In this paper,a new efficient,and at the same time,very simple and general class of thermodynamically compatiblefinite volume schemes is introduced for the discretization of nonlinear,overdetermined,and thermodynamicall...In this paper,a new efficient,and at the same time,very simple and general class of thermodynamically compatiblefinite volume schemes is introduced for the discretization of nonlinear,overdetermined,and thermodynamically compatiblefirst-order hyperbolic systems.By construction,the proposed semi-discrete method satisfies an entropy inequality and is nonlinearly stable in the energy norm.A very peculiar feature of our approach is that entropy is discretized directly,while total energy conservation is achieved as a mere consequence of the thermodynamically compatible discretization.The new schemes can be applied to a very general class of nonlinear systems of hyperbolic PDEs,including both,conservative and non-conservative products,as well as potentially stiff algebraic relaxation source terms,provided that the underlying system is overdetermined and therefore satisfies an additional extra conservation law,such as the conservation of total energy density.The proposed family offinite volume schemes is based on the seminal work of Abgrall[1],where for thefirst time a completely general methodology for the design of thermodynamically compatible numerical methods for overdetermined hyperbolic PDE was presented.We apply our new approach to three particular thermodynamically compatible systems:the equations of ideal magnetohydrodynamics(MHD)with thermodynamically compatible generalized Lagrangian multiplier(GLM)divergence cleaning,the unifiedfirst-order hyperbolic model of continuum mechanics proposed by Godunov,Peshkov,and Romenski(GPR model)and thefirst-order hyperbolic model for turbulent shallow waterflows of Gavrilyuk et al.In addition to formal mathematical proofs of the properties of our newfinite volume schemes,we also present a large set of numerical results in order to show their potential,efficiency,and practical applicability.展开更多

Sediment transport can be modelled using hydrodynamic models based on shallow water equations coupled with the sediment concentration conservation equation and the bed con-servation equation.The complete system of equ...Sediment transport can be modelled using hydrodynamic models based on shallow water equations coupled with the sediment concentration conservation equation and the bed con-servation equation.The complete system of equations is made up of the energy balance law and the Exner equations.The numerical solution for this complete system is done in a seg-regated manner.First,the hyperbolic part of the system of balance laws is solved using a finite volume scheme.Three ways to compute the numerical flux have been considered,the Q-scheme of van Leer,the HLLCS approximate Riemann solver,and the last one takes into account the presence of non-conservative products in the model.The discretisation of the source terms is carried out according to the numerical flux chosen.In the second stage,the bed conservation equation is solved by using the approximation computed for the system of balance laws.The numerical schemes have been validated making comparisons between the obtained numerical results and the experimental data for some physical experiments.The numerical results show a good agreement with the experimental data.展开更多
The effect of heat treatment on the mechanical and biocorrosion behaviour of the Mg-1 wt.%Zn-1 wt.%Ca(ZX11)and Mg-3 wt.%Zn-0.4 wt.%Ca(ZX30)alloys was evaluated.For this purpose,three-point bending tests as well as ele...The effect of heat treatment on the mechanical and biocorrosion behaviour of the Mg-1 wt.%Zn-1 wt.%Ca(ZX11)and Mg-3 wt.%Zn-0.4 wt.%Ca(ZX30)alloys was evaluated.For this purpose,three-point bending tests as well as electrochemical and immersion tests in Hank’s solution were performed on both alloys in four different thermal conditions:as-cast,solution-treated,peak-aged and over-aged.Microstructural examinations revealed that the as-cast ZX11 and ZX30 alloys exhibit a microstructure composed ofα-Mg grains separated by large Mg_(2)Ca and Ca_(2)Mg_(6)Zn_(3) particles and by large Ca_(2)Mg_(6)Zn_(3) particles,respectively.During solution treatment,the Ca_(2)Mg_(6)Zn_(3) precipitates at the grain boundaries(GBs)are fully dissolved in the ZX11 alloy,but mainly redistributed to form a more connected configuration in the ZX30 alloy,showing a poor age-hardening response.Consequently,after solution-treatment,galvanic corrosion and corrosion rate decreases in the former,but increases in the latter.The peak-aged condition displays the highest corrosion rate for both alloys,maybe due to an excessive number density of fine Ca_(2)Mg_(6)Zn_(3) particles acting as cathodic sites.However,the over-aged condition shows the lowest corrosion rate for the ZX11 alloy and a very similar one to that of the as-cast sample for the ZX30 alloy.The ZX11 alloy shows generally better biocorrosion behaviour than the ZX30 alloy to its lower content in the Ca_(2)Mg_(6)Zn_(3) phase and thus reduced galvanic corrosion.The Mg_(2)Ca phase present in the studied ZX11 alloy has been proved to exhibit an increased corrosion potential,which has been related to an observed enrichment with Zn.展开更多

