This study is motivated by 800 kW continuous wave(CW), 650 MHz klystrons for the future plan of circular electron–positron collider(CEPC) project. The RF window which is used in the klystron output section has a function to separate the klystron from the inner vacuum side to the outside, and high RF power propagates through the window with small power dissipation. Therefore, the window is a key component for the high power klystron. However, it is vulnerable to the high thermal stress and multipacting, so this paper presents the window design and analysis for these problems. The microwave design has been performed by using the computer simulation technology(CST) microwave studio and the return loss of the window has been established to be less than-90 d B. The multipacting simulation of the window has been carried out using MultiPac and CST particles studio. Through the multipacting analysis, it is shown that with thin coating of TiN, the multipacting effect has been suppressed effectively on the ceramic surface. The thermal analysis is carried out using ANSYS code and the temperature of alumina ceramic is lower than 310 K with water cooling. The design result successfully meets the requirement of the CEPC 650 MHz klystron. The manufacturing and high power test plan are also described in this paper.展开更多

The CEPC requires 192 klystrons and it is desired to be designed in the Institute of High Energy Physics, CAS, and manufactured domestically. Therefore, we present the manufacturing schedule of this project; the three-stage development from the beam test tube to the klystron having a high efficiency structure. Design of the beam test tube that comprises electron gun and collector is presented. First, gun simulation having a modulating anode is performed using DGUN software. The uniform beam trajectories with a beam perveance of 0.64 mu A/V-3/2 are simulated. We employ a Ba-dispenser cathode of radius 35mm with phi 10 hole at the center and obtain a current density on cathode less than 0.45 A/cm(2). The beam trajectories are also simulated over beam test tube of length about 2m with a magnetic field of 213 Gauss. Thermal analysis of the collector is performed using the ANSIS-CFX code and hence the cooling structure is determined. Mechanical design is almost carried out and it is in manufacturing stage.展开更多

Both the horizontal and vertical beam sizes of the HEPS storage ring are below 10 lm. It is a challenge to measure such a small beam size in both directions. To this end, measurement by a Kirkpatrick–Baez(KB) mirror imaging system was evaluated. A test KB system for the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility storage ring was designed and tested. Two crossed cylindrical mirrors were used to image the dipole source point. Both mirrors can be moved in and out so that the monitor is interchangeable with the original X-ray pinhole monitor. The aberration and point spread function, which would cause image blur, were evaluated. A beam-based calibration scheme was used by varying the beam size with different quadrupole settings and fitting them with the corresponding theoretical values. We updated the original X-ray camera with a new camera having a 5-lm-thick LuAG/Ce scintillator, and the imaging result shows greatly decreased image blur.展开更多

For a ring-based light source, the power of the spontaneous radiation fluctuates randomly in the longitudinal direction. It is difficult to produce twocolor double pulses by optical methods. In this paper, we introduce a method based on the echo-enabled harmonic generation scheme that generates two-color pulses in a storage ring light source. By adopting crossed undulators and a phase shifter, the polarization of the two-color pulses can be easily switched. A numerical simulation based on a diffraction-limited storage ring, the Hefei Advanced Light Source, suggests that the time delay and spectral separation of the two pulses can be adjusted linearly by changing the pulse duration and chirp parameters of the seed laser. A circular polarization degree above 80% could be achieved.展开更多

文摘The high-energy photon source(HEPS)is the first fourth-generation synchrotron light source facility in China. The HEPS injector consists of a linear accelerator(Linac)and a full energy booster. The booster captures the electron beam from the Linac and increases its energy to the value required for the storage ring. The full-energy beam could be injected to the storage ring directly or after“high-energy accumulation.”On November 17,2023,the key booster parameters successfully reached their corresponding target values. These milestone results were achieved based on numerous contributions, including nearly a decade of physical design, years of equipment development and installation, and months of beam commissioning. As measured at the extraction energy of 6 GeV,the averaged beam current and emittance reached 8.57 mA with 5 bunches and 30.37 nm rad with a single-bunch charge of 5.58 nC,compared with the corresponding target values of 6.6 mA and 35 nm rad, respectively. This paper presents the physical design, equipment development, installation, and commissioning process of the HEPS booster.

文摘We present the first phase R&D for the 800 kW cw, 650MHz klystron for the future circular electron-positron collider (CEPC) project in China. Mechanical design is almost carried out and it is in manufacturing stage.
文摘We found an error in our previous report [Chin. Phys. Lett. 34 (2017) 012902] concerning about the value of voltage on the modulating anode (MA). This mistake occurs when we shifted calculating positive scale to actual negative voltage scale in the DGUN simulation. The value of voltage on the MA is VMA = -33.5 kV as displayed in Table 1. Also Figs. 2(a), 2(b) and 4(a) should be as follows. We note that the error does not affect the conclusion of our report at all, and we apologize for inconvenience of readers brought by our oversight.

