Secondly, a study for the requirements demonstration on the next-generation GOCE Follow-On satellite gravity gradiometry system is developed using different satellite orbital altitudes and measurement accuracies of satellite gravity gradiometer by the new analytical error model of SGG. The research results show that it is preferable to design satellite orbital altitudes of 300 km-400km and choose the measurement accuracies of 10-13/s2 -10-15/s2 from satellite gravity gradiometer. Finally, the complementarity of the four-stage satellite gravity missions, including past CHAMP, current GRACE, and GOCE, and next-generation GOCE Follow-On, is contrastively demonstrated for precisely recovering the Earth's full-frequency gravitational field with high spatial resolution.展开更多

During 1958-2020, the global PWV trends obtained using the ERA5 and JRA55 data sets are 0.19 ± 0.01 mm per decade(1.15 ± 0.31%)and 0.23 ± 0.01 mm per decade(1.45 ± 0.32%), respectively. The PWV trends obtained using the ERA5,JRA55, NCEP-NCAR, and NCEP-DOE data sets are 0.22 ± 0.01 mm per decade(1.18 ± 0.54%),0.21 ± 0.00 mm per decade(1.76 ± 0.56%), 0.27 ± 0.01 mm per decade(2.20 ± 0.70%) and 0.28 ± 0.01 mm per decade(2.19 ± 0.70%) for the period 1979-2020. During 2000-2020, the PWV trends obtained using ERA5, JRA55, NCEP-DOE, and NCEP-NCAR data sets are 0.40 ± 0.25 mm per decade(2.66 ± 1.51%),0.37 ± 0.24 mm per decade(2.19 ± 1.54%), 0.40 ± 0.26 mm per decade(1.96 ± 1.53%) and 0.36 ± 0.25 mm per decade(2.47 ± 1.72%), respectively. Rising PWV has a positive impact on changes in precipitation, increasing the probability of extreme precipitation and then changing the frequency of flood disasters. Therefore, exploring the relationship between PWV(derived from ERA5 and JRA55) change and flood disaster frequency from 1958 to 2020 revealed a significant positive correlation between them, with correlation coefficients of 0.68 and 0.79, respectively, which explains the effect of climate change on the increase in flood disaster frequency to a certain extent. The study can provide a reference for assessing the evolution of flood disasters and predicting their frequency trends.展开更多

This study extracted the inter-annual oscillations of glacier mass over Central Asia from the first ten principal components(S-PCs) of filtered variability via multichannel singular spectral analysis(MSSA), based on gridded data of glacier mass inferred from Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment(GRACE) data obtained from July 2002 to March 2015. Two significant cycles of glacier mass balance oscillations were identified. The first cycle with a period of 6.1-year accounted for 54.5% of the total variance and the second with a period of 2.3-year accounted for 4.3%. The 6.1-year oscillation exhibited a stronger variability compared with the 2.3-year oscillation. For the 6.1-year oscillation, the results from lagged cross-correlation function suggested that there were significant correlations between glacier mass balances and precipitation variations with the precipitation variations leading the response of glacier mass balances by 9–16 months.展开更多

So far, gravity change caused by such a great earthquake has been reported for the 1964 Alaska and the 2010 Maule events. However, the spatial-temporal resolution of the gravity data for these cases is insufficient to depict a co-seismic gravity field variation in a spatial scale of a plate subduction zone. Here, we report an unequivocal co-seismic gravity change over the Japanese Island, obtained from a hybrid gravity observation(combined absolute and relative gravity measurements). The time interval of the observation before and after the earthquake is within 1 year at almost all the observed sites, including 13 absolute and 16 relative measurement sites, which deduced tectonic and environmental contributions to the gravity change. The observed gravity agrees well with the result calculated by a dislocation theory based on a self-gravitating and layered spherical earth model. In this computation, a co-seismic slip distribution is determined by an inversion of Global Positioning System(GPS) data. Of particular interest is that the observed gravity change in some area is negative where a remarkable subsidence is observed by GPS, which can not be explained by simple vertical movement of the crust. This indicated that the mass redistribution in the underground affects the gravity change. This result supports the result that Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment(GRACE) satellites detected a crustal dilatation due to the 2004 Sumatra earthquake by the terrestrial observation with a higher spatial and temporal resolution.展开更多

