The organic matter(OM)enrichment mechanisms and depositional environment characteristics of lacustrine source rocks in the western Bozhong Sag,Bohai Bay Basin in Northeast China remain controversial. To address these issues, based on Rock-Eval pyrolysis, kerogen macerals,H/C and O/C ratios,GC-MS,major and trace elements, the Dongying Formation Member(Mbr)3(E_(3)d_(3)),the Shahejie Formation mbrs 1 and 2(E_(2)s_(1+2)),and the Shahejie Mbr 3(E_(2)s_(3))source rocks in the western Bozhong Sag were studied. The above methods were used to reveal their geochemical properties,OM origins and depositional environments, all of which indicate that E_(2)s_(1+2)and E_(2)s_(3)are excellent source rocks, and that E_(3)d_(3)is of the second good quality.E_(3)d_(3)source rocks were formed under a warm and humid climate, mainly belong to fluvial/delta facies, the E_(3)d_(3)sediments formed under weakly oxidizing and freshwater conditions.Comparatively, the depositional environments of E_(2)s_(1+2)source rocks were arid and cold climate, representing saline or freshwater lacustrine facies, and the sediments of E_(2)s_(1+2)belong to anoxic or suboxic settings with large evaporation and salinity.During the period of E_(2)s_(3),the climate became warm and humid, indicating the freshwater lacustrine facies, and E_(2)s_(3)was characterized by freshwater and abundant algae. Moreover, compared with other intervals, the OM origin of E_(3)d_(3)source rocks has noticeable terrestrial input. The OM origin of the E_(2)s_(1+2)and E_(2)s_(3)are mainly plankton and bacteria.Tectonic subsidence and climate change have affected the changes of the depositional environment in the western Bozhong Sag,thus controlling the distribution of the source rocks, the geochemical characteristics in the three intervals of lacustrine source rocks have distinct differences.Overall, these factors are effective to evaluate the paleoenvironmental characteristics of source rocks by biomarkers, major and trace elements. The established models may have positive implications for research of lacustrine source rocks in offshore areas with few drillings. 展开更多

Aiming at the problem that the data-driven automatic correlation methods which are difficult to adapt to the automatic correlation of oil-bearing strata with large changes in lateral sedimentary facies and strata thickness,an intelligent automatic correlation method of oil-bearing strata based on pattern constraints is formed. We propose to introduce knowledge-driven in automatic correlation of oil-bearing strata, constraining the correlation process by stratigraphic sedimentary patterns and improving the similarity measuring machine and conditional constraint dynamic time warping algorithm to automate the correlation of marker layers and the interfaces of each stratum. The application in Shishen 100 block in the Shinan Oilfield of the Bohai Bay Basin shows that the coincidence rate of the marker layers identified by this method is over 95.00%,and the average coincidence rate of identified oil-bearing strata reaches 90.02% compared to artificial correlation results, which is about 17 percentage points higher than that of the existing automatic correlation methods. The accuracy of the automatic correlation of oil-bearing strata has been effectively improved. 展开更多