文摘In order to meet the requirements of the Circular Electron Positron Collider(CEPC),a 650-MHz 2-cell superconducting cavity was proposed and designed. In this study,we show the progress in the cavity design for the CEPC.The radio frequency and mechanical designs are ready for the first design version, called CEPC-V1.A cryomodule, which consists of two 650-MHz 2-cell cavities, was scheduled the last year. Therefore, prototypes of the 2-cell cavity based on this design were fabricated and tested the following year. The vertical test results show that multipacting(MP)exists from 10 to 19 MV/m.This will increase the operational risk of the CEPC,while the continuous-wave operation for the 650-MHz cavity is 19.7 MV/m.Two trapped modes were also found, which exist because of the identical half-cell design. Therefore,a few improvements regarding MP and more efficient extraction of higher-order mode power are discussed.A new type of cavity design, called CEPC-V2,is also discussed in this paper.
文摘High-energy photon source(HEPS) is a 6 GeV ultralow emittance storage ring light source to be built in Beijing, China. We updated the original X-ray camera with a new camera having a 5-lm-thick LuAG/Ce scintillator, and the imaging result shows greatly decreased image blur.
文摘Main quadrupole magnets are critical for the Circular Electron and Positron Collider(CEPC)and are specifically designed as dual aperture quadrupole(DAQ)magnets. However, the field crosstalk between the two apertures presents challenges. As the CEPC will work at four beam energies of Z,W,Higgs and ttbar mode, the DAQ magnets will operate at four field gradients spanning from 3.18 to 12.63 T/m.The first short quadrupole magnet prototype with the bore diameter of 76 mm and magnetic length of 1.0 m revealed the problems of large magnetic field harmonics and a magnetic center shift within the beam energy range.Accordingly,a compensation method was proposed in this work to solve the field crosstalk effect.By adjusting the gap height at the middle of the two apertures, the field harmonics and magnetic center shift are significantly reduced. After optimization, the short prototype was modified using a new scheme. The field simulations are validated from the magnetic measurement results.Further, the multipole field meets the requirements of the four beam energies. The detailed magnetic field optimization, field harmonics adjustment, and measurement results are presented herein.

文摘Harmonic cavities(HCs)are widely used in electron storage rings, mainly to increase the Touschek lifetime by lengthening bunches.HCs have become critical components of almost all fourth-generation synchrotron light sources. In addition to the benefits of increasing the Touschek lifetime, they also affect the collective beam instabilities in electron storage rings. However, the influ-ence of HC settings on collective beam instabilities is still not well understood.HCs are typically designed to operate under so-called ideal lengthening conditions, which do not necessarily optimize the suppression of collective beam instabilities. We therefore extended earlier studies of col-lective beam instabilities to consider more general HC settings. We present preliminary studies and analyses of the influences of different HC settings on microwave and transverse mode-coupling instabilities.

文摘To date, two-color pulses are widely used in pump–probe experiments. A circular polarization degree above 80% could be achieved.

文摘166.6-MHz quarter-waveβ=1 superconducting cavities have been adopted for the High Energy Photon Source,a 6-GeV diffraction-limited synchrotron light source currently under construction.A large helium jacket was required to accommodate the enlarged cavity beam pipe for the heavy damping of higher-order modes;the original electric-probe pickup thus becomes inevitably long with unfavorable mechanical properties.Relocated to an existing high-pressure-rinsing port,a magnetic-loop pickup was designed, characterized by low radio-frequency and cryogenic losses and being multipacting-free and insensitive to manufacturing and assembly tolerances. The consequent removal of the original pickup port from the cavity largely simplified the helium jacket fabrication and may also reduce cavity contamination. This paper presents a comprehensive design of a low-loss magnetic-coupling pickup for quarter-waveβ=1 superconducting cavities. The design can also be applied to other non-elliptical structures.

文摘The nitrogen doping/infusion of 650 MHz cavities for the circular electron positron collider(CEPC)is investigated in this study. Two 650 MHz 1-cell cavities are first treated via buffered chemical polishing(BCP),followed by nitrogen doping.A"2/6"condition is adopted, similar to that for 1.3 GHz cavities of Linear Coherent Light Source II.The quality factor of both cavities improved to 7×10^(10)in low fields,i.e.,higher than that obtained from the baseline test. One 650 MHz two-cell cavity is nitrogen infused at 165℃for 48 h with a BCP surface base. The intrinsic quality factor(Q0)reached6×10^(10)at 22 MV/m in the vertical test, and the maximum gradient is 25 MV/m,which exceeds the specification of the CEPC(4×10^(10)at 22 MV/m).