Due to the relatively low fitness level of near-field vertical displacements, the precision of previous rupture models is relatively low, and the seismic hazard evaluated thereafter should be further updated. In this study, we applied three-component displacement records from GPS stations in and around the source region of the 2013 MW6.6 Lushan earthquake to re-investigate the rupture model. To improve the resolution of the rupture model, records from both continuous and campaign GPS stations were gathered, and secular deformations of the GPS movements were removed from the records of the campaign stations to ensure their reliability. The rupture model was derived by the steepest descent method(SDM), which is based on a layered velocity structure. The peak slip value was about 0.75 m, with a seismic moment release of 9.89 × 10^(18) N·m, which was equivalent to an M_W6.6 event. The inferred fault geometry coincided well with the aftershock distribution of the Lushan earthquake. Unlike previous rupture models, a secondary slip asperity existed at a shallow depth and even touched the ground surface. Based on the distribution of the co-seismic ruptures of the Lushan and Wenchuan earthquakes, post-seismic relaxation of the Wenchuan earthquake, and tectonic loading process, we proposed that the seismic hazard is quite high and still needs special attention in the seismic gap between the two earthquakes.展开更多

Modeling of surface radial displacements and gravity variation is performed using both TC1 P and the global Preliminary Reference Earth Model(PREM). Furthermore, inversions of the hydrology signals based on simulated Global Positioning System(GPS) and GRACE data are performed using PREM. Results show that crust in TC1 P is harder and softer than that in PREM above and below a depth of 15 km, respectively, causing larger differences in the computed load Love numbers and loading Green's functions. When annual hydrology signals are assumed, the differences of the radial displacements are found to be as large as approximately0.6 mm for the truncated degree of 180; while for hydrology-trend signals the differences are very small. When annual hydrology signals and the trends are assumed, the differences in the surface gravity variation are very small. It is considered that TC1 P can be used to efficiently remove the hydrological effects on the monitoring of crustal movement. It was also found that when PREM is used inappropriately, the inversion of the hydrology signals from simulated annual GPS signals can only recover approximately 88.0% of the annual hydrology signals for the truncated degree of 180, and the inversion of hydrology signals from the simulated trend GPS signals can recover approximately 92.5% for the truncated degree of 90. However, when using the simulated GRACE data, it is possible to recover almost 100%. Therefore, in future, the TC1 P model can be used in the inversions ofhydrology signals based on GPS network data. PREM is also valid for use with inversions of hydrology signals from GRACE data at resolutions of approximately 220 km and larger.展开更多

This tomographic method can accommodate velocity discontinuities such as the Moho in addition to smooth velocity variations. The spatial resolution is 1 ×1 in the horizontal direction and 10 km in depth. The velocity images of the upper crust correspond well with the surface geology. Beneath the southern Caucasus high velocity anomalies are found in the middle crust and low velocity anomalies are found in the uppermost mantle. Relatively low Pn velocities are located under the Lesser Caucasus, eastern Turkey, and northern Iran. Higher Pn velocities occur under the eastern portion of the Black Sea and the southern Caspian Sea, and also extend into the eastern edge of Azerbaijan. Tomographic model significantly reduces the travel-time residuals.展开更多

We first select 2 600 locations in the study region with 1 intervals, then at each location invert for a five-layer 1-D P-wave velocity model from the surface down to the uppermost mantle by performing a Monte Carlo random search. The Moho depth at each location is then determined, and the Moho interface beneath the study region is obtained through proper interpolation with certain smoothing. Compared to depths obtained by previous studies, our results show more accurate Moho depths in the Tibetan plateau, Tianshan region and other areas of the study region.展开更多