Kerogen types exert a decisive effect on the onset and capacity of hydrocarbon generation of source rocks.Lacustrine source rocks in the Liaohe Western Depression are characterized by thick deposition, high total organic carbon(TOC)content, various kerogen types, and a wide range of thermal maturity.Consequently, their hydrocarbon generation potential and resource estimation can be misinterpreted. In this study, geochemical tests, numerical analysis, hydrocarbon generation kinetics, and basin modeling were integrated to investigate the differential effects of kerogen types on the hydrocarbon generation potential of lacustrine source rocks.Optimized hydrocarbon generation and expulsion(HGE)models of different kerogen types were established quantitatively upon abundant Rock-Eval/TOC/vitrinite reflectance(R_(o))datasets.Three sets of good-excellent source rocks deposited in the fourth(Es4),third(Es3),and first(Es1)members of Paleogene Shahejie Formation, are predominantly types I-II_(1),II_(1)-II_(2),and II-III,respectively.The activation energy of types I-II_(2)kerogen is concentrated(180-230 kcal/mol),whereas that of type III kerogen is widely distributed(150-280 kcal/mol).The original hydrocarbon generation potentials of types I,II_(1),II_(2),and III kerogens are 790,510,270,and 85 mg/g TOC,respectively. The Ro values of the hydrocarbon generation threshold for type I-III source rocks gradually increase from 0.42%to 0.74%,and Ro values of the hydrocarbon expulsion threshold increase from 0.49%to 0.87%.Types I and II_(1)source rocks are characterized by earlier hydrocarbon generation, more rapid hydrocarbon expulsion, and narrower hydrocarbon generation windows than types II_(2)and III source rocks. The kerogen types also affect the HGE history and resource potential.Three types(conventional, tight, and shale oil/gas)and three levels(realistic, expected, and prospective)of hydrocarbon resources of different members in the Liaohe Western Depression are evaluated.Findings suggest that the Es3 member has considerable conventional and unconventional hydrocarbon resources. This study can quantitatively characterize the hydrocarbon generation potential of source rocks with different kerogen types, and facilitate a quick and accurate assessment of hydrocarbon resources, providing strategies for future oil and gas exploration. 展开更多

The Bozhong Sag is the largest petroliferous sag in the Bohai Bay Basin, and the source rocks of Paleogene Dongying and Shahejie Formations were buried deeply. Most of the drillings were located at the structural high, and there were few wells that met good quality source rocks,so it is difficult to evaluate the source rocks in the study area precisely by geochemical analysis only.Based on the Rock-Eval pyrolysis, total organic carbon(TOC)testing, the organic matter(OM)abundance of Paleogene source rocks in the southwestern Bozhong Sag were evaluated, including the lower of second member of Dongying Formation(E_(3)d2L),the third member of Dongying Formation(E_(3)d_(3)),the first and second members of Shahejie Formation(E_(2)s_(1+2)),the third member of Shahejie Formation(E_(2)s_(3)).The results indicate that the E_(2)s_(1+2)and E_(2)s_(3)have better hydrocarbon generative potentials with the highest OM abundance, the E_(3)d_(3)are of the second good quality, and the E_(3)d2L have poor to fair hydrocarbon generative potential.Furthermore, the well logs were applied to predict TOC and residual hydrocarbon generation potential(S_(2))based on the sedimentary facies classification, usingΔlogR,generalizedΔlogR,logging multiple linear regression and BP neural network methods. The various methods were compared, and the BP neural network method have relatively better prediction accuracy.Based on the pre-stack simultaneous inversion(P-wave impedance,P-wave velocity and density inversion results)and the post-stack seismic attributes, the three-dimensional(3D)seismic prediction of TOC and S_(2)was carried out.The results show that the seismic near well prediction results of TOC and S_(2)based on seismic multi-attributes analysis correspond well with the results of well logging methods, and the plane prediction results are identical with the sedimentary facies map in the study area. The TOC and S_(2)values of E_(2)s_(1+2)and E_(2)s_(3)are higher than those in E_(3)d_(3)and E_(3)d_(2)L,basically consistent with the geochemical analysis results. This method makes up the deficiency of geochemical methods, establishing the connection between geophysical information and geochemical data, and it is helpful to the 3D quantitative prediction and the evaluation of high-quality source rocks in the areas where the drillings are limited. 展开更多

