptocurrencies with the highest and lowest MAX deciles are 3.03%and 1.99%,respectively.The results are robust with respect to the differences in size,price,momentum,short-term reversal,liquidity,volatility,skewness,and investor sentiment.
文摘A new formulation for tracking multiple particles in slow viscous flow for microfluidic applications is presented.The method employs the manipulation of the boundary element matrices so that finally a system of equations is obtained relating the rigid body velocities of the particle to the forces applied on the particle.The formulation is specially designed for particle trajectory tracking and involves successive matrix multiplications for which SMP(Symmetric multiprocessing)parallelisation is applied.It is observed that present formulation offers an efficient numerical model to be used for particle tracking and can easily be extended for multiphysics simulations in which several physics involved.
文摘This paper examines the high frequency multiscale relationships and nonlinear multiscale causality between Bitcoin,Ethereum,Monero,Dash,Ripple,and Litecoin.We apply nonlinear Granger causality and rolling window wavelet correlation(RWCC)to 15 min-data.Empirical RWCC results indicate mostly positive co-movements and long-term memory between the cryptocurrencies,especially between Bitcoin,Ethereum,and Monero.The nonlinear Granger causality tests reveal dual causation between most of the cryptocurrency pairs.We advance evidence to improve portfolio risk assessment,and hedging strategies.
文摘In this work, we have investigated the electronic and optical properties of the technologically important rare earth oxide compounds—X2O3 (X: Gd, Tb) using the density functional theory within the GGA. The band structure of X2O3 have been calculated along high symmetry directions in the first brillouin zone. The real and imaginary parts of dilectric functions and the other optical responses such as energy-loss function, the effective number of valence electrons and the effective optical dielectric constants of the rare earth sesquioxides (Gd2O3 and Tb2O3) were calculated.

文摘Carbyne-enriched nanomaterials are of current interest in nanotechnology-related applications.The properties of these nanomaterials greatly depend on their production process.In particular,structural self-organization and auto-synchronization of nanostructures are typical phenomena observed during the growth and heteroatom-doping of carbyne-enriched nanostructured metamaterials by the ion-assisted pulse-plasma deposition method.Accordingly,fine tuning of these processes may be seen as the key step to the predictive designing of carbyneenriched nano-matrices with improved properties.In particular,we propose an innovative concept,connected with application of the vibrational-acoustic effects and based on universal Cymatics mechanisms.These effects are used to induce vibration-assisted self-organized wave patterns together with the simultaneous manipulation of their properties through an electric field.Interaction between the inhomogeneous electric field distribution generated on the vibrating layer and the plasma ions serves as the additional energizing factor controlling the local pattern formation and self-organization of the nano-structures.
文摘Modeling Near Vertical Incidence Sounding(NVIS) High Frequency(HF) signal propagation in the ionosphere is important. Because, ionosondes which are special types of radars probing the ionosphere with certain HF frequencies(between 2 and 30 MHz), work mostly in NVIS mode(where elevation angle is between 89 and 90°). In this work, we are going to propose a new method for NVIS wave propagation in the ionosphere by discretizing the NVIS wave propagation path into mediums in which the refractive index changes linearly, where we solve the ray propagation in each medium analytically using calculus of variations and use Snell's Law at medium changes. The main advantage of the proposed solution is the reduced computational complexity and time. This algorithm can be used to simulate and compare the behavior of vertical ionosondes together with other ray tracing algorithms.
文摘The temperature dependence of the anisotropy parameter of upper critical field γHe2 (T) = Hc2^‖ (T) /Hc2^⊥ (T) and London penetration depth γλ (T) = λ‖(T)/λ⊥ (T) are calculated using two-band Ginzburg-Landau theory for layered superconductors. It is shown that, with decreasing temperature the anisotropy parameter γHc2 (T) is increased, while the London penetration depth anisotropy γλ(T) reveals an opposite behavior. Results of our calculations are in agreement with experimental data for single crystal MgB2 and with other calculations..Results of an analysis of magnetic field Hc1 in a single vortex between superconducting layers are also presented.

