Based on the frequency-domain multimode theoretical model,detailed investigations on the noise characteristic of the semiconductor ring laser(SRL)are first performed in this paper.The comprehensive nonlinear terms related to the third order nonlinear susceptibilityχ3are included in this model;the Langevin noise sources for electric field and carrier density fluctuations are also taken into account.As the injection current increases,the SRL may present several operation regimes.Remarkable and unusual low frequency noise enhancement in the form of a broad low frequency tail extending all the way to the relaxation oscillation peak is observed in any of the operation regimes of SRLs.The influences of the backscattering coefficient on the relative intensity noise(RIN)spectrum in typical operation regimes are investigated in detail. 展开更多

In this paper,a new distributed consensus tracking protocol incorporating local disturbance rejection is devised for a multi-agent system with heterogeneous dynamic uncertainties and disturbances over a directed graph.It is of two-degree-of-freedom nature.Specifically,a robust distributed controller is designed for consensus tracking,while a local disturbance estimator is designed for each agent without requiring the input channel information of disturbances.The condition for asymptotic disturbance rejection is derived.Moreover,even when the disturbance model is not exactly known,the developed method also provides good disturbance-rejection performance.Then,a robust stabilization condition with less conservativeness is derived for the whole multi-agent system.Further,a design algorithm is given.Finally,comparisons with the conventional one-degree-of-freedombased distributed disturbance-rejection method for mismatched disturbances and the distributed extended-state observer for matched disturbances validate the developed method. 展开更多

This paper proposes an empirical wavelet transform(EWT)based method for identification and analysis of sub-synchronous oscillation(SSO)modes in the power system using phasor measurement unit(PMU)data.The phasors from PMUs are preprocessed to check for the presence of oscillations.If the presence is established,the signal is decomposed using EWT and the parameters of the mono-components are estimated through Yoshida algorithm.The superiority of the proposed method is tested using test signals with known parameters and simulated using actual SSO signals from the Hami Power Grid in Northwest China.Results show the effectiveness of the proposed EWT-Yoshida method in detecting the SSO and estimating its parameters. 展开更多

DCMG exchanges predetermined active and reactive power with the upstream network. DCMG and NGs are coordinately controlled and managed in such a way the exchanged P-Q power with external grid are kept on scheduled level following all events and operating conditions. The proposed control system, in addition to the ability of mutual support between DCMG and NGs, makes NGs support each other in critical situations. On the other hand, in all operating conditions, DCMG not only feeds three-phase loads with time-varying active and reactive power on the grid side but also injects constant active power into the grid. During events, NGs support each other, NGs support DCMG, and DCMG supports NGs. Such control strategies are realized by the proposed control method to increase resilience of the system. For these purposes, all resources and loads in DCMG and NGs are equipped with individual controllers. Then, a central control unit analyzes, monitors, and regularizes performance of individual controllers in DCMG and NGs. Nonlinear simulations show the proposed model can effectively control DCMG and NGs under normal and critical conditions. 展开更多

Since precise self-position estimation is required for autonomous flight of aerial robots, there has been some studies on self-position estimation of indoor aerial robots. In this study, we tackle the self-position estimation problem by mounting a small downward-facing camera on the chassis of an aerial robot. We obtain robot position by sensing the features on the indoor floor.In this work, we used the vertex points(tile corners) where four tiles on a typical tiled floor connected, as an existing feature of the floor. Furthermore, a small lightweight microcontroller is mounted on the robot to perform image processing for the onboard camera. A lightweight image processing algorithm is developed. So, the real-time image processing could be performed by the microcontroller alone which leads to conduct on-board real time tile corner detection. Furthermore, same microcontroller performs control value calculation for flight commanding. The flight commands are implemented based on the detected tile corner information. The above mentioned all devices are mounted on an actual machine, and the effectiveness of the system was investigated. 展开更多

Timed weighted marked graphs are a subclass of timed Petri nets that have wide applications in the control and performance analysis of flexible manufacturing systems.Due to the existence of multiplicities(i.e.,weights)on edges,the performance analysis and resource optimization of such graphs represent a challenging problem.In this paper,we develop an approach to transform a timed weighted marked graph whose initial marking is not given,into an equivalent parametric timed marked graph where the edges have unitary weights.In order to explore an optimal resource allocation policy for a system,an analytical method is developed for the resource optimization of timed weighted marked graphs by studying an equivalent net.Finally,we apply the proposed method to a flexible manufacturing system and compare the results with a previous heuristic approach.Simulation analysis shows that the developed approach is superior to the heuristic approach. 展开更多