The Paleocene mudrocks in Ghana’s Tano Basin have received limited attention despite ongoing efforts to explore hydrocarbon resources.A thorough geochemical analysis is imperative to assess these mudrocks’petroleum generation potential and formulate effective exploration strategies. In this study,a comprehensive geochemical analysis was carried out on ten Paleocene rock cuttings extracted from TP-1,a discovery well within the Tano Basin.Various analytical techniques, including total organic carbon(TOC)analysis,Rock–Eval pyrolysis, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and isotope ratio-mass spectrometry, were employed to elucidate their hydrocar-bon potential and organic facies.Thefindings in this study were subsequently compared to existing geochemical data on Paleocene source rocks in the South Atlantic marginal basins. The results indicated that the Paleocene samples have TOC content ranging from 0.68 to 2.93 wt%.The prevalent kerogen types identified in these samples were Type Ⅱ and Type Ⅲ.Molecular and isotope data suggest that the organic matter found in the Paleocene mudrocks can be traced back to land plants and lower aquatic organisms. These mudrocks were deposited in a transi-tional environment withfluctuating water salinity,charac-terized by sub-oxic redox conditions.Maturity indices, both bulk and molecular, indicated a spectrum of maturity levels within the Paleocene mudrocks, spanning from immature to marginally mature, with increasing maturity observed with greater depth. In comparison, the organic composition and depositional environments of Paleocene source rocks in the Tano Basin closely resemble those found in the Niger Delta Basin,Douala, and Kribi-Campo Basins, the Kwanza Formation in Angola, and certain Brazilian marginal basins. However,it is worth noting that Paleocene source rocks in some of the basins, such as the Niger Delta and Brazilian marginal basins, exhibit rela-tively higher thermal maturity levels compared to those observed in the current Paleocene samples from the Tano Basin. In conclusion, the comprehensive geochemical analysis of Paleocene mudrocks within Ghana’s Tano Basin has unveiled their marginal hydrocarbon generation potential. The shared geochemical characteristics between the Paleocene mudrocks in the Tano Basin and those in the nearby South Atlantic marginal basins offer valuable insights into source rock quality, which is crucial for shaping future strategies in petroleum exploration in this region. 展开更多

Seafloor topography plays an important role in the evolution of submarine lobes. However,it is still not so clear how the shape of slope affects the three-dimensional(3-D)architecture of submarine lobes. In this study,we analyze the effect of topography factors on different hierarchical lobe architectures that formed during Pliocene to Quaternary in the Rovuma Basin offshore East Africa. We characterize the shape, size and growth pattern of different hierarchical lobe architectures using 3-D seismic data.We find that the relief of the topographic slope determines the location of preferential deposition of lobe complexes and single lobes. When the topography is irregular and presents topographic lows, lobe complexes first infill these depressions.Single lobes are deposited preferentially at positions with higher longitudinal(i.e.across-slope)slope gradients. As the longitudinal slope becomes higher, the aspect ratio of the single lobes increases.Lateral(i.e.along-slope)topography does not seem to have a strong influence on the shape of single lobe, but it seems to affect the overlap of single lobes. When the lateral slope gradient is relatively high, the single lobes tend to have a larger overlap surface.Furthermore,as the average of lateral slope and longitudinal slope gets greater, the width/thickness ratio of the single lobe is smaller,i.e.sediments tend to accumulate vertically. The results demonstrate that the shape of slopes more comprehensively influences the 3-D architecture of lobes in natural deep-sea systems than previously other lobe deposits and analogue experiments, which helps us better understand the development and evolution of the distal parts of turbidite systems. 展开更多

With continuous hydrocarbon exploration extending to deeper basins, the deepest industrial oil accumulation was discovered below 8,200 m,revealing a new exploration field.Hence, the extent to which oil exploration can be extended, and the prediction of the depth limit of oil accumulation(DLOA),are issues that have attracted significant attention in petroleum geology.Since it is difficult to characterize the evolution of the physical properties of the marine carbonate reservoir with burial depth, and the deepest drilling still cannot reach the DLOA.Hence, the DLOA cannot be predicted by directly establishing the relationship between the ratio of drilling to the dry layer and the depth. In this study,by establishing the relationships between the porosity and the depth and dry layer ratio of the carbonate reservoir, the relationships between the depth and dry layer ratio were obtained collectively. The depth corresponding to a dry layer ratio of 100%is the DLOA.Based on this,a quantitative prediction model for the DLOA was finally built. The results indicate that the porosity of the carbonate reservoir,Lower Ordovician in Tazhong area of Tarim Basin, tends to decrease with burial depth, and manifests as an overall low porosity reservoir in deep layer. The critical porosity of the DLOA was 1.8%,which is the critical geological condition corresponding to a 100%dry layer ratio encountered in the reservoir. The depth of the DLOA was 9,000 m.This study provides a new method for DLOA prediction that is beneficial for a deeper understanding of oil accumulation, and is of great importance for scientific guidance on deep oil drilling. 展开更多

