This study examines the behavior of a micropolar nanofluidflowing over a sheet in the presence of a transverse magneticfield and thermal effects.In addition,chemical(first-order homogeneous)reactions are taken into account.A similarity transformation is used to reduce the system of governing coupled non-linear partial differ-ential equations(PDEs),which account for the transport of mass,momentum,angular momentum,energy and species,to a set of non-linear ordinary differential equations(ODEs).The Runge-Kutta method along with shoot-ing method is used to solve them.The impact of several parameters is evaluated.It is shown that the micro-rota-tional velocity of thefluid rises with the micropolar factor.Moreover,the radiation parameter can have a remarkable influence on theflow and temperature profiles and on the angular momentum distribution. 展开更多

In this study,a radiative MHD stagnation point flow over a nonlinear stretching sheet incorporating thermophoresis and Brownian motion is considered.Using a similarity method to reshape the underlying Partial differential equations into a set of ordinary differential equations(ODEs),the implications of heat generation,and chemical reaction on the flow field are described in detail.Moreover a Homotopy analysis method(HAM)is used to interpret the related mechanisms.It is found that an increase in the magnetic and velocity exponent parameters can damp the fluid velocity,while thermophoresis and Brownian motion promote specific thermal effects.The results also demonstrate that as the Brownian motion parameter is increased,the concentration values become smaller. 展开更多

The paper presents the comparative study on numerical methods of Euler method,Improved Euler method and fourth-order Runge-Kutta method for solving the engineering problems and applications.The three proposed methods are quite efficient and practically well suited for solving the unknown engineering problems.This paper aims to enhance the teaching and learning quality of teachers and students for various levels.At each point of the interval,the value of y is calculated and compared with its exact value at that point.The next interesting point is the observation of error from those methods.Error in the value of y is the difference between calculated and exact value.A mathematical equation which relates various functions with its derivatives is known as a differential equation.It is a popular field of mathematics because of its application to real-world problems.To calculate the exact values,the approximate values and the errors,the numerical tool such as MATLAB is appropriate for observing the results.This paper mainly concentrates on identifying the method which provides more accurate results.Then the analytical results and calculates their corresponding error were compared in details.The minimum error directly reflected to realize the best method from different numerical methods.According to the analyses from those three approaches,we observed that only the error is nominal for the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. 展开更多

Four numerical schemes are introduced for the analysis of photocurrent transients in organic photovoltaic devices.Themathematicalmodel for organic polymer solar cells contains a nonlinear diffusion-reaction partial differential equation system with electrostatic convection attached to a kinetic ordinary differential equation.To solve the problem,Polynomial-based differential quadrature,Sinc,and Discrete singular convolution are combined with block marching techniques.These schemes are employed to reduce the problem to a nonlinear algebraic system.The iterative quadrature technique is used to solve the reduced problem.The obtained results agreed with the previous exact one and the finite element method.Further,the effects of different times,different mobilities,different densities,different geminate pair distances,different geminate recombination rate constants,different generation efficiencies,and supporting conditions on photocurrent have been analyzed.The novelty of this paper is that these schemes for photocurrent transients in organic polymer solar cells have never been presented before,so the results may be useful for improving the performance of solar cells. 展开更多

This study examines the multicriteria scheduling problem on a single machine to minimize three criteria: the maximum cost function, denoted by maximum late work (V<sub>max</sub>), maximum tardy job, denoted by (T<sub>max</sub>), and maximum earliness (E<sub>max</sub>). We propose several algorithms based on types of objectives function to be optimized when dealing with simultaneous minimization problems with and without weight and hierarchical minimization problems. The proposed Algorithm (3) is to find the set of efficient solutions for 1//F (V<sub>max</sub>, T<sub>max</sub>, E<sub>max</sub>) and 1//(V<sub>max</sub> + T<sub>max</sub> + E<sub>max</sub>). The Local Search Heuristic Methods (Descent Method (DM), Simulated Annealing (SA), Genetic Algorithm (GA), and the Tree Type Heuristics Method (TTHM) are applied to solve all suggested problems. Finally, the experimental results of Algorithm (3) are compared with the results of the Branch and Bound (BAB) method for optimal and Pareto optimal solutions for smaller instance sizes and compared to the Local Search Heuristic Methods for large instance sizes. These results ensure the efficiency of Algorithm (3) in a reasonable time. 展开更多

In this study, we examine the hydrodynamic characteristics of three rows of vertical slotted wall breakwaters in which the front and middle walls are permeable and partially immersed in a water channel of constant depth, whereas the third wall is impermeable. The wave–structure interaction and flow behavior of this type of breakwater arrangement are complicated and must be analyzed before breakwaters can be appropriately designed. To study the hydrodynamic breakwater performance, we developed a mathematical model based on the eigenfunction expansion method and a least squares technique for predicting wave interaction with three rows of vertical slotted wall breakwaters. We theoretically examined the wave transmission, reflection, energy loss, wave runup, and wave force under normal regular waves. Comparisons with experimental measurements show that the mathematical model results adequately reproduce most of the important features. The results of this investigation provide a better understanding of the hydrodynamic performance of triple-row vertical slotted wall breakwaters. 展开更多