Results show that:( 1) For M7. 0 and M6. 0earthquakes,med-term abnormities are the greatest in number,short-term abnormities come second, and imminent anomalies are the least. For M5. 0 earthquakes,short-term abnormities are often the most in number, imminent anomalies come second, and the med-term ones are the least.( 2) Precursory anomalies are periodical, part of the med and short-term anomalies are shown as short-term and imminent anomalies during their development.( 3) The development of precursor shows quasi-synchronism; the closer to earthquake occurrence time, the more turning changes of anomalies will appear.( 4)Anomalies mainly occur within an epicenter distance of 100 km, showing a relative concentrated distribution in space, and the shorter the distance to epicenter, the higher the anomaly station / item rate.( 5) The spatial distribution of anomalies is relatively correlated to the strike of structures, having a good consistency with the structure.( 6)There is no significant correlation between duration of abnormities and the epicenter distance.( 7) The higher the magnitude of the earthquake, the greater the amplitude of the abnormities measured with the same observation approach.( 8) In terms of the itemsof the observations, fluid abnormities are the greatest in number, followed by deformation and electromagnetism observations.( 9) For all observation items, med and short-term abnormities make up the majority and short-term and imminent anomalies the minority.( 10) In fluid, deformation and electromagnetism observations, fairly reliable anomalies are about double the number of reliable anomalies.展开更多

文摘The Earth’s Free Core Nutation(FCN) causes Earth tides and forced nutation with frequencies close to the FCN that exhibit resonance effects.High-precision superconducting gravimeter(SG) and very long baseline interferometry(VLBI) provide good observation techniques for detecting the FCN parameters. However, some choices in data processing and solution procedures increase the uncertainty of the FCN parameters. In this study,we analyzed the differences and the effectiveness of weight function and ocean tide corrections in the FCN parameter detection using synthetic data,SG data from thirty-one stations, and the 10 celestial pole offset(CPO) series. The results show that significant discrepancies are caused by different computing options for a single SG station. The stacking method, which results in a variation of0.24-5 sidereal days(SDs) in the FCN period(T) and 10^(3)-10^(4) in the quality factor(Q) due to the selection of the weighting function and the ocean tide model(OTM),can effectively suppress this influence. The statistical analysis results of synthetic data shows that although different weight choices, while adjusting the proportion of diurnal tidal waves involved,do not significantly improve the accuracy of fitted FCN parameters from gravity observations. The study evaluated a series of OTMs using the loading correction efficiency. The fitting of FCN parameters can be improved by selecting the mean of appropriate OTMs based on the evaluation results.Through the estimation of the FCN parameters based on the forced nutation,it was found that the weight function P_(1) is more suitable than others, and different CPO series(after 2009) resulted in a difference of 0.4 SDs in the T and of 103 in the Q.We estimated the FCN parameters for SG(T=430.4±1.5 SDs and Q=1.52×10^(4)±2.5×10^(3)) and for VLBI(T=429.8±0.7 SDs,Q=1.88×10^(4)±2.1×10^(3)).

文摘The accuracy of the Earth's gravitational field measured from the gravity field and steady-state ocean circulation explorer(GOCE),up to 250 degrees, influenced by the radial gravity gradient V zz and three-dimensional gravity gradient V ij from the satellite gravity gradiometry(SGG) are contrastively demonstrated based on the analytical error model and numerical simulation, respectively.Firstly, the new analytical error model of the cumulative geoid height, influenced by the radial gravity gradient V zz and three-dimensional gravity gradient V ij are established, respectively. In 250 degrees, the GOCE cumulative geoid height error measured by the radial gravity gradient V zz is about 2 1/2 times higher than that measured by the three-dimensional gravity gradient V ij.Secondly, the Earth's gravitational field from GOCE completely up to 250 degrees is recovered using the radial gravity gradient V zz and three-dimensional gravity gradient V ij by numerical simulation, respectively. The study results show that when the measurement error of the gravity gradient is 3×10 12 /s 2,the cumulative geoid height errors using the radial gravity gradient V zz and three-dimensional gravity gradient V ij are 12.319 cm and 9.295 cm at 250 degrees, respectively. The accuracy of the cumulative geoid height using the three-dimensional gravity gradient V ij is improved by 30%-40% on average compared with that using the radial gravity gradient V zz in 250 degrees. Finally,by mutual verification of the analytical error model and numerical simulation, the orders of magnitude from the accuracies of the Earth's gravitational field recovery make no substantial differences based on the radial and three-dimensional gravity gradients, respectively. Therefore,it is feasible to develop in advance a radial cold-atom interferometric gradiometer with a measurement accuracy of 10 13 /s 2-10 15 /s 2 for precisely producing the next-generation GOCE Follow-On Earth gravity field model with a high spatial resolution.