Taking the Lower Permian Fengcheng Formation shale in Mahu Sag of Junggar Basin,NW China,as an example, core observation, test analysis, geological analysis and numerical simulation were applied to identify the shale oil micro-migration phenomenon. The hydrocarbon micro-migration in shale oil was quantitatively evaluated and verified by a self-created hydrocarbon expulsion potential method, and the petroleum geological significance of shale oil micro-migration evaluation was determined. Results show that significant micro-migration can be recognized between the organic-rich lamina and organic-poor lamina. The organic-rich lamina has strong hydrocarbon generation ability. The heavy components of hydrocarbon preferentially retained by kerogen swelling or adsorption, while the light components of hydrocarbon were migrated and accumulated to the interbedded felsic or carbonate organic-poor laminae as free oil.About 69% of the Fengcheng Formation shale samples in Well MY1 exhibit hydrocarbon charging phenomenon, while 31% of those exhibit hydrocarbon expulsion phenomenon. The reliability of the micro-migration evaluation results was verified by combining the group components based on the geochromatography effect,two-dimension nuclear magnetic resonance analysis, and the geochemical behavior of inorganic manganese elements in the process of hydrocarbon migration.Micro-migration is a bridge connecting the hydrocarbon accumulation elements in shale formations, which reflects the whole process of shale oil generation, expulsion and accumulation, and controls the content and composition of shale oil.The identification and evaluation of shale oil micro-migration will provide new perspectives for dynamically differential enrichment mechanism of shale oil and establishing a“multi-peak model in oil generation”of shale. 展开更多

Using the data of drilling, logging, core, experiments and production, the heterogeneity and differential hydrocarbon accumulation model of deep reservoirs in Cretaceous Qingshuihe Formation(K1q) in the western section of the foreland thrust belt in southern Junggar Basin are investigated. The target reservoirs are characterized by superimposition of conglomerates, sandy conglomerates and sandstones, with high content of plastic clasts. The reservoir space is mainly composed of intergranular pores. The reservoirs are overall tight, and the sandy conglomerate has the best physical properties. The coupling of short deep burial period with low paleotemperature gradient and formation overpressure led to the relatively weak diagenetic strength of the reservoirs. Specifically, the sandy conglomerates show relatively low carbonate cementation, low compaction rate and high dissolution porosity. The special stress-strain mechanism of the anticline makes the reservoirs at the top of the anticline turning point more reformed by fractures than those at the limbs, and the formation overpressure makes the fractures in open state. Moreover, the sandy conglomerates have the highest oil saturation. Typical anticline reservoirs are developed in deep part of the thrust belt, but characterized by "big trap with small reservoir". Significantly, the sandy conglomerates at the top of anticline turning point have better quality, lower in-situ stress and higher structural position than those at the limbs, with the internal hydrocarbons most enriched, making them high-yield oil/gas layers. The exponential decline of fractures makes hydrocarbon accumulation difficult in the reservoirs at the limbs. Nonetheless, plane hydrocarbon distribution is more extensive at the gentle limb than the steep limb. 展开更多