The most popular and representative classic waveform codes are referred to as orthogonal,bi-orthogonal,simplex,and etc,but the choice of waveform codes is essentially identical in error performance and cross correlation characteristic.Though bi-orthogonal coding requires half the bandwidth of the others,such coding scheme is attractive only when large bandwidth is available.In this paper,a novel finite projective plane(FPP) based waveform coding scheme is proposed,which is with similar error performance and cross correlation.Nevertheless,the bandwidth requirement will grow in a quadratic way,but not in an exponential way with the values of message bit numbers(k).The proposed scheme takes obvious advantages over the bi-orthogonal scheme when k ≥ 6. 展开更多

In this paper,extensive efforts have been undertaken to design and develop a control system,which is incorporated with an energy storage device that can store energy from low-voltage renewable sources.The developed device acts as a storage element,which can be used to charge small-scale batteries,cellular devices,and other applications in remote places where the grid connection is not available.The circuit is developed using a case-by-case analysis.In order to solve the low output voltage problem,a bipolar junction transistor-metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor(BJT-MOSFET)based switch control technology with the Arduino microcontroller has been implemented.The developed control system is extremely efficient in charging batteries through a supercapacitor for low-voltage sources.In this research,a small-scale 200-W portable vertical axis wind turbine is used at a wind speed of 3 m/s.The result shows the efficiency of the proposed system as compared with the conventional systems.The proposed system can be an important tool of the latest distributed energy generation technology which is an important part of a smart city.Lastly,the limitations and future scopes of the development of the control device are discussed for the future barrier.An important future scope identified is to integrate the Internet of Things based mobile interface for remote monitoring for any kind of pandemic situation like COVID-19.Now,it is high time to get our smart city concept aligned with the post COVID pandemic situation and get us prepared smartly for similar future occurrences. 展开更多

In this article,two new algorithms are presented that convert a given data tensor train into either a Tucker decomposition with orthogonal matrix factors or a multi-scale entanglement renormalization ansatz(MERA).The Tucker core tensor is never explicitly computed but stored as a tensor train instead,resulting in both computationally and storage efficient algorithms.Both the multilinear Tucker-ranks as well as the MERA-ranks are automatically determined by the algorithm for a given upper bound on the relative approximation error.In addition,an iterative algorithm with low computational complexity based on solving an orthogonal Procrustes problem is proposed for the first time to retrieve optimal rank-lowering disentangler tensors,which are a crucial component in the construction of a low-rank MERA.Numerical experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms together with the potential storage benefit of a low-rank MERA over a tensor train. 展开更多

As a dynamic energy storage system,electric vehicles(EV)play important roles in future power grids.In this paper,a model for EV aggregator participation in the electricity market has been built with a focus on the feasibility issue of the model arising from economic interest inconsistencies between different stakeholders:EV owners and aggregator.In the model,the EV aggregator attends day-ahead energy and reserve markets for profit maximization by scheduling charging and discharging behaviors of EVs.This issue exists since different stakeholders have different interests which are not necessarily consistent,e.g.profit maximization leads to increasing EV owners'charging fee.To investigate the economic relationship between the two stakeholders,two multi-objective optimization methods(weighted sum and$\varepsilon$-constraint methods)are proposed to take the aggregator profit and EV owners'charging fee into account in the model.A sensitivity analysis is applied to examine the aggregator profit under different price scenarios,which reveals the internal relationship between EV owners'charging fees and aggregator profit.The proposed EV charging and discharging strategy in this paper could be used to determine the settlement price between the aggregator and owners to ensure the feasibility of participation from both EV owners and stakeholders in electricity markets. 展开更多

