AIM:To assess the performance of macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer thickness(mGCIPLT)and 10-2 visual field(VF)parameters in detecting early glaucoma and evaluating the severity of advanced glaucoma.METHODS:T...AIM:To assess the performance of macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer thickness(mGCIPLT)and 10-2 visual field(VF)parameters in detecting early glaucoma and evaluating the severity of advanced glaucoma.METHODS:Totally 127 eyes from 89 participants(36 eyes of 19 healthy participants,45 eyes of 31 early glaucoma patients and 46 eyes of 39 advanced glaucoma patients)were included.The relationships between the optical coherence tomography(OCT)-derived parameters and VF sensitivity were determined.Patients with early glaucoma were divided into eyes with or without central 10°of the VF damages(CVFDs),and the diagnostic performances of OCT-derived parameters were assessed.RESULTS:In early glaucoma,the mGCIPLT was significantly correlated with 10-2 VF pattern standard deviation(PSD;with average mGCIPLT:β=-0.046,95%CI,-0.067 to-0.024,P<0.001).In advanced glaucoma,the mGCIPLT was related to the 24-2 VF mean deviation(MD;with average mGCIPLT:β=0.397,95%CI,0.199 to 0.595,P<0.001),10-2 VF MD(with average mGCIPLT:β=0.762,95%CI,0.485 to 1.038,P<0.001)and 24-2 VF PSD(with average mGCIPLT:β=0.244,95%CI,0.124 to 0.364,P<0.001).Except for the minimum and superotemporal mGCIPLT,the decrease of mGCIPLT in early glaucomatous eyes with CVFDs was more severe than that of early glaucomatous eyes without CVFDs.The area under the curve(AUC)of the average mGCIPLT(AUC=0.949,95%CI,0.868 to 0.982)was greater than that of the average circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness(cpRNFLT;AUC=0.827,95%CI,0.674 to 0.918)and rim area(AUC=0.799,95%CI,0.610 to 0.907)in early glaucomatous eyes with CVFDs versus normal eyes.CONCLUSION:The 10-2 VF and mGCIPLT parameters are complementary to 24-2 VF,cpRNFLT and ONH parameters,especially in detecting early glaucoma with CVFDs and evaluating the severity of advanced glaucoma in group level.展开更多
●AIM:To explore the combined application of surgical navigation nasal endoscopy(NNE)and three-dimensional printing technology(3DPT)for the adjunctive treatment of orbital blowout fractures(OBF).●METHODS:Retrospectiv...●AIM:To explore the combined application of surgical navigation nasal endoscopy(NNE)and three-dimensional printing technology(3DPT)for the adjunctive treatment of orbital blowout fractures(OBF).●METHODS:Retrospective analysis was conducted on the data of patients with OBF who underwent surgical treatment at the Affiliated Eye Hospital of Nanchang University between July 2012 and November 2022.The control group consisted of patients who received traditional surgical treatment(n=43),while the new surgical group(n=52)consisted of patients who received NNE with 3DPT.The difference in therapeutic effects between the two groups was evaluated by comparing the duration of the operation,best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),enophthalmos difference,recovery rate of eye movement disorder,recovery rate of diplopia,and incidence of postoperative complications.●RESULTS:The study included 95 cases(95 eyes),with 63 men and 32 women.The patients’age ranged from 5 to 67y(35.21±15.75y).The new surgical group and the control group exhibited no statistically significant differences in the duration of the operation,BCVA and enophthalmos difference.The recovery rates of diplopia in the new surgical group were significantly higher than those in the control group at 1mo[OR=0.03,95%CI(0.01–0.15),P<0.0000]and 3mo[OR=0.11,95%CI(0.03–0.36),P<0.0000]postoperation.Additionally,the recovery rates of eye movement disorders at 1 and 3mo after surgery were OR=0.08,95%CI(0.03–0.24),P<0.0000;and OR=0.01,95%CI(0.00–0.18),P<0.0000.The incidence of postoperative complications was lower in the new surgical group compared to the control group[OR=4.86,95%CI(0.95–24.78),P<0.05].●CONCLUSION:The combination of NNE and 3DPT can shorten the recovery time of diplopia and eye movement disorder in patients with OBF.展开更多
AIM:To investigate the biomechanical properties and practical application of absorbable materials in orbital fracture repair.METHODS:The three-dimensional(3D)model of orbital blowout fractures was reconstructed using ...AIM:To investigate the biomechanical properties and practical application of absorbable materials in orbital fracture repair.METHODS:The three-dimensional(3D)model of orbital blowout fractures was reconstructed using Mimics21.0 software.The repair guide plate model for inferior orbital wall fracture was designed using 3-matic13.0 and Geomagic wrap 21.0 software.The finite element model of orbital blowout fracture and absorbable repair plate was established using 3-matic13.0 and ANSYS Workbench 21.0 software.The mechanical response of absorbable plates,with thicknesses of 0.6 and 1.2 mm,was modeled after their placement in the orbit.Two patients with inferior orbital wall fractures volunteered to receive single-layer and double-layer absorbable plates combined with 3D printing technology to facilitate surgical treatment of orbital wall fractures.RESULTS:The finite element models of orbital blowout fracture and absorbable plate were successfully established.Finite element analysis(FEA)showed that when the Young’s modulus of the absorbable plate decreases to 3.15 MPa,the repair material with a thickness of 0.6 mm was influenced by the gravitational forces of the orbital contents,resulting in a maximum total deformation of approximately 3.3 mm.Conversely,when the absorbable plate was 1.2 mm thick,the overall maximum total deformation was around 0.4 mm.The half-year follow-up results of the clinical cases confirmed that the absorbable plate with a thickness of 1.2 mm had smaller maximum total deformation and better clinical efficacy.CONCLUSION:The biomechanical analysis observations in this study are largely consistent with the clinical situation.The use of double-layer absorbable plates in conjunction with 3D printing technology is recommended to support surgical treatment of infraorbital wall blowout fractures.展开更多

