This study was conducted to investigate the effect of livestock grazing and human uses on herbaceous species diversity. We surveyed 50 ha of protected area and 50 ha of unprotected area to evaluate herbaceous species diversity in oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) forests in northern Iran. We calculated and compared three indices each of diversity and evenness, and species richness between the two areas. Herbaceous cover was higher in the unprotected area while leaf litter depth and tree canopy cover were higher in the protected area. The diversity indices, H (Shan- non-Wiener index ), N~ (McArthur index), N2 (Hill's index), EQ (Modified Nee index), E,ar (Smith-Wilson index), E5 (modified index of Hill) and R=S (species richness) and species richness R=S were greater in the protected area than in the unprotected area, suggesting that protection from grazing results in increased numbers of plants and species. The effect of land protection on plant diversity was more pronounced for evenness than for species richness and the positive correlation between diversity and evenness indices was higher than that between diversity and richness.展开更多

The spatial distribution of mulberry thrips within plant and orchard was assessed using Taylor's power law and Morisita's index of dispersion. The results showed that P.mori populations were localized in certain parts of the trees and fields. Distribution of thrips within plant showed that the larval instars were located on lower canopy (leaves 5-10 from top) of trees but adults preferred the upper canopy (leaves 1-5 from top). The thrips density did not vary significantly among the leaf direction inside the trees. The thrips tended to be more accumulated on the trees located in East, South and North than in Center and West of orchard. The distributions of P.mori adults and larvae on the leaves were aggregated.展开更多

To accomplish this aim, the micropolar theory is combined with the nonlocal elasticity. To consider the nonlocality, both integral (original) and differential formulations of Eringen’s nonlocal theory are considered. The beams are considered to be Timoshenko-type, and the governing equations are derived in the variational form through Hamilton’s principle. The relations are written in an appropriate matrix-vector representation that can be readily utilized in numerical approaches. A finite element (FE) approach is also proposed for the solution procedure. Parametric studies are conducted to show the simultaneous nonlocal and micropolar effects on the bending response of small-scale beams under different boundary conditions.展开更多

Using the generalized differential quadrature(GDQ)method and periodic differential operators in radial and circumferential directions, respectively, the governing equation is discretized. DLGSs with clamped and simply-supported boundary conditions are studied and the influence of van der Waals(vd W) interaction forces is taken into account. In the numerical results, the effects of various parameters such as elastic medium coefficients, radius-to-thickness ratio, thermal loading and nonlocal parameter are examined on both in-phase and anti-phase natural frequencies. The results show that the thermal load and elastic foundation respectively decreases and increases the fundamental frequencies of DLGSs.展开更多

The effect of land protection on plant diversity was more pronounced for evenness than for species richness and the positive correlation between diversity and evenness indices was higher than that between diversity and richness.

文摘As an abiotic stress, adverse germination temperatures cause serious disruptions in physiological and biochemical processes involved in seed germination.Using a factorial experiment,we examined the effects of different seed priming treatments on enzymatic and biochemical performances of rice seed germination under different temperatures. Each of the rice genotypes(Hashemi,Sadry-domsefid,IRON-70-7053-7 and NORIN-22)was primed with hydro-hardening,KCl,CaCl2 and ascorbic acid(AsA)and without a priming agent as a control at low(15℃),optimum(25℃)and high(35℃)germination temperatures. The results showed that the enzymatic and biochemical performances of all the rice genotypes were affected by the seed priming agents, especially under the low germination temperature. At 15℃,seed priming with AsA was found to be the best agent for the activities of amylase,α-amylase,catalase(CAT),peroxidase(POX),ascorbate peroxidase(APOX)and superoxide dismutase(SOD)as well as the content of soluble sugars in the NORIN-22 genotype, and for protease activity and soluble protein content in the IRON-70-7053-7 genotype.SOD at the low germination temperature and CAT,POX and protease at the optimum and high germination temperatures were the most important enzymes in occurrence of germination potential in terms of seedling length, vigor index, normal seedling rate and germination rate.Under the priming agents, the highest changes in normal seedling rate were observed at the low and optimum germination temperatures by AsA priming in the Hashemi and NORIN-22 genotypes, and at the high germination temperature under KCl priming in the Hashemi genotype.

文摘The influences of trait diversity(i.e.,the niche complementarity effect)and functional composition(i.e.,the mass ratio effect)on aboveground biomass(AGB)is a highly debated topic in forest ecology. Therefore, further studies are needed to explore these mechanisms in unstudied forest ecosystems to enhance our understanding, and to provide guidelines for specific forest management. Here,we hypothesized that functional composition would drive AGB better than trait diversity and stem size inequality in the(sub-)tropical forests of Nepal.Using data from 101 forest plots,we tested 25 structural equation models(SEMs)to link elevation, stem DBH inequality, trait diversity(i.e.,trait richness, evenness, dispersion and divergence),functional composition[i.e.,community-weighted of maximum height mean(CWM of Hmax),specific leaf area(CWM of SLA),leaf dry matter content(CWM of LDMC),and wood density(CWM of WD)]and AGB.The best-fitted SEMs indicated that CWM of Hmax promoted AGB while overruling the impacts of trait diversity indices on AGB.However, low trait diversity indices were linked with higher AGB while overruling the effects of CWM of SLA,LDMC and WD on AGB.In addition,AGB decreased with increasing elevation, whereas stem size inequality did not influence AGB.Our results suggest that divergent species’functional strategies could shape AGB along an altitudinal gradient in tropical forests. We argue that forest management practices should include plant functional traits in the management plan for the co-benefits of biodiversity conservation and carbon sequestration that underpins human wellbeing.