When considered in the light of ecocriticism, Sidney's sonnets provide a suitable ground for the modem readers to reevaluate the current situation of the world we live in and the nature that we inherit from our ancestors. This paper aims to analyze some of Sidney's selected sonnets from Astrophil and Stella in the light of ecocritical approach to literary works.
文摘Although ghetto fiction is concerned with the geographical peripheries of white metropolis, its long-term strategy is to effect a radical restructuring of cityscape. This is not to state a criticism of neocolonial values upon which the city is built in opposition to the ghetto but rather of demonstrating the extent to which the white city and the ghetto are already deeply implicated within each other. In a ghetto novel, the white city is the subtext that we must recover, because history of ghetto formation itself is the subject of its discourse. Revaluation of the ghetto prepares us for later attempts to revive an urban and "ghettocentric" American identity. In contrast to some ghetto fiction where the ghetto is denounced as a place adverse to emancipatory "progress", Nicholasa Mohr's literary ghetto in Nilda (I 986) is not a narrative reinforcing the stereotypical representations of how racioethnic urban life and violent crime define each other. It is not, in other words, a location of unproblematic inherited identities but a place where orientations and identifications are negotiated.
文摘Age-related memory impairments show a progressive decline across lifespan. Studies have demonstrated equivocal results in biological and behavioral outcomes of aging. Thus, in the present study we examined the novel object recognition task at a delay period that has been shown to be impaired in aged rats of two different strains. Moreover, we used a strain of rats, Fisher 344XBrown Norway, which have published age-related biological changes in the brain. Young (10 month old) and aged (28 month old) rats were tested on a standard novel object recognition task with a 50-minute delay period. The data showed that young and aged rats in the strain we used performed equally well on the novel object recognition task and that both young and old rats demonstrated a righthanded side preference for the novel object. Our data suggested that novel object recognition is not impaired in aged rats although both young and old rats have a demonstrated side preference. Thus, it may be that genetic differences across strains contribute to the equivocal results in behavior, and genetic variance likely influences the course of cognitive aging.
文摘The study aims to propose using a universal heuristic evaluation model (UHEM) to improve the functional and physical performance of residential buildings. Since, "everyone should be able to enter and use any part of the built environment as independently and naturally as possible", the old buildings should be revitalized with respect to an inclusive approach. However, research on current design practice showed that there is a lack of systematic evaluation and revitalization methods. Hence, the main objective of the proposed UHEM model is to evaluate existing residential environments and requalify them with respect to an inclusive approach. The study concludes by highlighting the importance of UHEM from two points of view: (i) the importance of a systematic evaluation approach to effectively deal with the challenge of requalifying the residential environments and (ii) the designers' key role during the revitalization process.
文摘Ionosphere is the layer of atmosphere which plays an important role both in space based navigation,positioning and communication systems and HF signals. The structure of the electron density is a function of spatio-temporal variables. The electrodynamic medium is also influenced with earth’s magnetic field, atmospheric chemistry and plasma flow and diffusion under earth’s gravitation. Thus, the unified dynamo equation for the ionosphere is a second order partial differential equation for quasi-static electric potential with variable spatial coefficients. In this study, the inhomogeneous and anisotropic nature of ionosphere that can be formulated as a divergence equation is solved numerically using Finite Volume Method for the first time. The ionosphere and the operators are discretized for the midlatitude region and the solution domain is investigated for Dirichlet type boundary conditions that are built in into the diffusion equation. The analysis indicates that FVM can be a powerful tool in obtaining parametric electrostatic potential distribution in ionosphere.

文摘We analyze the configurations of conics and lines on a special class of Kummer octic surfaces. In particular, we bound the number of conics by 176 and show that there is a unique surface with 176 conics, all irreducible: it admits a faithful action of one of the Mukai groups. Therefore, we also discuss conics and lines on Mukai surfaces: we discover a double plane(ramified at a smooth sextic curve) that contains 8,910 smooth conics.

文摘Large-area lasers are practical for generating high output powers.However,this often comes at the expense of lower beam quality due to the introduction of higher-order modes.Here,we experimentally demonstrate a new type of electrically pumped,large-area edge-emitting lasers that exhibit a high power emission(~0.4 W)and a high-quality beam(M^(2)~1.25).These favorable operational characteristics are enabled by establishing a quasi PT-symmetry between the second-order mode of a large area two-mode laser cavity and that of a single-mode auxiliary partner cavity,i.e.,by implementing a partial isospectrality between the two coupled cavities.This in turn enlarges the effective volume of the higher-order modes.As a result,a selective pump applied via current injection into the main laser cavity can provide a stronger modal gain to the fundamental mode,and thus lead to lasing in the single mode regime after filtering out higher order transverse modes.The reported experimental results confirm this intuitive picture and are in good agreement with both theoretical and numerical analysis.Above all,the employed material platform and fabrication process are compatible with the industrial standards of semiconductor lasers.This work provides the frst clear demonstration,beyond previous proof-of-concept studies,of the utility of PT-symmetry in building laser geometries with enhanced performance and,at the same time,useful output power levels and emission Cndidclerisuics.