Balancing electron transfer and intermediate adsorption ability of bifunctional catalysts via tailoring electronic structures is crucial for green hydrogen production,while it still remains challenging due to lacking ...Balancing electron transfer and intermediate adsorption ability of bifunctional catalysts via tailoring electronic structures is crucial for green hydrogen production,while it still remains challenging due to lacking efficient strategies.Herein,one efficient and universal strategy is developed to greatly regulate electronic structures of the metallic Ni-Fe-P catalysts via in-situ introducing the rare earth(RE)atoms(Ni-Fe-RE-P,RE=La,Ce,Pr,and Nd).Accordingly,the as-prepared optimal Ni-Fe-Ce-P/CC self-supported bifunctional electrodes exhibited superior electrocatalytic activity and excellent stability with the low overpotentials of 247 and 331 mV at 100 mA cm^(-2) for HER and OER,respectively.In the assembled electrolyzer,the Ni-Fe-Ce-P/CC as bifunctional electrodes displayed low operation potential of 1.49 V to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm^(-2),and the catalytic performance can be maintained for 100 h.Experimental results combined with density functional theory(DFT)calculation reveal that Ce doping leads to electron decentralization and crystal structure distortion,which can tailor the band structures and d-band center of Ni-Fe-P,further increasing conductivity and optimizing intermediate adsorption energy.Our work not only proposes a valuable strategy to regulate the electron transfer and intermediate adsorption of electrocatalysts via RE atoms doping,but also provides a deep under-standing of regulation mechanism of metallic electrocatalysts for enhanced water splitting.展开更多
Glaucoma is a kind of optic neuropathy mainly manifested in the permanent death of retinal ganglion cells(RGCs),atrophy of the optic nerve,and loss of visual ability.The main risk factors for glaucoma consist of the p...Glaucoma is a kind of optic neuropathy mainly manifested in the permanent death of retinal ganglion cells(RGCs),atrophy of the optic nerve,and loss of visual ability.The main risk factors for glaucoma consist of the pathological elevation of intraocular pressure(IOP)and aging.Although the mechanism of glaucoma remains an open question,a theory related to mitochondrial dysfunction has been emerging in the last decade.Reactive oxygen species(ROS)from the mitochondrial respiratory chain are abnormally produced as a result of mitochondrial dysfunction.Oxidative stress takes place when the cellular antioxidant system fails to remove excessive ROS promptly.Meanwhile,more and more studies show that there are other common features of mitochondrial dysfunction in glaucoma,including damage of mitochondrial DNA(mt DNA),defective mitochondrial quality control,ATP reduction,and other cellular changes,which are worth summarizing and further exploring.The purpose of this review is to explore mitochondrial dysfunction in the mechanism of glaucomatous optic neuropathy.Based on the mechanism,the existing therapeutic options are summarized,including medications,gene therapy,and red-light therapy,which are promising to provide feasible neuroprotective ideas for the treatment of glaucoma.展开更多
AIM:To characterize the ophthalmic clinical phenotype of a family with retinitis pigmentosa(RP)and closed-angle glaucoma and to detect pathogenic genes and mutation sites causing RP in this family.METHODS:Ophthalmic c...AIM:To characterize the ophthalmic clinical phenotype of a family with retinitis pigmentosa(RP)and closed-angle glaucoma and to detect pathogenic genes and mutation sites causing RP in this family.METHODS:Ophthalmic clinic performance was examined in detail in 8 enrolled family members.Genomic DNA was extracted from the peripheral blood of 4 family members for whole-exome sequencing(WES)to select potential genetic mutations whose structures were identified by bioinformatics analysis.Then,Sanger sequencing was used in 12 family members and control group members to validate and confirm the disease-causing mutation loci,and we analyzed the genotype-phenotype relationships.RESULTS:The known c.512C>T(p.P171L)mutation in the rhodopsin(RHO)gene was only found in afflicted family members and was confirmed by WES and Sanger sequencing as the pathogenic mutation in this family.In addition to being diagnosed with RP,family member III:4 was found to have bilateral closed-angle glaucoma,high myopia,and concurrent cataracts,and family members II:2 and II:4 had pathological changes of anterior chamber angle narrowing.Family members IV:3 and IV:4 were found to have retinoschisis.CONCLUSION:Glaucoma and related pathological changes,such as retinoschisis,in family members are preliminarily considered RP complications caused by RHO mutation.展开更多
AIM:To evaluate the lateral geniculate nucleus(LGN)volume and height using magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)in glaucoma patients.METHODS:Literatures retrieval was carried out through Pub Med,Web of Science,Embase,and Co...AIM:To evaluate the lateral geniculate nucleus(LGN)volume and height using magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)in glaucoma patients.METHODS:Literatures retrieval was carried out through Pub Med,Web of Science,Embase,and Cochrane Library.Studies that compared the volume and height of LGN in glaucoma patients with that in control subjects were included.The volume and height of LGN were extracted from the included studies.The Review Manager 5.4.1 software was used for the Meta-analysis.RESULTS:This Meta-analysis included 10 crosssectional studies,including the eyes of 223 glaucoma patients and 185 healthy controls.Compared with the control subjects,the volume and height of LGN in glaucoma patients measured by MRI were significantly reduced{-29.13 mm3,95%[confidence interval(CI):-44.82 to-13.43,P=0.0003;-0.61 mm,95%CI:-0.78 to-0.44,P<0.00001,respectively]}.Subgroup analysis demonstrated that the differences of LGN volume and height between glaucoma patients and control subjects in the older group were smaller than that in the younger group,and LGN volume decreased with the increase of glaucoma severity.CONCLUSION:The results demonstrate that the volume and height of LGN are decreased in glaucoma patients,and LGN volume can be considered a parameter of glaucoma severity.展开更多