In this paper,the hybridization of standard particle swarm optimisation(PSO)with the analytical method(2/3 rd rule)is proposed,which is called as analytical hybrid PSO(AHPSO)algorithm used for the optimal siting and sizing of distribution generation.The proposed AHPSO algorithm is implemented to cater for uniformly distributed,increasingly distributed,centrally distributed,and randomly distributed loads in conventional power systems.To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm,the convergence speed and optimization performances of standard PSO and the proposed AHPSO algorithms are compared for two cases.In the first case,the performances of both the algorithms are compared for four different load distributions via an IEEE 10-bus system.In the second case,the performances of both the algorithms are compared for IEEE 10-bus,IEEE 33-bus,IEEE 69-bus systems,and a real distribution system of Korea.Simulation results show that the proposed AHPSO algorithm converges significantly faster than the standard PSO.The results of the proposed algorithm are compared with those of an analytical algorithm,and the results of them are similar. 展开更多

This paper investigates the impact of electric vehicle(EV)aggregator with communication time delay on stability regions and stability delay margins of a single-area load frequency control(LFC)system.Primarily,a graphical method characterizing stability boundary locus is implemented.For a given time delay,the method computes all the stabilizing proportional-integral(PI)controller gains,which constitutes a stability region in the parameter space of PI controller.Secondly,in order to complement the stability regions,a frequency-domain exact method is used to calculate stability delay margins for various values of PI controller gains.The qualitative impact of EV aggregator on both stability regions and stability delay margins is thoroughly analyzed and the results are authenticated by time-domain simulations and quasi-polynomial mapping-based root finder(QPmR)algorithm. 展开更多

Load flow analysis is a significant tool for proper planning,operation,and dynamic analysis of a power system that provides the steady-state values of voltage magnitudes and angles at the fundamental frequency.However,due to the absence of a slack bus in an islanded microgrid,modified load flow algorithms should be adopted considering the system frequency as one of the solution variables.This paper proposes the application of nature-inspired hybrid optimization algorithms for solving the load flow problem of islanded microgrids.Several nature-inspired algorithms such as genetic algorithm(GA),differential evolution(DE),flower pollination algorithm(FPA),and grasshopper optimization algorithm(GOA)are separately merged with imperialistic competitive algorithm(ICA)to form four hybrid algorithms named as ICGA,ICDE,ICFPA,and ICGOA.Performances of these algorithms are tested on the 6-bus test system and the modified IEEE 37-bus test system.A comparison among the proposed algorithms is carried out in terms of statistical analysis conducted using SPSS statistics software.From the statistical analysis,it is identified that on an average,ICDE takes less number of iterations and consequently needs less execution time compared with other algorithms in solving the load flow problem of islanded microgrids. 展开更多

At present, sudden load changes and terminal voltage fluctuations are two primary problems in the uninterrupted phase-separation passing (UPP) system. To further enhance the reliability of the UPP system and compensate for the voltage sag at the end of the traction power supply network caused by the suddenly connection of locomotive to the power grid, a multi-function uninterrupted phase-separation passing system (MUPPS) and its control strategy are proposed. It has the advantages of linear load change and improving power supply reliability. First, the topology and working principles of a MUPPS are studied;secondly, the current variation characteristics of the bridge arm when the power is continuously supplied by MUPPS during the phase-separation passing are analyzed. Then, the characteristics of a MUPPS to provide reactive power and stabilize the terminal voltage of the traction arm are analyzed. Then, the power transmission characteristics of a MUPPS under emergency working conditions are analyzed. The control strategy for the two conditions is proposed. Finally, simulation analysis and small capacity experiments are conducted. The theoretical analysis and test confirm the correctness and effectiveness of the MUPPS. 展开更多

Active distribution network(ADN),as a typically cyber-physical system,develops with the evolution of Internet of Things(IoTs),which makes the network vulnerable to cybersecurity threats.In this paper,the eavesdropping attacks that lead to privacy breaches are addressed for the IoT-enabled ADN.A privacy-preserving energy management system(EMS)is proposed and empowered by secure data exchange protocols based on the homomorphic cryptosystem.During the information transmission among distributed generators and load customers in the EMS,private information including power usage and electricity bidding price can be effectively protected against eavesdropping attacks.The correctness of the final solutions,e.g.,optimal market clearing price and unified power utilization ratio,can be deterministically guaranteed.The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and the computational efficiency of the proposed homomorphically encrypted EMS. 展开更多