Considering the action mechanisms of overpressure on physical changes in skeleton particles of deep reservoir rocks and the differences in physical changes of skeleton particles under overpressure and hydrostatic pressure, the sandstone of the Jurassic Toutunhe Formation in the southern margin of Junggar Basin was taken as an example for physical modeling experiment to analyze the action mechanisms of overpressure on the physical properties of deep reservoirs. (1) In the simulated ultra-deep layer with a burial depth of 6000-8000 m, the mechanical compaction under overpressure reduces the remaining primary pores by about a half that under hydrostatic pressure. Overpressure can effectively suppress the mechanical compaction to allow the preservation of intergranular primary pores. (2) The linear contact length ratio under overpressure is always smaller than the linear contact length ratio under hydrostatic pressure at the same depth. In deep reservoirs, the difference between the mechanical compaction degree under overpressure and hydrostatic pressure shows a decreasing trend, the effect of abnormally high pressure to resist the increase of effective stress is weakened, and the degree of mechanical compaction is gradually close to that under hydrostatic pressure. (3) The microfractures in skeleton particles of deep reservoirs under overpressure are thin and long, while the microfractures in skeleton particles of deep reservoirs under hydrostatic pressure are short and wide. This difference is attributed to the probable presence of tension fractures in the rocks containing abnormally high pressure fluid. (4) The microfractures in skeleton particles under overpressure were mainly formed later than that under hydrostatic pressure, and the development degree and length of microfractures both extend deeper. (5) The development stages of microfractures under overpressure are mainly controlled by the development stages of abnormally high pressure and the magnitude of effective stress acting on the skeleton particles. Moreover, the development stages of microfractures in skeleton particles are more than those under hydrostatic pressure in deep reservoir. The multi-stage abnormally high pressure plays an important role in improving the physical properties of deep reservoirs. 展开更多

The majority of oil and gas resources in the world are related to saline sediments, which mainly occur in sedimentary strata in the form of cap rocks or salt-associated shales. A large number of shale oil resources have been discovered in the saline shale sediments of the Cenozoic terrestrial lake basin in China. The hydrocarbon generation ability and the reservoir capacity of shale control the oil and gas generation. The reservoir capacity is mainly characterized by pore type, structure and porosity. Most of China’s shale oil and gas resources belong to salt-bearing formations. The role of gypsum-salt rocks in the formation and evolution of organic matter (OM) in such formations has received extensive attention. However, systematic understanding is lacking. Research on the pore formation and evolution in shale under the action of gypsum-salt rock sediments is especially weak. Taking the shales in the third member of the Shahejie Formation (Es_(3)) of the Bohai Bay Basin as an example, the influence of halite on the formation and evolution process of pores was studied in this paper. The results show that halite and gypsum minerals were associated with OM, which made them more likely to develop OM pores. The samples with a high halite mineral content (HC) are more developed regarding the pore volume and specific surface area than those with a low HC. The formation of thick salt rocks is influenced by factors of deep thermal brine upwelling, sea erosion and arid environments. The frequent alternation between humid and arid environments led to the outbreak and death of organisms and the precipitation of gypsum-salt rock, which formed the simultaneous deposition of OM and halite minerals. Finally, we have established a model of shale pore evolution under the participation of the gypsum-salt rock, and halite minerals contribute to pore development in both Stage II and Stage IV. This study provides strong microscopic evidence for the pore system formation and evolution in salt-bearing reservoirs. 展开更多

The geological characteristics and enrichment laws of the shale oil in the third submember of the seventh member of Triassic Yanchang Formation(Chang 7_(3)) in the Ordos Basin were analyzed by using the information of core observations, experiments and logging, and then the exploration potential and orientation of the Chang 7_(3) shale oil were discussed. The research findings are obtained in three aspects. First, two types of shale oil, i.e. migratory-retained and retained, are recognized in Chang 7_(3). The former is slightly better than the latter in quality. The migratory-retained shale oil reservoir is featured with the frequent interbedding and overlapping of silty-sandy laminae caused by sandy debris flow and low-density turbidity current and semi-deep-deep lacustrine organic-rich shale laminae. The retained shale oil reservoir is composed of black shale with frequent occurrence of bedding and micro-laminae. Second, high-quality source rocks provide a large quantity of hydrocarbon-rich high-quality fluids with high potential energy. The source-reservoir pressure difference provides power for oil accumulation in thin interbeds of organic-poor sandstones with good seepage conditions and in felsic lamina, tuffaceous lamina and bedding fractures in shales. Hydrocarbon generation-induced fractures, bedding fractures and microfractures provide high-speed pathways for oil micro-migration. Frequent sandstone interlayers and felsic laminae provide a good space for large-scale hydrocarbon accumulation, and also effectively improve the hydrocarbon movability. Third, sand-rich areas around the depression are the main targets for exploring migratory-retained shale oil. Mature deep depression areas are the main targets for exploring retained oil with medium to high maturity. Theoretical research and field application of in-situ conversion in low-mature deep depression areas are the main technical orientations for exploring retained shale oil with low to medium maturity. 展开更多