Litter decomposition is the fundamental process in nutrient cycling and soil carbon(C) sequestration in terrestrial ecosystems. The global-wide increase in nitrogen(N) inputs is expected to alter litter decomposit...Litter decomposition is the fundamental process in nutrient cycling and soil carbon(C) sequestration in terrestrial ecosystems. The global-wide increase in nitrogen(N) inputs is expected to alter litter decomposition and,ultimately, affect ecosystem C storage and nutrient status. Temperate grassland ecosystems in China are usually N-deficient and particularly sensitive to the changes in exogenous N additions. In this paper, we conducted a 1,200-day in situ experiment in a typical semi-arid temperate steppe in Inner Mongolia to investigate the litter decomposition as well as the dynamics of litter C and N concentrations under three N addition levels(low N with 50 kg N/(hm2?a)(LN), medium N with 100 kg N/(hm2?a)(MN), and high N with 200 kg N/(hm2?a)(HN)) and three N addition forms(ammonium-N-based with 100 kg N/(hm2?a) as ammonium sulfate(AS), nitrate-N-based with 100 kg N/(hm2?a) as sodium nitrate(SN), and mixed-N-based with 100 kg N/(hm2?a) as calcium ammonium nitrate(CAN)) compared to control with no N addition(CK). The results indicated that the litter mass remaining in all N treatments exhibited a similar decomposition pattern: fast decomposition within the initial 120 days, followed by a relatively slow decomposition in the remaining observation period(120–1,200 days). The decomposition pattern in each treatment was fitted well in two split-phase models, namely, a single exponential decay model in phase I(〈398 days) and a linear decay function in phase II(≥398 days). The three N addition levels exerted insignificant effects on litter decomposition in the early stages(〈398 days, phase I; P〉0.05). However, MN and HN treatments inhibited litter mass loss after 398 and 746 days, respectively(P〈0.05). AS and SN treatments exerted similar effects on litter mass remaining during the entire decomposition period(P〉0.05). The effects of these two N addition forms differed greatly from those of CAN after 746 and 1,053 days, respectively(P〈0.05). During the decomposition period, N concentrations in the decomposing litter increased whereas C concentrations decreased, which also led to an exponential decrease in litter C:N ratios in all treatments. No significant effects were induced by N addition levels and forms on litter C and N concentrations(P〉0.05). Our results indicated that exogenous N additions could exhibit neutral or inhibitory effects on litter decomposition, and the inhibitory effects of N additions on litter decomposition in the final decay stages are not caused by the changes in the chemical qualities of the litter, such as endogenous N and C concentrations. These results will provide an important data basis for the simulation and prediction of C cycle processes in future N-deposition scenarios.展开更多
AIM:To investigate the efficacy and safety of Honghua preserved amniotic membrane(AM)for preventing scar formation of the filtering bleb in a rabbit model of glaucoma trabeculectomy surgery.METHODS:Totally 36 rabbits(...AIM:To investigate the efficacy and safety of Honghua preserved amniotic membrane(AM)for preventing scar formation of the filtering bleb in a rabbit model of glaucoma trabeculectomy surgery.METHODS:Totally 36 rabbits(36 eyes)were randomly divided into 3 groups:the experimental group(ocular trabeculectomy in combination with Honghua preserved AM transplantation),the control group(ocular trabeculectomy surgery in combination with AM implantation),and the blank group(single trabeculectomy).Clinical observations[including intraocular pressure(IOP),filtering blebs and complications],MassonTrichrome staining,real-time quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(real-time PCR),Western blot were performed on different time points(D1,D7,D14,D21 and D56)after the surgery.RESULTS:After operated for 14d,there were statistically significant differences in the filtering blebs compared to the situation before operation(P【0.05),whereas no statistically difference on that among three groups(P】0.05).After 21d,the IOP of experimental group was lowest(P【0.05).There was significant difference between control group and blank group(P【0.05).On postoperative D14,the mean number of fibroblasts in the experimental group was significantlylower(40.6±10.2)compared to those in the control group(54.4±10.8)and blank group(68.2±11.6)(P【0.05,respectively).The mean numbers of the macrophage in the experimental and control groups were respcitively significantly lower versus the blank group(P【0.05,P【0.05,respectively).Compared to that in blank group,the level of transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β1)expression in sclera and conjunctival areas was reduced in the experimental and control groups on protein and mRNA level(P【0.05),but not significant difference between these two groups(P】0.05).CONCLUSION:The trabeculectory surgery with Honghua preserved AM can control IOP,sustain the functional filtration bleb,inhibit the proliferation of fibroblasts and open the filtrating pathway on the rabbit glaucoma models.展开更多

METHODS: The clinical data and follow-up data of 54 subjects with orbital blowout fractures were retrospectively analyzed. The study was divided into three groups according to the used repair materials: titanium mesh(16 cases), Medpor(12 cases), and Medpor titanium mesh(26 cases). All test data were analyzed using the SPSS version 23.0 statistical software. The mean age and duration of disease between the groups were compared through oneway analysis of variance. The Chi-square(χ~2) test was used to compare the number of males and females, different fracture types, and different surgical approaches among groups. The χ~2 test was used to compare the frequencies for complications in each group.RESULTS: The baseline characteristics of age and gender in each group were matched(F=1.763, P=0.172;χ~2=0.026, P=0.987). In addition, there was no difference in the type of fracture and surgical approach(χ~2=0.460, P=0.977;χ~2=0.691, P=0.952), or the incidence of complications(χ~2=0.081, P=0.960) between the three groups. CONCLUSION: Although there is no difference in effect of various repair materials on the incidence of complications, the effect of repair materials on postoperative complications of orbital blowout fractures should not be ignored.展开更多
AIM:To investigate the effects of luteolin on apoptosis,the cell cycle,and the expression and secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)in human choroidal melanoma cells(C918 and OCM-1).METHODS:C918 and OCM...AIM:To investigate the effects of luteolin on apoptosis,the cell cycle,and the expression and secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)in human choroidal melanoma cells(C918 and OCM-1).METHODS:C918 and OCM-1 cells cultured in vitro were treated with various concentrations of luteolin(0,5,10,15μmol/L).Cell growth was observed with an inverted microscope,and cell cycle arrest was detected by propidium iodide(PI)staining using flow cytometry.Apoptosis was detected by Hoechst33342 staining,and apoptosis rate was determined by Annexin V-FITC/PI experiments using flow cytometry.The expression of apoptosis-related proteins Bcl-2,Bax and VEGF was analyzed using Western blots.The levels of VEGF secreted by the cells into the supernatant was analyzed using ELISA.RESULTS:After treating with 5 to 15μmol/L luteolin for 48 h,the fusion degree of C918 and OCM-1 cells decreased,and more floating apoptotic cells appeared.Luteolin treatment increased the G0-G1 phase ratio of the C918 and OCM-1 cells,blocked cell cycle progression,and increased the apoptosis rate of the C918 and OCM-1 cells.Western blot showed that luteolin decreased the expression of Bcl-2 and VEGF in the C918 and OCM-1 cells and increased the expression of Bax protein.The ELISA results showed that 10 to 15μmol/L luteolin decreased the cell secretion of VEGF.CONCLUSION:Luteolin may induce apoptosis by regulating the levels of apoptosis-related proteins in C918 and OCM-1 cells.Luteolin can induce cell cycle arrest,decrease the expression of VEGF.展开更多