文摘Firstly, a new analytical error model of the cumulative geoid height using the three-dimensional diagonal tensors of satellite gravity gradiometry (SGG) is introduced based on the variance-covariance matrix principle. Finally, the complementarity of the four-stage satellite gravity missions, including past CHAMP, current GRACE, and GOCE, and next-generation GOCE Follow-On, is contrastively demonstrated for precisely recovering the Earth's full-frequency gravitational field with high spatial resolution.

文摘Global navigation satellite system(GNSS)technique has irreplaceable advantages in the continuous monitoring of surface deformation.Reducing noise to improve the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)and extract the concerned signals is of great significance. As an improved algorithm of empirical mode decomposition(EMD),complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise(CEEMDAN)algorithm has better signal processing ability.Using the CEEMDAN algorithm, the height time series of 29GNSS stations in Chinese mainland were analyzed, and good denoising effects and extraction from periodic signals were achieved. The numerical results showed that the annual signal obtained with the CEEMDAN algorithm was significantly based on Lomb_Scargle spectrum analysis, and large differences in the long-term signals were found between the stations at different locations in Chinese mainland. With respect to data denoising, compared with the EMD and wavelet denoising algorithms, the CEEMDAN algorithm respectively improved the SNR by 29.35% and 36.54%,increased the correlation coefficient by 8.67% and 11.96%,and reduced root mean square error(RMSE)by 44.68% and 43.48%,indicating that the CEEMDAN algorithm had better denoising behavior than the other two algorithms. In addition, the results demonstrated that different denoising methods had little influence on estimating the annual vertical deformation velocity. The extraction of periodic signals showed that more components were retained by using the CEEMDAN algorithm than the EMD algorithm, which indicated that the CEEMDAN algorithm had advantages over frequency aliasing. In conclusion, the CEEMDAN algorithm was recommended for processing the GNSS height time series to analyze the vertical deformation due to its excellent features of denoising and the extraction of periodic signals.

文摘Using 4 global reanalysis data sets, significant upward trends of precipitable water vapor(PWV) were found in the 3 time periods of 1958-2020, 1979-2020, and 2000-2020. The study can provide a reference for assessing the evolution of flood disasters and predicting their frequency trends.

文摘Short-term(up to 30 days)predictions of Earth Rotation Parameters(ERPs)such as Polar Motion(PM:PMX and PMY)play an essential role in real-time applications related to high-precision reference frame conversion.Currently, least squares(LS)+auto-regressive(AR)hybrid method is one of the main techniques of PM prediction.Besides, the weighted LS+AR hybrid method performs well for PM short-term prediction. However, the corresponding covariance information of LS fitting residuals deserves further exploration in the AR model. In this study,we have derived a modified stochastic model for the LS+AR hybrid method, namely the weighted LS+weighted AR hybrid method.By using the PM data products of IERS EOP 14 C04,the numerical results indicate that for PM short-term forecasting, the proposed weighted LS+weighted AR hybrid method shows an advantage over both the LS+AR hybrid method and the weighted LS+AR hybrid method.Compared to the mean absolute errors(MAEs)of PMX/PMY sho rt-term prediction of the LS+AR hybrid method and the weighted LS+AR hybrid method, the weighted LS+weighted AR hybrid method shows average improvements of 6.61%/12.08%and 0.24%/11.65%,respectively.Besides,for the slopes of the linear regression lines fitted to the errors of each method, the growth of the prediction error of the proposed method is slower than that of the other two methods.

文摘A three-dimensional density model of the crust and uppermost mantle is determined by the inversion of a set of GOCE gravity and gradients residual anomalies beneath the eastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau and its surrounding areas. In our work,we choose five independent gravity gradients(Txx,Tzz,Txy,Txz,Tyz) to perform density inversion. Objective function is given based on Tikhonov regularization theory.Seismic S-wave velocities play the role of initial constraint for the inversion based on a relationship between density and S-wave velocity.Damped Least Square method is used during the inversion. The final density results offer some insights into understanding the underlying geodynamic processes:(1)Low densities in the margin of the Tibet, along with low wave velocity and resistivity results, yield conversions from soft and weak Tibet to the hard and rigid cratons.(2)The lowest densities are found in the boundary of the plateau, instead of the whole Tibet indicates that the effects of extrusion stress environment in the margin affect the changes of the substance there. The substances and environments conditioning for the earthquake preparations and strong deformation in this transitional zone.(3)Evident low-D anomaly in the upper and middle crust in the Lasha terrane and Songpan-Ganzi terrane illustrated the eastward sub-ducted of southeastern Tibet, which could be accounts for the frequent volcano and earthquakes there.