This approach makes it possible to devise techniques for solving the Lagrange Maxwell equations in differences which correspond to mechanico-electrical systems,by adapting existing differential equations.In particular,it obtains a new systematic method to determine both the one-parameter Lie groups and the discrete Noether conserved quantities of Lie point symmetries for mechanico-electrical systems.As an application,it obtains the Lie point symmetries and the conserved quantities for the difference equation of a model that represents a capacitor microphone.展开更多

We have adopted in this paper the Cellular Automata model to study the dispersion of the aphids in the block of citric trees using the pesticides (chemical control) and the biological agent (biological control). The main purpose of this research is the development of a simple and specific methodology to study Citrus Sudden Death (CSD). CSD is a disease that has affected sweet orange trees grafted on Rangpur lime in the state of S?o Paulo-Brazil. Some studies suggest that this disease has been caused by a virus and it is transmitted by insects known as aphids (vector). The ladybug was selected among the most known enemies of aphids in citrus in Brazil. In order to elaborate a predator-prey type of model to study the interaction between aphids (preys) and ladybugs (predators) in citriculture we have used a fuzzy rule-based system (FRBS). The states of the variables of the system (inputs) are the density of preys and the density of predators and their variations are the outputs. Therefore we take into account the effect of the wind in the space covered by the aphid, since the wind is important for the flight of the aphid as described in Peixoto et al. (2008) [1]. After, we used a FRBS to establish the relationship between the quantity of pesticides and the density of the preys. The simulations have been performed and have been compared between blocks with the presence of both aphids and ladybugs without the use of pesticides and the presence of them with the use of these ones using the Cellular Automata model. Numerical simulations allow us to foresee the behavior of the system, hence creating a spectrum of possibilities and proposing control techniques for different initial scenarios.展开更多

Non-linear molecules, for which a common intensity behavior was derived, were especially interesting. We provided theoretical support for the obtained results based on the Boltzmann distribution. Boltzmann power laws were used to reproduce the statistical behavior of the intensities from the spectra of linear and non-linear molecules. We only used statistical arguments and no specific details of any molecule were used. Therefore, these results are applicable to a large class of atoms and molecules and the model is valid when considering similar conditions to those used in this study.展开更多

In order to attract the attention of numerical analysts, or rather scientific community of researchers applying various approximation techniques, the article is interspersed with comparison of fractal interpolation functions and diverse conventional interpolation schemes. There are multitudes of interpolation methods using several families of functions: polynomial, exponential, rational, trigonometric and splines to name a few. But it should be noted that all these conventional nonrecursive methods produce interpolants that are differentiable a number of times except possibly at a finite set of points. One of the goals of the paper is the definition of interpolants which are not smooth, and likely they are nowhere differentiable. They are defined by means of an appropriate iterated function system. Their appearance fills the gap of non-smooth methods in the field of approximation. Another interesting topic is that, if one chooses the elements of the iterated function system suitably, the resulting fractal curve may be close to classical mathematical functions like polynomials, exponentials, etc. The authors review many results obtained in this field so far, although the article does not claim any completeness. Theory as well as applications concerning this new topic published in the last decade are discussed. The one dimensional case is only considered.展开更多

Using a simple and versatile numerical scheme written by the authors and based on the Electric Field Integral Equation (EFIE), the effect caused by harmonic signals ranging on frequency from Hz to hundred of MHz, and also by lightning type driving signal striking at a remote point far from the conductors, is extensively studied. The value of the scalar potential appearing on the electrodes as a function of the frequency of the applied signal is one of the variables investigated. Other features such as the input impedance at the injection point of the signal and the Ground Potential Rise (GPR) over the electrode system are also discussed.展开更多
In general, micropulsation is generated by the free energy within the magnetosphere, which is mainly caused by the magnetosphere-solar wind interactions and/or magnetic field reconnections in the magnetospheric tail. ...In general, micropulsation is generated by the free energy within the magnetosphere, which is mainly caused by the magnetosphere-solar wind interactions and/or magnetic field reconnections in the magnetospheric tail. In this article, we studied the types of low-frequency magnetospheric micropulsations Pc5 and Pc6 (1 - 6 mHz), during three magnetic storms, using ground magnetic observations. One of the main motivations of this study was to produce scientific knowledge on the subject in order to fill knowledge gaps in this region, collaborating with existing bibliographies. The data were recorded in a series of six Brazilian stations close to the Dip Equator (dip = 0), with using data from the Ascension Island observatory. Pulse trains were found to occur simultaneously with almost identical waveforms, with significant amplitude increase near magnetic local noon. Amplitude spectra showed a clear similarity in all equatorial seasons. The results obtained were compared with studies performed in regions with similar low latitudes. The possible mechanisms that induced these micropulsations and the peculiarities presented by these data were also discussed in this article.展开更多

