Conventional plasticizers deteriorate mechanical and viscoelastic properties of the propellants due to their migration upon aging and long-term storage, which affects reliability and safety properties during exploitation. To address this issue, conventional plasticizer, dioctyl adipate(DOA),is replaced by reactive one, castor oil(CO).In addition, three different types of HTPB were used to obtain propellants with designed viscoelastic and mechanical properties. The CO increased propellants viscosity, without a significant impact on the propellant processability, regardless to the type of prepolymer.Conversely, mechanical properties were different depending on the type of resin, which were further analyzed by gel permeation chromatography(GPC).Addition of CO formed a denser polymer network and shifted T_(g) to higher values, compared to the compositions with DOA.The tensile strength of CO-containing propellants was lower at +20℃ and +50℃ compared to the reference compositions, while the strain at maximum load and strain at break were significantly increased with pronounced plastic deformation, especially for samples at -30℃.The inclusion of CO in the propellants composition gives more room for adjusting a wide range of mechanical properties. 展开更多

A novel extended Lindley lifetime model that exhibits unimodal or decreasing density shapes as well as increasing, bathtub or unimodal-then-bathtub failure rates, named the Marshall-Olkin-Lindley (MOL) model is studied. In this research, using a progressive Type-II censored, various inferences of the MOL model parameters oflife are introduced. Utilizing the maximum likelihood method as a classical approach, the estimators of themodel parameters and various reliability measures are investigated. Against both symmetric and asymmetric lossfunctions, the Bayesian estimates are obtained using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) technique with theassumption of independent gamma priors. From the Fisher information data and the simulatedMarkovian chains, the approximate asymptotic interval and the highest posterior density interval, respectively, of each unknownparameter are calculated. Via an extensive simulated study, the usefulness of the various suggested strategies isassessedwith respect to some evaluationmetrics such as mean squared errors, mean relative absolute biases, averageconfidence lengths, and coverage percentages. Comparing the Bayesian estimations based on the asymmetric lossfunction to the traditional technique or the symmetric loss function-based Bayesian estimations, the analysisdemonstrates that asymmetric loss function-based Bayesian estimations are preferred. Finally, two data sets, representing vinyl chloride and repairable mechanical equipment items, have been investigated to support theapproaches proposed and show the superiority of the proposed model compared to the other fourteen lifetimemodels. 展开更多

Given their numerous functional and architectural benefits, such as improved bearing capacity and increased resistance to elastic instability modes,cold-formed steel(CFS)built-up sections have become increasingly developed and used in recent years, particularly in the construction industry. This paper presents an analytical and numerical study of assembled CFS two single channel-shaped columns with different slenderness and configurations(backto-back,face-to-face,and box). These columns were joined by double-row rivets for the back-to-back and box configurations, whereas they were welded together for the face-to-face design. The built-up columns were filled with ordinary concrete of good strength.Finite element models were applied, using ABAQUS software,to assess mechanical performance and study the influence of assembly techniques on the behavior of cold-formed columns under axial compression.Analytical approaches based on Eurocode 3 and Eurocode 4 recommendations for un-filled and concrete-filled columns respectively were followed for the numerical analysis, and concrete confinement effects were also considered per American Concrete Institute(ACI)standards for face-to-face and box configurations. The obtained results indicated a good correlation between the numerical results and the proposed analytical methodology which did not exceed 8%.The failure modes showed that the columns failed due to instabilities such as local and global buckling. 展开更多

Coffee is a significant industry, accounting for 3% of Vietnam’s GDP, with annual export turnover consistently exceeding USD 3 billion. Despite global economic challenges affecting purchasing power at various times, Vietnam’s coffee exports in December 2023 continued to surge, reaching the highest level in the past 9 months at 190,000 tons, a 59.3% increase compared to November 2023, but still a slight 3.5% decrease from the same period last year. The export turnover reached USD 538 million, a 51% increase from November 2023 and a 26.4% increase from the same period last year. Therefore, forecasting the coffee export volume holds significant importance for coffee producers nationwide. This research employs the Box-Jenkins method to construct an ARIMA model for forecasting Vietnam’s coffee export volume based on annual data published by the General Statistics Office. Results indicate that among the models considered, the ARIMA(1, 1, 2) model is the most suitable. The study also provides short-term forecasts for Vietnam’s coffee export volume. However, the current model is limited to forecasting and is not yet optimized, as the assumed linearity in the model is a simplification. 展开更多