文摘Monitoring glacier mass balance is crucial to managing water resources and also to understanding climate change for the arid and semi-arid regions of Central Asia. For the 6.1-year oscillation, the results from lagged cross-correlation function suggested that there were significant correlations between glacier mass balances and precipitation variations with the precipitation variations leading the response of glacier mass balances by 9–16 months.

文摘The scattering-model-based(SMB)speckle filtering for polarimetric SAR(Pol SAR)data is reasonably effective in preserving dominant scattering mechanisms. However, the efficiency strongly depends on the accuracies of both the decomposition and classification of the scattering properties. In addition,a relatively weak speckle reduction particularly in distributed media was reported in the related literatures. In this work,an improved SMB filtering strategy is proposed considering the aforementioned deficiencies.First, the orientation angle compensation is incorporated into the SMB filtering process to remedy the overestimation of the volume scattering contribution in the Freeman-Durden decomposition. In addition,an algorithm to select the homogenous pixels is developed based on the spatial majority rule for adaptive speckle reduction. We demonstrate the superiority of the proposed methods in terms of scattering property preservation and speckle noise reduction using L-band Pol SAR data sets of San Francisco that were acquired by the NASA/JPL airborne SAR(AIRSAR)system.

文摘The greatest earthquake in the modern history of Japan and probably the fourth greatest in the last 100 years in the world occurred on March 11, 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku.Large tsunami and ground motions caused severe damage in wide areas, particularly many towns along the Pacific coast. This result supports the result that Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment(GRACE) satellites detected a crustal dilatation due to the 2004 Sumatra earthquake by the terrestrial observation with a higher spatial and temporal resolution.

文摘Vertical records are critically important when determining the rupture model of an earthquake, especially a thrust earthquake. Based on the distribution of the co-seismic ruptures of the Lushan and Wenchuan earthquakes, post-seismic relaxation of the Wenchuan earthquake, and tectonic loading process, we proposed that the seismic hazard is quite high and still needs special attention in the seismic gap between the two earthquakes.
文摘A new gravity base network in the south of the Tibetan Plateau was established with a FG5X absolute gravimeter and three CG-6 gravimeters. The gravity base network consists of 10 absolute gravity points and 17 relative gravity points.Processing of the absolute data,pre-processing of the relative data and gravity network adjustment model are briefly described.Based a constrained weighted least squares, the combined adjustment of absolute and relative gravity measurements results in the gravity values with a precision of about±4.1μGal.

文摘We use the average crustal structure of the CRUST1.0 model for the Tibetan Plateau to establish a realistic earth model termed as TC1 P, and data from the Global Land Data Assimilation System(GLDAS) hydrology model and Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment(GRACE) data, to generate the hydrology signals assumed in this study. PREM is also valid for use with inversions of hydrology signals from GRACE data at resolutions of approximately 220 km and larger.

文摘A 3-D P-wave velocity model is developed for the crust and uppermost mantle of Caucasus and the surrounding area by applying the tomographic method of Zhao et al. using 300 000 high-quality P-wave first arrivals from 43 000 events between 1964 and 2005. Tomographic model significantly reduces the travel-time residuals.

文摘We apply the adaptive moving window method of Sun et al. to the most recent catalog data and the data recorded by portable stations to construct the velocity structure of the crust and upper mantle, and to determine the depth of the Moho interface beneath the Tibetan plateau and other areas of China. Compared to depths obtained by previous studies, our results show more accurate Moho depths in the Tibetan plateau, Tianshan region and other areas of the study region.