Parametric studies are conducted to show the simultaneous nonlocal and micropolar effects on the bending response of small-scale beams under different boundary conditions.
文摘Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory is extensively employed for the analysis of nanostructures because it is able to capture nanoscale effects.Previous studies have revealed that using the differential form of the strain-driven version of this theory leads to paradoxical results in some cases, such as bending analysis of cantilevers, and recourse must be made to the integral version. In this article,a novel numerical approach is developed for the bending analysis of Euler-Bernoulli nanobeams in the context of strain-and stress-driven integral nonlocal models. This numerical approach is proposed for the direct solution to bypass the difficulties related to converting the integral governing equation into a differential equation.First, the governing equation is derived based on both strain-driven and stress-driven nonlocal models by means of the minimum total potential energy. Also,in each case, the governing equation is obtained in both strong and weak forms. To solve numerically the derived equations, matrix differential and integral operators are constructed based upon the finite difference technique and trapezoidal integration rule.It is shown that the proposed numerical approach can be efficiently applied to the strain-driven nonlocal model with the aim of resolving the mentioned paradoxes. Also,it is able to solve the problem based on the strain-driven model without inconsistencies of the application of this model that are reported in the literature.

文摘Al-based MIL-53 MOF nanostructure was synthesized hydrothermally and then co-deposited in the electroless nickel coating on AM60B magnesium alloy using Zr pretreatment as an eco-friendly underlayer. The MIL-53(Al)nanostructure was synthesized in the form of layered semi-cube crystals with the surface area and mean pore diameter of 985.72 m^(2)g^(-1) and 2.00 nm,respectively. The SEM images captured with two various zooming scales from the surface of the plain and MOF containing electroless layers showed cauliflower-like morphology with even distribution of nodule size. Also, the sub-grains of the plain coating disappeared after incorporation of the MOF.Although, both the normal and nanostructure-containing electroless layers have crystalline-amorphous structure, but the nanocomposite coating showed less crystallinity. The average surface roughness of the plain electroless coating was about 309 nm,which decreased to about 222 nm after incorporation of the MOF.The XRD patterns showed that the characteristic peak of Ni broadened after incorporation of the MOF,probably due to the decreasing of the crystallinity. For the heat-treated normal and MOF containing coatings at 200℃ no phase transition takes place, but new peaks appeared for heat-treated coatings at 400℃ due to the crystallization and second-phase precipitation. The results of the EIS tests showed an increase in the amount of the charge transfer resistance(from 19 to 29 kΩcm^(2))after addition of the MOF,which means an improvement in the corrosion resistance. Also, low Jcorrof the composite coating represents its higher corrosion resistance with respect to the plain coating. The micro-hardness values of the composite coating before and after the heat treatment were higher than the plain coating. Also, the Ni-P-MOF coating has a lower wear rate both before and after the heat treatment due to an improvement in its micro-hardness.
文摘This paper critically reviewed the current knowledge and challenges of rice husk biochar(RHB)production and its effects on soil properties, plant growth, immobilization of heavy metals, reduction of nutrient leaching and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions. The characteristics of RHBs produced at various pyrolysis temperatures were discussed and compared to biochars derived from other agro-industrial wastes.RHBs produced at higher pyrolysis temperatures show lower hydrogen/carbon ratio, which suggests the presence of higher aromatic carbon compounds. The increase of pyrolysis temperature also results in production of RHBs with higher ash content, lower yield and higher surface area.RHB usually has higher silicon and ash contents and lower carbon content compared to biochars derived from other feedstocks at the same pyrolysis conditions.Although it depends on soil type,RHB application can improve soil organic carbon content, cation exchange capacity, available K concentration, bulk density and microbial activity. The effect of RHB on soil aggregation mainly depends on soil texture. The growth of different crops is also enhanced by application of RHB.RHB addition to soil can immobilize heavy metals and herbicides and reduce their bioavailability.RHB application shows a significant capacity in reduction of nitrate leaching, although its magnitude depends on the biochar application rate and soil biogeochemical characteristics.Use of RHB,especially in paddy fields, shows a promising mitigation effect on greenhouse gas(CH4,CO2 and N2O)emissions.Although RHB characteristics are also related to other factors such as pyrolysis heating rate and residence time, its performance for specific applications(e.g.carbon sequestration,pH amendment)can be manipulated by adjusting the pyrolysis temperature.More research is needed on long-term field applications of RHB to fully understand the advantages and disadvantages of RHB as a soil amendment.
文摘Based on the nonlocal elasticity theory, the vibration behavior of circular double-layered graphene sheets(DLGSs) resting on the Winkler- and Pasternak-type elastic foundations in a thermal environment is investigated. The governing equation is derived on the basis of Eringen's nonlocal elasticity and the classical plate theory(CLPT).The initial thermal loading is assumed to be due to a uniform temperature rise throughout the thickness direction. The results show that the thermal load and elastic foundation respectively decreases and increases the fundamental frequencies of DLGSs.
文摘An analytical approach is proposed to study the postbuckling of circular cylindrical shells subject to axial compression and lateral pressure made of functionally graded graphene platelet-reinforced polymer composite (FG-GPL-RPC). The governing equations are obtained in the context of the classical Donnell shell theory by the von K′arm′an nonlinear relations. Then, based on the Ritz energy method, an analytical solution approach is used to trace the nonlinear postbuckling path of the shell. The effects of several parameters such as the weight fraction of the graphene platelet (GPL), the geometrical properties, and distribution patterns of the GPL on the postbuckling characteristics of the FG-GPL-RPC shell are analyzed.