In this study, cumulative MR was determined by alkali absorption method in 1, 3, 7, 14, 21,28, 35, 42, 49, and 56 days from the soil in a representative plantations in the subtropical region of China. The treatment of plantations contained no plant (CK), orange trees (Citrus reticulata)+Bahia grass (Paspalum notatum) (GB), orange trees (C. reticulata)+Bahia grass (P. notatum)+soybean (Giycine max (L.) Merrill) (GBH). Results showed that plantation had significant effects on microbial respiration and the responses of microbial respiration to plantation from different soil layers and topographies were different: in 0-20 cm in uphill: GB〉GBH〉CK; in 20-40 cm in uphill: GBH〉CK〉GB; in 0-20 cm in downhill: GBH〉CK〉GB; in 20-40 cm in downhill: GB〉CK〉GBH. Furthermore, plantation also altered the relationships between MR and soil properties. In CK, microbial respiration was positively correlated with NH4+ and soil total N, and negatively correlated with soil moisture, pH, NO3-, and microbial biomass carbon (MBC). In GB, microbial respira- tion under GB significantly negatively correlated with dissolved organic carbon (DOC). In GBH, microbial respiration under GBH was positively correlated with NH4+, MBC, total soil carbon (TC), and total soil nitrogen (TN), and negatively correlated with soil moisture (SM), pH, NO-, and DOC. The underlying mechanisms could be attributed to soil heterogeneity and the effects of plantation on soil properties. Our results also showed that plantation significantly increased soil C storage, which suggested plantation is a key measure to enhance soil C sequestration and mitigate global CO2 emission, especially for the soil with low initial soil carbon content or bared soil.展开更多

RGC-5 cells were cultured in Dulbecco's-mo...The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of inhibition of calpain on retinal ganglion cell-5(RGC-5) necroptosis following oxygen glucose deprivation(OGD). RGC-5 cells were cultured in Dulbecco's-modified essential medium and necroptosis was induced by 8-h OGD. PI staining and flow cytometry were performed to detect RGC-5 necrosis. The calpain expression was detected by Western blotting and immunofluorescence staining. The calpain activity was tested by activity detection kit. Flow cytometry was used to detect the effect of calpain on RGC-5 necroptosis following OGD with or without N-acetyl-leucyl-leucyl-norleucinal(ALLN) pre-treatment. Western blot was used to detect the protein level of truncated apoptosis inducing factor(t AIF) in RGC-5 cells following OGD. The results showed that there was an up-regulation of the calpain expression and activity following OGD. Upon adding ALLN, the calpain activity was inhibited and t AIF was reduced following OGD along with the decreased number of RGC-5 necroptosis. METHODS: Cultu...AIM: To determine the effect of different concentrations of the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors tacrine and donepezil on retinal protection in AChE(+/-) mice (AChE knockout mice) of various ages. METHODS: Cultured ARPE -19 cells were treated with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) at concentrations of 0, 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 mu mol/L and protein levels were measured using Western blot. Intraperitoneal injections of tacrine and donepezil (0.1 mg/mL, 0.2 mg/mL and 0.4 mg/mL) were respectively given to AChE4- mice aged 2mo and 4mo and wild-type S129 mice for 7d; phosphate buffered saline (PBS) was administered to the control group. The mice were sacrificed after 30d by cardiac perfusion and retinal samples were taken. AChE(+/-) deficient mice were identified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis using specific genotyping protocols obtained from the Jackson Laboratory website. H&E staining, immunofluorescence and Western blot were performed to observe AChE protein expression changes in the retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cell layer. RESULTS: Different concentrations of H2O2 induced AChE expression during RPE cell apoptosis. AChE(+/-) mice retina were thinner than those in wild -type mice (P< 0.05); the retinal structure was still intact at 2mo but became thinner with increasing age(P <0.05); furthermore, AChE'l- mice developed more slowly than wild-type mice (P <0.05). Increased concentrations of tacrine and donepezil did not significantly improve the protection of the retina function and morphology (P >0.05). CONCLUSION: in viva, tacrine and donepezil can inhibit the expression of AChE; the decrease of AChE expression in the retina is beneficial for the development of the retina.展开更多

文摘AIM:To assess the performance of macular ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer thickness(mGCIPLT)and 10-2 visual field(VF)parameters in detecting early glaucoma and evaluating the severity of advanced glaucoma.METHODS:Totally 127 eyes from 89 participants(36 eyes of 19 healthy participants,45 eyes of 31 early glaucoma patients and 46 eyes of 39 advanced glaucoma patients)were included.The relationships between the optical coherence tomography(OCT)-derived parameters and VF sensitivity were determined.Patients with early glaucoma were divided into eyes with or without central 10°of the VF damages(CVFDs),and the diagnostic performances of OCT-derived parameters were assessed.RESULTS:In early glaucoma,the mGCIPLT was significantly correlated with 10-2 VF pattern standard deviation(PSD;with average mGCIPLT:β=-0.046,95%CI,-0.067 to-0.024,P<0.001).In advanced glaucoma,the mGCIPLT was related to the 24-2 VF mean deviation(MD;with average mGCIPLT:β=0.397,95%CI,0.199 to 0.595,P<0.001),10-2 VF MD(with average mGCIPLT:β=0.762,95%CI,0.485 to 1.038,P<0.001)and 24-2 VF PSD(with average mGCIPLT:β=0.244,95%CI,0.124 to 0.364,P<0.001).Except for the minimum and superotemporal mGCIPLT,the decrease of mGCIPLT in early glaucomatous eyes with CVFDs was more severe than that of early glaucomatous eyes without CVFDs.The area under the curve(AUC)of the average mGCIPLT(AUC=0.949,95%CI,0.868 to 0.982)was greater than that of the average circumpapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness(cpRNFLT;AUC=0.827,95%CI,0.674 to 0.918)and rim area(AUC=0.799,95%CI,0.610 to 0.907)in early glaucomatous eyes with CVFDs versus normal eyes.CONCLUSION:The 10-2 VF and mGCIPLT parameters are complementary to 24-2 VF,cpRNFLT and ONH parameters,especially in detecting early glaucoma with CVFDs and evaluating the severity of advanced glaucoma in group level.

