This paper addresses the efficiency of two feature extraction methods for classifying small metal objects including screws,nuts,keys,and coins:the histogram of oriented gradients(HOG)and local binary pattern(LBP).The desired features for the labeled images are first extracted and saved in the form of a feature matrix.Using three different classification methods(non-parametric K-nearest neighbors algorithm,support vector machine,and naïve Bayesian method),the images are classified into four different classes.Then,by examining the resulting confusion matrix,the performances of the HOG and LBP approaches are compared for these four classes.The effectiveness of these two methods is also compared with the“You Only Look Once”and faster region-based convolutional neural network approaches,which are based on deep learning.The collected image set in this paper includes 800 labeled training images and 180 test images.The results show that the use of the HOG is more efficient than the use of the LBP.Moreover,a combination of the HOG and LBP provides better results than either alone. 展开更多

The adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems(ANFIS)are widely used in the concrete technology.In this research,the compressive strength of light weight concrete was determined.To this end,the scoria percentage and curing day variables were used as the input parameters,and compressive strength and tensile strength were used as the output parameters.In addition,100 patterns were used,70%of which were used for training and 30%were used for testing.To assess the precision of the neuro-fuzzy system,it was compared using two linear regression models.The comparisons were carried out in the training and testing phases.Research results revealed that the neuro-fuzzy systems model offers more potential,flexibility,and precision than the statistical models. 展开更多

Progressive collapse is a relatively rare event which happens due to unusual loading on a structure that lacks adequate continuity,ductility and indeterminacy which causes local collapse in that structure and then extends it to other structural parts.The US department of defense published UFC4-023-03 regulation regarding the building design against progressive collapse.This regulation,based on the ASCE 7-05 standard,introduces two general approaches to building design against progressive collapse,including direct design and indirect design approaches.In this study,a variety of structural design methods for progressive collapse have been investigated.Moreover,their strengths and weaknesses have been mentioned.In general,the results of this study show that design based on alternative path(AP)method is more economical than other methods.Moreover,application of AP method is much more commonly accepted by researchers and designers. 展开更多