This algorithm is applied to the return series of fourteen worldwide market indices from 1996 to 2005. We find that a comparison of the return series in terms of the quantity of fractional Gaussian noise (fGn), for different values of Hurst exponent (H), facilitates the classification of stock markets according to their degree of development. We also observe that the simple classification of stock markets into “emerging” or “developing” and “mature” or “developed” is no longer sufficient. However, stock markets can be grouped into three categories that we named emerging, intermediate and mature.展开更多

Concretely, this paper investigates an abstract game of competition between two players that want to earn the maximum number of points from a finite set of points in the plane. It is assumed that the distribution of these points is not uniform, so an appropriate weight to each position is assigned. A definition of equilibrium which is weaker than the classical one is included in order to avoid the uniqueness of the equilibrium position typical of the Nash equilibrium in these kinds of games. The existence of this approximated equilibrium in the game is analyzed by means of computational geometry techniques.展开更多

CSD is a disease that has affected sweet orange trees grafted on Rangpur lime in the state of S?o Paulo-Brazil. Some studies suggest that this disease has been caused by a virus and it is transmitted by insects known as aphids (vector). The ladybug was selected among the most known enemies of aphids in citrus in Brazil. In order to elaborate a predator-prey type of model to study the interaction between aphids (preys) and ladybugs (predators) in citriculture we have used a fuzzy rule-based system (FRBS). The states of the variables of the system (inputs) are the density of preys and the density of predators and their variations are the outputs. Therefore we take into account the effect of the wind in the space covered by the aphid, since the wind is important for the flight of the aphid as described in Peixoto et al. (2008) [1]. After, we used a FRBS to establish the relationship between the quantity of pesticides and the density of the preys. The simulations have been performed and have been compared between blocks with the presence of both aphids and ladybugs without the use of pesticides and the presence of them with the use of these ones using the Cellular Automata model. Numerical simulations allow us to foresee the behavior of the system, hence creating a spectrum of possibilities and proposing control techniques for different initial scenarios.
文摘In this study, we found regular behavior, from a statistical point of view, in the intensities of rotational spectra for several organic and inorganic molecules at room temperature. Non-linear molecules, for which a common intensity behavior was derived, were especially interesting. We provided theoretical support for the obtained results based on the Boltzmann distribution. Boltzmann power laws were used to reproduce the statistical behavior of the intensities from the spectra of linear and non-linear molecules. We only used statistical arguments and no specific details of any molecule were used. Therefore, these results are applicable to a large class of atoms and molecules and the model is valid when considering similar conditions to those used in this study.
文摘Mechanical models of residually stressed fibre-reinforced solids,which do not resist bending,have been developed in the literature.However,in some residually stressed fibre-reinforced elastic solids,resistance to fibre bending is significant,and the mechanical behavior of such solids should be investigated.Hence,in this paper,we model the mechanical aspect of residually stressed elastic solids with bending stiffness due to fibre curvature,which up to the authors’knowledge has not been mechanically modeled in the past.The proposed constitutive equation involves a nonsymmetric stress and a couple-stress tensor.Spectral invariants are used in the constitutive equation,where each spectral invariant has an intelligible physical meaning,and hence they are useful in experiment and analysis.A prototype strain energy function is proposed.Moreover,we use this prototype to give results for some cylindrical boundary value problems.
文摘The object of this short survey is to revive interest in the technique of fractal interpolation. In order to attract the attention of numerical analysts, or rather scientific community of researchers applying various approximation techniques, the article is interspersed with comparison of fractal interpolation functions and diverse conventional interpolation schemes. There are multitudes of interpolation methods using several families of functions: polynomial, exponential, rational, trigonometric and splines to name a few. But it should be noted that all these conventional nonrecursive methods produce interpolants that are differentiable a number of times except possibly at a finite set of points. One of the goals of the paper is the definition of interpolants which are not smooth, and likely they are nowhere differentiable. They are defined by means of an appropriate iterated function system. Their appearance fills the gap of non-smooth methods in the field of approximation. Another interesting topic is that, if one chooses the elements of the iterated function system suitably, the resulting fractal curve may be close to classical mathematical functions like polynomials, exponentials, etc. The authors review many results obtained in this field so far, although the article does not claim any completeness. Theory as well as applications concerning this new topic published in the last decade are discussed. The one dimensional case is only considered.