文摘●AIM:To explore the combined application of surgical navigation nasal endoscopy(NNE)and three-dimensional printing technology(3DPT)for the adjunctive treatment of orbital blowout fractures(OBF).●METHODS:Retrospective analysis was conducted on the data of patients with OBF who underwent surgical treatment at the Affiliated Eye Hospital of Nanchang University between July 2012 and November 2022.The control group consisted of patients who received traditional surgical treatment(n=43),while the new surgical group(n=52)consisted of patients who received NNE with 3DPT.The difference in therapeutic effects between the two groups was evaluated by comparing the duration of the operation,best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),enophthalmos difference,recovery rate of eye movement disorder,recovery rate of diplopia,and incidence of postoperative complications.●RESULTS:The study included 95 cases(95 eyes),with 63 men and 32 women.The patients’age ranged from 5 to 67y(35.21±15.75y).The new surgical group and the control group exhibited no statistically significant differences in the duration of the operation,BCVA and enophthalmos difference.The recovery rates of diplopia in the new surgical group were significantly higher than those in the control group at 1mo[OR=0.03,95%CI(0.01–0.15),P<0.0000]and 3mo[OR=0.11,95%CI(0.03–0.36),P<0.0000]postoperation.Additionally,the recovery rates of eye movement disorders at 1 and 3mo after surgery were OR=0.08,95%CI(0.03–0.24),P<0.0000;and OR=0.01,95%CI(0.00–0.18),P<0.0000.The incidence of postoperative complications was lower in the new surgical group compared to the control group[OR=4.86,95%CI(0.95–24.78),P<0.05].●CONCLUSION:The combination of NNE and 3DPT can shorten the recovery time of diplopia and eye movement disorder in patients with OBF.

文摘AIM:To investigate the biomechanical properties and practical application of absorbable materials in orbital fracture repair.METHODS:The three-dimensional(3D)model of orbital blowout fractures was reconstructed using Mimics21.0 software.The repair guide plate model for inferior orbital wall fracture was designed using 3-matic13.0 and Geomagic wrap 21.0 software.The finite element model of orbital blowout fracture and absorbable repair plate was established using 3-matic13.0 and ANSYS Workbench 21.0 software.The mechanical response of absorbable plates,with thicknesses of 0.6 and 1.2 mm,was modeled after their placement in the orbit.Two patients with inferior orbital wall fractures volunteered to receive single-layer and double-layer absorbable plates combined with 3D printing technology to facilitate surgical treatment of orbital wall fractures.RESULTS:The finite element models of orbital blowout fracture and absorbable plate were successfully established.Finite element analysis(FEA)showed that when the Young’s modulus of the absorbable plate decreases to 3.15 MPa,the repair material with a thickness of 0.6 mm was influenced by the gravitational forces of the orbital contents,resulting in a maximum total deformation of approximately 3.3 mm.Conversely,when the absorbable plate was 1.2 mm thick,the overall maximum total deformation was around 0.4 mm.The half-year follow-up results of the clinical cases confirmed that the absorbable plate with a thickness of 1.2 mm had smaller maximum total deformation and better clinical efficacy.CONCLUSION:The biomechanical analysis observations in this study are largely consistent with the clinical situation.The use of double-layer absorbable plates in conjunction with 3D printing technology is recommended to support surgical treatment of infraorbital wall blowout fractures.

文摘Nano-optomechanical systems,capable of supporting enhanced light-matter interactions,have wide applications in studying quantum entanglement and quantum information processors.Yet,preparing optical telecomband entanglement within a single optomechanical nanobeam remains blank.We propose and design a triply resonant optomechanical nanobeam to generate steady-state entangled propagating optical modes and present its quantum-enhanced performance for teleportation-based quantum state transfer under realistic conditions.Remarkably,the entanglement quantified by logarithmic negativity can obtain E_(N)=1.Furthermore,with structural imperfections induced by realistic fabrication processes considered,the device still shows great robustness.Together with quantum interfaces between mechanical motion and solid-state qubit processors,the proposed device potentially paves the way for versatile nodes in long-distance quantum networks.

文摘Balancing electron transfer and intermediate adsorption ability of bifunctional catalysts via tailoring electronic structures is crucial for green hydrogen production,while it still remains challenging due to lacking efficient strategies.Herein,one efficient and universal strategy is developed to greatly regulate electronic structures of the metallic Ni-Fe-P catalysts via in-situ introducing the rare earth(RE)atoms(Ni-Fe-RE-P,RE=La,Ce,Pr,and Nd).Accordingly,the as-prepared optimal Ni-Fe-Ce-P/CC self-supported bifunctional electrodes exhibited superior electrocatalytic activity and excellent stability with the low overpotentials of 247 and 331 mV at 100 mA cm^(-2) for HER and OER,respectively.In the assembled electrolyzer,the Ni-Fe-Ce-P/CC as bifunctional electrodes displayed low operation potential of 1.49 V to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm^(-2),and the catalytic performance can be maintained for 100 h.Experimental results combined with density functional theory(DFT)calculation reveal that Ce doping leads to electron decentralization and crystal structure distortion,which can tailor the band structures and d-band center of Ni-Fe-P,further increasing conductivity and optimizing intermediate adsorption energy.Our work not only proposes a valuable strategy to regulate the electron transfer and intermediate adsorption of electrocatalysts via RE atoms doping,but also provides a deep under-standing of regulation mechanism of metallic electrocatalysts for enhanced water splitting.

