This project was aimed to obtain more information about the habitus and social representations of college students reading habits, using as theoretical elements the principles developed by Pierre Bourdieu and Serge Moscovici. The project was developed in a public university, located in Mexico's northeast region; 19 students were part of the sample group. Two research tools were used to obtain data: survey and focus group. The project analyzed academic and environmental aspects, beyond the "ought to be", that affected the development and provided characteristics on the daily sociocultural reality of the students, with a view of the real environment of the students without "make-up". The project deepened into the analysis of the reading practices and not only the usual numeric indicators, which traditionally condemn the reading practices in Mexico. The results of this study showed that students read a lot more than what they and their teachers think they do, this taking into consideration electronic documents, general interest publications, and commercial magazines, among others. The point of view of some teachers and researchers, when it comes to reading habits recognize non-academic, simple and interesting reading more important impact on their reading habits shows a tendency to be pedantic and canonic; it does not for young people, which in the long term, could have a展开更多

The assessment used performance indicators and indicators of compliance with the regulations. It is established that in all the cities the maximum limit value of daily concentration of 210 μg/m3 is exceeded, being the percentage of days above the rule of 30%, 78%, 76%, 6%, 3% and 62% for Agua Prieta, Nogales, Puerto Penasco, Hermosillo, Guaymas and Obregón respectively, classifying these days with poor air quality. According to the annualized index used, the air quality was not satisfactory for the period of study in the six cities. Nogales and Puerto Penasco presented the most adverse conditions of air quality with annual average values of TSP of 363 and 345 μg/m3 and maximum daily of 1047 and 1239 μg/m3 (498% and 590% above the norm) respectively. The requirements of coverage that establishes the Mexican Official Standard NOM-025-SSA1-1993 (SSA, 2005) are questioned for its compliance, proposing in this paper a criterion of non-compliance by prioritizing the protection of health and the precautionary principle. It is recommended to implement air quality management programs (PROAIRE) in these cities.展开更多

The work described the use of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) combined with X-ray Dispersive Energy Spectrometry (EDS) to characterize inorganic atmospheric particles samples collected on PM10 filters from January 2013 to October 2013 from three zones within the city of Hermosillo, Sonora. Specimens were initially processed by separating the collected particles from the filters by means of submersing a 2 cm2 section of each filter into isopropilic alcohol within a test tube for 5 minutes. Then, an aliquot of the suspension was placed over a sample holder and into the SEM. The different elements found amongst individual particles were Al, Ba, Ca, Cl, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na, Pb, S, Si, Ti and U. The predominant elements are Al (17.10 At%), Si (10.17 At%), Ba (5.90 At%), Fe (5.45 At%) and U (2.32 At%). The particles were classified into groups based on morphology and elemental composition: particles of aluminosilicate, salts of sodium chloride, sulfates, metal particles, barium and uranium. These particles morphology and chemical composition, illustrate an abundance of natural elements within the zone. However, some of the elements presented are directly related with human activities, and are of much interest from the public health and environmental perspectives.展开更多

The Planck constant, calculated with actually measured cosmological parameters, coincide with that one, measured in laboratory with precision up to the second digit. The non-local generalization of quantum theory is suggested. The fundamental sense of the Quantum Theory is discussed, and physical sense of the cosmological constant is revealed. Within the mentioned framework, the quantum theory is naturally unified with gravity.展开更多

How do colleges determine what the best college is? What are the differences in the excersise of power in the digital age? The authors analyze one of the mechanisms of relationship and contact between different universities: the rankings. They will discuss the practices that allow certain values and organizations they are becoming central nodes between universities and the influences of the information and communication technologies in the measurement mechanisms. The authors seek to show the rankings serve as mechanisms to exercise power among universities. These measurements become a tool and justification in competition between universities for resources such as funding, prestige, and student demand. The analysis is based on the University of Mexico, the authors use the ranking of the best universities in Latin America and the best universities in Mexico.展开更多