文摘This article made a systematic statistical analysis on the duration, spatial distribution, form, range, type and reliability of precursory anomalies based on the observations of precursors of 24 moderate-strong earthquakes occurring along the Tancheng-Lujiang fault zone and its bilateral areas in Shandong,Liaoning,Hebei,Jiangsu and Jiangxi Provinces in the period from 1966 to 2005. Results show that:( 1) For M7. 0 and M6. 0earthquakes,med-term abnormities are the greatest in number,short-term abnormities come second, and imminent anomalies are the least. For M5. 0 earthquakes,short-term abnormities are often the most in number, imminent anomalies come second, and the med-term ones are the least.( 2) Precursory anomalies are periodical, part of the med and short-term anomalies are shown as short-term and imminent anomalies during their development.( 3) The development of precursor shows quasi-synchronism; the closer to earthquake occurrence time, the more turning changes of anomalies will appear.( 4)Anomalies mainly occur within an epicenter distance of 100 km, showing a relative concentrated distribution in space, and the shorter the distance to epicenter, the higher the anomaly station / item rate.( 5) The spatial distribution of anomalies is relatively correlated to the strike of structures, having a good consistency with the structure.( 6)There is no significant correlation between duration of abnormities and the epicenter distance.( 7) The higher the magnitude of the earthquake, the greater the amplitude of the abnormities measured with the same observation approach.( 8) In terms of the itemsof the observations, fluid abnormities are the greatest in number, followed by deformation and electromagnetism observations.( 9) For all observation items, med and short-term abnormities make up the majority and short-term and imminent anomalies the minority.( 10) In fluid, deformation and electromagnetism observations, fairly reliable anomalies are about double the number of reliable anomalies.

文摘Earthquake prediction remains a challenging and difficult task for scientists all over the world. The tidal triggering of earthquakes is being proven by an increasing number of investigations, most of which have shown that earthquakes are positively correlated with tides, and thus, tides provide a potential tool for earthquake prediction, especially for imminent earthquakes. In this study, publications concerning the tidal triggering of earthquakes were compiled and analyzed with regard to global earthquakes, which were classified into three main types:tectonic, volcanic, and slow earthquakes. The results reveal a high correlation between tectonic earthquakes and tides(mainly for semidiurnal and diurnal tides;14-day tides) before and after the occurrence of significant earthquakes. For volcanic earthquakes, observations of volcanoes on the seafloor and land indicate that volcanic earthquakes in near-shore volcanic areas and mid-ocean ridges have a strong correlation with tidal forces, mostly those with semidiurnal and diurnal periods. For slow earthquakes, the periodicity of the tremor duration is highly correlated with semidiurnal and diurnal tides. In conclusion, the tidal triggering of these three types of earthquakes makes a positive contribution to earthquake preparation and understanding the triggering mechanism, and thus, the prediction of these types of earthquakes should be investigated. However, there are still several inadequacies on this topic that need to be resolved to gain a definitiveanswer regarding the tidal triggering of all earthquakes. The main inadequacies are discussed in this paper from our point of view.

文摘The Ningdu basin, located in southern Jiangxi province of southwest China,is one of the Mesozoic basin groups which has exploration prospects for geothermal energy.A study on the detailed velocity structure of the Ningdu basin can provide important information for geothermal resource exploration. In this study,we deployed a dense seismic array in the Ningdu basin to investigate the 3D velocity structure and discuss implications for geothermal exploration and geological evolution.Based on the dense seismic array including 35 short-period(5 s-100 Hz)seismometers with an average interstation distance of~5 km,Rayleigh surface wave dispersion curves were extracted from the continuous ambient noise data for surface wave tomographic inversion.Group velocity tomography was conducted and the 3D S-wave velocity structure was inverted by the neighborhood algorithm. The results revealed obvious low-velocity anomalies in the center of the basin, consistent with the low-velocity Cretaceous sedimentary rocks. The basement and basin-controlling fault can also be depicted by the S-wave velocity anomalies. The obvious seismic interface is about 2 km depth in the basin center and decreases to 700 m depth near the basin boundary, suggesting spatial thickness variations of the Cretaceous sediment. The fault features of the S-wave velocity profile coincide with the geological cognition of the western boundary basincontrolling fault, which may provide possible upwelling channels for geothermal fluid. This study suggests that seismic tomography with a dense array is an effective method and can play an important role in the detailed investigations of sedimentary basins.