Nowadays, the fast development of nanobiotechnology, has led to rapid diagnosis of important infectious diseases such as arboviruses-borne diseases, vector-borne infections and waterborne parasites diseases and others in order to reduce and avoid further dissemination of the infections within the general population. Furthermore, new nanomedicines based on the application of silver and gold nanoparticles which are less toxic, more effective, and that does not generate resistance could help to solve the problems of parasitic disease like leishmaniasis and chagas disease. It turns out that the combination of nanoparticles with antibiotics not only reduces the toxicity of both agents towards human cells but also enhances their ability to destroy bacteria by facilitating the binding of antibiotics to the microbes. Moreover, combining nanoparticles with antimicrobial peptides and essential oils with nanoparticles generates genuine synergy against microbial resistance. 展开更多

A key feature that distinguishes cancer cells from all other cells is their capability to spread throughout the body.Although how cancer cells collectively migrate by following molecular rules which influence the state of cell-cell adhesion contacts has been comprehensively formulated, the impact of physical interactions on cell spreading remains less understood.Cumulative effects of physical interactions exist as the interplay between various physical parameters such as(1)tissue surface tension,(2)viscoelasticity caused by collective cell migration,and(3)solid stress accumulated in the cell aggregate core region. This review aims to point out the role of these physical parameters in cancer cell spreading by considering and comparing the rearrangement of various mono-cultured cancer and epithelial model systems such as the fusion of two cell aggregates. While epithelial cells undergo volumetric cell rearrangement driven by the tissue surface tension, which directs cell movement from the surface to the core region of two-aggregate systems, cancer cells rather perform surface cell rearrangement.Cancer cells migrate toward the surface of the two-aggregate system driven by the solid stress while the surface tension is significantly reduced. The solid stress, accumulated in the core region of the two-aggregate system,is capable of suppressing the movement of epithelial cells that can undergo the jamming state transition;however, this stress enhances the movement of cancer cells. We have focused here on the multi-scale rheological modeling approaches that aimed at reproducing and understanding these biological systems. 展开更多

Quadriplegia is a neuromuscular disease that may cause varying degrees of functional loss in trunk and limbs. In such cases, head movements can be used as an alternative communication channel. In this study,a human–machine interface which is controlled by human head movements is designed and implemented. The proposed system enables users to steer the desired movement direction and to control the speed of an output device by using head movements.Head movements of the users are detected using a 6 DOF IMUs measuring three-axis accelerometer and three-axis gyroscope. The head movement axes and the Euler angles have been associated with movement direction and speed, respectively. To ensure driving safety, the speed of the system is determined by considering the speed requested by the user and the obstacle distance on the route. In this context, fuzzy logic algorithm is employed for closed-loop speed control according to distance sensors and reference speed data.A car model was used as the output device on the machine interface. However, the wireless communication between human and machine interfaces provides to adapt this system to any remote device or systems. The implemented system was tested by five subjects.Performance of the system was evaluated in terms of task completion times and feedback from the subjects about their experience with the system. Results indicate that the proposed system is easy to use;and the control capability and usage speed increase with user experience. The control speed is improved with the increase in user experience. 展开更多

The extraction of features fromunstructured clinical data of Covid-19 patients is critical for guiding clinical decision-making and diagnosing this viral disease.Furthermore,an early and accurate diagnosis of COVID-19 can reduce the burden on healthcare systems. In this paper,an improved Term Weighting technique combined with Parts-Of-Speech(POS)Tagging is proposed to reduce dimensions for automatic and effective classification of clinical text related to Covid-19 disease.Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency(TF-IDF)is the most often used term weighting scheme(TWS).However,TF-IDF has several developments to improve its drawbacks,in particular,it is not efficient enough to classify text by assigning effective weights to the terms in unstructured data.In this research,we proposed a modification term weighting scheme:RTF-C-IEF and compare the proposed model with four extraction methods:TF,TF-IDF,TF-IHF,and TF-IEF.The experiment was conducted on two new datasets for COVID-19 patients. The first datasetwas collected from government hospitals in Iraq with 3053 clinical records, and the second dataset with 1446 clinical reports, was collected from several different websites.Based on the experimental results using several popular classifiers applied to the datasets of Covid-19,we observe that the proposed scheme RTF-C-IEF achieves is a consistent performer with the best scores in most of the experiments.Further, the modifiedRTF-C-IEF proposed in the study outperformed the original scheme and other employed term weighting methods in most experiments. Thus, the proper selection of term weighting scheme among the different methods improves the performance of the classifier and helps to find the informative term. 展开更多