The major enrichment type of shale oil in the Chang 7_(3) shale of Upper Triassic Yanchang Formation in the Ordos Basin is unknown. This paper analyzes the organic matter transformation ratio, hydrocarbon expulsion efficiency and roof/floor sealing conditions of the Chang 7_(3) shale, and evaluates the major enrichment type of shale oil in this interval. The average organic matter transformation ratio of the Chang 7_(3) shale is about 45%;in other words, more than 50%of the organic matters have not transformed to hydrocarbons, and the lower the maturity, the greater the proportion of untransformed organic matters. The cumulative hydrocarbon expulsion efficiency of the transformed hydrocarbon is 27.5% on average, and the total proportion of untransformed organic matters plus retained hydrocarbons is greater than 70%.The relative hydrocarbon expulsion efficiency of the Chang 7_(3) shale is 60%on average, that is,about 40% of hydrocarbons retain in the shale. The Chang 7_(3) shale corresponds to Chang 7_(1+2) and Chang 8 sandstones as the roof and floor, respectively, and is further overlaid by Chang 6 shale, where extensive low porosity and low permeability–tight oil reservoirs have formed in the parts with relatively good porosity and permeability. Moreover, the Chang 7_(3) shale is tested to be in a negative pressure system(the pressure coefficient of 0.80–0.85).Therefore,the roof/floor sealing conditions of the Chang 7_(3) shale are poor. The retained hydrocarbons appear mostly in absorbed status, with low mobility. It is concluded that the medium–high mature shale oil is not the major enrichment type of shale oil in the Chang 7_(3) shale, but there may be enrichment opportunity for shale oil with good mobility in the areas where the sealing conditions are good without faults and fractures and oil reservoirs are formed off Chang 7_(1+2),Chang 6 and Chang 8.Furthermore,low–medium mature shale oil is believed to have great potential and is the major enrichment type of shale oil in the Chang 7_(3) shale. It is recommended to prepare relevant in-situ conversion technologies by pilot test and figure out the resource availability and distribution. 展开更多

Based on the geological and geochemical analysis of potential source rocks in different formations and the classification of crude oil types, combined with the hydrocarbon generation thermal simulation experiments, the source, genesis, and distribution of different types of oils in the Mahu large oil province of the Junggar Basin are investigated.Four sets of potential source rocks are developed in the Mahu Sag.Specifically, the source rocks of the Permian Fengcheng Formation have the highest hydrocarbon generation potential and contain mainly TypesⅡandⅠorganic matters, with a high oil generation capacity. In contrast, the source rocks in other formations exhibit lower hydrocarbon generation potential and contain mainly TypeⅢorganic matter, with dominant gas generation.Oils in the Mahu Sag can be classified as three types:A,B and C,which display ascending, mountainous and descending C_(20)-C_(21)-C_(23)tricyclic terpenes abundance patterns in sequence, and gradually increasing relative content of tricyclic terpenes and sterane isomerization parameters, indicating an increasing oil maturity.Different types of oils are distributed spatially in an obviously orderly manner:Type A oil is close to the edge of the sag,Type C oil is concentrated in the center of the sag,and Type B oil lies in the slope area between Type A and Type C.The results of oil-source correlation and thermal simulation experiments show that the three types of oils come from the source rocks of the Fengcheng Formation at different thermal evolution stages. This new understanding of the differential genesis of oils in the Mahu Sag reasonably explains the source, distribution, and genetic mechanism of the three types of oils. The study results are of important guidance for the comprehensive and three-dimensional oil exploration, the identification of oil distribution in the total petroleum system, and the prediction of favorable exploration areas in the Mahu Sag. 展开更多