文摘Glaucoma is a kind of optic neuropathy mainly manifested in the permanent death of retinal ganglion cells(RGCs),atrophy of the optic nerve,and loss of visual ability.The main risk factors for glaucoma consist of the pathological elevation of intraocular pressure(IOP)and aging.Although the mechanism of glaucoma remains an open question,a theory related to mitochondrial dysfunction has been emerging in the last decade.Reactive oxygen species(ROS)from the mitochondrial respiratory chain are abnormally produced as a result of mitochondrial dysfunction.Oxidative stress takes place when the cellular antioxidant system fails to remove excessive ROS promptly.Meanwhile,more and more studies show that there are other common features of mitochondrial dysfunction in glaucoma,including damage of mitochondrial DNA(mt DNA),defective mitochondrial quality control,ATP reduction,and other cellular changes,which are worth summarizing and further exploring.The purpose of this review is to explore mitochondrial dysfunction in the mechanism of glaucomatous optic neuropathy.Based on the mechanism,the existing therapeutic options are summarized,including medications,gene therapy,and red-light therapy,which are promising to provide feasible neuroprotective ideas for the treatment of glaucoma.

文摘AIM:To characterize the ophthalmic clinical phenotype of a family with retinitis pigmentosa(RP)and closed-angle glaucoma and to detect pathogenic genes and mutation sites causing RP in this family.METHODS:Ophthalmic clinic performance was examined in detail in 8 enrolled family members.Genomic DNA was extracted from the peripheral blood of 4 family members for whole-exome sequencing(WES)to select potential genetic mutations whose structures were identified by bioinformatics analysis.Then,Sanger sequencing was used in 12 family members and control group members to validate and confirm the disease-causing mutation loci,and we analyzed the genotype-phenotype relationships.RESULTS:The known c.512C>T(p.P171L)mutation in the rhodopsin(RHO)gene was only found in afflicted family members and was confirmed by WES and Sanger sequencing as the pathogenic mutation in this family.In addition to being diagnosed with RP,family member III:4 was found to have bilateral closed-angle glaucoma,high myopia,and concurrent cataracts,and family members II:2 and II:4 had pathological changes of anterior chamber angle narrowing.Family members IV:3 and IV:4 were found to have retinoschisis.CONCLUSION:Glaucoma and related pathological changes,such as retinoschisis,in family members are preliminarily considered RP complications caused by RHO mutation.

文摘AIM:To evaluate the lateral geniculate nucleus(LGN)volume and height using magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)in glaucoma patients.METHODS:Literatures retrieval was carried out through Pub Med,Web of Science,Embase,and Cochrane Library.Studies that compared the volume and height of LGN in glaucoma patients with that in control subjects were included.The volume and height of LGN were extracted from the included studies.The Review Manager 5.4.1 software was used for the Meta-analysis.RESULTS:This Meta-analysis included 10 crosssectional studies,including the eyes of 223 glaucoma patients and 185 healthy controls.Compared with the control subjects,the volume and height of LGN in glaucoma patients measured by MRI were significantly reduced{-29.13 mm3,95%[confidence interval(CI):-44.82 to-13.43,P=0.0003;-0.61 mm,95%CI:-0.78 to-0.44,P<0.00001,respectively]}.Subgroup analysis demonstrated that the differences of LGN volume and height between glaucoma patients and control subjects in the older group were smaller than that in the younger group,and LGN volume decreased with the increase of glaucoma severity.CONCLUSION:The results demonstrate that the volume and height of LGN are decreased in glaucoma patients,and LGN volume can be considered a parameter of glaucoma severity.

文摘Necroptosis is a non-apoptotic programmed cell death pathway,which causes necrosislike morphologic changes and triggers inflammation in the surrounding tissues.Accumulating evidence has demonstrated that necroptosis is involved in a number of pathological processes that lead to cardiovascular diseases.However,the exact molecular pathways linking them remain unknown.Herein,this review summarizes the necroptosis-related pathways involved in the development of various cardiovascular diseases,including atherosclerosis,cardiac ischemia-reperfusion injury,cardiac hypertrophy,dilated cardiomyopathy and myocardial infarction,and may shed light on the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.

文摘Litter decomposition is the fundamental process in nutrient cycling and soil carbon(C) sequestration in terrestrial ecosystems. The global-wide increase in nitrogen(N) inputs is expected to alter litter decomposition and,ultimately, affect ecosystem C storage and nutrient status. Temperate grassland ecosystems in China are usually N-deficient and particularly sensitive to the changes in exogenous N additions. In this paper, we conducted a 1,200-day in situ experiment in a typical semi-arid temperate steppe in Inner Mongolia to investigate the litter decomposition as well as the dynamics of litter C and N concentrations under three N addition levels(low N with 50 kg N/(hm2?a)(LN), medium N with 100 kg N/(hm2?a)(MN), and high N with 200 kg N/(hm2?a)(HN)) and three N addition forms(ammonium-N-based with 100 kg N/(hm2?a) as ammonium sulfate(AS), nitrate-N-based with 100 kg N/(hm2?a) as sodium nitrate(SN), and mixed-N-based with 100 kg N/(hm2?a) as calcium ammonium nitrate(CAN)) compared to control with no N addition(CK). The results indicated that the litter mass remaining in all N treatments exhibited a similar decomposition pattern: fast decomposition within the initial 120 days, followed by a relatively slow decomposition in the remaining observation period(120–1,200 days). The decomposition pattern in each treatment was fitted well in two split-phase models, namely, a single exponential decay model in phase I(〈398 days) and a linear decay function in phase II(≥398 days). The three N addition levels exerted insignificant effects on litter decomposition in the early stages(〈398 days, phase I; P〉0.05). However, MN and HN treatments inhibited litter mass loss after 398 and 746 days, respectively(P〈0.05). AS and SN treatments exerted similar effects on litter mass remaining during the entire decomposition period(P〉0.05). The effects of these two N addition forms differed greatly from those of CAN after 746 and 1,053 days, respectively(P〈0.05). During the decomposition period, N concentrations in the decomposing litter increased whereas C concentrations decreased, which also led to an exponential decrease in litter C:N ratios in all treatments. No significant effects were induced by N addition levels and forms on litter C and N concentrations(P〉0.05). Our results indicated that exogenous N additions could exhibit neutral or inhibitory effects on litter decomposition, and the inhibitory effects of N additions on litter decomposition in the final decay stages are not caused by the changes in the chemical qualities of the litter, such as endogenous N and C concentrations. These results will provide an important data basis for the simulation and prediction of C cycle processes in future N-deposition scenarios.

