The macular thickness was measured by Cirrus OCT and Stratus OCT. The correlation between macular thickness and axial length and the agreement between two OCT measurements were evaluated. A formula was generated to interchange macular thickness obtained with two OCT devices.·RESULTS: Average macular thickness measured with Stratus OCT(r =-0.280, P =0.008) and Cirrus OCT(r =-0.224,P =0.034) were found to be negatively correlated with axial length. No statistically significant correlation was found between axial length and central subfield macular thickness(CMT) measured with Stratus OCT(r =0.191,P =0.073) and Cirrus OCT(r =0.169, P =0.113). The mean CMT measured with Cirrus OCT was 53.63 ±7.94 μm thicker than with Stratus OCT. The formula CMTCirrus OCT=78.328 +0.874 ×CMTStratus OCTwas generated to interchange macular thickness obtained with two OCT devices.· CONCLUSION: Macular thickness measured with Cirrus OCT were thicker than with Stratus OCT in myopic eyes. A formula can be used to interchange macular thickness measured with two OCT devices in myopic eyes. Studies with different OCT devices and larger samples are warranted to enable the comparison of macular values measured with different OCT devices.展开更多

All the patients underwent phacoemulsification with monofocal foldable intraocular lens(IOLs) implanted through a 2.8-mm superior corneal incision. The anterior corneal wavefront aberrations for the 6.0-mm pupillary diameter was measured by i Trace wavefront aberrometer(Tracey Technologies, Inc.) preoperatively and 1 month postoperatively. Changes of root mean square(RMS) values of Z(3,-3), Z(3, 3), Z(3,-1), Z(3, 1), and Z(4, 0) and total high order aberration(HOA) were evaluated. Results: The uncorrected and corrected visual acuities improve significantly(P<0.001). No significant postoperative changes were observed in spherical aberration(P=0.652). Significant changes in vertical coma and vertical trefoil(0.005±0.214 vs.-0.049±0.242, P=0.037;-0.141±0.222 vs.-0.258±0.359, P=0.001; separately). However, the total HOAs increased after cataract surgery(0.567±0.161 vs. 0.688±0.343, P<0.001).Conclusions: Corneal vertical coma and vertical trefoil changes significantly in 2.8mm superior corneal incision phacoemulsification cataract surgery. In addition, those had a trend to negative direction.展开更多

Ocular biometry measurements were performed using both biometers before surgery. Uneventful cataract surgery was performed in all patients. Postoperative manifest refraction was obtained 3 wk after surgery or later. A total of 67 eyes were examined. The AL, keratometry(K), and anterior chamber depth(ACD) of the two biometers showed excellent agreement. Predicted errors were similar and a strong positive correlation was observed(r=0.909). Out of 21 eyes(31.34%) with unsuccessful AL readings using the IOL Master 500, 20 eyes of them could be measured using OA-2000. Therefore, the biometric parameters measured by the two biometers showed good agreement. However, OA-2000 had a lower AL measurement failure rate.展开更多

Orbital fibroblasts play a key role in altering inflammation and immune response in TAO, and are considered as the key target and effector cells in its pathogenesis. The orbit infiltrating CD34+ fibrocytes add on to the process by expressing high levels of autoantigens and inflammatory cytokines, while also differentiating into myofibroblasts or adipocytes. This review focuses on the role of orbital fibroblasts and CD34+ fibrocytes in the pathogenesis of TAO, highlighting the basis of emerging treatments.展开更多

