This study aims to reveal the macroscopic permanent deformation(PD)behavior and the internal structural evolution of construction and demolition waste(CDW)under loading.Firstly, the initial matric suction of CDW was measured by the filter paper method.Secondly, the PD of CDW with different humidity and stress states was investigated by repeated load triaxial tests, and a comprehensive prediction model was established. Finally, the discrete element method was performed to analyze the internal structural evolution of CDW during deformation. These results showed that the VAN-GENUCHTEN model could describe the soil-water characteristic curve of CDW well. The PD increases with the increase of the deviator stress and the number of cyclic loading, but the opposite trend was observed when the initial matric suction and confining pressure increased. The proposed model in this study provides a satisfactory prediction of PD.The discrete element method could accurately simulate the macroscopic PD of CDW,and the shear force, interlock force and sliding content increase with the increase of deviator stress during the deformation. The research could provide useful reference for the deformation stability analysis of CDW under cyclic loading. 展开更多

In the past 20 years, great progress has been achieved in China in the construction of concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) arch bridges and concrete arch bridges with a CFST skeleton. The span of these bridges has been increasing rapidly, which is rare in the history of bridge development. The large-scale construction of expressways and high-speed railways demands the development of long-span arch bridges, and advances in design and construction techniques have made it possible to construct such bridges. In the present study, the current status, development, and major innovative technologies of CFST arch bridges and concrete arch bridges with a CFST skeleton in China are elaborated. This paper covers the key con- struction technologies of CFST arch bridges, such as the design, manufacture, and installation of steel tube arch trusses, the preparation and pouring of in-tube concrete, and the construction of the world's longest CFST arch bridge-the First Hejiang Yangtze River Bridge. The main construction technologies of rein- forced concrete arch bridges are also presented, which include cable-stayed fastening-hanging cantilever assembly, adjusting the load by means of stay cables, surrounding the concrete for arch rib pouring, and so forth. In addition, the construction of two CFST skeleton concrete arch bridges-the Guangxi Yongning Yong River Bridge and the Yunnan-Guangxi Railway Nanpan River Bridge--is discussed. CFST arch bridges in China have already gained a world-leading position; with the continuous innovation of key technologies, China will become the new leader in promoting the development of arch bridges. 展开更多

The optimization of the inter-helix spacing is a key issue of the axial bearing capacity of helical piles. In this paper, based on the cavity expansion,an analytical approach considering the small-strain stiffness, strength, compressibility and stress level of sand around the helical pile was proposed to analyze the influence zone of the helices to determine the optimal inter-helix spacing in sand. The calculation results of the proposed method were verified using the centrifuge test data and finite element analysis for helical pile in Congleton HST95 sand. They were also compared with those using the Meyerhof pile foundation theory. The results show that the optimal inter-helix spacing based on Meyerhof pile foundation theory differs significantly from the measurement. The range of the influence zone for the helices in sand calculated by the cavity expansion theory matches with the data from literature. The calculation results with the proposed method are consistent with the range of the optimal spacing ratio inferred in the centrifuge tests. The results based on the two-dimensional(2D)finite element model(FEM)are also basically consistent with the calculated analytical solution. 展开更多

Sensory evaluation of aromas differed among three sweet osmanthus (Osmanthus fragrans) cultivar groups. The purpose of this study was to investigate the aroma-active compounds responsible for these differences. Methods: Gas chromatography-olfactometry (GC-O) and GC-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) were used to analyze the aroma-active compounds and volatiles of creamy-white (‘Houban Yingui’, HBYG), yellow (‘Liuye Jingui’, LYJG), and orange (‘Gecheng Dangui’, GCDG) cultivars. Results:Seventeen aroma-active compounds were detected among 54 volatiles. trans-β-Ocimene, trans-β-ionone, and linalool, which were major volatiles, were identified as aroma-active, while cis-3-hexenyl butanoate,γ-terpinene, and hexyl butanoate were also aroma-active compounds, although their contents were low. Analysis of the odors was based on the sum of the modified frequency (MF) values of aroma-active compounds in different odor groups. HBYG contained more herb odors, contributed by cis-β-ocimene and trans-β-ocimene, while LYJG had more woody/violet/fruity odors released by trans-β-ionone, α-ionone, and hexyl butanoate. In GCDG, the more floral odors were the result of cis-linalool oxide, trans-linalool oxide, and linalool. Conclusions:Aroma-active compounds were not necessarily only the major volatiles:some volatiles with low content also contributed to aroma. The aroma differences among the three cultivars resulted from variation in the content of different odor groups and in the intensities of aroma-active compounds. 展开更多