In this paper,the nonlinear dynamic behavior of a string-beam coupled system subjected to external,parametric and tuned excitations is presented.The governing equations of motion are obtained for the nonlinear transverse vibrations of the string-beam coupled system which are described by a set of ordinary differential equations with two degrees of freedom.The case of 1:1 internal resonance between the modes of the beam and string,and the primary and combined resonance for the beam is considered.The method of multiple scales is utilized to analyze the nonlinear responses of the string-beam coupled system and obtain approximate solutions up to and including the second-order approximations.All resonance cases are extracted and investigated.Stability of the system is studied using frequency response equations and the phase-plane method.Numerical solutions are carried out and the results are presented graphically and discussed.The effects of the different parameters on both response and stability of the system are investigated.The reported results are compared to the available published work. 展开更多

Although ammonium dinitramide(ADN)has been targeted as a potential green monopropellant in future space vehicles,its application potential in Micro-electrical–Mechanical System(MEMS)thrusters or microthrusters has been seldom reported in open literature.In this paper,electrolytic decomposition of Ammonium Dinitramide(ADN)-based liquid monopropellant FLP-103 was carried out in an open chamber and MEMS thrusters were fabricated from poly-dimethylsiloxane(PDMS)to characterize the power consumption.Two thrust measurement methods were employed to investigate the electrolytic decomposition of FLP-103 in MEMS microthrusters.The results show that the monopropellant can be successfully ignited at room temperature through 80 V,0.1 A(8 W)using copper wire as electrodes.In the current thruster design,low thrust was obtained at FLP-103 flowrate of 40μl·min^(-1)but it generated the highest specific impulse,Isp,among all the flowrates tested.The experiments successfully demonstrated the potential application of electrolytic decomposition of FLP-103 in MEMS thrusters. 展开更多

Boundary layer flows and melting heat transfer of a Prandtl fluid over a stretching surface in the presence of fluid particle suspensions has been investigated.The converted set of boundary layer equations are solved numerically by RKF-45 method.Obtained numerical results for flow and heat transfer characteristics are deliberated for various physical parameters.Furthermore,the skin friction coefficient and Nusselt number are also presented in Tabs.2 and 3.It is found that the heat transfer rates are advanced in occurrence of nonlinear radiation compered to linear radiation.Also,it is noticed that velocity and temperature profile increases by increasing Prandtl parameter. 展开更多

With the help of inverse Hermite transform, we get stochastic soliton and periodic wave solutions of the Wick-type stochastic fractional KdV equation with conformable derivatives. The purpose of this paper is to propose a new multi stage algorithm for the recognition of isolated characters. It was similar work done before using only the center of gravity (This paper is extended version of “A fast recognition system for isolated printed characters using center of gravity”, LAP LAMBERT Academic Publishing 2011, ISBN: 978-38465-0002-6), but here we add using principal axis in order to make the algorithm rotation invariant. In my previous work which is published in LAP LAMBERT, I face a big problem that when the character is rotated I can’t recognize the character. So this adds constrain on the document to be well oriented but here I use the principal axis in order to unify the orientation of the character set and the characters in the scanned document. The algorithm can be applied for any isolated character such as Latin, Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic characters but it has been applied in this paper for Arabic characters. The approach uses normalized and isolated characters of the same size and extracts an image signature based on the center of gravity of the character after making the character principal axis vertical, and then the system compares these values to a set of signatures for typical characters of the set. The system then provides the closeness of match to all other characters in the set. 展开更多

Solutions with different orders and different number of corrections are obtained with the WHEP technique which uses the WienerHermite expansion and perturbation technique. The equivalent deterministic equations are derived for each order and correction. The solution ensemble average and variance are estimated and compared for different orders, different number of corrections and different strengths of the nonlinearity. The solutions are simulated using symbolic computation software such as Mathematica. The comparisons between different orders and different number of corrections show the importance of higher-order and higher corrected WHEP solutions for the nonlinear stochastic differential equations. 展开更多

The paper focuses on measuring self-similarity using few techniques by an index called Hurst index which is a self-similarity parameter. It has been evident that Internet traffic exhibits self-similarity. Motivated by this fact, real time web users at various centers considered here as traffic and it has been examined by various methods to test the self-similarity. The results from the experiments carried out verify that the traffic examined in the present study is self similar using a new method based on some descriptive measures;for example percentiles have been applied to compute Hurst parameter which gives intensity of the self-similarity. Numerical results and analysis we discussed and presented here play a significant role to improve the services at web centers in the view of quality of service (QOS). 展开更多

In particular, it is outlined the use of a reduced number of active degrees of freedom, the use of design solutions with flexural joints and Shape Memory Alloy(SMA) actuators for achieving miniaturization, cost reduction and easy operation features. Reflection characteristics of longitudinal strain waves in a semi-infinite elastic rod con-nected to a viscoelastic stratum are investigated analytically.The three-dimensional viscoelasticity the-ory is applied to the stratum,and the Laplace transform with respect to time and the numerical inverseLaplace transform by means of Laguerre function are used.The time histories for the longitudinalstrain of an arbitrary point of the rod are presented.Two typical viscoelastic models are considered,one is the usual Maxwell-Voigt model,the other is whose relaxation function is given by a power law.The numerical results for the two models are presented and compared each other and also with previ-ously published results for the elastic stratum. 展开更多