文摘AIM:To investigate the efficacy and safety of Honghua preserved amniotic membrane(AM)for preventing scar formation of the filtering bleb in a rabbit model of glaucoma trabeculectomy surgery.METHODS:Totally 36 rabbits(36 eyes)were randomly divided into 3 groups:the experimental group(ocular trabeculectomy in combination with Honghua preserved AM transplantation),the control group(ocular trabeculectomy surgery in combination with AM implantation),and the blank group(single trabeculectomy).Clinical observations[including intraocular pressure(IOP),filtering blebs and complications],MassonTrichrome staining,real-time quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(real-time PCR),Western blot were performed on different time points(D1,D7,D14,D21 and D56)after the surgery.RESULTS:After operated for 14d,there were statistically significant differences in the filtering blebs compared to the situation before operation(P【0.05),whereas no statistically difference on that among three groups(P】0.05).After 21d,the IOP of experimental group was lowest(P【0.05).There was significant difference between control group and blank group(P【0.05).On postoperative D14,the mean number of fibroblasts in the experimental group was significantlylower(40.6±10.2)compared to those in the control group(54.4±10.8)and blank group(68.2±11.6)(P【0.05,respectively).The mean numbers of the macrophage in the experimental and control groups were respcitively significantly lower versus the blank group(P【0.05,P【0.05,respectively).Compared to that in blank group,the level of transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β1)expression in sclera and conjunctival areas was reduced in the experimental and control groups on protein and mRNA level(P【0.05),but not significant difference between these two groups(P】0.05).CONCLUSION:The trabeculectory surgery with Honghua preserved AM can control IOP,sustain the functional filtration bleb,inhibit the proliferation of fibroblasts and open the filtrating pathway on the rabbit glaucoma models.

文摘AIM: To investigate the effect of repair materials for orbital blowout fractures on the occurrence of postoperative complications. METHODS: The clinical data and follow-up data of 54 subjects with orbital blowout fractures were retrospectively analyzed. The study was divided into three groups according to the used repair materials: titanium mesh(16 cases), Medpor(12 cases), and Medpor titanium mesh(26 cases). All test data were analyzed using the SPSS version 23.0 statistical software. The mean age and duration of disease between the groups were compared through oneway analysis of variance. The Chi-square(χ~2) test was used to compare the number of males and females, different fracture types, and different surgical approaches among groups. The χ~2 test was used to compare the frequencies for complications in each group.RESULTS: The baseline characteristics of age and gender in each group were matched(F=1.763, P=0.172;χ~2=0.026, P=0.987). In addition, there was no difference in the type of fracture and surgical approach(χ~2=0.460, P=0.977;χ~2=0.691, P=0.952), or the incidence of complications(χ~2=0.081, P=0.960) between the three groups. CONCLUSION: Although there is no difference in effect of various repair materials on the incidence of complications, the effect of repair materials on postoperative complications of orbital blowout fractures should not be ignored.
文摘AIM:To investigate the effects of luteolin on apoptosis,the cell cycle,and the expression and secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)in human choroidal melanoma cells(C918 and OCM-1).METHODS:C918 and OCM-1 cells cultured in vitro were treated with various concentrations of luteolin(0,5,10,15μmol/L).Cell growth was observed with an inverted microscope,and cell cycle arrest was detected by propidium iodide(PI)staining using flow cytometry.Apoptosis was detected by Hoechst33342 staining,and apoptosis rate was determined by Annexin V-FITC/PI experiments using flow cytometry.The expression of apoptosis-related proteins Bcl-2,Bax and VEGF was analyzed using Western blots.The levels of VEGF secreted by the cells into the supernatant was analyzed using ELISA.RESULTS:After treating with 5 to 15μmol/L luteolin for 48 h,the fusion degree of C918 and OCM-1 cells decreased,and more floating apoptotic cells appeared.Luteolin treatment increased the G0-G1 phase ratio of the C918 and OCM-1 cells,blocked cell cycle progression,and increased the apoptosis rate of the C918 and OCM-1 cells.Western blot showed that luteolin decreased the expression of Bcl-2 and VEGF in the C918 and OCM-1 cells and increased the expression of Bax protein.The ELISA results showed that 10 to 15μmol/L luteolin decreased the cell secretion of VEGF.CONCLUSION:Luteolin may induce apoptosis by regulating the levels of apoptosis-related proteins in C918 and OCM-1 cells.Luteolin can induce cell cycle arrest,decrease the expression of VEGF.

文摘AIM:To investigate the acetylcholinesterase(AChE)expression involved in retina pigment epithelial(RPE)apoptosis induced by higher concentrations H2O2.METHODS:The human retinal pigment epithelium cell line ARPE-19 was from ATCC(Rockville,MD).Cultured ARPE-19 cells were treated with H2O2 at 0,250,500,1000,2 000μmol/L and cell viability was measured with MTT assay.AChE expression and DNA fragments were analyzed by immunocytochemistry,TUNEL and PARP-1Western blotting.RESULTS:Immunofluorescence detected AChE exist in the normal human retinal tissue.When H2O2】500μmol/L,AChE expression showed an increase after 2h,and this concentration was selected for the present study.RPE cell was induced with 1 000μmoI/L H2O2 for 2h,compared to the control group,cell activity decline detected by MTT,AChE and PARP-1 protein expression was significantly increased detected by Western blotting.AChE immunofluorescence staining was positive in RPE cell after HO2 incubate 2h.In addition,pretreatment with100|jmol/L epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG),cell viability increased from 31.20%±3.90%to 70.23%±12.96%.CONCLUSION:AChE is weakly expressed in normal human RPE cells.Stimulation with H2O2 caused the stable increase of AChE expression in RPE cells,which may indicate that AChE may be an important role in AMD.