This paper proposes a methodology for an alternative history matching process enhanced by the incorporation of a simplified binary interpretation of reservoir saturation logs(RST) as objective function. Incorporating fluids saturation logs during the history matching phase unlocks the possibility to adjust or select models that better represent the near wellbore waterfront movement, which is particularly important for uncertainty mitigation during future well interference assessments in water driven reservoirs. For the purposes of this study, a semi-synthetic open-source reservoir model was used as base case to evaluate the proposed methodology. The reservoir model represents a water driven, highly heterogenous sandstone reservoir from Namorado field in Brazil. To effectively compare the proposed methodology against the conventional methods, a commercial reservoir simulator was used in combination with a state-of-the-art benchmarking workflow based on the Big LoopTMapproach. A well-known group of binary metrics were evaluated to be used as the objective function, and the Matthew correlation coefficient(MCC) has been proved to offer the best results when using binary data from water saturation logs. History matching results obtained with the proposed methodology allowed the selection of a more reliable group of reservoir models, especially for cases with high heterogeneity. The methodology also offers additional information and understanding of sweep behaviour behind the well casing at specific production zones, thus revealing full model potential to define new wells and reservoir development opportunities. 展开更多

A new extended exponential lifetime model called Harris extended-exponential(HEE)distribution for data modelling with increasing and decreasing hazard rate shapes has been considered. In the reliability context, researchers prefer to use censoring plans to collect data in order to achieve a compromise between total test time and/or test sample size. So,this study considers both maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimates of the Harris extended-exponential distribution parameters and some of its reliability indices using a progressive Type-II censoring strategy.Under the premise of independent gamma priors, the Bayesian estimation is created using the squared-error and general entropy loss functions.Due to the challenging form of the joint posterior distribution,to evaluate the Bayes estimates, samples from the full conditional distributions are generated using Markov Chain Monte Carlo techniques. For each unknown parameter, the highest posterior density credible intervals and asymptotic confidence intervals are also determined.Through a simulated study, the usefulness of the various suggested strategies is assessed. The optimal progressive censoring plans are also shown, and various optimality criteria are investigated. Two actual data sets, taken from engineering and veterinary medicine areas, are analyzed to show how the offered point and interval estimators can be used in practice and to verify that the proposed model furnishes a good fit than other lifetimemodels:alpha power exponential,generalized-exponential,Nadarajah-Haghighi,Weibull,Lomax,gamma and exponential distributions.Numerical evaluations revealed that in the presence of progressively Type-II censored data, the Bayes estimation method against the squared-error(symmetric)loss is advised for getting the point and interval estimates of the HEE distribution. 展开更多

Epoxy is one of the most important polymers preferred in various technological applications thanks to its good mechanical properties and lightness. However, their low thermal conductivity limits their usage areas. Increasing the thermal conductivity of epoxy is an important research topic. One of the most ideal ways to achieve this is to improve the thermal conductivity of epoxy without increasing its weight, thanks to nanoparticles. Carbon nanotubes (CNT) and clays are among the materials used for this purpose. In this study, the thermal conductivities of hybrid polymer composites reinforced separately and together in an epoxy matrix were investigated. The aim of the study is to find out how CNT and nano clay affect the thermal conductivity of the epoxy matrix, separately and together, and reveal the synergistic effect of these nanoparticles. 展开更多

It is poorly soluble in water which results in decreased bioavailability of the drug in the organism. The increase in water solubility of insoluble or poorly soluble drugs is therefore of great importance, which is the aim of this study. Inclusion of the drug in the molecule with a higher water solubility significantly increases its solubility and biological availability. Natural and hydrophilic derivatives of natural cyclodextrins are in the spotlight for their role as solubilizing excipients. Studies indicate that the use of β-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes with acetylsalicylic acid formed, increases the solubility of the drug in water. Many advantages of drug-complexation with cyclodextrins have been reported in scientific literature which includes increased solubility, enhanced bioavailability, improved stability, masking of bad test or odour, reduced side effect. Orally administered aspirin requires high and frequent dosing because it undergoes extensive pre systematic metabolism. Also chronic oral aspirin use is associated with serious gastrointestinal side-effects. Complexation with CD alleviates the side effects to some extent. The bioavailability and solubility of aspirin has to be increased to overcome the side-effects of aspirin related to stomach and gastro intestinal tract. The phase solubility study was performed according to the method of Higuchi and Connors by adding the 2-acetoxi-benzencarboxylic acid in excess to different concentrations of different beta cyclodextrins solutions. Phase solubility study records shown that the stability constant and complex stoichiometry of 2-acetoxi-benzencarboxylic acid-CD complexes gives linearly improve with the concentration of CD. Complexes were analyzed by UV-VIS spectroscopy and were characterized by infrared spectroscopy. 展开更多

This paper outlines a mechanical transformation process for rubber recycling, demonstrating the development of a new material from used tires. With the crumbs obtained using a crusher-compactor, a novel material for the manufacture of O-rings has been developed, with properties close to those found on the market. The process includes an experimental methodology of a sulfur vulcanization system choice and the quantification of ingredients, as well as the experimental determination of cure parameters. Mechanical tests on the samples completed the work by providing the mechanical characteristics of both unaged and aged (thermo-oxidative ageing) novel material.