The applicability of sequence stratigraphic models to continental fluvial successions has long been topic for debate. To improve our understanding of how fluvial architectures record responses to changes in the ratio between accommodation rate and sediment-supply rate (A/S), two case studies are analyzed, including a densely drilled subsurface fluvial reservoir imaged with a seismic cube, and an outcropping fluvial succession. The subsurface dataset provides a larger, three-dimensional perspective, whereas the outcrop dataset enables observation at higher resolution. On the basis of both datasets, channel-body density, channel-body stacking patterns and their formative river types are interpreted at different scales, and how these may reflect responses to A/S change (the rate of accommodation creation relative to the rate of sediment supply) are discussed. The results indicate that (i) channel-body stacking patterns undergo four evolutionary stages along with the A/S increase, i.e., multi-story, mixed multi- and two-story, two-story, and isolated patterns;(ii) channel-body density decreases along with the channel-body stacking patterns varying from multi-story to isolated;(iii) formative rivers types are interpreted as evolving from braided planforms to braided-meandering planforms and then to meandering ones, with the increase of A/S. 展开更多

The middle Eocene climatic optimum(MECO,ca.-42 Ma)is a key time period for understanding Cenozoic cooling of the global climate.Still, midlatitude terrestrial records of climate evolution during MEcO epoch are rare.In this study, continuous high-resolution record of shale sediments in mid-Eocene Shahejie Formation(MES shales)in the Bohai Bay Basin were performed with major-element and wavelet analysis. The midlatitude paleoweathering and paleoclimatic evolution during MEcO epoch were analyzed in this study. The MES shales experienced weak-moderate paleoweathering under a subtropical monsoon paleoclimate with mean annual temperature of 8.3-12.9℃ and mean annual precipitation of 685-1100 mm/yr.The MES shales record a mixed provenance involving intermediate igneous rocks, and low compositional maturity. The nutrient-rich environment led to enrichment in organic matter in the MES shales.Wavelet analysis revealed good periodicity about the paleoclimate and weathering during MECO epoch. In the stage I of MES shales depositional process, the paleolake was high in nutrients, and the MES shales experienced high chemical weathering due to a relatively warmer and more humid climate. In contrast, the climate in stage II was relatively cold and dry,and the maturity of the MES shales was relatively high during this stage, suggesting a relatively stable tectonic background. This work provides more terrestrial records of MEco epoch for midlatitude region, and is benefit for better understanding of the palaeoenvironment when MES shales formed. The implication of organic matters enrichment in this study is meaningful for the shale oil/gas exploration in Nanpu Sag. 展开更多

The late Paleozoic Fengcheng Formation shale(LPF shale)in the Junggar Basin,NW China,is the oldest alkaline source rock discovered in the world, providing a unique perspective with which to explore organic matter(OM)enrichment in alkaline lake environments.Combined with the organic carbon isotope profile and paleoenvironmental proxies, this study reveals that the LPF shale was deposited in an arid climate with high salinity and a strong reducing environment, accompanied by frequent volcanic activity.High TOC values are concentrated in two intervals with frequent fluctuations in OM types.A negative excursion due to changes in sedimentary OM source is found in the δ^(13)C_(org) profile. The excursion corresponds to the OM enrichment interval and is accompanied by abnormally high values of Sr/Ba and Sr/Cu.This implies that the extreme arid climate has led to high salinity, resulting in strong reducibility and changes in paleontological assemblages, which in turn controlled the differential enrichment of OM.The Fengcheng Fm.high-quality source rocks are the result of the combined action of climatic events,volcanism,high-salinity water environment and superior hydrocarbon-generating organisms. The results provide new insights into the formation conditions of terrestrial alkaline high-quality source rocks and the factors controlling alkaline OM enrichment. 展开更多