Hypertensive eyes of 30 conscious rats were randomly chosen to measure IOP on a single occasion. Two observers independently and alternately undertook IOP measurements consecutively for three times using the same Tonolab tonometer blind to the other observer's IOP measurements. The within subject standard deviation(Sw), coefficient of variation(CVw)(100 ×Sw/overall mean), and intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC) were calculated to evaluate intra-observer repeatability. Inter-observer difference was analysed by using 95% limits of agreement described by Bland-Altman and paired sample t- test. Also, another13 normal F344 rats were intraperitoneally administrated with ketamine/xylazine or chloral hydrate, and IOPs of both eyes were measured by a single operator once every 5min until animals came to conscious. IOPs at various time points were compared by using one-way ANOVAs.RESULTS: Mean IOP was 35.58 mm Hg(range 17.33 to65.33 mm Hg). For intraobserver repeatability, the Sw,CVw and ICC of high IOP for two observers were 5.20 mm Hg/3.41 mm Hg, 9.98% /8.08% and 0.820/0.928 respectively. The inter-observer difference was 14.76% ±19.76% of the mean IOP of two observers, with a 95% limits of agreement-23.97% to 53.50%, and the difference between mean IOP of these two observers was statistically significant(P =0.001). IOPs dropped slightly during the first 15 min post-aneathesia, with a IOP change between0.17 and 1.17 mm Hg. IOPs changed from basline of11.75 ±2.05 mm Hg(n =12) to 8.75 ±1.06 mm Hg 20 min post-anesthesia(P =0.001), and this hypotensivecondition persisted until 80 min post-anesthesia. CONCLUSION: In this sample of hypertensive rats,Tonolab measurements demonstrated high levels of intraobserver repeatability, however, its interobserver reproducibility was poor. Longitudinal changes of IOP caused by genral anaesthesia can be sensitively detected by Tonolab. So we suggested that measurements of IOP using Tonolab are best measured by a single observer, and it could be included in experimental glaucoma.展开更多

文摘Both inflammation and anti-inflammation are involved in the protection of retinal cells.Antagonists of the hypothalamic growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor(GHRHR)have been shown to possess potent anti-inflammatory properties in experimental disease models of various organs, some with systemic complications.Such effects are also found in ocular inflammatory and neurologic injury studies. In experimental models of mice and rats, both growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor agonists and antagonists may alleviate death of ocular neural cells under certain experimental conditions. This review explores the properties of growth hormone-releasing hormone receptor agonists and antagonists that lead to its protection against inflammatory responses induced by extrinsic agents or neurologic injures in ocular animal models.

文摘Inflammation is a critical pathophysiological process that modulates neuronal survival in the central nervous system after disease or injury. However, the effects and mechanisms of macrophage activation on neuronal survival remain unclear. In the present study,we co-cultured adult Fischer rat retinas with primary peritoneal macrophages or zymosan-treated peritoneal macrophages for 7 days.Immunofluorescence analysis revealed that peritoneal macrophages reduced retinal ganglion cell survival and neurite outgrowth in the retinal explant compared with the control group. The addition of zymosan to peritoneal macrophages attenuated the survival and neurite outgrowth of retinal ganglion cells.Conditioned media from peritoneal macrophages also reduced retinal ganglion cell survival and neurite outgrowth. This result suggests that secretions from peritoneal macrophages mediate the inhibitory effects of these macrophages. In addition, increased inflammationand oxidation-related gene expression may be related to the enhanced retinal ganglion cell degeneration caused by zymosan activation. In summary, this study revealed that primary rat peritoneal macrophages attenuated retinal ganglion cell survival and neurite outgrowth, and that macrophage activation further aggravated retinal ganglion cell degeneration. This study was approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of the Joint Shantou International Eye Center of Shantou University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong,Shantou,Guangdong Province,China,on March 11,2014(approval no.EC20140311(2)-P01).
文摘Dear Editor,We are writing to present an uncommon case of a45-year-old woman with bilateral proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and ocular albinism (OA).Albinism is a group of inherited disorders of tyrosinase activities and melanin biosynthesis resulting in little or no production of the pigment melanin。
文摘Dear Editor,We are writing to present a rare episcleral osseous choristomas in a 12-year-old girl.Choristomas are congenital benign mass composed of normal tissue located in an abnormal site[1].Ocular choristomas can be categorized as limbaldermoid, lipodermoid.
文摘Dear Editor,We are writing to present a bilateral uveal coloboma concurrent with retinal detachment(RD)in a 16-year-old girl.Colobomas are rare, congenital and potentially blinding malformations caused by incomplete closure of embryonic optic fissure[1].

文摘Background:To report a new simplified surgical technique to manage small iris coloboma or traumatic iris defect. Methods:A new surgical technique in which simplified pupilloplasty technique through only a clear corneal paracentesis to manage the iris coloboma or traumatic iris defect within the 120°range was designed.A retrospective revision of the medical records of patients treated with this technique between the years 2013 and 2016 was made.Six eyes of six patients with iris coloboma or traumatic iris defect treated with this new technique were included. Results:All the operated eyes quickly recovered with central round pupil, negligible complications, inessential symptoms of photophobia and glare, and mild inflammation after a median follow-up time of 22 months(range:6-34 months). Conclusions:The simplified pupilloplasty technique presented here could be a good alternative for the management of small iris coloboma or traumatic iris defect.