文摘Feeding growth test of Xenocypris davidi Bleeker was carried out in outdoor ponds for 8 weeks.Three experimental group feeds were made by adding bee pollen to the basic feed at the dosage of 1%,2%and 3%,with fish meal,soybean meal,cotton meal and vegetable meal as protein source,and soybean oil as fat source for basic feed.The results showed that the sexual maturation rates of the parent fish in the bee pollen group with the addition of 2%and 3%were signi ficantly higher than that in the control group and the bee pollen group with the addition of 1%(P<0.05).From the perspective of egg quality,egg diameter,fertilization rate,hatching rate and the length of membrane larvae in the control group were significantly lower than that in the bee pollen group(P<0.05).From the perspective of sperm quality,the addition of high proportion of bee pollen in the diet of parental fish can significantly improve the reproductive performance of male parental fish(P<0.05).Compared with the control group,the addition of 2%bee pollen increased sperm density by 45.3%,sperm motility by 12.7%and the rate of sperm malformation by 21.0%.All things considered,the best amount of yellowtail was 2%bee pollen.

文摘Assessing the impact of plantation on microbial respiration (MR) is vitally important to understand the interactions between belowground metabolism and land use change. In this study, cumulative MR was determined by alkali absorption method in 1, 3, 7, 14, 21,28, 35, 42, 49, and 56 days from the soil in a representative plantations in the subtropical region of China. The treatment of plantations contained no plant (CK), orange trees (Citrus reticulata)+Bahia grass (Paspalum notatum) (GB), orange trees (C. reticulata)+Bahia grass (P. notatum)+soybean (Giycine max (L.) Merrill) (GBH). Results showed that plantation had significant effects on microbial respiration and the responses of microbial respiration to plantation from different soil layers and topographies were different: in 0-20 cm in uphill: GB〉GBH〉CK; in 20-40 cm in uphill: GBH〉CK〉GB; in 0-20 cm in downhill: GBH〉CK〉GB; in 20-40 cm in downhill: GB〉CK〉GBH. Furthermore, plantation also altered the relationships between MR and soil properties. In CK, microbial respiration was positively correlated with NH4+ and soil total N, and negatively correlated with soil moisture, pH, NO3-, and microbial biomass carbon (MBC). In GB, microbial respira- tion under GB significantly negatively correlated with dissolved organic carbon (DOC). In GBH, microbial respiration under GBH was positively correlated with NH4+, MBC, total soil carbon (TC), and total soil nitrogen (TN), and negatively correlated with soil moisture (SM), pH, NO-, and DOC. The underlying mechanisms could be attributed to soil heterogeneity and the effects of plantation on soil properties. Our results also showed that plantation significantly increased soil C storage, which suggested plantation is a key measure to enhance soil C sequestration and mitigate global CO2 emission, especially for the soil with low initial soil carbon content or bared soil.

文摘The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of inhibition of calpain on retinal ganglion cell-5(RGC-5) necroptosis following oxygen glucose deprivation(OGD). RGC-5 cells were cultured in Dulbecco's-modified essential medium and necroptosis was induced by 8-h OGD. PI staining and flow cytometry were performed to detect RGC-5 necrosis. The calpain expression was detected by Western blotting and immunofluorescence staining. The calpain activity was tested by activity detection kit. Flow cytometry was used to detect the effect of calpain on RGC-5 necroptosis following OGD with or without N-acetyl-leucyl-leucyl-norleucinal(ALLN) pre-treatment. Western blot was used to detect the protein level of truncated apoptosis inducing factor(t AIF) in RGC-5 cells following OGD. The results showed that there was an up-regulation of the calpain expression and activity following OGD. Upon adding ALLN, the calpain activity was inhibited and t AIF was reduced following OGD along with the decreased number of RGC-5 necroptosis. In conclusion, calpain was involved in OGD-induced RGC-5 necroptosis with the increased expression of its downstream molecule t AIF.

文摘AIM: To determine the effect of different concentrations of the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors tacrine and donepezil on retinal protection in AChE(+/-) mice (AChE knockout mice) of various ages. METHODS: Cultured ARPE -19 cells were treated with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) at concentrations of 0, 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 mu mol/L and protein levels were measured using Western blot. Intraperitoneal injections of tacrine and donepezil (0.1 mg/mL, 0.2 mg/mL and 0.4 mg/mL) were respectively given to AChE4- mice aged 2mo and 4mo and wild-type S129 mice for 7d; phosphate buffered saline (PBS) was administered to the control group. The mice were sacrificed after 30d by cardiac perfusion and retinal samples were taken. AChE(+/-) deficient mice were identified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis using specific genotyping protocols obtained from the Jackson Laboratory website. H&E staining, immunofluorescence and Western blot were performed to observe AChE protein expression changes in the retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cell layer. RESULTS: Different concentrations of H2O2 induced AChE expression during RPE cell apoptosis. AChE(+/-) mice retina were thinner than those in wild -type mice (P< 0.05); the retinal structure was still intact at 2mo but became thinner with increasing age(P <0.05); furthermore, AChE'l- mice developed more slowly than wild-type mice (P <0.05). Increased concentrations of tacrine and donepezil did not significantly improve the protection of the retina function and morphology (P >0.05). CONCLUSION: in viva, tacrine and donepezil can inhibit the expression of AChE; the decrease of AChE expression in the retina is beneficial for the development of the retina.

文摘Experimental studies have shown that AEW( Acidic Electrolyzed Water) plays a strong role in killing grape virus,and it has instantaneous,broad-spectrum,efficient,safe and non-residual fungicidal properties. The results show that spraying AEW,and spraying alkaline electrolyzed water first and then AEW,can play a good role in controlling the virus damage of grape downy mildew,Botrytis cinerea,anthracnose,grape Alternaria spot,and anthrachose of grape,with foliar control effect of 93. 5%,96. 2%,93. 20%,100% and 87. 9%,respectively,and ear control effect of 88%,92%,84%,84% and 72%,respectively. AEW can replace pesticide,and can promote the average grape weight and sugar degree.