The Middle Permian Lucaogou Formation in Northwestern China mainly contains typical saline lacustrine oil shale. To study the differences in geochemistry and hydrocarbon generation of source-rock samples in Lucaogou Formation in Jimusaer Sag,57 core samples from two boreholes were analyzed herein by performing total organic carbon(TOC)analysis,RockeEval pyrolysis, and gas chromatographicemass spectrometry experiments on saturated hydrocarbons. The kinetics of oil generation were studied using two samples comprising typical maceral components. The results showed that the hydrocarbons produced by telalginite are relatively rich in pristane(Pr),phytane(Ph),b-carotane,high-carbon normal alkanes, and C29 regular steranes.Hydrocarbons produced by lamalginite contain a significantly higher content of C20 tricyclic terpanes(TT),C21TT,C24 tetracyclic terpanes(TeT),C29 norhopane, and C28 regular sterane.Based on the pyrolysis and biomarker compound parameters, telalginite has a higher conversion rate for hydrocarbons than lamalginite in the low-mature to mature stage, which is consistent with their kinetic analysis.Lamalginite source rock displays a much narrower distribution of activation energies than telalginite source rocks.Such narrower activation energy distribution effectively narrows the main stage of hydrocarbon generation. In addition, the activation energy distribution of lamalginite concentrated in the high-value interval, indicating the characteristics of the relatively lagging hydrocarbon generation of lamalginite. 展开更多

Currently, the differences in gravity flow deposits within different systems tracts in continental lacustrine basins are not clear. Taking the middle submember of the third member of Paleogene Shahejie Formation(Sha 3 Member) in the Shishen 100 area of the Dongying Sag in the Bohai Bay Basin as an example, the depositional architecture of sublacustrine fans during forced regression and the impact of the fourth-order base-level changes on their growth were investigated using cores, well logs and 3D seismic data. Sublacustrine fans were mainly caused by hyperpycnal flow during the fourth-order base-level rise, while the proportion of slump-induced sublacustrine fans gradually increased during the late fourth-order base-level fall. From rising to falling of the fourth-order base-level, the extension distance of channels inside hyperpycnal-fed sublacustrine fans reduced progressively, resulting in the transformation in their morphology from a significantly channelized fan to a skirt-like fan. Furthermore, the depositional architecture of distributary channel complexes in sublacustrine fans changed from vertical aggradation to lateral migration, and the lateral size of individual channel steadily decreased. The lobe complex's architectural patterns evolved from compensational stacking of lateral migration to aggradational stacking, and the lateral size of individual lobe steadily grew. This study deepens the understanding of depositional features of gravity flow in high-frequency sequence stratigraphy and provides a geological foundation for the fine development of sublacustrine fan reservoirs. 展开更多

The Mesozoic and Cenozoic strata in the Junggar basin developed two sets of shallow to semi-deep lacustrine shale, namely, the Cretaceous Qingshuihe Formation (K_(1q)) and the Paleogene Anjihaihe Formation (E_(2-3a)).... The Mesozoic and Cenozoic strata in the Junggar basin developed two sets of shallow to semi-deep lacustrine shale, namely, the Cretaceous Qingshuihe Formation (K_(1q)) and the Paleogene Anjihaihe Formation (E_(2-3a)). Through organic petrology and scanning electron microscope (SEM) observation, it is found that the primary hydrocarbon-generating organic matter (OM) in the two sets of strata is different. The biological precursor of the E_(2-3a) OM is mainly green algae (Pediastrum), while the precursor of K_(1q) kerogen is mainly cyanobacteria (Oscillatoria). Then, the E_(2-3a) green algae-rich shale and K_(1q) cyanobacteria-rich shale were subjected to hydrous pyrolysis and kinetic analysis, respectively. The results show that the evolution modes of hydrocarbon generation of the typical shales are very different. Green algae have the characteristics of a low oil generation threshold, heavy oil quality, and no prominent oil peak, while cyanobacteria have the characteristics of late oil generation, concentrated hydrocarbon generation, and relatively light oil quality. The characteristics of oil generation can also be well reflected in the composition evolution of the crude oil components. The carbon isotope of gas, kerogen, and extracts of the E_(2-3a) green algae-rich shale are significantly heavier than the K_(1q) cyanobacteria-rich shale, which may be related to the living habits of their biological precursors, carbon source usage, photosynthesis efficiency, and carbon fixation efficiency. 展开更多