文摘The transient response of a system of independent electrodes buried in a semi-infinite conducting medium is studied. Using a simple and versatile numerical scheme written by the authors and based on the Electric Field Integral Equation (EFIE), the effect caused by harmonic signals ranging on frequency from Hz to hundred of MHz, and also by lightning type driving signal striking at a remote point far from the conductors, is extensively studied. The value of the scalar potential appearing on the electrodes as a function of the frequency of the applied signal is one of the variables investigated. Other features such as the input impedance at the injection point of the signal and the Ground Potential Rise (GPR) over the electrode system are also discussed.
文摘In general, micropulsation is generated by the free energy within the magnetosphere, which is mainly caused by the magnetosphere-solar wind interactions and/or magnetic field reconnections in the magnetospheric tail. In this article, we studied the types of low-frequency magnetospheric micropulsations Pc5 and Pc6 (1 - 6 mHz), during three magnetic storms, using ground magnetic observations. One of the main motivations of this study was to produce scientific knowledge on the subject in order to fill knowledge gaps in this region, collaborating with existing bibliographies. The data were recorded in a series of six Brazilian stations close to the Dip Equator (dip = 0), with using data from the Ascension Island observatory. Pulse trains were found to occur simultaneously with almost identical waveforms, with significant amplitude increase near magnetic local noon. Amplitude spectra showed a clear similarity in all equatorial seasons. The results obtained were compared with studies performed in regions with similar low latitudes. The possible mechanisms that induced these micropulsations and the peculiarities presented by these data were also discussed in this article.
文摘In this paper, we introduce a novel algorithm, based on the wavelet transform, to measure stock market development. This algorithm is applied to the return series of fourteen worldwide market indices from 1996 to 2005. We find that a comparison of the return series in terms of the quantity of fractional Gaussian noise (fGn), for different values of Hurst exponent (H), facilitates the classification of stock markets according to their degree of development. We also observe that the simple classification of stock markets into “emerging” or “developing” and “mature” or “developed” is no longer sufficient. However, stock markets can be grouped into three categories that we named emerging, intermediate and mature.
文摘In this work, an improvement of the results presented by [1] Abellanas et al. (Weak Equilibrium in a Spatial Model. International Journal of Game Theory, 40(3), 449-459) is discussed. Concretely, this paper investigates an abstract game of competition between two players that want to earn the maximum number of points from a finite set of points in the plane. It is assumed that the distribution of these points is not uniform, so an appropriate weight to each position is assigned. A definition of equilibrium which is weaker than the classical one is included in order to avoid the uniqueness of the equilibrium position typical of the Nash equilibrium in these kinds of games. The existence of this approximated equilibrium in the game is analyzed by means of computational geometry techniques.

文摘We present a new family of fourth-order splitting methods with positive coefficients especially tailored for the time integration of linear parabolic problems and,in particular,for the time dependent Schrodinger equation,both in real and imaginary time.They are based on the use of a double commutator and a modified processor,and are more efficient than other widely used schemes found in the literature.Moreover,for certain potentials,they achieve order six.Several examples in one,two and three dimensions clearly illustrate the computational advantages of the new schemes.

Furthermore we see that the h-iterated line digraph Lh(D) of a s-geodetic digraph is λ′-optimal for certain iteration h.

文摘The authors present the general theory of cleft extensions for a cocommutative weak Hopf algebra H. For a right H-comodule algebra, they obtain a bijective corre- spondence between the isomorphisms classes of H-cleft extensions AH → A, where AH is the subalgebra of coinvariants, and the equivalence classes of crossed systems for H over AH. Finally, they establish a bijection between the set of equivalence classes of crossed systems with a fixed weak H-module algebra structure and the second cohomology group H2φZ(AH) (H, Z(AH)), where Z(AH) is the center of AH.
