Objective:To assess the prevalence of disease and microfilaraemia in villages of Karimnagar and Chittoor districts. Methods:Data on age and sex of all the respondents were collected and compared with the microfilaria rate(mf) and density(20μL of peripheral blood by using finger prick method) to examines the relationship between the dynamics of Wuchereria bancrofti among the population. Results:Microfilaraemia prevalence was found among all the age groups and its occurrence was more prevalent especially above 30 years age groups.Similarly, the microfilaraemia and disease rates were found significantly higher in males compared to females. Conclusions:Using these baseline data would be useful in planning for the elimination of lymphatic filariasis in Andhra Pradesh as per the WHO goal to eliminate lymphatic filariasis by 2020. 展开更多

Objective:To assess the virus infection in mosquitoes during different seasons and correlated with various climatic factors. Methods:The field collected vectors were screened for Japanese encephalitis(JE) virus after dessication using ELISA method. Most of the positive pools were recorded from Culex tritaeniorhynchus(Cx.tritaeniorhynchus) and Culex.gelidus(Cx.gelidus) during JE transmission season(winter) and some positive pools were also reported during non JE transmission periods(i.e.summer and rainy seasons). Results:The minimum infection rates(MIR) of 1.75 from Cx.tritaeniorhynchus and 0.17 from Cx.gelidus has been reported in the year 2002 at the beginning of the study and the values were found nil at the end of the study(2006) from the study areas of Kurnool district. Conclusions:From this study it is noted that MTR of Cx.gelidus and Cx.tritaeniorhynchus were modulated by various meteorological parameters. The mosquito vector abundance increases after the monsoon period(winter) and lowest in dry season(summer). Similarly,MIR fluctuated between seasons with higher MIR recorded after monsoon period and lower in the rest of season.Impact of these metrological parameters in JE virus infected mosquitoes is discussed in this paper. 展开更多

A series of CeO2-Al2O3, CeO2-TiO2, CeO2-ZrO2, and CeO2-SiO2 mixed-oxide supported copper catalysts were prepared by a modified deposition-precipitation method from ultra dilute aqueous solutions and were investigated for hydrogenolysis of cellulose in aqueous medium, in the presence of hydrogen to produce sorbitol as major product. Among all the catalysts tested in the present work, CuO/CeO2ZrO2?catalyst proved to be the most promising with high conversion (92%) and excellent selectivity (sorbitol 99.1%), at an intermediate reaction temperature of 245°C in a neutral aqueous solution without an aid of liquid phase acid. The catalyst was recyclable in repeated runs and no deactivation was observed even after five reaction cycles. CuO/CeO2-ZrO2 has been characterized by XRD, SEM, TPR and BET surface area techniques. 展开更多
