However, the number of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells mobilized into peripheral circulation is not enough to exert therapeutic effects, and the method by which blood circulation is promoted to remove blood stasis influences stem cell homing. The main ingredient of Xuesaitong capsules is Panax notoginseng saponins, and Xuesaitong is one of the main drugs used for promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis. We established rat models of cerebral infarction by occlusion of the middle cerebral artery and then intragastrically administered Xuesaitong capsules(20, 40 and 60 mg/kg per day) for 28 successive days. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay showed that in rats with cerebral infarction, middle- and high-dose Xuesaitong significantly increased the level of stem cell factors and the number of CD117-positive cells in plasma and bone marrow and significantly decreased the number of CD54-and CD106-positive cells in plasma and bone marrow. The effect of low-dose Xuesaitong on these factors was not obvious. These findings demonstrate that middle- and high-dose Xuesaitong and hence Panax notoginseng saponins promote and increase the level and mobilization of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells in peripheral blood.展开更多

Lingguizhugan decoction significantly enhanced the viability of SH-SY5Y cells with amyloid-β peptide-induced injury, and lowered levels of interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α and nitric oxide in the culture supernatant of activated BV-2 microglia. The effects of 10-3 g/mL Lingguizhugan decoction were more significant. These results suggest that Lingguizhugan decoction can protect SH-SY5Y cells against amyloid-β peptide (25-35)-induced injury in a dose-dependent manner by inhibiting overexpression of inflammatory factors by activated microglia.展开更多

Survival time was estimated by the Kaplan-Meier curve and hazard ratios, and identifying prognostic factors were computed through Cox proportional hazard models.RESULTS:A total of 1666 PLHIV were included with 102 591 person-months of follow-up. Overall, 312(18.7%) patients died. The total mortality rate over the study period was 3.6 per 100 person-years,which was lower than the worldwide rate. The cumulative survival rate was 95.9% at 1 year[95% confidence interval(CI)(94.8-96.8)] and 80.4% at 6years [95% CI(78.4-82.3)]. Elevated death risks emerged among males, older individuals, and thosewithlowerCD4+T-cellcounts.CONCLUSION: TCM could increase survival and lengthen the life span of PLHIV in Henan province of China, as shown by our retrospective cohort study. Factors such as sex, age, education, and CD4+ T-cell counts correlated to survival. However, retrospective cohorts bias the data, so more prospective studies should be performed to confirm our primary results.展开更多

The doctors and scientists would like to argue how to enhance the validity of the rehabilitation treatment and how to further improve the level of treatment on stroke. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to quantitatively analyze the current worldwide progress in research on stroke rehabilitation treatment based on Web of Science database and ClinicalTrial.gov in the past 10 years. METHODS: We conducted a quantitative analysis of clinical trial articles regarding stroke rehabilitation published in English from 2003 to 2013 and indexed in the National Institutes of Health Clinical Trials registry and Web of Science databases. Data were downloaded on March 15, 2013. RESULTS: (1) From 2003 to 2013, 2 654 clinical trials investigating stroke were indexed in ClinicalTrials.gov. There were only 58 clinical trials registered in 2003, and there was a marked increase from 2005. A total of 605 clinical trials on the rehabilitation of stroke were conducted in the past 10 years. (2) The analysis showed that most of the trials in the field were registered by North American institutions. With respect to the Asian countries, China and Taiwan Region of China also published a reasonable proportion of the trials, but comparatively speaking, the number of trials is really rare. Most of the interventions were drugs, followed by the devices, and behavioral interventions were ranked third. (3) In the past 10 years, there were 4 052 studies on stroke indexed by Web of Science database. CONCLUSION: From perspective of research progress, we found that the number of clinical trials and papers on stroke rehabilitation has increased significantly in the past 10 years, between them a remarkable positive correlation exists.展开更多

Based on evaluation indicators for AIDS treatment using TCM,we discuss why the survival rate(which has been used widely in Western Medicine) should be adopted as a new important indicator of TCM treatment for AIDS. We advise that further prospective or retrospective cohort studies should be carried out to confirm this hypothesis.展开更多

文摘Catgut implantation at acupoints has been shown to alleviate spasticity after stroke in rats. However, the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. In this study,we used the rat middle cerebral artery occlusion model of stroke.Three days after surgery, absorbable surgical catgut sutures were implanted at Dazhui(GV14),Jizhong(GV6),Houhui,Guanyuan(CV4)and Zhongwan(CV12).The Zea Longa score was used to assess neurological function. The Modified Ashworth Scale was used to evaluate muscle tension. The 2,3,5-triphenyl-tetrazolium chloride assay was used to measure infarct volume.Immunohistochemical staining was performed for glutamate aspartate transporter(GLAST)and glial glutamate transporter-1(GLT-1)expression.Western blot assay was used to analyze the expression of GLAST and GLT-1.Reverse transcription and polymerase chain reaction were carried out to assess the expression of GLAST and GLT-1m RNAs.After catgut implantation at the acupoints, neurological function was substantially improved, muscle tension was decreased, and infarct volume was reduced in rats with spasticity after stroke.Furthermore, the expression of GLAST and GLT-1 m RNAs was increased on the injured(left)side. Our findings demonstrate that catgut implantation at acupoints alleviates spasticity after stroke, likely by increasing the expression of GLAST and GLT-1.

文摘OBJECTIVE: To provide survival estimates of people living with human immunodeficiency virus(PLHIV) after treatment with Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) in rural China, to identify the prognostic factors at enrollment, and to explore the effectiveness of TCM intreating PLHIV.METHODS: PLHIV who enrolled in national TCM HIV treatment trial program in October 2004 were analyzed in this study and followed up to October 2010. However, retrospective cohorts bias the data, so more prospective studies should be performed to confirm our primary results.
文摘BACKGROUND: Stroke presents as a transient or chronic brain dysfunction and is associated with high morbidity and high mortality. CONCLUSION: From perspective of research progress, we found that the number of clinical trials and papers on stroke rehabilitation has increased significantly in the past 10 years, between them a remarkable positive correlation exists.

文摘Henan Province in China has a major epidemic of human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome(HIV/AIDS).Chinese medicine(CM) has been used throughout the last decade, and a management modality was developed, which can be described by unified-planning,gradedadministration,and centralized-controlling(UGC).The UGC modality has one primary concept(patient-centered medicine from CM theory),four basic foundations(classifying administrative region, characteristics of CM on disease treatment, health resource conditions, and distribution of patients living with HIV),six important relationships(the "three uniformities and three combinations," and the six relationships therein guide the treatment of AIDS with CM),and four key sections(management, operation, records, and evaluation). In this article, the authors introduce the UGC modality, which could be beneficial to developing countries or resource-limited areas for the management of chronic infectious disease.

文摘Complementary and alternative medicine, including Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM),has been used as therapy against acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS) for almost 30 years. Based on evaluation indicators for AIDS treatment using TCM,we discuss why the survival rate(which has been used widely in Western Medicine) should be adopted as a new important indicator of TCM treatment for AIDS. We advise that further prospective or retrospective cohort studies should be carried out to confirm this hypothesis.
